This is what it looks like when you put the entire peloton in the dumpster but are also super nice about it. Great win from a class rider.
It actually sounds extremely condescending, it's the classic "idol talk", the whole tired "eat your vegetables and you can be like me" saying - Bitch, I'm not trying to be like you, I'm trying to beat your fucking ass
She literally talked to her rivals like she's in a completely different league and that the rest may never ever be able to reach her heights
Normally, we'd be shocked by a rider finishing 2 minutes ahead of all GC competitors after 60km of solo riding. In this case, that person was Demi Vollering and she finished in second place, 3 and 1/2 minutes behind AVV. What a crazy performance.
This is why this race needs more stages!
@@CharlotteRaine why? so AVV can extend her lead?
@@cormackeeney3897 no, so we can find out who can win a longer stage race! The men in yellow at stage 8 are usually not still in yellow at stage 21. AVV is dominant in 8-10 day races, but we have no idea if she can sustain it longer. What if 2-3 days in the mountains is her limit? Could someone else overtake her afterwards?
Also women start to catch up to men in recovery ability when races get very very long - eg women have won in a mixed field in the TCR.
@@CharlotteRaine I think if you can get people to watch a 7 day race maybe you have an argument for a longer version. As it stands the stages are too long and quite boring most of the time.
Van vlueten also gives a good interview after-well spoken, gracious, clear.
What a rider. On the scale of wva
What a refreshingly brilliant interview.
LR, thanks for doing a right proper review of the Tour de France Femmes stages.
Annemiek, thanks for the show, you're by far, the best,no doubt and she will end with the double!!!giro donne and TDF, well deserved champion 🏆😎❤️
What can one say? Annemiek is just an amazing athlete who seems to get better with age.
Well she noticed this year she isn't improving anymore for the first time in her career. This is the biggest reason she will quit after next year. She always said that aslong as I feel that I can still improve I will go on, if I feel I can't make anymore progress I will most likely stop pretty soon.
Like a good red wine
@@draregrevtaam1147 That and the movistar money

Superb performance! Great analisys. Thanks from Brazil.
Thanks, LR. I was waiting for your commentary. Impressive win by Annemiek. It's been great following the TdF Femmes avec Zwift.
Excellent eloquent interview. Women are so much more engaging than men with their uhm and abs and really hard out there answers. Great championship performance.
Women are even able to eloquently walk on water, they're just too modest to mention it.
That was a display of epic perportions!! I loved the whole TDF FOR FEMALES!! NEVER MISSED A STAGE!- But the last 2 days will go down in history as one of the best performance by one rider in history!!
Niewiadoma is such a bad ass. She practically never expects anyone else to pull for her. You go girl! (:
really bad ass, but also really stupid.
Yep. She deserved the podium spot, not 5th place.
This is not great ride... not a supper ride not amazing ride... it is the best of the best... completely out of this world... vamos Annemike and thanks!!
AVV is amazing, was watching in amazement, she is on a complete different level when the road goes up. And over 5w/kg on the climbs wow.
I can do 1.8!
Great coverage, was looking for this.
Holy shit, what a performance, what an interview afterwards. She is a fucking boss. Another great video!i loved your comment, "not much to talk about here she pretty much just rode off"
A 3 minutes gap in this hard of stage is crazy. This woman is a rocket.
What a flex from AVV - "Come see me after you've trained for a few more years" 🤣
This stage did not disappoint. shame that the coverage of it has been terrible
100% agree. All I hear from SBS is the need to promote and support Women’s Cycling. I have been invested in the femmes tour this year and to not even have it televised until 2 hours into each stage is so disappointing. It’s not like SBS snubbed it for other really popular or critical shows either…
@@gettysb19 It not just SBS, the live coverage started at 15:20 local time, so there were just no picture before then.
I feel like they should have at least make sure there were live pictures at the start of the first climb.
From BE ... AvV is just incredible. Cheers for the years of incredible riding **Bow**
3:28 'and in this valley...' hahahah, oh LR, you're the entendrieste!
