That's the thing, it was decided from the get go that Root A was going to be an original story, and it was him that wrote the concept for it. But because of producer meddling, the story was drastically different from what he initially planned

@@hehasnolips1371 That's not on Goa tho, that's just middle management fucking things up lol, even if as a "true fan" he should have realized the script wasn't good, Abiko already admitted multiple times she doesn't know what it actually takes to adapt a manga arc into a 2 hour theater play unlike the rest of the team, as the episode explains there's also a hierarchy in productions and unfortunately he's not very high on that list.
@@hehasnolips1371 This is assuming that the product would even end up bad. Different mediums have different requirements as was stated by the director and GOA himself. You can't 1 to 1 translate a book into a movie for example because the mediums are so different. You'd end up with a mess of a movie by the end of it. My guess is that she's going to write up the script and it's gonna suck bad and it's gonna take her swallowing her pride to ask GOA for help after all the things she said to him,

@@Saren_5 did you watch the episode? he wrote a bad script BCS he wasn't getting the right directions, it was all the people in the middle that ruined what the mangaka actually wanted to convey. Same thing goes as blaming the actor for a bad performance when the real problem was the director.

Really love this show because you totally feel for Abiko but also GOA. It's a great critique of the very business-y middlemen nature of the adaptation production.

To think all this wahala could have been avoided if the manga author and script writer had just talked directly with each other instead of being said by a bunch of different people.

That’s what I’m saying, just put them face to face, his feelings are already hurt at this point so it’d be better for her to get the proper ideas across to him in the least amount of time so it doesn’t disrupt the production too severely
The problem is Abiko and GOA are very busy with their work. She writes her Manga chapters weekly so she might only have time to read the scripts and talk to the editor after finishing a chapter before she starts the next one. And GOA is not only writing for this play he is also writing for other plays and such. He worked so hard because he did it out of passion for the Manga so he did stay up late and such to make it happen and even cancalled other projects for it. The telephone game aspect is the annoying part but sadly understandable in such situations.
that's japanese bureaucracy for you, in the west this problem only has at most 1-2 middle men, but japanese business goes crazy with their management.
Not only is this logistically a nightmare but Abiko clearly lacks the social skills in these kinds of situations to properly convey her intentions which is what was being pointed out basically all episode.
Edit: To emphasize this when asked what was wrong with the script her first word was "everything" which is so incredibly unhelpful it's unreal.
I think the comments were wrong about the eye thing because it's clear the person playing the girl with the brown hair is wearing color contacts

Aside from the joke, this is about "live action adaptation" not "anime adaptation". Anime adaptation is a relatively flexible process since you have proper reference (manga) but live action has 100x constraints such as camera and degree of movement.
lemme just say as an (aspiring) fiction writer who took a year long scriptwriting class...it's not that easy to make a story into a play, especially a watchable one.
Similar situation here and yeah, Abiko doesn’t understand how it’s an entirely different field with an entirely different skillset required. Being a good author doesn’t translate into being a good scriptwriter.
@@MinniMaster she puts so much emotional investment into her work that any deviation from it, no matter how practical, must feel like a slap in the face. They really should have communicated with her about this better, instead of just telling her she’ll “come around when she watches the rehearsal 20 days before the deadline”.
Stage Around actually exists btw. The IHI Stage Around Tokyo they showed is an actual location. Typically in normal stages the seating is arranged to curve around the stage while the Stage Around, like the name suggests, has the stage and screen itself curving around the audience. There's of course much more to it like the projector screens that move real time with the play but the biggest difference is in that layout.
Sadly it's been forever closed, probably was losing a lot of money and there were not enough sponsors. That's really depressing.

"Stage Around" refers to a stage where the entire 360-degree area is the performance space, and the audience seats rotate. The one appearing in "Oshi no Ko" is said to be modeled after the IHI Stage Around Tokyo, which was established in 2017.

