My Best Diorama So Far? | Crusader Mk3 | Tamiya 1/48

- My friends, it's time to make a proper miniature scenery in 1/48 scale. This time I'm putting all knowledge I sourced from the amazing FAQ Dioramas book by AK-Interactive into good use, and not only knowledge but also new toys - hot wire foam cutter and static grass applicator! Combined with those wooden road signs from last week, well, I think this might be the best diorama base I have created on this channel so far!

My friends, this project was so much fun! The FAQ Dioramas book from AK is a great purchase and I highly recommend it to everyone who's interested in vignettes, scenic bases and dioramas.
Oh and of course even a very cheap static grass applicator from eBay can do wonders. No more trampled grass!
I hope you'll have a great weekend!
This topic is really interesting, would love to see more, but how about some trees. I would like to know hot to build some trees that are spesific to northern-europe
Thanks for the tips! They will definitely come in handy!
I've looked up the FAQ Book... It's super expensive! Can you recommend it for a "beginner"? I've started modeling years ago and think about a diorama, but have no idea if I can bring up the needed skills...
What was the book you kept talking about, about dioramas.
Not sure if it will work but the polymer clay crowd uses something like a hand cranked pasta machine to make thin sheets.
It may be worth getting your hands on a used hand cranked pasta machine.
I almost forgot it was friday when suddenly the weekly dose of modelling goodness popped up on my feed!
Friday best day eh
+++
Every moment of my life works towards Friday 😐
@@NightShiftScaleModels Theres not many other options.
@@michaelspitz9151 Saturday,
Honestly, you can 'blow your own thrumpet' as much as you want, I mean, You DO create some of the best tank miniatures I've ever seen, and the dioramas/vignettes are so good! You have really an ability in make things look realistic, with shades and little details (like the singley-painted rocks that just give something more in the scene).
This said, I really loved this diorama, and I agree that it's better than the other two you did before, not that those weren't good, but this is just... better. I don't know exactly why, maybe because you've more 'experience' now, or this is just better respect the others.
Anyways it was a pleasure to watch this video, and see everything from this series come together like it did )))
Greetings from Russia ^D^
I have to agree! Another great modeller is plasmo models, he does some great stuff!
My friend: what’s your favorite day of the weekend?
Me: Friday
I mean, everyone likes Friday :D
@Night Shift The ones who know you like it even more🙌
@@peterjozsef448 So true!
The weekend is here and it's also Uncle NightShift day. Who doesn't like a weekly visit from Uncle Martin yes? Excellent series, thank you.
Haha
Look
Is that a JoJo reference 😂?
I love watching your videos. Not boring and I learn a lot from them. It's even entertaining how you speak and describe the project. I look forward for more.
I’m watching through all your videos from the start! Great tips and help for us other modellers
Martin is obsessed with perfectly straight 90° angles ;) and painting the small stones individually ^.^
Excellent...using this as a reference to do my very first diorama - thanks
Awesome diorama man, can't wait to see the upcoming 1/35th scale builds :D
Crusader mark 3 is one of my top 3 favorite tanks
This looks fantastic Martin!
The series is perfect in length, content - everything really :)
Everybody: Montgomery did everything to save Britain in Africa
Claude Auchinleck: Am I a joke to you?
You’ve helped inspire me to start making my own videos, thank you uncle Nightshift👍👌
Awesome!
Night Shift Amazing scenic base it’s very gud👌
Beautiful vignette, I like the mk2 crusader, but that's just a personal thingy. The build and base videos were superb, it's hard to truly appreciate your own work, especially when it's so immersive, as I can't really appreciate anything I've done till a couple of weeks later, as my patience only goes so far. Fantastic work sir, God bless from a far less patient Scotsman.
seriously inspiring to see such an incredible level of detail! Amazing artistry.
Great job on this diorama. Always love to see how realistic your models are.
This is my favorite one yet!
i just watched this whole series and it really helped me with my british m3 stuart honey tank! so thank you for being awesome! :)
Watched the whole series - fantastic stuff, man! Would LOVE to see more terrain/diorama videos -- not just the tanks. While you do an EPIC job with the tank vids - i feel like there's not many youtubers with the level of your skill when it comes to weathering and texturing creating terrain video tutorials. Keep it up!
watched the whole series, very enjoyable, look forward to more, new tools are awesome.
My favorite day, you've inspired my own projects so much!
Uncle, you have been dropping hints in the comments as to your next project. I'm gunna guess a Panzerjäger Tiger Ausf. B, aka Jagdtiger??? I can't wait! Hoping you create a vignette or diorama for it as well. Keep up the great work.
Looks brilliant!
when he said "you say friday" i was like huh what a coincidence, today's friday. but then i realized it was posted today lmao
Very helpful as always. Thank you
What a great finish!!! I think the vertical elements of the signs is actually a spoken diorama rule 😜 I've even seen it written down I think! 😂 But it is too bad those extra boards got a little too melted. I love the idea of adding the scrap in to give the base an even more textured and a "lived in" look. Important to think that the military sign guys didn't care to leave a very professional installation and wouldn't have bothered cleaning up the scrap trash wood if they wouldn't need it anymore. The story elements can be there even with the absence of figures. The what and the where already makes sense due to the camo schemes and road signs. But yeah I have actually seen some wooden planks left in the desert for a long time and they do get rained on randomly in between months of baking and they really split and curl in strange ways, especially if they weren't the pressure treated kind of wood. Maybe they didn't look melted though. But perhaps you could have said it was like a bugs bunny cartoon and the wood was just so hot in the Tunisian sun it had gotten droopy 😂😂😜 looking forward to the next one! 😁 Take care

