Losing Hyman would *suck* for the Leafs. The guy has the most heart on the team
Someone else already commented it but... Nightmare scenario, Zach Hyman teaming up with Connor Brown et al in Ottawa... You know damn well they're ending a leafs playoff run if they ever meet in the playoffs...
Zach needs to follow the money at this point in his career.
Either way people are going to go off...I hope he does what he needs to do for himself because that's all that matters
Hyman on a big deal might become the next clarkson. And I say that as a fan of both.
Rielly is more likely to become another Subban.
Lol detroit signs him two years 4 million holds half traded to leafs for a 1st and a second.
@@martytu20 tbh the 1st 4 years of Subban's contract were pretty legit
@@martingiguere1202 Subban also donated a ton of that Salary to the Montreal community.
The continuing, fundamental misunderstanding of the "Trade Nylander" argument is hilarious. It's much funnier *not* to explain it. 🤣
If Hyman takes a discount give him the C
That's the definition of insanity believing the Leafs are close to a cup with the same guys.
They changed the entire roster so shut it ok.
Dangle holding his head in his hand says it all about the Hyman situation
Let Freddy walk and sign Hyman. He is literally the only guy in the roster that shows up every single game! He’s worth every penny, give him 5-5.5 mil and call it a day! This team and fan base need him in the line up.
But he'll still make more than that if he tests free agency. Look, a hockey player has to make as much as they can and save it because there's a lot of years left when a career can end at any moment due to injury and at best he only lasts as an NHL regular a few more years anyway.
Zach Hyman’s not a goal scorer or a play maker. He’s a hockey player. Big loss for the Leafs if he leaves.
A grinder
@@jimmysox2260 No, more like a 2 way forward
He has too much offensive upside to be a grinder lol
Some of us have brought up the Hyman issues long ago, no one worried then
The idea that a team would keep a 60% player like Nylander and let a 100% player like Hyman walk doesn't add up. I can envision the team moving forward without Nylander but not without Zack. Use Nylander as trade bait and consider themselves lucky to have a player the calibre and character of Zack Hyman.
Sooooo, no Hyman, and aging Spezza in a division with Tampa, Boston, Montreal, Florida, and improving Sens, Sabres and Wings teams. Could be a rough year for the Leafs to be honest.
I totally AGREE.....The NORTH division wasn't a real division.....The LEAFS ARE A 5PLACE TEAM IN THE REAL DIVISIONS......
Don’t forget Carolina.
The fact you say “improving” Detroit and sabres shows you know very little about hockey! Both teams will be bottom of standings next year, sabres especially like wtf are you talking about?
@@frankcorazza6001 good think you’re opinion literally means nothing! BUT HEY I CAN TYPE IN CAPS TO lol grow up
Paying marner and Mathews too much, this team will never be deep enough
Hymans best years are behind him from my pov. A guy who plays the way he plays falls off a cliff fast
Most definitely not, he’s gotten better every year and was on track for a career season
@@orzif7049 pal he is on his contract year he will be 30 has knee problems he won't be getting better
@@orzif7049 injuries man, look at Wayne Simmonds, a shadow of his former self.
Umm... want to retract that yet?
Any team that gives Hyman 5+ over long term, will regret that contract down the road. I love how Hyman plays, but he'll never live up to a big contract like that. Right now, he's home, playing for his childhood team, gets top line minutes with Matthews and Marner, has local endorsement deals, is a fan favourite, and so on. The Leafs will offer him a very decent contract to keep all of that intact. If its only about money for him, then he's as good as gone. And in a couple of years, because of his contract, he'll bounce around from team to team for the rest of his career, until he fades away. I hope he stays, but whatever.
Hyman works hard in the season and he did awesome in the playoffs! He is an all around player and he deserves a raise! He actually EARNED his worth. Unlike Marner, Hyman is worth 6million for 6 yrs or 7yrs. Dubas needs to hold onto hyman. I hope they figure this out.
Well he didnt do amazing this playoffs but he has a skill set that would thrive in the playoffs
@Colin Thisaname so its Hyman's fault the top 3 couldn't perform, the guy is paid like a 3rd liner so you're crazy if you think hes underperforming
@Colin Thisaname I sort of agree. He didn't excel in the playoffs, and did as you suggested. I don't think he needs a pay cut, but definitely not a raise.
@Colin Thisaname Ha, true. I love Hyman, but he's not the Six Million Dollar Man, as some suggest. If it makes financial sense, do it. Extend him. Tweaking Marner to reach his potential should be more of a focus. His best years are ahead of him, if he'd clean out his ears a bit. I've never seen a hockey player look so afraid before. His playoff performance was mind-bogglingly frustrating.
Paying over 4.5 for hyman is foolish
When Zach gets hurt do people say that the Leafs have a broken Hyman?
yes
Dude... really? How long did that one take to come up with? Jesus....
@@bobabooey4537 I got to bed around 2 - 2:30.
Gretzky broke Toronto’s Hyman almost 30 years ago, they’ve just been getting fucked by everyone every since

Dumb comment
@@TheEliteOne333 but where are the playoff wins?
