Honestly, with how little power the Steam Deck draws you could even use the carbon fiber sheets that TG sells (Carbonaut) and most likely get pretty good thermals out of it (also it’s reusable so you wouldn’t have to worry about replacing thermal paste every time you took the cooler off). Electrical conductivity would be a problem still if you don’t cut it and place it right, but it’d be less risky and also safer for the APU die than liquid metal as with liquid metal you have to worry about not using enough or using too much, and also how it may potentially eat away at the surface of the die over time.

I get it if you damage your screen why not "upgrade," but if not then just get an anti-glare screen protector and have the best of both worlds. If you use the touch capability of the screen a lot then you are going to eventually make the screen lose its anti-glare ability over time anyways. I think a gloss screen will end up being the better choice in the long run because of this. You can literally buy a nice protector for a tablet for around $10~$20 and cut it to size or even find one that is made for the deck. No need to open your expensive toy and risk doing something detrimental to its health if you don't need to.

Thanks for the video. With new 1TB SSDs coming out in Jan ‘23 for around $150 on Amazon, I was considering just getting the base model and replacing the screen and SSD. This would put the cost at roughly the same as the 512GB model with far more storage. After watching most of this video I think I’d either keep the base screen or just get the 512GB for the screen. I’d probably swap out the SSD later on either model. While I have worked on my own devices before I don’t think I’d care for this hassle.

I actually hate matte screens to the point that back in 2012 in my brand new 11.6 inch laptop I disassembled the screen and converted it to full gloss and back then I couldn't even find any info about such thing like nowadays everyone knows how it's done, I posted a tutorial somewhere back then, I basically used white tissue paper wet in water above the screen and kept feeding it with more water from time to time :) Cool would be if they actually made available a hybrid of a normal OLED and a reflective LCD because that would be simply the best of two worlds with the reflective LCD, the more light you throw at it the more visible it actually gets which both LCD or OLED fail to do as with them we can only count on raw light output wasting much more battery to just try to be visible and not actually even show it's quality under direct sun while reflective LCD barely needs power to actually shine quality under direct light environments and when it needs to shine quality in door environments or full dark is where the OLED kicks in. I think such screen was shown back in 2016 but I don't really think I ever seen it in use in any device sadly which is beyond stupid when my phone OLED claims 900 nits which is totally fake and it's still hard to see under direct sun light and just wastes the whole battery like nuts to just try to display...
I HATE MATTE SCREENS. I bought a 64gb model on eBay for 750 instead of waiting on my 512gb reservation after I saw the first photos of its screen. I bought an LG C1 48” TV to use as a monitor mainly because of the lack of an anti-glare coating. I cannot understand why monitors don’t use the same anti-glare coating apple does on their monitors and MacBooks. Not to be an Apple fanboy but they got that down.
@@huskieszn most TVs go for semi-gloss and most of them just simply look amazing and I'm almost sure TV manufacturers waste a lot more money into the coating than monitor manufacturers as the majority keep fighting the glare while maintaining them very glossy\semi-glossy and they keep innovating instead of just throwing a matte screen protector like most PC monitors 😞 I think the problem is mostly PC community which seem to be in favour of matte so most monitors went that root. There are still semi-gloss monitors but most likely the models you will like\want are probably gonna be matte only ☹️ In my opinion it only ruins contrast and colours and I also hate BIG TIME the new trend on TVs which is the wide viewing angle coating which made them lose a lot of contrast and color gamut and on pixel level macro shots they just come blurred 👎😠
I don’t like cheap anti glare coating. My old laptop was pretty cheap and had horrible anti glare. On light colors it just had that horrible washed out look. I now have a more expensive laptop with way better anti glare and now it doesn’t look washed out at all. Bought a anti glare screen protector for my steam deck and had the same washed out look as my old laptop, probably even worse. Instantly removed it because it ruins the screen for me.
This is extremely risky for the majority of regular gamers (not experts in hardware tech repair). I'd only recommend a screen replacement for a moderately damaged/cracked screen rather than upgrading a regular 64/246 GB Screen Ver. for a Matte Screen (512GB Screen Ver.) Though, I would highly recommend that people who bought 64GB ver. upgrade their storage from 64 GB eMMc to 1TB NvMe m.2 2330 storage (do good research on which one you want for price-performance). It is an extremely simple procedure that does NOT require you to be an expert in hardware tech repair. You can find a lot of tutorials all over RUclips or other platforms. Just thoroughly take time to learn the procedure and be gentle with the components as you work through it. Good luck!
Dude I have something I would LOVE you to do. I'm desperate for someone to have another go at adding a beefy external heatsync, like what Linus and Alex did, but locate it centrally on the back between the thumb grips. Do a proper job with less jank! ha.