Van Vleuten didn't even look that tired when she crossed the finish line (contrary to Vollering.) She seems to have superhuman recovery skills; how many times did she have career threatening injuries, only to come back just a few weeks later?
Walk in the park, always "prepared" for the big moment...😉
Incredible performance by AvV, we all knew she could do it but the way how... just wow. Miles ahead. Agree re ELB, should've waited for the group and she probably would've finished with Niewiadoma/Ludwig/Labous. FDJ seemed to be the team who could do most as a team with Brown and Muzic pulling for Cecilie. Real shame Cavalli isn't here anymore, I'd have liked to see them get after it as a team vs al the solo riders. Bit disappointed about Moolman and Garcia not being anywhere near the top so I guess we'll see them tomorrow :).
Annemiek is just too much for her foes, she's absolutely outstanding and the best by far to say the least 🤔😉😎 greetings from Belgium ✌️🇧🇪
There is no reasons to put her under pressure in the earlier stages if she can take 7 minutes to anyone
exactly
Impressive performance by Van Vleuten.
Love AvV! Didn't watch last night and missed it :(
I think SD Works put themselves into the same bucket as Ineos did in this year's Tour. Multiple possible captains/GC leaders on the team, not a ton of cohesion and collaboration, and team management more interested in a stage win while totally resigned to giving away the yellow jersey.
Disagree. In the end there isn't much you can do against someone who takes minutes on a mountain stage. They could have gained maybe, at most, a minute on AVV in the previous stages. Would that be worth it over a stage win. Not in my opinion. AMP had a total off-day. That has nothing to do with strategy. And don't forget DV is only 25 years old, very young still. This was the best they could do.
They have one important thing in common: they did not have the best rider ( though SD Workx probably had more of a chance than Ineos with only one stronger rider and the sickness of that one rider.
@@JonathanvG-wj1ro I want to believe there is something you can do, that is if everyone on SD Worx is firing. Unfortunately they weren't, because AMP was off the back at the start of the stage and Reusser copped a concussion yesterday. If both of those riders were in a state, they could have tried sending Reusser, AMP and Majerus up the road in a break before Petit Ballon and have them sag back to wherever AvV starts putting Vollering into difficulty, and rain attacks. But without the double-threat or who's-the-leader game between AMP and Vollering, I agree they don't have many cards to play against someone so singularly dominant.
INEOS would have never won the yellow jersey. Vingegaard and Pogi were to strong. With or without help Thomas just wasn't strong enough.
You can talk like a pseudo-team manager here on youtube whenever you want, but in the end they really didn't do much wrong, and van Vleuten is just too strong. Over analyzing is worthless
it never hurts to try whenever you have the chance. but this went to everyones expectation, she is just so much better in the mountains. i think its doubtful that her advantage is simply her massive training miles, though its nice of her to say so haha. good stuff really enjoy the interviews as well.
Amazingly captivating. Who says the womens races don't have major mountians. Whew, I was tired just watching this.
This stage is exactly what women's racing is awesome. Great work by van Vleuten and Vollering just barely couldn't hang on.
awesome stuff and the ladies behind Ludwig, Labous, Niewiadoma looked amazing.
Captivating stuff today
I was standing a few meters before the Platzerwasel QOM, unreal with what speed AVV passed with already about a minute gap to Vollering.
How his your coverage SO much better than GCN and others? Really, seriously awesome. I wait anxiously for your post every stage of every race! I finally bought the membership. Thanks!
It's called 'knowledge'
LR and Benji are definitely getting some Christmas cash from me.
@@ohnezuckerohnefettKind of a rhetorical question I guess, but I appreciate the accord. Just kills me to see the number of views/like GCN get in comparison to LR with the rubbish coverage they have!
The AVV training volume thing it's like the marathon training volume statistics, let's not jump to conclusions on cause/effect. Are her extraordinary endurance and recovery ability the result of her high volume? Or can she train more because she has superior endurance and recovery? I don't think we can really know.
