Journey to Afmadow Part 1

- On the 31st of May 2012 at 3pm East African time... that is on Thursday last week, the Kenya Defence Forces alongside the Somalia's National Army and the Ras Kiamboni brigade made strides in the war against the Al Shabaab, by capturing the town of Afmadow. The town was a major base for Al Shabaab operations and its capture all but cripples the flow of goods and information for the militia in the lower Juba region.
Now Afmadow falls in sector two of the Somalia border... before KDF's integration into the AMISOM operation, this sector was known as the Central Sector. Other towns that have been captured and liberated in this sector are: Dobley, Tabda, Belles Qooqani , and Hayo... the capture of Afmadow is a milestone - it is a major route to Kismayu, the port town that has in recent years been the Al Shabab's economic hub. Willis Raburu was embedded with K.D.F troops throughout this operation and he brings us the exclusive story in part one of the series 'Road to Afmadow'.

Actually, we have 16 mil mi-28 havocs on order and have already taken delivery of a few units. Havocs cost 12 million euros a piece and are the Russian equivalent of the US's AH-64 Apache longbow.
That is what am talking about, once in military uniform, one stops being a journalist, red cross or any other.If they were to be captured, he would go in as a prisoner of war and not as a journalist ,he is required to wear protective cloths ,but not full military regalia. It is prohibited by the Geneva convention my friend, unless he is a military reporter.

There will not be any major battles in kismayo since alshabab has set up a defensive ring around the city they know that the forces will try and capture the airports first but KDF is coming from a different angle and that is the SEA alshabab is not looking at a sea invasion which is likely coming + our special forces are already bombing installations centers in Kismayo and doing heavy recon

I congratulate our soldiers, however, I notice they have so far not met real resistance, unlike the Ugandan and Burundian soldiers in Mogadhishu. The videos from the capital show real battle- they should prepare well for Kismayo, very well. It will not be a ghost town to be 'taken' without heavy resistance with battle-hardened indoctrinated Somalis ready to die for Allah and their country.

Journalists even if embedded should not wear uniforms of a side,unless they are press corps of the combatant unit.Although the Geneva convection is not very clear on journos,they should be in crosses, but anyway,alshabab is not conventional
