    So when Jimmie "jumps" its illegal, but when Denny easily jumps its all fine and dandy?
    BTW, the reason HMS was caught cheating so often is because they were always winning. You think they're gonna tell the last place team they're getting DQ'd? Hell nah. Everyone cheats in NASCAR, and youre delusional if you think otherwise. Jimmie, Jeff, and HMS just did it better than everyone else.

    When Chad was telling Jimmie to back the car into the wall, i would bet that there was something else on the car and there was nothing wrong with the back if the car. Looked like Chad even looked at the on board camera. Chad ain't stupid.

    I remember Ricky Stenthouse Jr blew an engine coming to the checker flag in 2011. And teammate Carl Edwards ran into the back of his car. No one accused them of cheating. DW talk about the 85' All Star incident in his autobiography and while he confessed to doing some things in his NASCAR career that weren't by the rule book, but he didn't name this among them.
    "An autobiography. That's a book about cars, right?" - Darrell Waltrip in "DW: A Lifetime of Going in Circles."

    Smokey Yunick, responsible for about 95% of the rulebook. It was a cat and mouse game between he and the rule makers at the time, some of the things he did were absolutely amazing. I hold him in the same regard as Zakspeed's shenanigans with the Viper and the Nurburgring 24H in the 2000s, same as Penske's cheating (I mean when the late great Mark Donhue's book is literally called Unfair Advantage), and so forth. At one point in the 80s or 90s it is said that a good chunk of the field were rolling off with cars that were legal in pre race inspection but were illegal by, oh I don't know, the time they got onto the track before the green flag even dropped. From DW's ballast tricks to trick shocks that crumbled and lowered the car, to laying the spoiler flat, those are the ones that spring to mind.
    EDIT: Oh and Bumpergate too at the Daytona 500. Not only did Bobby get a caution, he also ran much better without the bumper on his car in 82 as well

      Ol' Smokey was only responsible for about 60% of the rulebook. The rest was Junior Johnson, Chad Knaus, Richard Petty, Penske, etc. Give some credit/blame to those responsible - don't just credit/blame the one guy.

    I don't understand how people get mad when a team like Hendrick or Gibbs get caught. Why do you think teams like that have so many wins? If you ran a car 100 percent by the rule book, you would be near the back of the field. Even with the Next Gen car and "spec" parts. Teams like Hendrick, Gibbs, and Stewart-Haas more than once have tried to get away with making little tweaks just to get that slight edge. Getting a slight edge with how close together the field spread is with the Next Gen car is everything. NASCAR has always been about working in the grey areas of the rule book, and I love that.

    Heres an idea, NASCAR announces any team caught breaking rules or acting inside of a gray area will be sitting on the sidelines for the rest of season. Want it to stop? That will do it. Of course, NASCAR would have to back it up if someone was stupid enough to try it.

    Every team has a "innovative car guy" who knows mecahnical engineering, welding, fabrication ect. It was up to each team back then to find a way to out innovate their rival innovators. With big money on the line these owners have to have known and cosigned knowing what the deal was and the kinds of risks their crew chiefs were taking just to stay competively cheating. After "the car of tommorow" and all the new templates some just retired and said "naaaah im good".

    Chad Knaus Planning Jimmie To Win This Race 3:05

  • @daviddillman4412
    @daviddillman4412 5 месяцев назад +5

    Jimmy’s 5 consecutive championships were mainly done by cheating. They were doing stuff to the intake of the engine for a few of those years and never got caught. Messing with the pillars front and rear. I don’t see how they can sleep at night and feel like they actually won that many. If it wasn’t for the cheating they realistically would have only 2 or 3 legit championships

    • @gchampi2
      @gchampi2 5 месяцев назад

      And your point is??? In NASCAR, if you aren't cheating, you aren't going to win. Hell, half the time, if you aren't cheating, you aren't qualifying for the race...

    • @King1614
      @King1614 5 месяцев назад

      Wasn’t cheating, they did things that weren’t addressed in the rule book and made nascar make a decision on it. Just like when they were loading the rear sway bars up to trick the car into thinking it had a stiffer RR spring, when they made truck arm bushings out of weak material to make the LR roll forward, and when they put a massive track bar split to skew the rear end over. Now there’s rules against that.
