Great review I agree with pretty much everything you've stated .With that I will say I've been in the hobby for 30 years. I've never had more fun with a basher than the X-Maxx.
This is my take. The xmaxx is one of the most reliable and fast RCs you can buy. There’s just nothing that turns heads quite like it. Thankfully I do have the spaces available where I can just peg the throttle for 10-20 seconds without risk of hitting anything, though it’s less available in the summer due to tall grass, so I absolutely love it. Served me well for lots of abuse and minimal maintenance. I treated mine to the widemaxx kit and it’s even more fun. Upgraded the servo simultaneously so I found there to be a improvement to steering but I have heard it’s worse with the widemaxx kit if you leave the stock servo or are used to the upgraded servo. That all being said, I can’t say my judgment for mine in particular isn’t clouded by how much I paid. Used for $650 with the traxxas link in mid 2020. Absolute steal at that price.
I love my xmaxx and agree with everything you said. I keep my jumping under 20ft now cause otherwise you will throw pins out of the control arms. I have had my ex Max for three years now 8S and I have literally only broken bearings and tie rod and bodies
16:00 $1000 in 2022 money is $810 in 2016 money - that's 19% cumulative inflation. Its price hasn't changed since original release if you take inflation into account. Thanks for the great video! Love how thorough you are :)
Excellent review of the X-Maxx. I too have an X-Maxx and I enjoy it, but really do not run it much because of the size. I Would be interested to see a review of the Kraton EXB and X-Maxx. Keep up the great, honest reviews!!
Spot on with the Review. I agree with you. I run my X-Maxx with the Max 5 and 1100kv 5687 motor with 25/35 gearing. Double and triple backflips easily. I did have to put some aluminum in key areas like the diff cases and covers so that the drive train can take the extra crazy power and I have to use belted tires, since the stock ones rip apart. I also have the split center driveshaft. Rear RPM hubs and front updated hubs with the bigger inner bearings like the RPM ones. 26ft jumps are my maximum. I also had to do the extra tie bar hack on the front upper bulkhead, since that breaks easily with huge jumps. Chassis is fine with my 26ft jumps. My center brace always breaks in the rear area, so I'm considering going with the M2C brace, but I'm not sure yet. I just leave it broken. Another great review my friend! I'm also using the upgraded Xmaxx servo (stock one died after a few months). I use Spectrum TX and RX. I also use a Nylon roll cage that keeps the body in place and protects it roll overs and crashes. That roll cage doesn't let the body come apart in the rear (cracks and stuff). So I love it for that reason. Super durable roll cage too. I've had some pretty big crashes already and it's still going strong.
I have to disagree with the first half. 1) this is more of a MCG chassis. 2) build is super durable and really no more complex than most in class. On par with arrma and no less. 3) they’re not 17mm hubs man, they’re 24mm. The wheel nut is 17 but the hub is 24. Makes me doubt how much if any maintenance you’ve had to do with it. Edit: then you go flip the script, geez.
Yes definitely you should make a head to head comaprison if you didn't made already since i watched this a year later... nothing shows more which si the better one like a head to head in jumps and on rought terrain...
I have one. I didn't find it hard to work on. Steering servo is bad. It needs a good quality metal cased metal geared servo with a aluminum horn and then it is fine. I put a BEC on mine to improve steering response. I added RPM threaded hinge pins. I don't really feel it needs any more mods unless you want to go over 50mph or you want more punch. If your going to jump it over your head I would get the m2c racing heavy duty brace for the bottom and buy spare arms steering tie rods bulkheads and axles. I would give it a 9/10 I am not brand loyal.
Chassis slap is not bad! It allows the chassis to absorb the energy from the fall/landing. If there is no chassis slap the shocks and shock-towers will absorb the whole energy and than they can break. So chassis slap is a welcome thing but most people think it is bad... Sorry for my bad english! Greetings from Europe!
If you guys had to recommend a “budget tug-of-war truck” what would you say, I was looking at summit until I saw this thing drag it. I’d like a kit form with good aftermarket support to build a good puller, thanks in advance!

Good review as you always do my friend. I don't own an xmaxx, and don't intend to get one strictly because of the price. $1,000 for an rc is simply over the top for me.
