    Plzz Can anyone explain why we are using transfer characteristics instead of drain or output characteristics for plotting operating point.

      i think we use transfer characteristics maybe because Vgs is a characteristic of FET(it controls depletion and thus drain current)

      It is shockley's equation basically gives a relation between the drain current Id for a particular gate source potential difference Vds the research article was published in 1949
