Hi Everyone! I just realized there's a part I forgot to cut out that left all the people with dry skin hanging! It was an accident! When we were editing the video, I decided it was getting too long, so I cut out some products I was going to mention. I promise I'll get another video up for people with sensitive, dry skin! Apologies!
The most important thing is to identify where the redness is coming from and what causes it. Could be vascular (people prone to rosacea), could be weak barrier function, which often leads to dermatitis, but very often confused with rosacea. This is where azelaic acid could actually irritate the skin more and lead to more redness. Weak barrier means you will have to adjust the skincare and be very minimal. There could be things such as food intolerances and even deceases that cause the issues. For eg. celiac decease causes pronounced facial redness.
@@JosephineMarch7 Hi. Like with any active in high concentration you may need to build tolerance. In using the Paula's Choice serum and I also experienced irritation at the beginning. Now I use it together with moisturiser and is really working!
@@symbeljuno Hi :) I dont get irritation from it (Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%), I just expected some results as I have heard it´s good for skin concerns like pigmentation (my main issue) and rocasea (seems to appear on my cheeks recently). I dont see any effect on the pigmentation and the rocasea might be getting worse. Besides, the product doesn’t feel good on the skin and peels off when I layer more products.
@@symbeljuno thank you for the info cause I just started with The Ordinary Azeleic Acid and I get so many bumps and itchiness!! Im gonna push through and be patient to see if it’s just like a purge and then it goes away.

I love the smell of the azelaic acid from Naturium. According to Susan, this is naturally occurring. It smells like a Christmas pine candle. I hope that doesn’t turn anyone off. Because it smells a lot better than what I just typed out.
If you’re Asian and you get the red flush whenever you drink alcohol, you can take a Pepcid of Zantac (without food) 30 minutes before your first drink and it will make your redness significantly reduced. You can buy them over the counter in the antacid aisle. I’m half Korean.
I’ve been using retinol 0,025 from The ordinary for over a year but my rosacea is so crazy right now. Thank you for this video. I’ve been looking at changing all my skincare products to Korean products because they’re more gentle. I’ll try the rice toner.
Totally agree. Her products are great. It’s been a while since her launch, and the brand has clearly made an effort to be transparent and honest since then. I really wish more influencers recommended Naturium.
I know! I’ve tried several products from the brand and haven’t disliked a single one, and I have very hard to please skin! I’ve repurchased the cleanser twice and I’ve never repurchased a cleanser before that
I know Hyram knows a lot about skin care but for me, as a person with a skin of color, I listen to Dr. V, she’s a doctor specifically for skin of color. She also has her own RUclips channel. Dr V doesn’t recommend some of Hyram’s recommendations for skin of color. They will react differently. Dr. V recommends most of Naturium products for skin of color.
I love everything I’ve tried from Naturium. Susan has made it clear she’s realized what she did was wrong. Cancel culture is over the top. I trust her recommendations and she’s apologized, that’s enough for me. If influencers don’t want to recommend naturium because they are afraid of being cancelled, that’s on them. I just wish people wouldn’t take ONE person’s recommendations as bible, especially someone who is not an expert. I enjoy Hyram’s content but I also understand he is not the end all, be all of skincare knowledge. And I am sure he understands that too, he has said so on his channel. More people need to broaden their horizons a bit more and take things they learn from different sources and form their OWN opinion on things.
Its only anecdotal but for me squalane was a miracle. I bought plant delivered squalane from Naturium and after I think 2 months my cheeks (that I have chemically burnt btw) are finally not red and dry as they used to be.
@@rosieweaselby I apply it on my cheeks after serum and before a moisturizer because its so lightweight and absorbs so quickly I want to lock it in with a thicker cream. Thank you for this video! I tried a niacinamide serum, but looks like was too much. Actually increased my redness/irritation, but probably doesn't help that many other products already have niacinamide. I'm currently using a Azelaic acid serum. I also experienced irritation at the beginning but now I use it together with a moisturiser and I love it! I hope you will do a day time routine for redness too :P
Hey Susan, so I was wondering if Rosacea is common in people of color and what it looks like on people of color. When you google/research Rosacea (esp acne w/ rosacea) its always very fair women making it hard to distinguish telltale signs of the condition in darker skin. Thus it's hard to tell if going to a dermatologist is worth the trip. I think this could be a great video for this month to cover conditions women face that may look different depending on your skin tone or color.
I may not be Susan, but I am a licensed esthetician! There are multiple types of rosacea, so there can be a range of symptoms. Most commonly on darker skin rosacea shows as flushing (discoloration as well as the skin feeling hot to the touch, especially on the cheeks), bumps and acne-like spots that typically don’t respond to normal acne treatments (and again are usually most persistent around the cheeks), dry patches that can feel a bit irritated or swollen, sensitized skin on affected areas, and visible dilated capillaries (depending on your skin tone). It also may feel worse or your skin may feel hotter with certain triggers like stress, spicy food, or sun exposure. Again, symptoms might change depending on what type of rosacea (or you may not have it!) but those are the most common. Sorry that was so long and rambly but hopefully I can help!! :)
I don’t think I can post a link, but Black Skin Directory has a great article titled “rosacea in skin of colour” that I think sums everything up pretty well and hopefully gives you a better idea of what’s going on with your skin. I definitely agree that there needs to be more representation of darker skin tones especially with these types of things, and I wish more professionals in the industry put more effort into learning more about the differences in treating darker skin tones. But I hope I could help, and I’d be happy to answer any questions!!