What is the big market loss for Hyman? Being on a team like Toronto also means other forms of income from signing bonuses to Commercials. Smaller markets won't have the same opportunities.
Dermott, Engvall, and Kerfoot are gone. Hyman stays put at 5-6 million top heavy contract with some nice added signing bonuses.
No chance
Hyman for leafs 4.2 4.7 . But if Oilers Ottawa Winnipeg or team south of the boarder offer 6 6.5 hard to turn down . He may not be the swiftest on skated but he is better over all than 16 ..
Zach Hyman is the last bit of heart and soul of this franchise
Campbell is the other that has heart too imo.
Stan Bowman is going to make a hard push for Hyman, so I look forward to watching Hyman play in the Indian Head.. I mean Hyman will be given a much bigger or more prominent role with the Blackhawks, and some space so I just cant see Hyman turning down the opportunity - especially when the Hawks have the cap space to sign Hyman at market value. I mean If Hyman were to stay in Toronto he would have to take a significant cut in pay to make it work - and that is something Toronto is in no position to be asking a player to do. Sure, if Toronto went on a playoff run it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibilities guys like Hyman would take a cut BUT when you get bounced in the first round there is just no way any player would be willing to make a sacrifice for the Leafs..
Also, perhaps the Leafs would be in a better position if they DIDN'T sign Tavares? signing Tavares was both stupid and redundant - not only that but it's hilarious watching Leafs homers attempt to defend and even justify the signing... I mean I lost a ton of respect for everyone involved with the Tavares signing. That had disaster written all over it yet that message went ignored..
Idk where Hyman would fit with the hawks, maybe 3rd line LW (Debrincat & Kane, Kubalik & Toews) or 2nd line RW. He would definitely get pp and pk time but 5 on 5, he'd have to play on his offwing to slot into the top 6
@Dave White I agree and said the same thing even before the Leafs signed Tavares. It was a real cocky signing that was going to hurt the team in the end.
The Leafs are constrained by the same salary cap issues as every other team but they can offer other things that you can't get in, say, Dallas. Hyman stays home, would 100% end up working in the organization, would be able to have partnerships throughout the GTA, etc etc. They just have to find a way to legally incentivize all those intangibles for him. Hyman needs to be here and win a cup!!!
To be in Toronto AND win a cup... interesting concept.
@@gropplervideos5979 A man can dream, can't he? Sigh
@@NasonJPR 😆 Yep
maybe if they want him as team mate then they take a cut in their pay to pay him
I agree with you.. Hyman is a heart and soul.. This is his last big contract,, he deserves every penny.. He does more then marner
Chris is right. Why should anyone who’s out performed their contract accept a pay cut?
Dubas given Hyman 10 million by 7 years. Book it!
I like how you insulted Dubas, his track record does not inspire much confidence that is for sure.
Some team like Edmonton is gonna offer Hyman something like 6.5x6
And they should be welcome to have him and I would wish him the best of luck. The leafs should trade the core 4 to the Oilers as well and retain half the salary with the Canadiens doing same with their best players. Maybe then, we would finally see a Canadian team getting the cup. And then they can take turn each year.
Playing beside McDavid, he may be worth every penny of that contract. Look what they got out of Barrie
Hyman with McDavid would be insane, Hyman can easily be a 60-70 point player with him.
what are you smoking lol
@@STONE69_ it happens every year weather Hes worth it or not someone will pay him something close to that
Only way I see hyman working with the leafs is a short term deal. Maybe 3 years. Which I know he wont do.
I think Reillys time is up in Toronto. I can see kerfoot gone with expansion or trade. Anderson is gone. Leafs need to keep the core and make other big changes. Time for heads to roll
.
He needs to follow the money, this is his opportunity at a big contract.
No player should take a home team discount unless in the final year or two of there career similar to a Jason Spezza. Leafs can not afford Hyman in there current approach to roster construction. Sadly we need more Hymans on the team and less perimeter players like Willie. But oh, Willie had a great playoff ...... or was it Galchenyuk?
One of Toronto’s problem is corporate seats. The team doesn’t have a relationship with the fans like other teams do. Playoff seating shouldn’t allow corporate seating. Just a thought
If I was Hyman I would consider a team friendly deal if they would compensate the lower salary with a solid no movement and clause where if Leafs win the cup they build a statue of me holding the cup in front of the arena.
5x5 would be team friendly.
At one point in time he scored 23 points in 22 games, hes worth like 7 mil there is no way they can get him unless they sign he to a long term 10 year 3 mil contract
Can’t do 10 years, Jimmy
@@matthewcassar881 I know and that's the thing about long term contracts they're a risk it's either the player stop being able to perform half way through the contract because of age and your stuck with a old hag or you have a killer deal for 10 years locked up
I would sacrifice Morgan to keep Zack. Zack is the only heart and soul player left who plays hard, every game- a true hockey player. Leafs have a couple d men in the system who can just plug the loss for the immediate situation and coaching can focus more on defensive coverage to mitigate the damage.
