I don't think so. There is so little "Bio-Nite" in the bag that Yard Mastery wasn't even legally obligated to list "bio-solids" as an ingredient. It's more marketing than ingredient.
You can actually buy that Expert Fert for $5 during fall or winter time at WM...so I stock up the year before. Also grass and soil doesn’t know what’s quality NPK but I do like the extra stuff the Flag Ship has. Can’t afford it for 35k soft lawn. Ty for the content 👍🏼

Nice lawn and video. I was going to say the lawn looks good but could stand some iron ... and then you rattled off the contents of the fert; you got it covered.
Scotts Miracle-Gro makes Expert Garden fertilizer. That’s why it’s so good. It’s all I ever use. And it’s 1/2 the price when you compare it to similar size bags.
Great video...was on the fence about flagship but you just convinced me!...I put down another product with scotts on March 10 and will put this down maybe Bout may 10
Interesting application rate, I myself use Scott’s Ultra Feed. The directions call for applications at every 24 weeks. I really want to push growth, but I’m worried about burning my lawn after 30 - 45 days.
@zeroturn looked this fert up it says last up to 6 weeks? Not sure where 24 weeks comes from. 6 weeks would put you at 45 days. The ultra feed doesn't give a N-P-K rating but as long as you don't apply to wet grass it shouldn't burn
I fertilized with flagship on my front lawn and scotts lawn food in the backyard and picture prove scott lawn food out performed ym brand. Scotts was on clearance for 13$ large bags
30-45 days is way too often for my yard. I fertilize 3 times a year and with steady water I’m mowing 2-3 times a week. If I fertilized every month I’d need to mow 5 times a week. On top of that I’m on a well and that much fertilizer would most definitely increase the nitrates in my water over time. Just found your channel and looking forward to more videos.
my soil test shows I need. 1.5 lb./1000 sq. ft. nitrogen 3 lb./1000 sq. ft. phosphate 1 lb./1000 sq ft potash is there one fertilizer that does all this or do I need different kinds. coop said just triple 10 but that doesn't seem right to me.
Hi Shane. How do you prevent the Bermuda from crossing into the backyard? I’m thinking of doing the same. The canopy on the back is too dense. My Bermuda is always thin back there. Thank you sir.
@@ShaneHeath Shane, do you recommend sodding with Zoysia or go from seed? I do have irrigation back there. I also have two reel movers and one rotary. I’m guessing Zoysia is best cut with a rotary, unless I’m wrong.
There is only one type of Zoysia seed, Zenith zoysia from supersod. If you can afford to sod that's always the best route. And Zoysia does really good if reel mowed around 3/4 inch to 1 inch.
Question for you I bought some lawn fertilizer followed all the instructions but I noticed it says apply to dry grass not wet do you water your grass after apply fertilizer??
Yes if throwing down granular fertilizer you always want to apply to dry grass, and then you can leave it and wait for rain or you can water it in with 1/2 inch of water to get the process going sooner.
I think what’s probably tough with the Walmart brand too, is it’s not an even number of lbs of product per 1000 like the YM product. Looks like it’s a 14lb bag, and so that’s 2.8lbs/1000. I like the YM products because of the nice round numbers Allyn tried to get to go along with the product. Also .84lbs N/1000 for the Walmart brand, versus .72lbs N/1000 for the Flagship, that’s pretty close to where I don’t think you’d see a difference in end color results. How much N can you put down in a year in North Carolina?
@@ShaneHeath do you treat the Zoysia different from the Bermuda? I have St.Augustine so I don’t know about those grass types, just curious more than anything.

I haven’t added anything since black cow early summer (Texas). Is it too late to put anything down this year??? If not, any recommendations?
I just was in Plano 3 days ago I would say the season has slowed down with cooler weather hitting. Your money would be better spent fertilizing in the spring I think
hold on....... The difference of 3 is the pounds...... 14x3= 42.....vs...... the 45lb bag...... No way the 45lb bags costs $48....... Fertilize 30-45 days ?....... First of all geographic location is important. I am guessing by the turf type of Zoysia and Bermuda...... This is south of the transition zone....... Can understand the close interval of application in spring... For reasons that in spring, turf feeds heavily. Full sun locations more so. More rain, where it will release and cause downward movement of the Nitrogen. More important, soil structure and profile.
@Sweetlady1916 I use preemergent to keep weeds out my entire yard, and when I installed my fence I left a 1 inch gap at the bottom so I could use the weedeater to mow it down

Actually if you buy a 42lb bag it's only $32 and covers 15k sq ft of the Walmart Brand. Of course if you purchase any brand in 5k sq ft quantities and compare to a 15k sq ft bag it's misleading. Comparing 15k sq ft of the Walmart Brand to 15 sq ft of the Flagship, the flagship is more then double the price per sq ft of coverage.
Hi Shane, New to your channel. Did you Plug or seed your Zoysia Lawn? As you very well know how slow Zoysia can be to spread out. I was wondering if you have any tips for encouraging it to spread out?
My zoysia is from seed, almost 2 years ago now. Biggest tip, proper watering, 3lbs of nitrogen per 1000 sq ft a year, and staying on top of mowing! Welcome to the channel and thanks for the question!
Wow I can get 15000sq ft of Walmart fertilizer for $29.00. that 60000sq ft 4 bags for one bag of flagship. 62.00 plus 15 shipping. And on top of it expert is made by Scotts.
I don't think using two different types of grass is a fair comparison I'm guessing. My best results were with Vigoro until I used Best Evergreen with Iron. I've always applied first weekend of every even month.
Fertilizer is fertilizer at the end of the day. The increased Fe in the Flagship probably does help to a certain extent but the Walmart stuff has way more N in the mix and since grass responds the most to N applications you’re getting more bang for your buck with the Walmart brand. You need to have an application goal in mind....like 20 lbs per acre Nitrogen. If that was your application goal you would need 66 lbs per acre of the Walmart brand stuff in your grass as compared to 83 lbs per acre of the flagship. Meaning the Walmart stuff more than likely is the better buy. You have to keep in mind that each bag is basing everything off their own recommendations so essentially you’re not getting an accurate assessment of the fertilizer comparison unless you’re able to reduce the number of variables involved.
@red mountain outdoors Yes fertilizer is fertilizer. But coffee is also coffee, and you can always tell cheap from quality. Flagship offers the micros for your soil that will push better color. All nitrogen in fert is not equal either, the cheapest is urea which you will actually lose a large percent of before making it into the root zone. Look up videos on the grass factor channel. He breaks it down to the chemistry level of fertilizers