Great coverage , thanks
Annemiek, you are an inspiration! Thank you for the masterclass performance, get the yellow jersey home. Wish you all the best, you are a great woman and athlete! 🙏🥇
Wow after the last stage the top three were 30 seconds apart and now the split is more than 5 minutes! Niweadoma has to get the most combatant reward. She brings the second group to the line in every race only to finish behind in the last sprint. don't we all wish Anna van der Breagan was there to make a race of it?
9km @ 8%, twice, then 13km at 6.5%. Dear lord, I'd be dead.....
Here's hoping LR can do a comparison of AVV's watts/kilo to Jonas, Tadej, etc. -- would be really interesting to see, especially since tomorrow's stage is the same last climb.
I rarely comment on RUclips, but I would be really interested in this.
Based on VAM, AVV historically puts out between 5.0 and 5.3W/kg for 30 minutes at highlight-reel performance (like Petit Ballon here). However, her best so far this year is ~5.45W/kg for 25 minutes on Bordala at the Giro (matched more or less by Cavalli). For context, 5.7W/kg for 30 minutes is a fringe Top 10 TdF performance. So the difference between Ving+Pog and Lutsenko is about the same as the difference between Lutsenko and AVV. AVV might be a bit closer given that there is virtually no drafting on domestiques here.
@@cwaller1151 got it, Movistar should have put AVV in the men’s tour instead of Mas ;)
We can answer now after la super Planche des belles filles. Van Vleuten who won the stage climbed it in 23:45, Pogacar-Vingegaard in 19:40. She lost 4 minutes in 7 kilometers. That gives you an idea what separates her from the very best pro riders.
can we talk about zigarts performance??? the whole week she rode behind the peloton and now she’s in the top 10 !!!
Looking really forward to tdf 2023, everyone say Demi is the big fav due to her winning everything first half of the season, but with stage 4 and 7 being super tough and long! we will see if AVV can win big 3 again in her last year in the pro peloton!
I am little bit older so i can train Harder and longer respekt to van Leuten, real pro!
Ludwig number 3 totally out sprinted
2 others Pitt she have lost time previous
🔝❤️🇩🇰
Uttrup Ludwig outsprinted Niewiadoma after sitting on her wheel for the most part of about 60 kilometers, hardly as impressive as you make it sound. In my opinion it was actually Niewiadoma who completely proved that she deserves a place on the podium tomorrow. ( I am a neutral if it comes to these two, so no bias before this race). I understand Ludwig is a sprightly character, it is always fun to see her interviews, but as a racer she is actually not that spectacular. ( and in the stage she won she actually got lucky because she was dropped but then brought back to the first group by Vos and Vollering)
@@rulifaller8474 I'm also rooting for Niewiadoma. She worked really hard.
@@rulifaller8474 Remember TDF so she
More a Chavez type of rider, smart so what😜
@@tonilauge5786 It is smart and I have nothing against her at all, great character to have in the sport. It is good to have different types of riders. I just wanted to give the credit to Niewiadoma because i felt her performance was more impressive.
I think SD was right to go for stagewins. If you dont believe you can beat AVV dont try to beat her you have already lost. As fans we always want teams to take risks but first you have to believe a plan can work. So right call.
@LR Not sure why you think AMP will win tomorrow. Yes, maybe if its a sprint (but she'll lose out the CUL, DV or AVV). But shouldnt she try to stick with DV for as long as possible?
Annemiek van Vleuten is one of the greater female riders that I have seen except Marianne Vos. Her willpower & courage is unbelievable. Even she is at her 40s. What a ride this is.
Today was excellent for the ladies,a.v.v killed it,awesome job! This is how you tdf. Next year 12 stages!
have you watched it? I’d say the opposite, today was not good for future edition of the tdf. It was boring and the deficit between a few pro riders and the rest of the bunch is too great to give any sort of spectacle.
@@alexthiebaut2195 yes haven't missed a day yet, hear you but this is new to them, they are not paid, trained, like the men!yes they are sponsored , many In this field have jobs that pay their bills bc cycling cant! I've followed the tdf since 75 I've seen fatalities, huge wrecks, stage winners further ahead than today's finish.maybe if you can't appreciate the effort put out today you should watch another sport!