Funny how you metion that we probably know why our skin turns red, mine is just red, all the time XD especially the chin. Still haven't given up on finding something that works for me!
I purchased this azaleic acid serum and my question is. Can it be applied to damp skin? Then my moisturizer on top? This is included in my am routine. I use tretinoin in the pm and am skeptical of using it along side that product. Thank you for the video and amazing products. I love that they are a one stop shop kind of products 😎
There's definitely a scent to the Versed cleanser. It smells like fermented milk or milk that's beginning to turn bad. It's probably a combination of the probiotics and the oat milk. I think this is a better cleanser than the Sioris milk cleanser. However, Stratia's cleansing milk is superior to Versed and Sioris. I've been on the hunt for the best cleansing milk and nothing has been able to Stratia IMO. Also Susan I would suggest adding the word derivative to your azelaic acid serum. I find that is false advertising since it is not true azelaic acid. Many brands do this, especially with vitamin c. A derivative and the original ingredient are just two different things.
I hear you. The Naturium Azelaic is actually a Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate serum. So it does kind of feel misleading. On the other hand... no one knows that ingredient name, and it is a derivative that functions the same way. Calling it azelaic makes it easier for people to understand. I’m torn on that one! What I will say is that the serum has made a BIG difference in my redness and skin texture. Sooo I’m gonna keep using it no matter what it’s called 😂
@stephanie sprinkle A derivative version of a product will perform differently than its original form. 20% of an azelaic acid derivative will not be the same as 20% of its original form. For example, Geek and Gorgeous have a 20% Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate serum (named aPAD, yes with the derivative name, so having the derivative name is fine), which translates to about 6% azelaic acid in its original/pure form. If the ratios continue through, then Naturium's 10% derivative is about 3% in its original/pure form. So labeling does matter. Marketing matters. It tells you about what you are actually dealing with. If I am searching for an azelaic acid serum, I am looking for azelaic acid, not its derivative. Same thing with vitamin C. If I am looking for L-ascorbic acid, but see sodium ascorbyl phosphate (or another derivative) as the ingredient then I have been lead away from what I am looking for. The efficacy is another (different) component. If you loved this Naturium's serum, then that's fantastic. By all means, use it. In fact, I stocked up and I am on my last bottle. This is an industry problem, a structural issue. I think transparency is important, and given the history and founding of Naturium, this practice is even more important.
@@veronicacamara7959 Great to hear you love this serum. It's done wonders for my skin. Sometimes it stings me though. My contention (see more below for other thoughts) is for the consumer that's knowledgeable & that knows what they are looking for. Also, I believe consumers shouldn't be lead to believe they are using something that is not what is on the label. If it works, this is fantastic. Keep using it. Adding the word derivative to the bottle enhances the transparency & honesty of the brand. It's possible to use the derivative form in the branding, just look at Geek & Gorgeous.
@A BCD Ooh sorry to hear that. Maybe you were purging? Sometimes I get stinging from using it so it definitely is not for everyone. Geek & Gorgeous have an azelaic acid derivative serum. Typology also has a serum.
I started using the Banana bright Vit C serum by ole henriksen again .Then today I have noticed my face went really red.I found out after reading the ingredients it has hyaluronic acid .😱😱😱.Any suggestion Sarah?
What would you follow that new moisturizer up with? I’ve been using your squalene oil or your overnight “marshmallow” cream at night and my red, dry, sensitive skin loves it. What else would you recommend?

