- In this video I plasti dip my p45r Rotas then proceed to add a professional grade clear coat!
I used;
5 cans of white plasti-dip
2 cans of professional grade 2k clear coat
The clear coat acts as a protectant layer/ bonds to the plasti-dip so it may be tough to remove! Keep that in mind before spraying your wheels. I plan to powder coat them in the future which is why I took this temporary route!
Damn dude those wheels came out awesome. They will make that car look insane....Great job!!!!
That sticker is a great idea. I’m going to use it on my truck.
I got a tip for you, if you put on tire shine you don’t have to think about overspray on the tire
it is a great way to show us that if you want your plastidip to be durable, apply clearcoat!!
i will do it right now. i am tired of plastidip peeling itself after 2 months
They look great and I’m thinking about doing plastidip on some factory Mercedes wheels to give them an updated look. I would have taken the wheel weights off first and had them balanced when I was done. Thanks for the tips on the clear coat and I’m hoping that mine look that good!
Those look super dope! I’m definitely gone use this process for my 2009 charger! Ima stay locked in with your content!
Nice, but why use plastidip instead of paint spray? Paint is cheap er and more robust. Is the only reason if you want to peel it of?
So how did this hold up? Here in 2020 (:
Also curious

Bet cause I know it’s a big old controversy between clearcoating Plasticdip in general. I also understand because not everyone has the time to sand and a prep. Glad the 2k Spraymax is guaranteed the way to go
Yeah , it’s definitely a risk. Not too sure how the plasti-dip will peel off with the 2k on it.
@@Eddrange True probably won’t all together but that’s the goal sometimes. To use it as a “sealer”. Love the way your wheels turned out too, clean af
I did this before. Results were awesome! Until I tired to peel it off. It wasn’t coming off.. at all 😂 But damn they did look good!
Wheels came out clean 👍🏽 I just got rid of my stock 17s and put some Rx8 stock 18s and they look sick on my car. Don’t know if I wanna paint them black or white yet though
Looks alright bro... came out clean as hell...
That stuff will be impossible to peel 3 months in the sun
isn't that good though =P?
That’s the whole point
@Rizu no dont use paint thinner ,it will bleed through and ruin the original clear and paint.
Negative. Takes about 30 mins
How long did the plastidip hold..do you have any current pics
how did this hold up over time? wheels able to stay white or did they stain easily?
I know its old video but you did great job. What are the reasons for the paint cans in the bucket of water?
Lonnie Freeman thank you! The reason being is that it was too cold out and for the paint to spray smooth it has to be warm. So i let the cans sit in warm water for about 10 minutes
I see you’re wearing a short sleeve while spraying 2k clear. You gotta be careful man, that stuff is no joke.
What do you mean by that? Thanks for the awareness by the way
@@Eddrange the isocyanate in it can be absorbed through the skin.
@@miguelfragoso7023 thank you! That’s good to know. I truly appreciate it 🙏🏼
So did you end up using the 2 cans of clear? Rims look great BTW. 👍
Yes I ended up using 2, 1 1/4 of a can for the face of the wheels and 3/4 of a can for the back. Thanks I appreciate it 🙏🙏
Mandela Effect THE HOME DEPOT not HOME DEPOT..JUST saying..nice video. Thanks..
Haha right!??? That’s what I was thinking when I first read the comment lol thanks!
How many coats of the clear coat did you lay down? Came out awesome.
I used 5 cans of plastidip total, 1 for each wheel and the last can I used on all 4. I only used 2 can of clear coat for all 4. Do a coat of the clear on each wheel until the cans run out. But just know that it can possibly damage the original paint of the wheels or be super hard to remove.
@@Eddrange thanks so much for taking the time to answer. Gonna give this technique a go on a plastic shell of an EUC I’m customizing. Going with a close white and black carbon fiber mix.
Great job excellent explanation too
You did that homeboy!
Can you still get full coverage on the front with fewer coats? I’ve seen some people use an entire can of dip on one wheel but could you still get the same look with 1/4 the product? If so, is peel-ability the only downside?
You would have to test it out to get the result you’d like. It all depends on the color your wheels are as well, if they’re silver you’ll need fewer coats and of course if they’re black you’ll need more coats to cover up the darker color.
As far as I know yes. I sold the car a while back and the new owner isn’t being to helpful lol
@@Eddrange I’m more wondering because I am going to 2K clear it as well and am not planning on peeling it at all so if I get the colour I want with fewer coats, will the 2K clear be fine on the dip if it’s not an entire can? I’m dipping my factory chrome wheels and that’s why I’m not using regular spray paint but so the dip can stick to the chrome and then just clean coat.
It will look good but wont peel off easily.
Super job.
Good job, bro
I know this is a really old vid but why did you want to let them sit for days? Does it really take that long for it to dry?
The paint dries to the touch within an hour or 2. But You want to let them sit for at least 24 hours so that the clear really hardens up.
@@Eddrange ohh ok thank you
Only the clear makes it way harder to peel off
Trudeau Must go that’s what I stated on the description.
Hey bro so i lay the plastic dip down then use any spray pain clear coat or is there a specific clear coat i should use?
Looks great
Where did u bought those spraymax clearcoats??
is that gloss plastidip or doff plastidip
muhammad alkautsar regular plastidip with a 2k clear coat from a local auto paint supply store.
How did the white hold up? is it hard to clean? Does it stain?
I ended up selling the 240sx along with the wheels, I’m keeping close contact with the new owner he still hasn’t got it up and runing. But it shouldn’t stain or be hard to clean if you throw on the clear coat correctly/get full coverage.
