I love Paulas retinol, I mixed just one pump with my moisturizer when I started using it. Now I can use it four times a week directly on my skin without any irritation. Once a week The Ordinary lactic acid,, and the other two nights are just Krave GBR and moisturizer to maintain my skin barrier. My next purchase will be the Skinfix moisturizer based on your recommendation!

The salicins in willow bark cannot be converted to salicylic acid on the skin, because the skin lacks the enzymes needed to do so. Therefore, willow bark extract does not have the same acne-busting, pore-exfoliating powers salicylic acid does. At best, the salicins in willow bark reduce inflammation and its associated redness and possibly have an antimicrobial effect.“green beauty” brands use willow bark extract as a natural replacement for salicylic acid, but the science shows that that is just not possible. Salicylic acid is a clinically proven, extremely important skin-clearing ingredient.

Hi I make herbal extracts and I have been wondering about this exact thing- would willow bark or meadowsweet extract contain salicylic acid? Sounds like no? What sort of enzymes would be necessary? Do you think a vinegar based extract would work vs. alcohol? Thanks

Susan- I have been a huge fan for years. You have taught me many things that I have passed on to friend and family and for that I thank you dearly.
Lately it feels as if your sales and marketing of specific products and ingredients is less genuine and more “trend-based”. I feel as a long time subscriber, this is important to tell you. Although I still love and enjoy you and your content, I find myself having to get passed more buzzwords and “fluff” than years past.
Wishing you the best in your career and hoping to see a little more real-ness!!! I love who you are without all the sponsorships and alterior motives !!! You really have been a catalyst in my self care journey!

Hi Susan, would you say that, using a Salicylic acid cleanser (from the inkeylist) is okay if I’m using tret at the same night? I have a combination oily/acneic skin but leaning towards dry during winter (from Canada here and our winter months are notoriously cold and windy… super drying). Also, wouldn’t be too much if I use lactic acid on the days I don’t use my tret? Obvious I wouldn’t be using my BHA cleanser, I alternate it with my Cerave cleanser cream to foam. Other serums I use are Argireline and Tranexamic acid then Cerave moisturizing cream. Thanks :)

I love a good lip balm in my nighttime routine. Right now I’m using a pink lip balm from Origins. I think it’s discontinued. But it’s a bit too expensive anyway and I don’t think I would spend that much money on a lip balm today.

Biossance is being incredibly misleading when they refer to that toner as a BHA toner. Willow bark is NOT the same thing as salicylic acid. Willow bark extract does contain phenolic compounds and is anti inflammatory but it is not the same as salicylic acid, which is the metabolized version of salicin (salicin is in willow bark).
That’s like YTTP calling a serum a caffeine serum except there is no caffeine present in the formula; just tea extracts that contain caffeine. Not the same.

    • @Florakinz

Hello from Finland! I have really dry and sensitive skin (excema) with clogged pores. What would be a really good all year round basic skincare for morning and night? I don’t use makeup on my skin at all, if I do make up its just my mascara and brows. I am really bad at skincare and have always just focused on moisture, so I have no idea about how to get clogged pores better. But I am also very scared at just trying products because usually that ends up with me having a reaction. And because my barrier is always a little loose as Susan shows in the video, it takes a long time for my skin to recover from a bad reaction. I would love to know what Susan and everyone thinks is good for my routine. Love and support to all from Finland! 💜💜💜
