Alot of dump and chase and zone possession, hard to be shifty with the puck when your feet aren't moving, so opposing teams started to catch on later on in the year to just smother Marner when he got the puck in the offensive zone instead of trying to take away his pass lanes, made it real tough for him to dish it to anyone or make a move to give himself space when everyone was standing still.

    1) Zach Hyman is logically not going to be part of this team next year.
    2) I used to care about leafs news, even minor pieces like this, but like the rest of these 3 hosts, I just don't care anymore.
    Haven't left the first round in 17 years, we laugh at the Arizona Coyotes but we're equally as much of a joke. The fans have turned on this team, every Leafs fan I know agrees.
    Good luck leafs, but I lost hope and faith. All the best, I hope it works out for you, but I can't emotionally invest myself in such a tire fire expecting a good result. Prove it, then we'll talk.
    Adios from a diehard Leafs fan.

    Put ur money on Detroit..Type of player Yzerman loves who BTW has 48 million in cap space. And he has lots of draft capital to make lots of deals..he has five of the top 52 picks..2 first round and three second round picks. This is Yzerman's summer to wheel and deal and put a big scare in the Leafs.

    Why can't Hyman be part of the "Core 4"? Seriously. Two years in a row he's projected at 30 goal pace. He kills penalties. Digs out pucks. Bleeds blue. Etc. And he could be had for 5 (or 5.5). And either Willy or Marner could be traded. In which case: not only do we get to keep Hyman and earn extra cap room, but we also get the assets from the trade. Letting Hyman walk (while keeping intact a "core 4" that's proven time-and-again that they can't win) is simply inexcusable. For instance: trade Marner (and his 11 million) for Seth Jones. Extend Jones at 8.5 million. Keep Hyman with Matthews and find them a decent playmaking winger on the free agent market (with the money saved from Freddie's departure). The idea of a "core 4" is to have two pairs of forwards that can drive a line together. Hyman and Matthews vs Marner and Matthews should be the conversation here. In which case: the cap flexibility of the former GREATLY OUTWEIGHS the extra (regular season) points of the latter.

      keep nylander, resign hyman for 5M and shop marner and tavares for an elite defenseman

    • @flyingja
      @flyingja 3 года назад

      @@vinceslapchopper well, unfortunately, Tavares has a no-movement clause. And nobody would take his deal anyways, given his age. Willy is interesting, because, as his supporters constantly point out "he has a good deal!" Which means: yes, other teams would happily trade significant assets for him. Resigning Hyman at 5.5 and trading Nylander gives you 1.5 million in extra cap space, and you could target a true third line C in the trade, along with a first & second round pick. That C would be making more than 1.5mil, however, so the net cost is Nylander + 3mil (i.e. let's presume this is basically a better version of Kerfoot) for Hyman, a 3C, a first and a second. Hyman rides with Tavares, maybe on the right-side, with Robertson on the left. And you keep Matthews and Marner together. Again, by incorporating Hyman in the Core 4, you suddenly have so much more flexibility to construct a legitimate roster that can win.

    Hyman needs to go to a team where he has a chance to go farther in the playoffs not with these losers. They aren't tough enough or have the will to win for the fans and next season will be a big letdown when they have to play all the other teams in they league in the regular season. Hopefully then will they fire Dubas and get a real GM who doesn't make trades using a spreadsheet and statistics from his laptop. Finding good players that know how to win is more than looking at stats.
