You don’t need a lipo for programming the ESC. NiHm have the necessary voltage to power the program card. Once you have the program card connected just scroll through the settings until you get to “Battery Type” then change it to NiMh.
Still running the stock esc in my trx4, 2020 crawler. Why upgrade? Will this eliminate the need for a bec? What would be the number one biggest advantage? Better motor control? I'm building a new crawler and haven't got the esc yet, got a recommendation ?
The stock esc has very little adjustability and not a very strong internal bec. I've had great success with the castle sidewinder 4 with both sensor less brushless and brushed motors. I plan to get one of the new castle copperhead ESC's next as they are a better version of the SW4 with the ability to run sensored brushless. If you want to stay with the cheaper brushed motors then the hobbywing 1080 is a great choice with a good amount of settings to customize to your liking and setup. All of these ESC's I've mentioned can be found in most big name rc parts online stores and local hobby shops. As for a BEC you will have to determine if one is necessary based on the servo and accessories you are using. All the ESC I mentioned will power a stock servo easily but if you upgrade to a high power one they may not be adequate. Many high power servos now come with direct power connectors so you don't need a bec at all. They simply run straight off the main battery power.
That I’m not sure. If Hobbywing manufactured the esc for Reedy then maybe. I’m not familiar with Team Associated products Is “Deathwatcher Mustang” the model name of the Esc or the RC car?

Question.. built a mini crawler. In reverse it crawls nice and slow, but in foreword it goes from nothing to medium speed. How do I reverse that so it crawls foreword? I have this same program card on an ezrun 18a brushless esc.
terrywicked Start by verifying with your ESC user manual or look on the Hobbywing website for your model to make sure it is programmable. If it is then you just need to carefully go back through the "how to connect" procedure to make sure you haven't skipped a step. What model ESC do you have?
I believe both the card and program box should come with the cable when purchased new. If you don't get one they are easy enough to find and fairly inexpensive.
Do you have a battery connected to the esc and have it powered on? If so it could be that the jumper cable is connected backwards at one end or the other.
I have the same esc as you straight out the box I've tried using Exact same hobbywing program card lights come on but dash lines across screen doesn't seem to be working for me Any ideas why ?
Do you have any other Hobbywing ESC's to test it on to see if it acts the same? Otherwise the only thing I can think of is something not connected correctly. If that isn't the case then perhaps you have a bad program card.
what kind of motor are you using with it? Because if it is "Sensorless" you can just swap around any two of the motorleads and that should reverse it. DO NOT DO THAT if it is a "Sensored" motor though. I looked up the XR10 user manual and it doesn't appear that it has a setting for motor reverse.

The setting should have been fine most likely. What brand and model is your RC car? Also tell me about your battery. Is it a LiPo? Number of cells? C rating? For safety reasons don't try to do anything to the battery if it is puffed up a lot.
Sultan Tel I think you should get in touch with Hobbywing support center. Explain what happened and see what they say. It's hard to say without being there to see what's going on but I don't think this should have happened. Hobbywing should have some idea or they might have you send the esc back for service. You will need this software from Hobbywing in order for your PC to talk to the box. www.hobbywingdirect.com/pages/download
I'm a bit late. But you have any idea why my max 5 is binding throttle to the steering? I can't seem to get the throttle to even register when in programming mode on the esc.
First make sure that the servo and ESC are plugged into the correct slots on the receiver. You can test this by unplugging both leads from the receiver. Then plug just one of them back in and see which channel is controlling it. If it's backwards move the lead to the other spot on the receiver and see if the correct channel is now in control. Be sure the wheels are up off the ground while doing this so it doesn't accidentally go shooting across the room and hurt something.
Maybe I misunderstood your question, the throttle not responding while in programming mode is a safety precaution. When the programmer is plugged in I don't believe you will be able to get any response from the throttle. You have to wait until you finish making your changes and disconnect the program card. The ESC will reboot with the new settings when powered up next and should be good to go.
