Brioni also has three button suits where the top button is basically hidden under the roll of the lapel. Exactly as you described. Gives the jacket longer fluent lines and definitely more 'suited' for tall men. The lapel has a deliberate half roll, covering the button. So unless you pay real close attention the button is not noticeable but the jacket appears more proportionate. I always wondered why I was drawn to that look but never knew exactly why? It was only with my Brioni suits. You explained it very well. Thank you sir.
It originated as a garment for gentleman to wear while "sporting," i.e. hunting, riding, hiking, and so on in the countryside. For a long time it wasn't appropriate to wear except as part of a well-to-do gentleman's outdoorswear. It's since evolved into a more cosmopolitan garment, but the name stuck around.
The casual counterpart to the suit jacket is the sport coat made to go with blue jeans, chinos, or corduroy pants. Now most people are wearing ultra casual to the office especially environmentally harmful fast fashion. I wish we took a step back and go back to business casual for the office or in some cases business professional. Like business casual for MEP engineers and Architects, and business professional for salespeople.
@@TerryKashat I agree. Also, 6 button double-breasted might look even better than a 3-button. I'm 6 foot 0 and based on my build a 6x2 double-breasted would look the best on me specifically the ones where the top row of buttons are spaced further apart from the bottom and middle rows of buttons.
Sir, first of all you are an eloquent orator and thank you for your profound and objective video! I have a question which you might find interesting. I own a couple of 3 button suits. You mentioned the rare but uniquely classy 2 and Half button suit! Is there any way to steam press my 3 button suits from the top button, folding in half the top button hole so that they look like a 2 and half button suit? So in essence the top button is half covered by the lapel which is now lower than before and I then button the second button which is now the 'first' button. Thank you.
Hello Antonio... I wish to consult your opinion on three button suit jackets. I still love them but heard some other style advisers, like Aaron Marino, say they are about of fashion and need to be gotten rid of. As I think you are the most authoritative person to ask to, I would very much appreciate your opinion and it would be wonderful if you addressed this issue on a video, to settle this matter which I think may be a question many men are having and getting confusing and opposite answers and views about. Thanks and greetings from Costa Rica... The Bernal Garro
This was really helpful, you did awonderful job, and explaining the history helped a whole heck of a lot for us younger guys who see a suit as simply a sort of formal piece; now, with the context you gave, I can understand more about the variations of the suits and why they exist and how others may perceive the characteristics of each style. You = MVP
I’m getting a custom 3 button made from now on. I have a sense that taller men anyone just shy of 6 ft and above - simply look better in a 3 button. It’s more functional.
I beg to differ, you can get higher grade materials fm older blazers like hop sack, linen, cupro, virgin wool and cashmere/silk, which a tailor can bespoke it or unstructure it to your frame. Then, you can add modern pieces/shoes to it. Cary Grant rocked a gray 3button with ascot in To Catch a Thief
If you have an athletic physique with wide shoulders and a V taper, I find a two button style works best to flatter your lines. For this reason I never like wearing my Service Alphas.
Your voice sounds great in this video. Three button for me. Im English so it is traditional and its cold here so with a 2 button jacket the large V exposes to much (I'm essentially only wearing a shirt for the majority of my chest). The tie covers more of the V with a three button too. Nice videos by the way
Difficult to be informative on these topics without coming across as being condescending or pretentious ... Your presentations are neither! I am liking your style :-)
I have a Hugo Boss Black Suit ROSSELLINI/MOVIE size 46R. I have the jacket but I need the pants. How can I just search fro the pants, I am asking using the label on the jacket how will I find the pants for the suit. Thanks
his video recorder must reverse the image it captures! pocket on the what seems to be the right side and his wedding band on what seems to be his right hand as well. wonder why it does that lol. still a fantastic video and as a 20 year old beginning to build his wardrobe this channel is instrumental! keep em coming please.
Haven't even got half way through but just wanted to let you know you gained another subscriber, very very well spoken and professional. I'd definitely take tips from this guy.
Given that I am taller, have a broader chest and a bit of a belly, I prefer three-button jackets because they balance with my height and bring attention to my chest rather than my belly. I also prefer 6x2 and 6x3 double-breasted jackets over 6x1 for the same reason.
Hi Antonino, I was wondering what the function is of the 2.5 button jacket? I didn’t understand that from this video? I work as a banker, and wear 2,3, and double breast suits. I favour my 3 button suits because it suits my barrel chest. I was wondering if i should consider wearing the 2.5 button jacket?
2 1/2 roll button is the best! :) Good pointers about 2 button down jacket on a short person, i dont think someone could pull a 3 button down while being short
Hi Antonio. I just watch this video and I'm a fan already. I'm 1.87m (6ft 15⁄8in) and work 95% of the time sited (developer). What should be your advise for a suit? 2 or 3 buttons? (I'm slim (little belly but doesn't show hehehe)). I was thinking in 2 buttons, but with the comment about the height I'm not sure anymore.
Hi , I bought a 3 button blazer/sport coat . I didnt notice it , and it was quite cheap ( about 35 US dollars) . Now im interested if it would be possible to turn (by tailor) it into 2 button . I like how coats with two buttons give me a triangular shape . I would also like to know that because of future blazers/sport coats/suits . There are many old tailors who are experienced and very cheap because this craft is dying out . P.S. its made by Esprit . Pls answer

