I was betting on Annamiek van Vleuten winning the TDF Femmes avec Zwift and just yesterday, was feeling disappointed that she wasn't making a mark. What a change a day in the mountains can make! It is kind of strange, however, that the video makes no mention of Marianne Vos.
@@commonsensethecynosure1639 Are you me? Because Fabian Cancellara is my most favorite cyclist of all time. And I always knew Annamiek was special. I shouldn't have doubted her. Hopefully, Movistar do a good job of protecting her lead now.
For those of us not familiar with the female riders it would have been nice to hear that information from the coverage. I wondered the same thing. Could the Yellow Jersey’s team not pull her through? I guess they didn’t even try.
@@jeffmaccheyne4952 there's no way a team can pull a rider like Vos, who's not a pure climber, through 3 Category 1 climbs. If this was possible, Peter Sagan would have won multiple Tour de France races.
@@wujekg vos is not a climber, she wasn’t going for the yellow jersey at the end, but for the sprint races which she did brilliantly and with that came the yellow jersey.
@@wujekg Yes, it is a shame. Maillot Jaune is not just something, normally it is part of honor to defend it till the end or at least try to and also look at it even if change is clear. Anyway, it is difficult to stop van Vleuten when she is willing to win, but the rest should consider their tactics. It is one thing that she often wins and the other how she wins. However, it starts to become a serious tour now dominated by the competition more than crashes and strange events. It could become a great final now. Hopefully, there are some ideas how to at least anoy the leader a bit.
It's the same for Paracycling (for people with disabilities). The Dutch clean up. They don't mess around when it comes to bike racing. Lots of support for their athletes. Not unlike Scandinavian countries and Nordic skiing, I guess.
wth?! there is zero coverage of Marianna Vos, and zero explanation of her having yellow jersey to finishing 10 minutes back, AND losing the race in total... what happened?
Wow, what a disparity in abilities in that peloton. That was indeed a mountain time trial. How come there is such a difference between one rider, then another rider, then a few and then the rest? Can we expect the same tomorrow? Epic win to get the Mailloy Jaune. Well done
Because that's the way it is with most sport, why did Hamilton is 8 time WC with over 100 win when most other driver couldn't get 1 podium in their career? Why did Sydney Mclaughlin is over 1 second over everyone else in 400M hurdles when most other is within few hundredth? Why did New England Patriots win so many SuperBowl compare to all other? Why did Usain Bolt dominate 100M for decades? What a disparity in sport in general!!
There are several continental teams in there with much less experience. Also, most women aren't paid, or paid enough to train full-time outside of a FT or seasonal job, while some earn enough from sponsors to train FT.
@@mracer8 erm .. comparing Hamilton to the rest of F1 is nothing like this. There simply isn't the depth of talent in the women's peloton (as yet) a lot of these riders are basically amateurs. There are a handful of strong riders and then that's it. The whole point of the TDF is to let young girls see the racing and want to be doing it. it will be 10 years before it's anywhere near as competitive as the men. But this is a start
There are definitely not as many consistently great all-around riders in the peloton as others have said, due to the disparity in sponsorship opportunities that allow for more training and financial support to the men compared to the women. However this was also a different stage compared to the last stages, requiring different types of abilities. Also a smaller team of support riders compared to the men, and the women only have 8 stages to build points and wins while the men have nearly three times that. Lots of room to grow and achieve for these amazing women, can't wait for next year!
In this Tour de France Femmes 2022 there are 32 (8 stages times 4 jerseys) different jerseys. Only 2 of these 32 jerseys were NOT given to Dutch riders. TDFF is an all-Dutch show...
Right? The two top climbers hail from the flattest country in Europe, and if you scan the team rosters, you'll find a disproportionately large number of Dutch riders. An all-Dutch show indeed.
@@hollandmeester347 And AG Insurance-NXTG, Liv Racing Xstra, Team DSM, Parkhotel Valkenburg and SD Worx are Dutch as well. That identifies where the money originally comes from but it doesn't really matter for national representation (unless you look at the total number of teams from The Netherlands...wow). Pro cycling is definitely not the Olympics. The team rosters are truly international.
AvV is in a class by herself. I do not think she could be neutralized with even the tactics and a strong team like JV in the men's race. Her climbing ability is that much better. I, however, am not sure why the team tactics are not more sophisticated in the women's race. Everyone was predicting AvV to gap the field when it came to the mountains. It did not look like there was even a team attempt to challenge that. I may just no be seeing it though.
I think it's due in general to the lower competitiveness compared to the men's race, the men's tour de france attracts a lot of sponsors and money and is treated in a maniacal way by all the teams and in general the possibilities that are offered to the various athletes are better (like the quality of the athletes themselves, on the other hand). To this we must add that for men, going faster uphill, the importance of slipstream is greater and it's more difficult to escape alone against a well organized team.
So tomorrow is the last day? This race is nowhere near long enough if it can be entirely decided in one stage. What was the point of all the previous stages?
SDW not nearly as strong as I thought that team would be. No help for Vollering today, Kopecky with back-to-back weak sprint finishes. The team did win one stage, but overall expected more from that group.

It seems to me, that women racing is way more about some outstanding personalities who basically are alrounders and dominate the rest of the field. 10-15women who are just better in basically everything than the rest.
I think it maybe comes down to smaller budgets and smaller teams. Teams can’t afford to have specialists like dedicated sprinters/climbers etc so they focus on really strong all-rounders. Maybe? I dunno?
We have to admit that the interest for the sport by young girls as the perspective to be part of a decent pro team has only started in the last decade. Look at the videos of bike and equipment sponsors of DCRainmaker and you will see that this year saw a major improvement in terms of sponsorships. This Tour de France for women is most certainly a major reason for it.