My favorite rider ♥
I think all the teams knew that they would not be able to get anywhere near AVV if she was fit, which is why they didn't try to really put time into her in the early stages. Why bother killing yourself to get 30 seconds when she puts 5 minutes into you? Ironically, if she was in that bad a shape on Tuesday and Wednesday, attacking her might have caused her to quit, but they let her recover out of fear.
I think they could gain much more time than 30 seconds if they tried. Missed opportunity. Amateur riders. Amateur team tactics
Wow this girl is so impressive she destroyed them all!💪💪39 years and stronger than ever👍👍👍😃
Elisa Longo borghini we always love you
It comes to my attention that Niewiadoma always rides with an open jacket even on the flat. The reason that this is notable to me is because of the enormous aerodynamic losses.
The losses don't seem to be that enourmous given that she is in 5th place in the GC
3rd place in GC
@@Friek555 yeah, she's still performing strongly but in terms of wattage when pulling in the wind it makes a decent difference
IMHO she can't close it while riding and made the mistake of opening it fully on the climb
I think that the Canyon/SRAM kit is just warmer than the other's. Whenever there's a shot of someone with and unzipped jersey it's always someone on their team
I wonder how someone like Anna van der Breggen (with form from a couple years ago) would have fared against AVV on a stage like today?
I think it would have been close. Remember their battle in La Course 2018?
3:28,,, Sorry, had to pause where LR paused.
No worse feeling than suffering up a climb and the wheel your holding just leaves you for dead. Huge effort
i wonder if those massive training km's actually make a difference for her or whether she is just so much better it would not matter either way. we shall never know... obviously training more does not always equal anything. that is my hope anyway, because i train less than an hour on average per day and i am still hoping to win triathlons like i did 10 years ago when i was doing 2.5 hours per day. quality over quantity. 2nd overall in the asheville triathlon a couple of weeks ago, so there is some hope!
Any news on what happened to Ashleigh M-P? Can't believe she just had a 'bad day' and lost more than 10 min on GC? Unless she had a convo with DV agreeing that Demi would go for GC and Ashleigh would go for the stage win tomorrow? I wonder...
Best climbing today
This is for the Dutch like the Raleigh mountain dominancy in the past: Rooks & Theunissen
Panasonic
Fyi, Silvia Persico got relegated in Stage 6 (due to her crazy swing in the sprints that almost took out Confalonieri).
Persico always rides a bit dangerous from left to right, you have to be careful riding nexto her
Where is the video about San sebastian
Crazy that van Vleuten is the only one who has the same training kms like the average pro in men's peloton.
How many times has he said van vlueten.
"I was so sick..." but rode like a fully-stoked freight train today.🙄
She'd put 5 minutes into Vollering, had she not been sick earlier this week! She's an alien!
Looks like Bernard Hinault world championship in the alps.
Those were the days,
Dutch Annemiek van Vleuten is one of the best cyclists of all time: Olympics gold, world champignon, olympic gold TT, Giro Rosa… the list is endless!
No Olympic road race goal, we all know what happened
@@afficiopedal4325 the dutch team refuse to help her to win.The Austrain cyclist that beat her was an amatuer
@@dieseltree567 Yes, but other than that she won everything and is unbeatable in the mountain stages. There are literally no women out there that even come close in the mountainstages. Marianne Vos is the greatest in my opinion. But she's more a sprinter. So i do not know why some one always has to point out what happend at the Olympics? That was a one time slip and you act like she isn't worth shit? What's that about? Probably just sour because the Dutch seem to win almost everything else huh!
@@jeffw9465 you need to read my post again. What l am saying is if the Dutch team was coopetative on the Olympic women road race, there was no way an amatuer cyclist can beat her on that day. On the contrary, l felf that AVV should also win the 2016 Olympic road race Gold. She is greater than the " boss" Vos simply because AVV always win races single handledly.Taking things in her own hand. Rather that depend on teamates to made things happen.
