For your knowledge. The reason that we don't Play Bxb6 in the oppening is not because the engine says don't do it, it's because you can't give up your strongest minor piece, if you give it up, you no longer control the darksquares, and as white has already advanced f4-f5 the King becomes more fulnerable. You don't need an engine to understand this
I dont think anything was wrong with Bxb6 I mean what else are you gonna play that isnt much worse? And the early f4-f5 ideas itself doesnt seem to work to well anymore. I am by no means an expert at all but personally I think the entire Bc4 system is a bit lackluster for white if black knows their theory. I think the Bg5 is a lot more scary but that goes for both sides:) or even the g3 system can actually be dangerous if black does not know top modern theory.
@@ryoma1412 Instead of Bxb6 the usual Plan as you said is to Play Bg5 and trade on f6, another is to develop the queen to e2 Play RAd1, and prepare g4-g5
@@mrmarkstv6585 yeah but unfortunately it does not seem like white is in time at all before black bust open the queenside. Maybe the crazy 9. g5 would be interesting but alltogether maybe the a3 line is not so good
I put it into the engine because I was curious too. It's not catastrophic to take the pawn, but black goes from slightly better to slightly worse because the sequence that follows leads to white getting a little initiative: Nxe4 Nxe4 Bxe4 Ng3 Bb7 Nh5 was what looked most natural to me and white is threatening f6, Qg4 is an idea etc. Still pretty even in the engine evaluation, but black is on the back foot.
At 9:32 you did not explain why White could not play Ne4. The reason is Qf4! similar to Ng4,Qf4. Now White would like to defend with Ng3 but the N is pinned to the Q.
In the pause the moment video, I thought of Rxf6. I thought it was a free knight, but white has a deadly response which I missed. Of course, white can’t take the rook.
In case you don't already know, he has many videos covering Bobby's career on his channel but some of them are a few years old. Regardless, you can't go wrong with more Fischer games.
Can somebody explain why the e4 pawn was not taken by black when white played knight to e2? Blacks knight and bishop are attacking it with only whites knight defending and my rookie self cannot see the follow up..
after captures, captures Ng3 black has to do something about his hanging bishop. It doesn't matter much if you support it with d5 or retreat to b7. In either case, white plays f6 and gets a very nice attack. Given that Black already has a wonderful position its probably not worth ruining it for a pawn you really don't need.
That ...Qe3 move is so powerful and infiltrating, and is why Black won, but yet I could NEVER pull off a move like that in a real game. I'm still not sure why White didn't kick the Black queen away with his rook. Perhaps he thought moving his Knight was more clever, as Fischer would'nt expect that. Either way, if you allow the opponent to anchor their Queen in your ranks that early then your defeat is assured.
Agad can I suggest trying removing the border of the chessboard from the layout? I think it might look a little bit cleaner that way. Either way great content!
Was Fischer in a secure facility or something when this game was played? I didn’t know correspondence games were allowed in tournaments, seems like you could easily cheat
This is explained in the excellent book, My 60 Memorable Games by Fischer. Bobby was not allowed to travel to Havana, so they arranged for him to play in the tournament via a “radio” format from New York. 3:32 Hi Antonio. Fyi, Stockfish 16 at depth=40 actually does have 15.Be3xb6 as the preferred move.
Exactly so, white's game is already difficult.
8:45 why not simply take a rook at f2 by knight?
In the end, why could Fischer not play Rxf3 instead of Kg7 winning the knight right away?
F6
That was the move I found too (Rxf6 that is). I was surprised it wasn't played.
Qh4+ Kg7 Qxf6+ followed by Rxa8 and black gets mated
Why didn't Fischer capture the pawn on e4 after 12. Nde2 ?
