About five months after the Palma de Mallorca Interzonal (1970) qualifier was held, the first stage (the quarterfinals) of the Candidates matches was held in four cities in May 1971. In Vancouver, Canada there was a 10 game match between Mark Taimanov and Bobby Fischer, played May 16th - June 1st. Fischer sensationally won the match with a perfect score of 6-0, thereby proceeding to the Fischer - Larsen Candidates Semifinal (1971). After the event, Taimanov was reported to have said, "At least I still have my music." He wasn't being merely melodramatic: the consequences of this loss were to haunt him for years. In an interview with Joel Lautier, Taimanov later recounted:
"Until the match with Fischer in 1971, everything went smoothly in my chess career. This dramatic match changed my life into hell."

Agadmator: this is the specific variation of the specific defense played to this kind of opening that has this name oh and by the way historically he chooses this kind of response as opposed to that kind of response because last time he did it it was in this tournament of that year in that location when he moved the piece exactly like this and not like that. Also do you remember this game by other players where they ended up in this position and played such and such moves ...

You do a good job of compressing for time (which you must do for RUclips videos), clearly have a lot of enthusiasm for these great games, and you cover the main ideas excellently. 320,000 subscribers? That's a lot for a chess channel, but I can see why you have so many. Add one from me after seeing this video - possibly the 6th or 7th of yours I've seen over the last few months - and thank you for your content. Matt Beckwith common, obviously major blunder by Taimanov with moving king instead of knight. Fischer great anyway

Thanks for posting. I wonder what it's like to have so much video of yourself. As I listened to this wonderful analysis, Antonio speaks of watching his own video. I believe, at 56 yrs of age, I have a total of maybe 20 minutes of video of myself accumulated in all videos in the last 15 years or so. I used to take much more video before the advent of cell phones, ironically.

These videos are fascinating. I am terrible at chess unless it's on an easy setting but I enjoy watching. These players are geniuses at their craft and it's all very well presented by the host.

I think the problem with Timanov was that he could not make up his mind as to whether he wanted to be a musician or a great chess icon. So, he was pretty much just above the average in both fields. Nonetheless, a good game after all.
