- All I can say is if Kristen's accent was good enough for highly sought out dialect coach extraordinaire William Conacher, it's good enough for me. But don't take my word for it. Here are some clips of Kristen portraying Diana in her soon to be Oscar nominated performance in Spencer juxtaposed with soundbites of the real Princess Diana, to help the viewer decide.
If you can't tell the difference between Diana and Kristen, you're super high on something potent.

Kirsten’s accent is fine, but she whispered too much. Like a weak whispery voice. I remembered Diana to be soft-spoken but not whispery. The difference or inaccuracy struck me right away when I watched the movie. This video confirms it to me.
Its for more dramatic effect for the theme of the film. She feels like she’s always being watched and listened to in the movie hence she talks more in whispers.
I agree it does feel somewhat theatrical. tbh it's bothered me so much I wasn't able to watch the movie... Kudos to Kirsten though, she's a great actress, but accents isn't just something you can learn easily, it takes an excellent ear and living in a (British, in this case) native environment for years. I simply wouldn't have chosen an American actress for this. Or I'd rather KS spoke with her normal accent.

She didn't nail the accent. It's too breathy but overall it's a very good accent and much better than I thought she'd do. Her performance was wonderful. It really felt like watching Diana go through hell.

Kristen's accent was too forced and breathy. The Crown's actress nailed it and everything else about Diana.

Sorry, but to me Kirsten's accent sounded forced, too abrupt and fast paced whereas Princess Diana was soft spoken and had a lower rate of speech.

I heard Kristen Stewart "British accent" before in "Snow White and the Huntsman". In that movie she sounded more convincing to me. In this movie however, she seemed to try too hard on sounding like Diana. I can hear that she tried to match her speech pattern and the voice colour with Diana's but the real Diana used to sound much more relaxed, and she didn't whisper as much as Kristen did in this movie.
If I was the director, I would have asked Kristen to learn and practice Diana's regional accent but at the same time I would tell her not to change the pitch of her voice. She should be allowed to use her real voice pitch, and to speak in a normal speech volume. After all, her job as an actress is NOT being the princess Diana but just playing a movie version of Diana.
It’s not perfect but it was very good in general as an English accent and close enough to Diana to work for the film
