    It's not a diorama per se, more like a simple scenic base/vignette, but nevertheless this video contains lots of highly unusual things 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

      Actually scratchbuilding madness made me rethink my life decisions and I started this channel shortly after. It was after I spent 8 months detailing, rebuilding and scratchbuilding pretty much 99% of a 1/35th scale Nagmachon APC. Building superdetailed models is cool and all, but there are just too many other kits to be built.

When the main focus of a base is only a vehicle/figure, then the base is only a background.

    I just finally got a handle on my Photon as well, so I'm excited to start incorporating prints into my builds on my channel as well. Have you played any with Tinkercad? It's really handy for making your own stuff an fortunately most armor and automotive stuff uses simple shapes and hard lines. There's so much stuff on Thingiverse to remix and modify too. Awesome work on your "first" diorama. I'm looking forward to seeing more.

      I've been actually using Onshape to make my own 3D models, it's worth checking it out.
      Also, the Photon is a good printer, but it needs some extra tinkering and I don't really have patience for that. Especially the Z axis wobble can lead to some serious printing problems, but there are tutorials on how to fix it if you have the time to do it. I might look into some other printers in the future, some actually market themselves as having no Z oscillations, so I presume it's a big issue with the Photon.

    I have been looking forward to this video for quite some time!!! 😁 I agree that this scene, even without figures, depicts a specific place and conflict and the tank itself tells a story. Especially with all that battle damage. So certainly a diorama in my book. I know you may have thought, "Ohh this is just my first professional base, so maybe it will be trash?" But let me tell you I have learned many things from this video and I have been making scenic bases/dioramas for most of my modeling "career". First and foremost is that perhaps I have way too much safety gear and fancy tools... (curse you capitalism!) I also thought it was interesting that the Mr Surfacer 500 didn't eat right though the foam, I thought for sure it would have caused a lot of damage as a "hot" product. Maybe your Eastern European foam is much more resistant compared to what we have in the US. I am glad you are interested in making more bases and are already coming up with better ways to improve on things you did here. But I just ask myself now why I have a long utility blade knife for foam cutting when I already own a kitchen knife?? 😔😂😜 But seriously, I agree with you 100% about the extra details on the base. Just like tools on a tank, they are much easier to integrate into the scenery if they are added during the building stage before painting. If you have some leftover drywall patching compound you can see if it can be cleaned up with water- this is like a super cheap alternative to the diorama pastes from Vallejo, AK, and Ammo. Basically the same stuff and has a bit of that drywall compound fine sandy texture. It only takes about 30 minutes to dry so you can keep on going! Love how you integrated the base and T-90 together and your big brain certainly showed me a great way to make the tank sit on the base. My small brain adds the putty and glue to the base but then I have to try hard to put the tank in the right place and not make a mess. So why not add the putty or texture or glue directly to the tracks and then press down?! Genius!! Take care :)

    • @NightShiftScaleModels
      @NightShiftScaleModels  4 года назад +1

      i was surprised too lol! Enamel thinner doesn't eat the styrofoam either, it just makes it more malleable for a short amount of time, might be ideal to soften it and make track impressions in it. We'll test that out on the next base!

    I don't care what the judges call it, diorama or scenic base, it's Gorgeous! I watched the whole video and it went from a bunch of junk getting added bit by bit to this terrific scene that really made the model pop! Thank you, Thank you, thank You for showing me another terrific set of techniques and encouraging me to try new stuff!

    good to know that your backyard looks like my backyard / basement ;-) . Your scenic base looks great.....and I like the logical normal step by step work how you made the base ...

    What I found out, is that is you spray paint the foam with the color that you use it just looks better over all.

    I think the definition of a diorama involves telling a story, and sometimes that story is told in the absence of figures as much as it is the presence of figures. I think even certain miniatures can, in and of themselves be dioramas if they tell a story in the details of the build. I would consider your recent Tiger build with the mismatched and painted over camo and missing tools more of a diorama than a straight up build because it shows the viewer that this is a battle weary vehicle that is carrying on despite running out of ways to stay viable. An aircraft on a runway could be considered a scenic base, but if that runway is cratered and shows evidence of spilled fluids and hurried tire streaks, it's suddenly so much more.

      Vallejo? Not really. $3 each, I think. And the dropper bottles last forever.