@@TJsRC its not quite that. I'm not using a programming card, just the power and set button. When setting up the throttle on the esc by pressing the set button, the throttle is binding to the left and right steering via the remote (not the trigger)
It sounds very much like you might have the ESC and servo leads plugged into the wrong slots on the receiver. Typically channel 1 is steering and channel 2 is throttle. I like to use the phrase "1 to turn and 2 to burn" to help me remember where each one goes. If this is not the issue then something else is interfering because the ESC simply can't influence which channel it is being used on. Do you have any other accessories plugged into the receiver? if so unplug everything from the receiver except the ESC to channel 2 and try the throttle setup procedure again with only the ESC plugged into the receiver and nothing else.

Are you sure you have the correct LED program card? According to section 4 in the manual for the 880 there’s a specific program card needed for this model. Verify the Part number of the one you’re using matches the number in the manual.
Yes. Battery type shouldn’t affect the esc settings. Except for the setting for using either “lipo” or “NiMh” make sure it’s set to NiMh if you’re using that type.
Vic C It works with a lot of Hobbywing brand ESC's brushed and brushless as long as the ESC has a data port on it. If you aren't sure go to the Hobbywing website and look up the model ESC you have to check and see if it is listed as programmable. EveeKivi Blog Then you need to double-check to be sure the ESC you have will work with one of these programers. If it is a Hobbywing, you should be able to look it up on their website and read through all the descriptions and specs. If it is programmable it should say so. If it is supposed to be programmable but there is no third metal prong on the fan connector, 2 things are possible. 1 the unit doesn't use that port for the programming, you have to connect a different way. For example the Hobbywing AXE can only be connected wirelessly. The second option is that there's supposed to be a third prong but it's missing, either broken or faulty from the factory in which case you would need to contact Hobbywing customer service to see if they will replace it. Good luck my friend.
Miguel Lopez No, each brand has their own. For instance the two shown in this video only work on Hobbywing branded ESC. These two won't work on Hobbywing's new AXE system ESC though. Castle brand for example requires castle devices. The have a Bluetooth adapter to use a smartphone app and a USB PC adapter for using a computer to make changes. I believe they also have programming cards for some of their ESCs. Most of the major ESC manufacturers have their own brand device for controlling their ESC settings. Hope that's helpful. 👍
RUST Unfortunately most "brands" have their own programming setups. These two programers shown in the video work for Hobbywing made ESC's. To change settings on a Castle Creations ESC you would need one of their own programmers.

walllee814 start by verifying that you have followed every step of the connection process in the user manual. A lot of times it's simply a missed step or connecting something out of order. Do you have the user manual for the program box?
Something could be switched or not connected in the proper order. Some connectors will fit in the programmer both ways so make sure the POS, neg and signal are facing the correct direction if that's the case. Otherwise I would just suggest going back over the instructions and verify that you are doing each step in order. So is there nine punches on that esc and is the wires already come soldered on there
@@dustinplee5067 if you are buying a brand new one all the wires should already be attached.
Is the fan port on the HOBBYWING Quicrun 10BL60 Sensored ESC same as the other hobby wing esc with the 2 pin
I’m trying to program a Max 5 esc with program card.
All I’m getting is - - -- .
I’m not getting options or numbers on screen, just hyphens
Did you make sure the cable from the program card isn't plugged in backwards on either end? The ESC has power and is turned on?
Jason Halloran Did you get it figured out yet?
I never got it to work I tested on a Max 6 and I didn’t work either .
Just 4 lines across the screen.
I think it might be a bad unit .
@@jrocrcpower5949 If you tried on a second esc and it still didn't work then I would agree. Is this the programmer that came with your esc when you purchased it? If so I would contact Hobbywing, they may replace it for you. I have had good success working with them to resolve issues before so that's what I would try. Good luck my friend.
TJsRC I figured out how to program my ESC manually. A little trial and error.
Thanks for checking in on me 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you
👍
What if my fan port has only 2 sectors instead of 3?
Does any programming card work for any esc?
Miguel Lopez No, each brand has their own. For instance the two shown in this video only work on Hobbywing branded ESC. These two won't work on Hobbywing's new AXE system ESC though. Castle brand for example requires castle devices. The have a Bluetooth adapter to use a smartphone app and a USB PC adapter for using a computer to make changes. I believe they also have programming cards for some of their ESCs. Most of the major ESC manufacturers have their own brand device for controlling their ESC settings. Hope that's helpful. 👍
Will it work on other esc brands?