@@jeffw9465 No, it is in some sense not a one time slip. The tactics of Dutch riders were often rather poor. Stupid attacks, poor collaboration, many crashes due to bad positioning. They just trust in their superiority which often realizes at the finish line and without doubt they have a lot of great athletes and Anemiek VanVleuten is outstanding among them. However, with a broader field of top riders they would lose more often and they will in the future, if they do not learn some lessons. But it is good for the sport as it allows at least some surprises, otherwise it would become boring.
6:36 "Le Petit Ballon".
Everyone else calls it Le Grand Ballon, but for her, it was apparently small.
They are two separate climbs. The Petit Ballon was earlier in the stage.
Petit ballon is north and a little bit west of grand ballon iirc
She gets Le Grand Ballon when her boyfriend gives it to her. We won't see that. But maybe YOU want to.😂
No team but Movistar should've raced for Yellow this Tour. Ride either for second or for stages/green.
and SD Worx should maybe capitalize on Polka-dot and 2nd? I think Vollering could capture max (or at least outpace) points on the first cat 1 and then relax keeping a podium spot and not giving away polka dot.
Unfortunately I think they will race for race leader and give away polkadot.
That being said, if anything happens and van vleuten's legs fail, Vollering is in line for yellow.
So it is a hard line to toe for SD Worx. I bet they will go for yellow just in case there is a bonk with van vleuten
AVV: when these little sh*ts grow up a bit they can train attack on big climbs like me 😂
Could AVV drop someone like Fabio Jakobson in the mountains?
Yes
Yeah, when the Tv coverage started and I saw Longo Borghini in that position between the head of the race and the Newiadoma group I instantly felt like it wasn't the right decision
yep, between yesterday’s wrond turn and today’s riding, it’s safe to day Longo Borgini isn’t the brightest tool
Are we also getting a recap of San Sebastian classic? Another great performance by Remco Evenepoel, who must have felt he had to prove a point after all the praise WvA got during the past Tour de France in the Belgium press.
Lol. What point is that?
I just realized, where men have peak testosterone levels between 16 and 36 years (roughly speaking), which defines fitness due to recovery, this is not/much less the case for women.
So women might be able to perform much longer at a high level compared to men, strictly looking at testosterone. There are of course many other factors at play.
she said it herself, "so sick"
AvV does a Coppi !!!
Unfortunately the other teams should have ganged up on her when she was sick especially in a crosswind stage but I guess they were never going to put 10 minutes into her on a ' flat 'stage , Cos she is going to win by 5 minute s Tomorrow by the looks of things ????
Could van der Breggen have given van Vlueten a run for her money? I really want to see her on the start line next year, looking like Thor from Endgame, and still crushing everyone.
AvdB retired too soon!
@@CharlotteRaine agreed!
Personally I do not look forward to see her on the start next year at all, will be same result as this year; her being way too strong for the others. Personally I enjoy more excitement, so without her I expect a more interesting Tour
This reminded me of performances by a 7 time tdf champ. Annemiek claims she trains harder than the whole peloton…sounds familiar…ole’ Lance would be proud.
Kasia apparently did the last climb quicker than AVV. Nevertheless, phenomenal from AVV.
So? She was in a group where other ladies work with her... The final gap in the stage - more than 5 minutes, that's what really matters.
Niewiadoma certainly gained a few new fans today 😂😂😂😍
❤fenomenale. Ci.mancerai...tanto
To all cyclists: Please talk this much on your interviews. Very nice.
Here comes the weapon again, going to win the tour
If they gave the women a real GT do you think anyone would be able to put a big attack in like this and last the 3 weeks?
So happy when Annemiek gapped Vollering, who was content to ride behind and never once helped with the pace, except when she sprinted past Annemiek for some points. Not a fan of riders who don't share the effort.
Those are just fair tactics
It's sensible though, no one there can beat AVV in a fair 1v1, so sharing the effort with her would be GC suicide.
@@petertroep9085 Perhaps, but I'm still not a fan of them.
@@nomdaploom that is a valid opinion. In my opinion those tactics make the sport fun. But my opinion is not more valid then yours.
