I've got the Gmade R1 with the V2 Stealth body kit running the Xerun AXE system from Hobbywing. It's a sick system with bluetooth to adjust any and all parameters through their app. I love it, especially the crapton of power it delivers. My servo is even stronger as I was able to up the power it receives. Lightweight and beautiful, too!

I have 2 TRX4's 2 Scx10.2 and a vaterra ascender. I run a castle mamba X in my trx4 and couldn't ask for a better esc. It has the low speed control to rock crawl and the torque to get over almost anything but then you got the power of the brushless to help you hope up on rocks.

For the hell of it and because I already had them, I installed a 160amp hobbywing xr10 pro esc which does have crawler settings and a sensored 21.5t Trinity slot machine motor into a scx10.3 trail rig and it is by far the best set up I’ve used . Unreal low speed control and is every bit as good as my HW fusion pro.

Those trinity motors had great startup for a two pole. But 21.5 better have good start up because that's slooooow! If it was a higher kv it would show more deficiency against modern stuff.

Okay John first off every video you’ve made have been very informative thank you. Now I’m building a scx10ii i want to go brushless now I’ve decided on the mamba x, what would be a good Kv to run if I want an all around great trail truck. I will be running comps when possible but mainly hiking some trails also wouldn’t be going I’ve 3s. As for weight I’m using a single cab hard body Yota with a small custom wood bed. So I’m not extremely heavy. Thanks bud 🤙🏽

Next rig will likely be a TRX-4 Sport with a Mamba X and a sensored low kv brushless, either one of your Puller Pro 540's, or maybe a Castle Slate motor. Got to say though the Redcat Gen 8 looks very interesting and could also be in the running.

You could have said "Buy Holmes or NOTHING". Nobody would have blamed you. But you were very fair, a Gentleman always!
The way things are going, I may never be able to afford Sensorless.... But if I could, your advice was spot on. I only own ONE 3S Battery at the moment. I may never feel the need to go any higher than that. Too many other problems and variables involved with higher Voltage, that I can't afford to deal with. 2S/3S suits my needs just fine.

motor with a Hobbywing EZRUN MAX10 SCT 120A, which at the moment overheats and does not seem to like the esc cut off function so it just shuts down and kills my batteries ( I run 2s & 3s Li-Po batteries ) . • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  5 лет назад +1

Lots of factors involved. The base cost is the PCB and how thick the copper is, plus hardware. Good FETs and drivers aren't cheap. Cheap ones might be OK, but have widely varying quality and reliability. More expensive means more power and cooler running, and typically better running. The SW4 and Mamba X controllers are incredible for the price. The BLE controller is also a great controller, but has fallen behind the times and is at the end of life.

Trouble free and you want what??? a Traxxass???
There;s too many variable...unfortunately you cant do test stand...Power/amperage draw , heat...ect on R/C cars...
On an airplane ..you sort of can..i suggest to watch some test stand test video
of motor.prop combo....it's sort of the samething as match pinon the motor's KV and size/wieght of the truck.....The Amperage draw are going to be all over the place...using the SAME MOTOR and KV..using different props..
The same will happen when you change Pinon or spur on a truck..
Why is that important??? if you only have 100 A esc....everything runs fine.
for some reason you decide to swap the pinon...smaller or larger
The Amperage might spike up to 110A or 120A...
Then of course...there's also FOOLs complaining why their esc fried....
This are that brand is a pos....blah..blah..blah.
ESC on R/C trucks arnt exactly cheap..Surely you dont want to fried
them....the same will happen to BATTERIES....if your system runs
      fine on 4s....Your motor and esc is happy...but you figure...hey , I'll
just use 3s...it'll just go slow..nothing will go wrong ....Yes , but it might also fry the 3s ...becuase the Motor is going to draw power or suck the life out of that battery super
      fast...( generate heat)....Trust me..I ve fried 3s batteries....when the 4s where charging...and I counld wait to play :-P ..
Rule of thumb...Get the highest Amperage your budget will allow...
Read the motor's spec CAREFULLY...It dosnt matter what brand
You can have the SAME CASING SIZE motor...such as a 4076...
the Power rating will be slightly different ...depending on the KV
      example...my 4076 2250 KV is only a 4s motor....the 4076 1600KV can use 6s
The 4076 Fried my 3s battery..
The samething can happen...in aircraft model...Over proping AND Underproping

I'm basically a toy RC hobbyist. I raced Losi years ago, but now just run around the yard, or go to an informal race on a weekend. I buy the low priced stuff, and modify it first for endurance, and then for a little more performance. My question may be easy, or unanswerable.
Can you have too much ESC? Weight and size being equal or close to equal, I've seen some very wide differences in amp, and voltage rating. I also see motor and ESC combos that don't sound quite like a match. example: (35amp ESC for a 4500kv ) You mentioned punch/holeshot being a factor if ESC isn't big enough.
Anyway: My question is this - - Is there any disadvantage to using an ESC that far exceeds the demands of your setup? Weight is not a real concern. Size might be, but if I can fit a high power ESC in whatever I'm building is there any disadvantage to doing so?

wanting to run 3S, and like to have wheel speed there when required as here in New Zealand we dont get to massive rock formations all that often.

Hey thanks for the information. I've added it to my mental toolbox haha. I'm really struggling to choose a brushless motor/ESC combo for my 1:18 scale Losi Mini Rock crawler. So far I've gathered that it needs to be a 380 sized sensored motor (4.5T or higher) and the ESC needs to be 1.7"x1"x.6" (LxWxH) or smaller. Biggest issue is that it has to have good thermal properties as well because my stock motor/esc overheated all the time, even on the stock NIMH battery.