RUST Unfortunately most "brands" have their own programming setups. These two programers shown in the video work for Hobbywing made ESC's. To change settings on a Castle Creations ESC you would need one of their own programmers.
@@TJsRC i see, thank you.
thank you!!
derka5581 Glad it was helpful. 👍👍
great vid btw
Vic C Thanks😁
@@TJsRC I just subscribed thanks for the info
Would does work for a Xerun stock v3
Yes it should.
@@TJsRC thank you for the reply! I ordered one online and I thought I messed up lol
No problem. Glad to help. Good luck my friend. 👍
What is your esc plz
The ESC in this video is the Hobbywing Max 8.
I cannot get either cards to work. Connecting esc is all I get.
What model ESC are you trying to program?
@@TJsRC 10bl60 and xr10 pro
@@sonofevil77 First double check all your connections and that the esc cable is plugged into the port on the programmer labeled "esc" and not the alternate power one. Then after it says "connecting esc" does anything happen when you press the "item" button?
@@TJsRC I've been trying everything, I guess if it's not throttle calibrated it will not connect but I've triple checked that. Even the simple lcd one doesn't connect. It's making me crazy. I can program with the button on the power switch but adhd and all I have no focus ha.
@@sonofevil77 do you have any other hobbywing esc's that you can use to verify your programmer works? Otherwise it sounds like you are doing it right and I don't know what else to recommend. If the esc in question is relatively new I'd contact Hobbywing customer support and see if they'll replace it. Being able to use the programmer card and lcd box are bigtime features if it's not working maybe they'll work with you to make it right.
Need help my program box wont connect
walllee814 start by verifying that you have followed every step of the connection process in the user manual. A lot of times it's simply a missed step or connecting something out of order. Do you have the user manual for the program box?
Did what you did turned it on and only getting red lines no numbers any advice?
Something could be switched or not connected in the proper order. Some connectors will fit in the programmer both ways so make sure the POS, neg and signal are facing the correct direction if that's the case. Otherwise I would just suggest going back over the instructions and verify that you are doing each step in order. What ESC are you trying to program (not all of them can have their settings changed) and which programmer are you using?
@@TJsRC xerun xr8 sct with standard hobbywing program card
@@rcjoe406 On Hobbywings website page for that ESC it looks like the "Multifunction LCD program box" is required for changing settings. I don't know for certain but maybe these do not work with the old style "program cards" here's a link to the one Hobbywing says will work with that ESC. www.hobbywingdirect.com/products/lcd-program?variant=1181193952
You can easily find them on Amazon and eBay. Your local hobby store might have some or be able to get as well. Maybe a local member of your RC community has one you can borrow to see if this is the problem before buying one for yourself.
@@TJsRC cool I'll check it out thanks for your help
My card came on 1 time smh
If it's still new message Hobbywing customer support and see if they'll replace it. Or check with whatever Hobby shop you got it from to see if they will.
That program card doesn't work with my Ezrun esc
Why is that ?
Do you have power to the ESC turned on? Also make sure that you don't accidentally have the wire lead from the ESC plugged in to the card upside down. If that doesn't help do you have a different ESC to connect the card to to verify that it's working?
@@TJsRC
Yea mate wires all connected correctly I went and bought the correct plug to put in esc fan power on esc
Plugged it up correctly to program card
I get power on the program card but lit up lines on screen no program numbers or anything
Esc is exact same as your fresh from hobby store not used as of yet
Thought ill give your way a try rather than programing it all manually
Not sure why it isn't working as I can see on your RUclips video it's working and has worked for others also
@@MrRdizzle01 Maybe the card is faulty. I'm not sure what else to check. You could try emailing Hobbywing support to see if they have any suggestions.
Thank You!
Can this Hobbywing LED Program Card
Work with MST esc?
The hobbywing programers only work with Hobbywing products. Hobbywing does make escs for some rc truck manufacturers. If the ESC says Hobbywing on it then probably it would work. I don't have any experience with MST products so I am unfamiliar with their electronics.
@@TJsRC thanks
Can it work with all hobbywing esc?
@@geryang450 It will only work with ESC models that have settings that can be adjusted. Not every Hobbywing ESC has adjustable settings. A lot of them do but to be sure just look at the instructions sheet that came with the ESC or look the ESC up on their website.