Marners contract gone would be cool. Why lose Reilly? He shoulda been captain.
Just make sure get back fair value in trade via blue chip and roster players. Somebody would want a elite winger.
Youre nuts lol.
@@willsk7068 No... the Leafs gave the C to the right player. Close.... but no.
@@bobabooey4537 yes I am.
Agreed. Rielly needs to move on.
Looks like the Leafs will become better friends with Galchenyuk, all while saying goodbye to Hyman.
No real difference in the way things are done, compared to the Ballard days. The players are all saying it under their breath.
By the look of his press conference/interview, seems very like he ain't returning to Toronto. Big loss if that's the case.
he sounded like Tavares when he was about to leave NYI lol
Hyman is pretty much their best all around player & workhorse..
Matthew's and Marner Can give Some of their Money
People are over rating this player 3.5 mil for 3 years or see ya
@@STONE69_ nah man. Hyman was on pace for 30 goals and 50 points in the last 2 seasons. That’s worth 5 mill ish.
Hyman would be crazy to stay in Toronto if he could get a better contract, but saying that, the money might not be everything. To some, but not all..................👀😎👍
Don't worry, he's in the 'to some' camp, that is , he isn't stupid.
I've said it a thousand times, and I'll say it a thousand more. If anyone deserves a Matthews/Marner like contract based on pure work ethic alone, it's Zach Hyman. It absolutely kills me to see that he could very well become a cap casualty when he has spent the last four years being an absolute workhorse and becoming the most complete player on the team not named William Nylander. I get there's only so much you can do with cap limitations and such, but Zach Hyman should not be the sacrificial lamb.
Do you honestly believe he deserves Matner or Matthew's money?
@@domenici5558 he deserves 6 but will have to take something around 4.5 - 5
Tale a look at the players who earn 6 per year and you'll quickly realize that Hyman doesn't deserve that much.
@@domenici5558 take a look at the players on the leafs who make 11 million. they dont deserve that much

CJ dropped the ball. Most important need is a 3rd line Centre that can get even a little production and a lot up on the 2nd line if needed. Like a Paul Stantsny type guy IMO
The Leafs have to commit to team building not talent acquisitions
make me think of gallager in montreal. at some point an organisation must take a "risky" contract with players drafted and representing the spirit of the team. it is called respect.
If Zach can get Gallagher money, good for him, but it won't be with the Leafs as the Leafs have more important needs to fill with that kind of money.
Hypothetically speaking,
If the Leafs decided to bring back Andersen (a great backup for Jack next year that needs to get his career back on track) on a 1 year "show me" contract, unfortunately lose Kerfoot to Seattle and re-sign Hyman:
2021
Andersen - $5m
Hyman - $2.25m
Kerfoot - $3.5m
- Total - $10.75m
2022 (Give Freddy Hyman's number)
Andersen - $2.25m x 1
Hyman - $5.5m x 6 or 7
- Total - $7.75m ($3m saved)
Factor in Simmonds ($1.5m) gone and get Galchenyuk to take a cut to prove himself for an entire season, you have some extra money to shop proper depth without having to trade Reilly.
Anderson laughs at Dubas and tells the leafs to get bent, why would he do that.
@@richardclay9669 because his season was awful. No doubt, he may get an offer elsewhere, but he knows the system, the team and right now his stock is at an all time low right now. Play for a year at that rate and he has an opportunity to cash in bigger next year in free agency
And the team is worse than last year, why would Dubas do that? The contract value you assigned for Hyman is borderline insane. No way Freddy tasks a cut like that. When people are in a prove me contract, they need to be allowed to play, not be a back up and play mostly on the bench.
@@khuo0219 Just proposing an idea. Obviously, he's taking a haircut anywhere he goes with where his stock is. Aside from Seattle or maybe New Jersey or Pittsburgh (the way Jarry played in the playoffs), I don't think many takers for him at a decent price tag. I don't think it's that insane to play 30-40% of the games, play them well and enter free agency with a chance at a better pay day next year
Hyman will walk. Count on it.
One way around the salary cap with zac is that we leaf as fans promise to buy his children’s books. If he stays for less than 5m aav I will personally buy one for all the kids in my family (11)

Clearly not
Like he missed on that golden feed from Marner in game 7. A killer would have gone five hole or lifted the puck on the forehand. Or that time he missed the empty net in game 4. I am not hating on hyman but these guys are pretending he is Ryan O'Reilly or something

Let him go we have to pay Marner
He should walk if he wants to win anything.. leafs are just going around in circles
Sign Hyman, move Marner for high draft picks. Free up cap Space: sign a D. And a steady 2 way forward.... then wait for a Matt Tkachuk , Marchand, tom Wilson type of player. This team needs that kind of diversity!
Why don't the six Canadian teams sign the best players for way above the market price for 6 years, then you trade all of them to a second team, retaining 50% to fit under the cap, then trade them to a third team retaining 25%, then to a forth team and so on. You would have a monster team for a fraction of the cap hit. The 6 teams working together would be unstoppable. And since the other 5 teams would suck each year, you would get the best draft picks as well.