Why on earth would she pull for a rider who can put 3+ minutes into her on the final climb
VIVE LES FEMMES!
Annemiek is like old wine(no disrespect, she looks great, just one of oldest in female cycling and see at TdF,Giro for men, older ones find hard to keep with young ones, somethimes, that i mean..)..Get better with every race..even,she don't start the tour in best shape, somehow hide his sickness for days to be herself for last 2 stages.. amazing job..just i hate how Marta Cavalli left(not her fault!)and Mavi Garcia was injured or something and hadn't left many great climbers..
Annemiek Van Vleuten....the female Terminator on wheels. She will wear everybody out first before she even gets started!
Abra sido casualidad pero no la he visto beber agua del bidón de agua vertical en todo su escapada
Greaaat
Amazing performance. Especially to that ill for 2 days. (Would have put most people out of the race) And then just blow away the rest of the field. Im almost disappointed the rest are that far behind. Could have done with another week.
It seems to me the only way to possibly stop her is to have a really strong climbing squad, let her attack and then just do a train tactic trying to keep her close, but not too close. Not close enough and it obviously doesn't matter since you'll be riding for 2nd anyway, but too close and she'll just drop bacl and come sit in the wheel and blow it up on the final climb. Essentially you want her to tire herself out while your own leader saves herself in the wheels.
Ofcourse this is easily said and not so easily done, considering Vollering was in her wheel the whole time and still couldn't follow. But it seems the only possible tactic in the mountains against someone like AVV imo.
Couldn't help noticing the 'two little ballons' of Niwiadoma🤪
grow up
Probably you know a lot about cycling but can there be a less boring voice on the videos?
How did SD Works only put Vollering up with AvV? AMP could not hang up there so they could one-two? Maybe she could not but they really just gave up on the yellow jersey. Not to take anything away from AvV, she is amazing but she did not really even look significantly challenged.
Wow, you really seem to have no idea what you are talking about. This was just full gas from the start by the by far strongest rider, no one else can follow. Vollering tried and did a great job, but the only person whocould follow Van Vleuten in recent years was in Vollerings team car.
@@rulifaller8474 Wow in classic RUclips wisdom fashion any question is met by scorn and derision. Congratulations for assuming the rest of the field was merely patsies. I guess there was no point to this race at all. The men's race was also pointless because it is obvious that TP is the strongest racer in the men's peloton.
Vosges dropped Vos? Wow
Shit yea Van Vluten is a boss
Why didn't anyone cover what happened to Vos? It's like she didn't exist in this stage. I know AVV's performance was amazing but covering what happened with the yellow jersey is important.
I don't think tactically that AvV drove that well. However when you are as strong as her compared to the rest it doesn't matter. If other riders improve enough in the mountains and get closer to AvV's level then she could definitely lose races with this kind of tactic. But no matter what it is spectacular to see an attack from so far out.
She has the experience that she wins whenever she does it like this, so I would say it is tactically very smart of her not to change the winning formula.
The essence is that her strength is that she can cope better than anyone with hard races. Her team is not great, so it is up to her to make the race hard. Which is exactly what she did. Because she is so much stringer than the teammates of the other GC riders, she essentially makes it into a woman to woman fight.
@@rulifaller8474 Just because something works doesn't mean that it is good tactics. If the tactics rely on you being SO MUCH better than your competition then that isn't good tactics IMO.
@@Je-Razor If something always works, it is by definition good tactics IMO. If it only works some times but not others, you would be right, then she should think of changing.
The alternative that you would call good tactics is probably let the team control the race and then strike at the last climb. But her team is not strong enough to control, and the last climb on Saturday was quite easy so it would have been difficult to take a lot of time. So the result would definitely not have been as good as it was now. No other tactics would have seen her win 3,5 minutes to nr 3 and more than 5 minutes to the rest of the field.
What is the right tactics is not set in stone, it depends on the parcours and the opposition. With this parcours and opposition these were the perfect tactics.
5.25W/Kg... WOW!
yeah, that one caught me by surprice as well. Dayum!
Awesome race. Wish we had women races like this in the US.
Van Vleuten is the best