I'm watching video after video. I need some mega help and these videos are the best ones on the web. I really mean that. I really appreciate this help.
I think the 2 button is always better. I mean, if you are short and thick you are gonna look petite in a 3 button suit. And if you are already tall and lean, why would you make yourself look smaller?? You better keep or even enhance that look.
I bought a two button suit, it’s OK. Not again. When I look a 2 button, the jacket is shorter by a lot. I think 3 button looks more finished, covers more doesn’t look so short changed more coverage appears richer. In my opinion they came out with two button to force men to buy suits and “appear” updated….just a way to drive sales. Two button looks stunted. A marketing ploy.
2 Button 3 Button you always leave the bottom one unbuttoned. I laugh every time I see a guy in a 3 button Macy suit with all 3 buttoned up, walking around thinking hes looking all fly.

Real Men Real Style I need help sir!!!! What about 3 button 3 piece suit??/? Can I wear a suit vest with a 3 button suit???
You are welcome!
Well, remember style is only a small part of being a man. What's really important is having a 4X4 pickup with huge tires. :)
And lots of costs. My HS teacher said all vehicles wind up in the junk yard so I’ll never have a truck, too much money.
I was gonna lean toward a 3 button because it was more traditional but seeing that I am very short, watching this video sold me to the 2 button.

The 3 buttoned suit I feel is more classic and old fashion than the 2 buttoned

You're right - I should have spent 20 minutes explaining it! Drat!

Yes!

Hey, I am a lean and athletic, but also short. 5'7". So... 3 button or 1 button?
Should the buttons on the sleeves match the buttons on the center?
what kind of Lapel you got on Jacket, Asymmetric Look
If you have an athletic physique with wide shoulders and a V taper, I find a two button style works best to flatter your lines. For this reason I never like wearing my Service Alphas.
+upgrayddable Exactly - the 2-button suit is a very flattering choice for any man looking to maximize the illusion of height :)

i like how the pocket square is on the other side

@Real Men Real Style Antonio, thanks for the info. Question: what looks more elegant on a leather jacket/blazer? 2 or 3 button? Thanks

The best reason for me is you don't need the inner waistcoat because the jacket cover that area
I found one today - Barutti
How come Antonio has a different voice in this video compared to more recent ones?
+Roger Gelwicks Which ones?
The human voice changes slightly every day.
That's why vocalists are recommended to have the recording for an entire song done within a day.
Cause he flipped the image horizontally...(look at the ring on his finger)