Mr. Night Shift, you're gonna burn yourself if you do it like that.
I've been here from the start, although I might have missed one of the videos, and I'm about to go and look for it now. ;)
This may be a stretch for you to make a series about but, Takom makes some wonderful 1/35 scale model kits with interior and it would be very interesting to watch you build and paint.
especially weathering the interior
@@tiger-zr7se fully support this one - have a couple of MiniArt interior kits waiting to be built, would love to see "The Master" build similar
holy crap its friday already? time fly's by so fast, probably because i was sick this week lol, anyways, love how the diorama looks, truely amazing!
"I could spend entire week just cutting things with this..."
Say - is your neighbour reported to be missing?
🤣
Love your work. I'd really like to see some links in the comments to the tools you talk about, eg. the Static Grass applicator.
Awesome! I'm a miniature painter, but a lot of the stuff You are doing here will be useful for me for sure. A lot of techniques can be transferred there :)
And I'm really curious what would You do with some Warhammer 40k vehicles :D
Constantly blow away by your projects, can’t wait for the next series
Looks great but I would turn the turret straight as they are not in combat.
Maybe some cotton on the back and it looks like they are driving🤔
I love this guy it takes a real artist to look at a masterpiece and say it’s not finished
I absolutely love the tank cutting mat, where could a fella find one for himself 🤞. Update they have been found :)
Very nice!
Very good!!
Luke Towan has a youtube channel dedicated to step-by-step instruction videos on making various kinds dioramas. I'd highly suggest it for anyone wanting to learn more about techniques and such. They are also just entertaining as hell.
I love your videos! Keep up the good work!
Lukes work is mind blowing. Photo realistic at It's best.
@@NemesisroosterHis sky-rise with like 20+ interior rooms was so cool to watch! I'd love to just spend an afternoon looking into all of the windows!
Unfortunately it seems uncle Nightshift might have not seen it. 😆
@@rainwater739 The sky rise is unreal. His beach scene always blows me away, when he puts it against a real sky backdrop you really can't tell it's a diorama.
it's cute how you described highlighting without all the terms that mini painters use, who use this technique primarily. :D great result, great video!
Thank you for this night shift you have single handedly turned my day from bad to good. Thanks for these videos and well done : )
7:23 what on earth, which Spongebob episode is that from 😂😂
Let's keep calmer like a llama during this diorama drama!
There are tons of benefits that come with Friday
•No homework
•Last day of work
•Xur (Destiny the game)
•Uncle Nightshift posting a video
That turned out EPIC Martin! I love all the individual stone colours and they looked so natural once blended with the dust wash. The barrels and signs were also a great addition that adds a lot of visual interest then counterbalanced with the ditch area on the opposite side. This is definitely something you should be super proud of... I know I would be. Cheers!
Lets find that one heathen who disliked this video so we can bring him to justice! Who is with me?!
whaching night shift videos on (not realy) dioramas, i have found
1. he has more materials than me
2. it has to look good rather that realistic, i say this because if you have a mono-tone road (realistic) or a "marbeled" mix of earth tones it looks much better even though its less realistic.
I hope that you are working in the film or video game industry. Some 2D and 3D designers started with miniature modeling and dioramas. You'd make $10-30K/month as such a designer, if good.
I don't know if it's your intention or not, but you are so funny! I'd watch you even if your models were garbage. Which they are definitely not
Looks excellent. My only criticism is why would a Crusader be driving along a road past road signs buttoned up? A commander and/or driver figure in a hatch would make it more realistic.
True, good point - unfortunately here we hit the limitation of this kit. It has massive hatches on the turret and there's no interior, so this would mean scratchbuilding the gun breech, ammo storage and other interior stuff. And of course - I didn't find the balls to try painting my first figure :D
@@NightShiftScaleModels Air raid warning?
Yay 😀 uncle night shift
i am just starting the model making hobby but have never made a diorama what tips would you give ?!?
Loved this series. Picked up some great tips for a display I want to make for my British "Dingo" armoured car, when it's finished.
Many thanks👍
I loved this video, the Crusader is my favorite British tank. I'm going to be using a lot of these terrain technics for my gaming minis. This has been a great series, thank you for making these amazing videos!
yeah, when I see all those wooden stained frames they almost always look so last season :>
We need more Fridays. Martin you did it again!
Dude thanks to your tutorials I managed to churn out weathering/chipping on my gunpla contest entry in 1 night.
3:43: Look at this guy, covering foam with mayonnaise :P
can you some time in the future bild a Panter and love your vids
hello i am a fairly new subscriber and not that experienced in armor builds, ,I really like your content you are very informative and entertaining. I recently purchased a revell 1/35 scale m4 sherman when prefitting the model to together notice that the tracks sagged a lot, i bought a set of master club metal tracks for it, but they are way to small to fit any road wheels or drive sprockets. are metal tracks made for certain models or kits. any help would be appreciated.
Ohoooo always happy when a project ends, can't wait to be surprised next friday
Uhhh... I can't remember when I bought it... is it even mine?
@@NightShiftScaleModels "I swear officer, I don't even know how it got here"