Feel bad about both the mangaka and the scriptwriter. I hate when adaptations make a bunch of junk changes, but the scriptwriter was also fed a bunch of nonsense that made it difficult to understand what the mangaka wanted. If only they had talked face to face, I feel like they would have been able to make a much better initial script.
Meeting face to face is hard because like what did GOA says in monologue, he's very busy on much project. Maybe he could do that if he was only focusing on one project. The mangaka/author was also busy but I think it's still possible for her to have a meeting.
@@SB-hw7hp Yeah middlemen are somewhat necessary for that, but fewer is probably better - plus they should have at least one face to face meeting here and there. Especially if the scriptwriter is not doing what the mangaka wants.
Poor GOA, he dint deserved that. It was painful to see in the manga and it was even more painful in the anime.
Talking about live action, oshi no ko will have a live action adaptation, so it will be interesting to see how accurate it is

Akane is still playing the white haired girl, and Kana is still playing the brown haired yellow eyed girl. They just have color contacts for eyes, thats maybe why it seems a lil confusing on who's playing who
The reason why the mangaka’s messages changed entirely is because of something called serial reproduction, like the telephone game, where a message can start out as one thing but become completely different because of people’s assumptions and summarizations of the initial message they received
Plus just being drop, one of them said we can't do that we don't have the time to make a new set for it.
Well it also didnt help that Abikos messages seemed to be more of an angry rant than a proper comprehensive instructions. Even the first person in the chain who heard it directly from her did not seem to really grasp as to what she actually wanted.
Honestly apart from Abiko to say to rewrite the whole thing, totally agree with how she felt since she said they COMPLETELY changed how the character is

Toriyama: Because we entrusted the production to Hollywood, the work became a grand accident.
Interestingly, the first two episodes made a choice to move parts from what should have been in ep 1 to ep 2 (that's why it went back in time), to focus more on Akane in ep 1
There are the Netflix version of One Piece and the Slam Dunk movie version, which were successful when a manga artist suggested their production, so it has recently become clear that adding a manga artist to the production doesn't necessarily mean that it will become a noise and fail at the box office. There is. On the other hand, there is the Attack on Titan 2-part series, which was created by a manga artist to create whatever he wanted, but there have also been cases where changes were made to popular characters that were supposed to be there, resulting in backlash from fans and failure at the box office. It is the audience who decides whether something is good or not, so it would be wrong for sponsors and producers to decide from the beginning that it is inappropriate for manga artists to interfere.

Current public opinion in Japan is more in favor of the original author.

I can understand the mangakas frustration. I'm sure she started off nice but got more and more irritated when the scrips she got didn't have the changes she requested. However i understand the script writer being upset because he never heard her grievances directly. It's the productions fault.

the script credits being such a big thing makes me think it would be a toss up good or bad depending on how the play goes?
either a) abiko won't be able to write a script and the original scriptwriter is called back in to assist, therefore leaving his name in the credits as valid
or b) the script turns into a mess and it's pinned on him (industry wise and fan wise) since he's the public name on the credits (also the reason i personally would fight to have my name removed at that point. if it turns out to be trash then i wouldn't want to be associated in any way)

Just have the author and scriptwriter link up together and work on the whole script. It’s like they making such an easy task a impossible one
This just doesn't work logistically. Abiko writes and draws her manga weekly (most mangaka have an artist and editor to lighten the load and she does not) which is a hellish endeavor that takes up the vast majority of your weeks and GOA himself is also busy so even with Abiko had time to properly work with him it would be a genuine miracle if their free times lined up. GOA isn't only working on Tokyo Blade but many other projects at the same time leading him to have to work all nighters often times just to get this done in time.

@@gowthamketharanathan9342 The work of a weekly mangaka is not one where people have actual time to do anything outside of work usually. Often times mangaka's are known for working 16 hours days if not more.

She's only been in 2 episodes so far and I can immediately tell she's a hyper perfectionist and wants things done exactly her way. Those types of people tend to produce worse stuff and slow down the workflow when adding more people. It's not as simple as "just get an assistant" especially since that's not really how the industry works.

Why is she complaining when she sold the rights to make that play, if she didn’t care about money she would’ve hired a company with the caveat of her being the main screen writer. Her complaining is basically a child tantrum and her insulting the dude was disrespectful and showed lack of manners.
I dunno man. People say ChainsawMan anime got the characters wrong from the manga but the anime was a hit. I've been reading the manga and I'm caught up. The manga is kinda dogsht.

In the end I blame the "polite" culture of Japanese. They changed her notes so it wouldn't sound harsh and made everything worse. In the end she popped off. Which in Japanese culture is a bit shocking. You can even see the her senior trying to tell her not to go off.
I disagree about ChainsawMan, the characters are the same in both manga and anime, it’s just that the anime changed the overall tone of the story, but honestly I think both versions are good