Thanks for letting us know how many cans of paint you used 👍
Thomas Rodriguez I believe 6 cans of white plasti dip if you’re doing the back sides, 4 cans if you’re only doing the face and only 2 cans of clear.
Are you located in the Antelope Valley area? How do you charge to paint rims?
Somewhat. Just depends. Send me pics on Instagram.
@@Eddrange I meant how much would you charge to paint rims. I’m currently working on my 2000 accord.
@@aricnunley5504 dm me on Instagram and I’ll give you a price.
Sooo 🔥
Does anyone know if with time the clearcoat will crack?thanks in advance
How long it lasted my man ?>
Sick!!!!!
Omg do mine now lol what state you in?
Great!!! bye bye west coast custom
hellow JDM
Clean
Hey Love the wheels , what brand style are they ?
Benjamin Rempel they’re Rota p45r 17x9 +12offset
Thank you!
I heard using 2k high gloss ruins the peel process, any tips/advice on doing it?
wordlife97 it will definitely make it hard to remove, I would suggest using super wrap paint and gloss. I heard that works good.
Edd Range I’ll check that out. I plan to plasti dip my mustang rims black. The owner of dip your car said that using any other gloss spray will ruin your wheels, do you think that’s true from your personal experience? Or is it BS. Thanks for the reply btw
wordlife97 it’ll ruin the paint if you use flexi dip instead of plasti-dip from personal experience but so far my wheels are good, I’ll make an update video once i drive the car for about 2 months, but I only did this because I don’t care about the original paint on the wheels, not only that but once the dip wears out I’ll end up powder coating them.
wordlife97 no problem anytime 🙌🏼
Do u have any problems after that that means if is peeling off easy or not ?
Depends if you put enough plasti-dip coats it should. By I would go with super wrap paint I heard it comes off a lot better.
I've heard sometimes when they are on a long time it can be a little hard to get off but I've heard of people just spraying thinners or certain chemicals on it and then just power washing. I think the 2k looks awesome on plasti dip going to try this on my rims very soon
Steven Smith that is very true, Goo Gone works amazing to remove plasti-dip as well as wd40. One thing I am going to advise is if you’re going to spray 2k clear just remember that the clear will act as a protectant layer to the plasti-dip. So in other words it will a pain to get the chemicals through the clear coat to reach the plasti-dip.
@@Eddrange Thanks for the heads up how long have your rim's lasted with the 2k? Also anyway to break down the 2k to remove it if you ever want to redo them? I looked up the super wrap almost thinking off just using that because that actually is already glossy compared to plasti dip
Steven Smith they still look new since they’ve been sitting in my garage since I sprayed them, I just recently put them on the car but the car is still sitting so I’ll make an update video in about 2 months, as far as removing them if you get lucky it might be easy because the clear might make the plasti-dip thicker. But that is just a theory lol I was just planing on powder coating them once this goes bad.
Super wrap might be your best bet, also may be even cheaper or the same price. Specially if you would like to keep the original color of the wheels.
Sheeeeeshhhhh do mine like that foo
Who’s this? Lmao
Jk foo I got you lol
Can I use normal clear coat
Try it out on something else first, just in case it has a chemical reaction and ruins the plastidip
How long did it last?
I sold the car a long time ago, I’ll try to get ahold of the new owner.
Did you use one can of plasti dip per rim?
Craig Commadore I believe I used 2 per wheel
What did you use for masking?
I used extra scraps of vehicle wrap I had laying around, you can always use tape or put pokers cards in between the lip of the wheel and tire.
@@Eddrange cool thanks, im gonna hit up my local vinyl shop, you did it the right way👍
You can always just order 2 yards of some cheap vinyl online that way they don’t charge you too much for it.
Make sure you use plasti-dip or superwrap to spray the wheels. I tried flexi-dip and the clear coat cracked it! Lol
What size is your rims?
17x9 with a plus 12 offset
Wheels specs please?
17x9 +12 Rota p45r
Has anyone used the 1k clear coat??
La ilaha illAllah
never shows them on the car lol WTF
Not in this video, but I do have another video out where I show them on the car.
Good luck peeling that, the 2k ruins the Peelability of the plastidip, good way to ruin wheels 👍
That is exactly what I stated in my description.
Why would you want to peel it?
Jorge Guzman plasti dip isn’t permanent
You can spray the 2k after it’s driedz
Dude you could have used tire dressing and saved a lot of time
send me the old wheels
Jedf Forbes where are you located?
Edd Range Glen Burnie Maryland ... the wheels would look great on my mustang as long as they are 5*114.3
currently have 2 bent wheels and been looking for another set and saw those and was like shit that's what I need and I'd do the center pattern gold my mustang is blue I think it would look great
Jedf Forbes aww sorry man/: I would have sent them but the bolt pattern is 4x114.3. Try offer up you can always find great deals on wheels if you keep looking. The gold will look sick 😍👌🏼
Rustoleum in general makes garbage products
Love the video and your work
But the music stinks
Thank you! I know lol Idk where to get more music from it’s frustrating haha
Edd Range
How is it holding up ?
Chris Oh I ended up getting rid of the 240sx along with the wheels. I never got it running. The guys that worked on it had major headaches, so i just got rid of it. Plus I had to pay off some debt lol
Edd Range dang
I understand how it goes
What’s the new project ?
Chris Oh So far just my Skyline r32. But other then that, I need to save to get another 240sx lol
2k over plastidip, what a dumb idea....