That's truly inspirational modelling and diorama work for us to aim for, or in my case gives a perspective. When my friends tell me my models are really good I can go 'nah, THIS guy's models are 'really good... excellent in fact'! Beautiful work Sir 👍
Yes, I like the series it's kinda of ..... A little guide
I don’t remember how or why I found this channel (I dont even make models or have the time/patience to) but I’m so glad that I did. There’s something so satisfying about watching the projects evolve in each video. Love the content
Good job my friend doint put your self dawn
i could spend an entire week cutting things with it

You are getting better and better in making dioramas, can't wait when you start making some bigger dioramas with some story in it!
Loving your videos ,soo relaxing❤️
I enjoyed each video and always learn so much. Keep them coming - the more the better. 👍😎
I've just binged your videos, and your enthusiasm is infectious. The style of your videos brings a smile to my face, and it's great to see you taking pride in the hard work you put in to your models, and the amazing outcome! I love the small bases you make, as they all feel more open, leaving more for the imagination, somewhat like books vs. films.
Keep up the awesome work! I could watch your videos all day. (As I did to catch up to the current vids) I wish there were more to binge!
I wish you tonnes of success, as I'm going to be looking forward to vids every week! Greetings from Hungary!
Praise Uncle Night Shift.
when russian citizen couldn't build a tank, They build a tank
He's not Russian. He's Slovakian.
I really like it, best one so far. 😉
Ooohhhhh Yeeeaaaaahhhhh! Amazing job! Cant wait to see what you do next.
Another question. Where did you get that custom tank cutting board?
eBay to the rescue :)
Another outstanding video my friend! 👍👍👍
Your skill making bases has improved by a lot! Looking forward to next project!
Oh maaan, that introduction reminds me of my english classes and especially my english teacher(laugh after use phrase oh boy😂)
But anyway, super astonishing video, as always
Keep goin bro💪
Hi Nightshift.
What do you think about streaming your work on the models/ dios? I know its difficult to interact with the chat but there is no need to. I think most of us would appreciate to have a inside look every now and then in real time.
Cheers, some modeler from Germany
PS: i miss the bloopers :(
Yeah, I thought about something like that. Unfortunately it's hard to find a single static camera angle to capture the work in enough detail, at least I haven't seen a stream that would have the camera 100% dialed :(
@@NightShiftScaleModels a friend of me streams world of tanks with 2 cams. (1 for the face, 1 beer cam). so maybe 2 angels? 1 overhead view and 1 slightly from the side? it dont has to be perfect tho! and if you wanna show something more detailed you can put it closer to the camera. that would be so awesome! btw, i do have a free twitch sub via amazon prime i would love to give you!
gosh it would be awesome to watch and let the stream run while modeling myself. ( i always watch youtube when building models)
anyway, thanks for your amazin content!
Look ingenious. All the best for You! Be careful! You are the greatest teacher of armour modelling on RUclips, and what we will do without you?! ;)
Absolutely great! I recently purchased Tamiya's 1/35 Crusader because of your vids!
ooooh, have you seen the newly announced Crusader from Border Model?
@@NightShiftScaleModels no I haven't, my local model shop probably had it but I like the Tamiya kit; it's got two figures and stowage like Bren guns, helmets, etc
Very good model and base. Thank you for your video. Simple but so good. Really nice base and step by step.
The next morxxxx 🤣
Love seeing how you change techniques when you do something the next time over, and now looking forward to that big 1:35 model.
I am happy now cause you uploaded
wow absolutely blown away by this whole build. the diorama looks amazing and the tank too! keep it up dude.
I've just gone through watching this, from start to finish, mainly because I'm looking to do a Crusader Mk II in 1/35. You've given me a few idea's. As I've built the SAS & LRDG Vehicles so a Diorama with a Crusader and those vehicles would be good.
lol thats one way to mix your photon resin before use. :) what machines have you got. :)
I enjoyed that series, nice to see a British tank, and one of my favourites too - it's got a really interesting shape! 👍
Have you checked out Luke Towan's channel for diorama building?
I keep catching myself smiling for extended periods while watching your videos. That's unusual for me.
