I’m not judging because I did the same thing, but do you realize how much of a nerd one must be to know the birthday of a chess player who died more than a decade ago?
Because in Russian we write Tal in Таль. The last letter is a symbol which doesn’t exist in Latin languages and makes the sound of a consonant “softer”: Tal’
About pronunciation. It's not Tal' with softened L (from russian Таль), although that might be the most often used pronunciation during his chess career. He was born in independent Latvia in Jewish family, so officially his surname would have been pronounced with long "A", like Tahl and normal "L" (from Latvian - Tāls), i.e. [ta:ls], and it obviously comes from Yiddish name Tal (which, I believe, pronounces without softening of L, but not sure about the length of an "A"). So, it's either [ta:ls], [tal] or [ta:l], depending if you use Latvian or Yiddish origin of his surname. During WW2 his family fled to Soviet Union and his entire chess career he was identified by russianized version of name "Tal" or "Tāls", which is "Таль" with short "A" and soft "L". For slavic languages and those who know him via USSR/Russia channels, this become the normal way of pronouncing his surname, but it does not mean that it is the correct way. Latvians and Jews will not agree with that :)
@@hauntinghaze5161 He was born in free Latvia, so by all his birth documents, he was citizen of Latvia, named Mihails Tāls (i.e. with prolonged "a"). Also, even during the soviet occupation we still had dual language documents, where he would have had both transcriptions - Tāls and Таль. And most importantly, it's likely that both versions are butchering his real name, because as a Jew, his real name was Tal, which I have no clue how to pronounce, probably - exactly as it is written, without prolonged "a" and most certainly - without changed endings of "L", with neither the softening (ль) nor Latvian-style ending "-s". So internationally it would be "Tal", I guess.
@@מיכאלניצן-ק4ח I guess you must be a Yiddish speaker, can you shed more light on how 'Tal' is pronounced in Yiddish? (hmm, interesting how this comment will look, since your name caused the comment field to use right-to-left writing...)
Also, Fischer was pretty good. Not easy to beat. Tal might have been Fischer's best friend along world class chess players. Damning with faint praise for sure, but still probably true.
Also IIRC, Misha was the cute bear mascot of the Moscow Olympics. An unfortunate coincidence of names as the USSR invaded brutally Afghanistan. I look at it this way: he fled to the USSR when he was 6 years old, and was only famous as a Soviet chess player. Adressing him by the Latvian version of his name is a big stretch, it's like going for the Japanese pronounciation of Hikaru Nakamura because he was born in Japan

@@mamtasingh2405 tal is gone he had health problems and always smoked whiched just made it worser which is sad i really wished he was here a little longer
Was waiting for a Tal video today!
Agadmator: "I just realized this video on a blitz game lasted 21 minutes, so sorry about that!"
Me: THANKS for a great video on a great fighting game!!! I am only sorry Misha didn't win this game on his birthday.
12:33 That moment when you manage to find the correct move for once.
Finally the video I'm waiting since morning. 🙂
I'm glad that from now on you'll call him ' Tal ' instead of ' Tal '.
Yay thanks Agad ! Happy birthday Tal :)
Lol!!! Rook is promoted to a pig!! I actually laughed out loud at that. Freaking hilarious!
Thanks agadmator, I needed that
This should be the "game of the century"
Happy Birthday legend.Sorry for a late wish.
One issue with the chess clocks from that time period was they were analog so you really weren't sure how much time was left, only that it was getting close.
I think I’ve seen this game in this channel, but still such a good game
Happy Birthday Misha . Love from Bangladesh.
15:15 what if you underpromote into a knight there instead of queen? Could that keep white in the game or would it still be lost?
Sometimes loving Pawns loses you the game.
Just do it like the Man who Sacrificed all 8 Pawns. Then those things are Not possible anymore.
Love the arrows. The craziness returns 😜🤪🤪🥳
I thought the title was about that little 4 year old Russian boy that played against Karpov
Nisam znao da je tako veliki turnir organizovan u Herceg Novom, svaki dan nešto novo saznajem. Pozdrav od Crnogorca iz Poljske!
Aww man can't wait to see this one
Very cool that Fischer visited Tal in the hospital. Just expanding my vast chess knowledge thanks to Antonio
11:59 probably the clock was on the right side, a move with h pawn takes less time than moving your king
Both players had two fully functional upper limbs.
I'm from iraq and I falling in love with Fischer's games
I miss Agad's old style of "Hello Everyone..." where he would be looking away when the camera is on and suddenly stares at the camera and says "Hello Everyone..." in his incredible voice provided by his old mic
great! thank you!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKHAIL TAL!!!!....however you pronounce it....
Tal we will miss you. 😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😣😣
i just realised that i have the same birthday as mikhail tal
Love the stories.