Heads u0, if you need to replace your analog thumbsticks, don't get the iFixit ones, get the Gulikit Steam Deck sticks as they're hall effect sensors and don't have the longevity problems that come with the Alps potentiometers the Steam Deck uses.
It was a missed opportunity for Steam to move the consoles forward with hall effect sensors, but at least it's just a cheap upgrade away.
why dont u just paste an anti reflective panel?
Now if someone would make an oled replacement display
Watching you go through this installation made me glad I sprung for the higher end one. 😂
Why screw around with a little heated baggy. Just use a hair dryer on low. Or an electric heating pad.
What rather have an OLED replacement for the OG Switch and for Noctua to make a replacement fan.
That olan rogers reference startled me raw!!
I really don't understand the hype around anti-glare/etched glass. Scuffs so easily, screen protector nulls the effect, and the screen isn't bright enough to be enjoyable outside anyways. Wish they had a 512gb option with normal glass. Fingers crossed they release an OLED panel upgrade down the line.
Pointless replacing the screen.
he used to be able to see the clouds outside, but now he can see cloud outside
so my steam deck recently fell or something im not sure but im having like small white markings on it and im wondering if this type of panel would fix it and if so would it be worth the process because its not bad but its in the dead center and i might as well upgrade other things internally while i fix the screen just wanna know if someone else has had a similar issue and if this would fix that :)
I actually hate matte screens to the point that back in 2012 in my brand new 11.6 inch laptop I disassembled the screen and converted it to full gloss and back then I couldn't even find any info about such thing like nowadays everyone knows how it's done, I posted a tutorial somewhere back then, I basically used white tissue paper wet in water above the screen and kept feeding it with more water from time to time :)
Cool would be if they actually made available a hybrid of a normal OLED and a reflective LCD because that would be simply the best of two worlds with the reflective LCD, the more light you throw at it the more visible it actually gets which both LCD or OLED fail to do as with them we can only count on raw light output wasting much more battery to just try to be visible and not actually even show it's quality under direct sun while reflective LCD barely needs power to actually shine quality under direct light environments and when it needs to shine quality in door environments or full dark is where the OLED kicks in.
I even considered doing that mod to my monitors but chickened out because I rely on them for work. I probably watched your tutorial lol.
@@huskieszn most TVs go for semi-gloss and most of them just simply look amazing and I'm almost sure TV manufacturers waste a lot more money into the coating than monitor manufacturers as the majority keep fighting the glare while maintaining them very glossy\semi-glossy and they keep innovating instead of just throwing a matte screen protector like most PC monitors 😞
I think the problem is mostly PC community which seem to be in favour of matte so most monitors went that root.
There are still semi-gloss monitors but most likely the models you will like\want are probably gonna be matte only ☹️
In my opinion it only ruins contrast and colours and I also hate BIG TIME the new trend on TVs which is the wide viewing angle coating which made them lose a lot of contrast and color gamut and on pixel level macro shots they just come blurred 👎😠
You also missed why people want 256gb is the nvmc ssd instead of emmc storage chip. It’s much faster.
This is extremely risky for the majority of regular gamers (not experts in hardware tech repair). I'd only recommend a screen replacement for a moderately damaged/cracked screen rather than upgrading a regular 64/246 GB Screen Ver. for a Matte Screen (512GB Screen Ver.)
Though, I would highly recommend that people who bought 64GB ver. upgrade their storage from 64 GB eMMc to 1TB NvMe m.2 2330 storage (do good research on which one you want for price-performance). It is an extremely simple procedure that does NOT require you to be an expert in hardware tech repair. You can find a lot of tutorials all over RUclips or other platforms. Just thoroughly take time to learn the procedure and be gentle with the components as you work through it. Good luck!
Great content! Is that a Samsung monitor behind you?
My doesn’t go back on. The back light goes on but no picture.
Dude I have something I would LOVE you to do. I'm desperate for someone to have another go at adding a beefy external heatsync, like what Linus and Alex did, but locate it centrally on the back between the thumb grips. Do a proper job with less jank! ha.
Why would you do all that when you could just slap a matte glass screen protector on it?
It would be a cool touch if the screen pick had a little mark on it at 1/8th inch so you don’t go in too far. Just a little touch.
Man that would be freaking cool if they let you upgrade to OLED.
Aftermarket OLED screen replacement would of been sweet
Whens the liquid metal video coming!
