- David Pearson and Richard Petty ... it was the kind of rivalry that made NASCAR.
There was no hatred between the two ... certainly not like Carolina and Duke, the Red Sox and Yankees and Michigan and Ohio State.
In this special clip with the late, great David Pearson, he remembers his two most famous finishes with Richard.

If you didn't get to see these two race, you missed what real racing is all about. Never been anything close to it since then.
I agree with this statement!!
You are right.
Real men racing in real multi brand stock cars. Not the IROC racing we have today.
Back when nascar was well worth watching.

I could watch that a million times...heck I probably have.
Man those were the fun old days.
These men had their fare shares of battles in their carrer, but they had great respect for eachother! These were great drivers!! True ledgends!!
I grew up in Cocoa Beach, Fl. in the 60's/70's (about 60 miles south of Daytona and just south of Cape Canaveral), my Dad was a Rocket Engineer at the Cape and an old Ford guy. i never saw a Daytona 500 but he took us to see several Firecracker 400's and the night before Paul Revere 250 road race. We were at this 400 where David Pearson snookered the King...I was hootin and a hollerin when the Ford won!
They didn't call him the "Silver Fox" for nothing.....used his head and his throttle. And you know Richard was PISSED about that one. 🏁
Great interview. My favorite Nascar driver back then. Loved the Wood Bros. and Bud Moore too. Watched all these races on TV and got to see David win in person at Ontario, Ca. in 1976. Those small block Clevelands were absolute runners forcing Petty and others to run big engines to even have a chance.
Thank you
76,, petty is literally in a 4 wheel drift coming out of 4.
David Pearson is the GOAT.
Thanks For Uploading Rick And Steve
Both those races are 2 of my all time favroites
Omg why can’t we go back to drivers like this and cars like this. The silver fox was my man saw him win 4 of his 105 wins. I think is the best even better than ole dale.
No doubt about it
Better than Ironhead by far.
Easily
"Real American Stock Car Racing!"...we miss it🏁🏁🏁
Pearson was a heavy smoker with a cigarette lighter installed in his car. Buddy Baker was racing him for the lead in a big race when David calmly reached over and lit up a cigarette. Baker said, "When I saw him light up that cigarette I knew he had me beat right there!"
Can't smoke
Pearson was the coolest driver ever
Nice racing between those two 👌 👏 👍 😀
Class Guys, I do miss them days for sure. Im sure D Person was smiling biiiig when H Burton won Daytona last week w the wood bro..
My old man was there. He said it was awesome. Long live the Silver Fox! In the 76 race Pearson had to calm and cool to keep his shit running and Petty didn’t. my dad says they are videos that you can actually see the exhaust coming out of Pearson’s car as he was pushing the gas keeping it running
Pearson was a real BADASS!!!!
THE GREATEST RACE EVER / THEY BOTH TALKED PRE/RACE EVERY TIME ( 1 LAP COUNTS) SO WITH 5 TO GO LETS RUN 1/2 THEN IT" S WHO CARES GLOVES OFF / THE 2 BEST FOREVER 😅❤❤❤😅
I had a pair of those cars in diecast signed by both drivers on both cars.
M’s Husband, never heard Chess explained so well, I never got past checkers 🔥
MEMS / 1976 FEB = FIREBALL ROBERTS GRANDSTAND ROW 23 SEATS 1-3 USHER WAS HARLY HOFFMAN ( WORKED AT GE WHEN IT WAS ACROSS ST ) I REMEMBER LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY NOT 50 YEARS AGO 😅😅❤
I was at the 1974 firecracker 400. Pulling for petty but that was an amazing duel.
When i was a kid, Pearson was my favorite
No one blocked then. When F1 guys came over here, blocking was presented.
I just wrote you a long post on the Jimmy Spencer III
They don’t call him the silver fox for nothing!!!! #21
Nobody's gonna comment about 4:17....
When racers were racers little spoilers no splitter and bias ply tires real racing.
Imagine that! Petty couldn’t cheat his way to a win
Racing was fun to watch back then. Sadly I cant watch NASCAR anymore. Too may crybabies and nobodies.
The best two drivers NASCAR ever had! Irreplaceable.
Richard petty sucks
Easy Georgeyboy
Firstly I’m a David Pearson Fan
Having said that, Richard is in my opinion the 2nd greatest driver ( to of course Pearson ) of all time
As a person he’s one of the nicest most considerate human beings of ever had the pleasure to meet
The “OLD” guard ( Pearson, Petty, Cale, Bobby, etc ) are THE BEST there ever was, is or ever be in NASCAR
@@blawson2112 yes my father actually raced with ernie Irvin’s father way back before in the Ernie ever went into racing, so I love the old NASCAR races not a big fan of today’s,