question: can i use this routine if i have redness-prone combo/oily skin? she’s mentioned dry, sensitive, irritated skin but i was wondering if i could use it for my skin type? thanks!
Love your videos!!! And love the sass too!!! The facials you got looked amazing!!! Thank you for the constant intelligent info!!! Question for you, have you ever tried Riversol? It’s something I saw on fb and requested samples they were offering. It is amazing!! But would love to know what you think. And if I should actually buy it. But I was impressed. I have been told by my dermatologist I have rosacea. And a few things recently have been helping and some things I’m loving! Riversol is one. But it’s just a sample and it’s expensive for the set. And the dr. Jart Tiger grass treatment I think it’s called? It is crazy cool how it works as a primer. My dermatologist prescribed metrocream. But anyhow I love trying new things and also want to know your thoughts on Nuface. Is it ok with redness? I am aging and would love to get something that helps with sagging on the chin/neck area. And I have terrible smile lines. Please let me know your thoughts 🙏❤️

That was so helpful thank u thank u!
What would you follow that new moisturizer up with? I’ve been using your squalene oil or your overnight “marshmallow” cream at night and my red, dry, sensitive skin loves it. What else would you recommend?
You talked about licorice root at the start but none of the products contained it? Could you recommend some good fragrance free products that contain licorice root?
there’s a good acwell toner with licorice root that @glowbyramon recommends
@@nommmmmames i just searched it up unfortunately it contains fragrance
Would love to see a review on haruharu products
question: can i use this routine if i have redness-prone combo/oily skin? she’s mentioned dry, sensitive, irritated skin but i was wondering if i could use it for my skin type? thanks!
When will naturium deliver to europe?
When i saw susan is making a cute face close to the camera this is it im watching
Would you use retinol or no? I have mild rosacea but just purchased Naturium’s retinol serum.
Niacinamide has changed my life ❤️
I can sooo relate to the redness problems :(
I sense an azelaic acid line launching soooooooooon😍😍😍
Watching from Europe and just crying a little over not being able to try the Naturium products (yet)....
You didn't say at the end what you would use if you have dry skin for a moisturizer?
Cica, or tigergrass, is another great ingredient to help. i use Dr. Jart Cicapair products and they are life changing
Susan, can you please review Honest Beauty skincare products?
I’m confused is this a morning or nighttime skincare routine. Video says one thing title says other lol
Also, what were the other products we could layer after the moisturizer if we have dry skin
I know right! This video & editing was messy 👀👀
It’s a nighttime routine. She said she fixed the title....
Clearly it’s a night routine, she’s removing makeup the first step. Hello?
They changed the title. Originally it said morning routine which confused us but glad they got it fixed :)
Could you add Hyloronic acid serum after the other serum you suggested?
Do you have a skincare routine for eczema on the face?

anyone know where I can get this headband? I'm obsessed 😍
Is it a morning or night routine I’m confused...
Whoops! Good catch. It's a nighttime routine! Updated the title ☺️
@@Mixedmakeup It's a nightttime routine? It says morning in the title.
I really appreciate this topic! I am 6-7 minutes in and I’m confused as to why your skin is covered with oil prior to your oil-based cleanser? Was that a separate oil? Or was that just a very dewy finish of your face makeup? Really interested in trying your products. Thanks for the video : )
I had a dewy finish sunscreen on!
Susan any recommendation to tight the neck area?
Susan what do you think of Rocky Mountain soap face products???
When can I buy the Azealic Acid on the Target website or in store?
