I've used the throttle damping as sort of a punch control for brushed motors, I didnt realize it was meant for worm gears. I also love the quiet mode simply for silencing the high pitched "EEEEEEEEEEEEE" sound that ESC's make when going very slow, I actually buy this ESC mainly for that quiet mode (also for the castle link software), I must have 4-5 now. I always make sure to watch these videos even if I think I have nothing to learn, and theres always something that I pick up from these videos. Thanks for being such a great supporter of crawling!
Hi. So programming the ESC means you don't have to worry about buying a separate soft-start and low voltage cut off? Or are you buying those devices and configuring them with Castle link? I think you're saying I just need an ESC and a castle link to address those issues
It will wear brushes faster, but the rate depends on the rig and setting. Set too high with too heavy of a rig and left to sit, yes it could burn up brushes.
My crawler has this ESC and my truck is too sensitive on the throttle. It has a punch to it and you can't creep on the rocks. Do I need the castle link to fix this? Is adjusting the throttle curve what is needed? I have the castle programming card for track use but don't have the features you can get with the link. Thanks in advance. You make a great esc.
I to represent with my home's hobby tie dye shirt. I like to throw a curve similar to what you showed maybe not hardly is aggressive. I liked my drag break somewhere around 70% I like them to creep just a little. I like to use quiet mode on my crawl Master Pro 16 t to quiet them down.
Mine is quite aggressive of a curve. It really helps on something like a 3500kv motor. Slower motors, it doesn't need to be as much to still have easy low speed control.
the ever present photographer in me says, nice lighting setup you got there. a little hot on some of the close up shots but i appreciate you putting in the effort. love your vids as a person new to RC. plan to get some of your gear at some point in the future, all the locals here love it and recommend it!
Thanks for the eye. Maybe dial in the b roll cam settings a bit, probably had it on auto. We typically have 5 sources of light in the studio. That and the background really made it easier to pick up detail in shots compared to my earlier stuff.
@@HolmesHobbies keep at it and keep improving! as a full time director of photography i appreaciate the effort you put into it. Also, your tie die shirts are dope. Mt go to light set up for something like your area would be 1 light has a hair accent (above and behind you), 1 powerful light (or 2 small ones) into a large piece of silk, savage translum, or other diffusion material. (this is the key light you should set it first). then ill bring a smaller light to fill the shadows at about 45 degrees to the key light. the hair light goes on the side of the body opposite of the key light (the shadow side of the subject). as far as the overexposed shots, the lighting is fine just need to drop your ISO a stop or close down the lens.
Ok for my settings I run my esc in quiet mode, I also set drag brake to 20 to 30% reverse mode I set to 30% forward to 100% with 10 to 20% damping with the curve set at 15 to 20%
VERY informative John! 👍👍 Is the Software available for Android?? I haven't been able to afford a Computer for over 5 years. All I've got is this old Tablet... I love my BR-XL. I want to add Holmes Hold, and add Exponential. Carmine 💥 ⛽
Thanks! I hope so. I realize that it would only be a "convenience feature", that doesn't generate any Profit... But I'm sure I speak for many when I say that we all appreciate these little extras!! 👍👍
Greetings John....I have a question, Does the castle Link power the speed controller through the cable from the USB port or do you have to power the speed controller with your battery?
I need to control two brushed (775 )motors for my rc tank project.i need to control both trottle as well as directions using flysky 6 channel tx and rx.please help with the connections and the esc needed.
PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE THROTTLE DAMPING!!!!!!!!!! I use it on all my crawlers, it helps fine tune the feel of the esc. this is just one of the many features that I love about your esc's, very adjustable;)
John what setting would you suggest for a 4 year old...I got twins who are always after me to run my bomber and sporty... bomber has HH2700 brushless motor and sporty has HHbrushed motor then all I have to do is try to keep them from smashing my 4pk radio...👍
I think the throttle curve does have a bug when you change the curve and then try to switch to curve none or linear, it gets stuck on the curve that was just made and wont go back to normal until you click around for a bit, easy to resolve but bugged. You can also load a curve but it wont show up when this is happening.
He uses it himself quite a bit it seems and recommends it often. I'm curious to see if he tweaks it a bit an releases his own version. Would love to see it come without the fan and fan plug at least.
Could also probably be tuned via the radio with a little RUclips search on castle programming. Use to be very good at it myself back when I ran a sidewinder in brushed mode.
Nope. It's more useful in a comp situation, but I typically plan ahead so I'm not trying to stop dead on an incline or decline to begin with. I prefer a little roll to the vehicle anyway.

This is absolutely hilarious 😂 when it cuts to a different 📷 when asking ?'s in between each segment haha.
Another great video John. I never knew what Holmes Hold did, so thanks for that tip!

Will Holmes hold burn brushes up?
Sticky tires on sticky rock ?
Glad to see this for brushed!

Is this still a good choice for performance scale?

Great information. Thank you!
Great video! Rock that Tie Dye HH shirt!
I need to get more made. They were quite popular.
Shaggy?😆
Thanks for making the detailed video. But I think not everyone has this and needs all these settings.
Cool john:)
So I just ordered a torque master esc and a 6s battery for my trail rig. What motor should I get?

No android yet. I do think they are working on it.

Does this work with the Bluetooth? Did i miss it in the video?

It would still be available on previous firmwares. If we dont' have to get rid of it to make space, we will keep it.
I'm glad too! I also appreciate that feature.

LOTS of punch control. 80% on the brushless. On the sporty, I wouldn't recommend handing a comp rig over to a 4 year old to begin with, lol!
Just bought one.
Can you use 1 program card for brushless and brushed esc???
most brands, yes
@@HolmesHobbies thanks

Since I've tried the on the fly feature on Mamba X series I can't go back 😎
It is quite nice

Does your brushed esc br XL come pre tuned with your tuning for crawlers
I don't have the throttle curve on there as stock, but otherwise I didn't change anything from stock settings.
Could also probably be tuned via the radio with a little RUclips search on castle programming. Use to be very good at it myself back when I ran a sidewinder in brushed mode.
Noob question will the castle link work on my brushed hobbywing 1060
Little late, and I'm sure you got this answer, but no.. a 1060 can't be tuned with a HW tuning card.. Castle/Holmes is Castle/Holmes only..
What’s a good brushed motor for the mamba X Censored and can’t even run a brushed motor
it will run brushed. Start with your budget. Most people love the crawlmaster and trailmaster sport budget motors.
nice shirt, i love mine.
6% dead band for engagement!
Mr. Holmes doesn't use Holmes hold?
Nope. It's more useful in a comp situation, but I typically plan ahead so I'm not trying to stop dead on an incline or decline to begin with. I prefer a little roll to the vehicle anyway.
i like my dead band with jerry.
ha!! I've got the shirt for it too
JOHN!!!!!!!! YOU MUST NOT REMOVE THE THROTTLE DAMPING!!!!!!
Didnt you do adult entertainment?
Wrong john Holmes
Good for getting girls though
