"Are you sure you're ready to give up your alchemy, to becoming a mere human?"
"What are you talking about. That's all I've ever been. Just a mere human who couldn't save a little girl."
+sims2lovealot That scene made me realize how big of an influence nina's death had on them
+LordDiddyDot
Yea apparently in the 2003 version their influence is much more developed. But cus it was already done they decided to speed fmab up a bit.
I think that one instance with Nina changed the entire perspective of Edward and even for the viewers. There are very few shows overall which have such deep emotional impact.....When I watched the show for the 1st time that particular scene with Nina left me profoundly sad.
Not even with Alchemy...
Really Celty.
One does not simply finish watching the series without coming here to listen to this 100 times in a row
Correct
As someone who only watched this for the first time last month I can confirm, this song is glorious enough to deserve being called the main theme

Remember that this OST played in two separate scenes:
1) When the Elric brothers almost lost everything
2) When they gained everything back
It is the Law of Equivalent exchange in pure musical form.
Churlz I honestly never realized that.
FMA is truly a one-of-a-kind anime that no other anime can match up to. Everything about this show was masterfully crafted. Down from the major details (Ex. Simple Storyline/Plot) to the smallest ones (Ex. Well-written minor characters and the philosophical messages behind everything).
Juwan Bantug yes. I really loved how all the sub-plots tied in to the main plot.

That flashback scene in the first episode combined with this music got me instantly hooked. ❤️
so many life lessons in this anime. i'll never forget this show.
That makes two of us ! Best anime i've ever seen !
Konstantinos Skiniotis I would say we are three of a kind
Just rewachted it.
When I first watched the first episodes, I was like: another supernatural thing, but in the later eps I realized how deep the anime acctually was. I am currently watching the first season and hope to watch more. BTW sorry to interrupt your three of a kind. :)
Well,in my opinion is a new Fan a new Friend.
I can just recommend this.
Watch it !
Emilija Anna Silabriede Supernatural? Haha, my friend, you will come to realize fiction is stranger than fact. And fiction has to come from somewhere, right? Hmm..
My favorite scene in the anime is the last transmutation, I dont know why but when god says "Thats it, you've beat be, thats the right answer " Go ahead take him home, the back doors right over there" This scene was so good cause It seemed so easy for him to bring him back, after years of trying to get there bodys back, all god said was "doors open, he's right there". Then the "goodbye edward elric" was THE most powerful good bye i've ever heard.
And it is the most reasonable ending too. After all, he was arrogant to think that he can violate the laws of nature to bring his mother back to life. He has given up his arrogance - this is his redemption.
I feel it too. I also was awed at how they warped truths voice towards the end of that dialouge to sound like eds, and how after youve come to sort of hate thw truth somewhat, it turns out all along he was waiting, and waiting, for ed to beat him. After all, was it ed the entire time?
Anyway, this anime will always be one of my favorites.
@@bean7127 Technically it was all of those, lol. But yeah that scene was most definitely powerful. It's strange, everyone has their own truth, and Edward was able to defeat his own. I'm sure that he thought Alchemy was what defined him and made him great, but in the end he was able to destroy his own ability to do any alchemy EVER.
It's amazing because he discovered the answer by his experience fighting father and the homunculus which caused him to change his views on alchemy and the world and highlighted his own sins.
@@navivaldez6240 its not his alchemy that he destroyed but his truth. He chose to instead of trying to become a higher being like the dwarf that kept looking at god instead destroy his ego, his truth. so he may accept the place the universe has given him and live a fullfilling life. thats what the scene is about, its a representation of socrates his two divides. the touchable world and the world of ideals and forms. the last one is where ''Truth' resides. Truth is always a reflection of those before him, blind for it doesn't matter what he sees as ''Truth is blind' in that white room is every ideal and possibility there is everything and nothing, therefore the room is empty. by giving up his doorway, Ed accepts his own place in this world and stops strifing to become more then just a human. ''I was a human to start with and couldn't even save a little girl, just a puny tiny human..'' and that is the right answer truth wants. Truth wants Acceptance. wether it be the death of their mother, or the flask his pursuit of trying to become something greater then he is. Its incredibly philosophical. interesting to note is also Truth his response to the flask with 'You should have seen this coming with your own eyes'' as when he would finally 'Become god' he would no longer be himself. He'd have lost his individuality and therefore himself. they both god the ending they desired. one through Truth, the other through Acceptance.

I'm gonna be honest: When this started playing during Ed's beatdown of Father, combined with a certain Greed quote, I started crying
or after he dug out his mother's body and in the hotel he and Al got the conclusion his body is still possible to be recovered, it was that kind of moment I knew the anime would start moving on higher gears.
Oh absolutely

Tony Serletic Which episode of which series?
Tony Serletic Uhm sorry dude but that quote was actually said by Bertrand Russell
"Whether it be an arm, or a leg, or even my heart, you can take it!! Just give him back... HE'S MY LITTLE BROTHER AND HE'S ALL I HAVE LEFT!!!"
good thing he took the arm and not the heart.

well not the heart but other internal organs could be taken, like in Izumi's case
pegasBaO23 I haven't read the manga, but it's implied in the anime that her reproductive organs were taken. But I feel like whatever is causing her to spit blood like a waterfall has to be something else and im not sure what else could be taken without her dying. Pretty sure those two things are mutually exclusive
"You're willing to cast it aside? To lower yourself to a simple human?"
"What do you mean lower myself? That's the only thing I've ever been. Just a simple human who couldn't save a little girl..."
Not even with alchemy.
Gratz you said a quote from a show.

+NakiNaki Serrano best scene in all series... fucking loved it, amazing, pure love and joy...
+NakiNaki Serrano This is just a show. I hate my brother.
+Barney The Swagasaur Just because something is a work of fiction does not mean it can't illustrate real human feelings. I dislike my own sister quite strongly for a variety of reasons, and I have no desire to be close to her, but I deeply love and respect the bond Ed and Al share; and I know real-life people who would do anything for their siblings, just like these two characters. No one is forcing you to love anyone if you do not wish to, of course, but please don't dismiss emotions, messages and philosophies just because they are presented to you via a show, book, painting, song or movie. More often than not, imaginary creations are rooted in real experiences -- and FMA is certainly one of those; to portray life and its lessons in the form of stories based on augmented association is one of humanity's most unique and useful talents, and should be appreciated, especially when it's done as well as it is in this show :)
Man the creator had to be really intelligent to make this it's so rich with alchemy and history

No offense to Arakawa at all but alchemy isn't really that cmplicated if you really think about it. It's essentially just math but instead of numbers it's different materials, liquids etc.

When kami-sama admitted he got defeated :O, thats the pinnacle of anime producers' intelligence imo
well you sort of have it right, ed “won” against kami by losing; he surrendered. by realizing that his greatest asset, strength, and weakness was his humanity and that that is everything and nothing, he learned the lesson kami was trying to teach him the whole time; his place. that we’re only human, but that’s not bad. that’s all we need, more than enough in fact, and our greatest gift.

how can this anime be so perfect?
Mirai Yume my thoughts exactly. No anime like this keeps you enthralled in every single episode and just sucks you in and plays with your emotions like they're dolls.
Simply, THE ORIGINAL WRITER PUT ALL HIS MIND, HEART AND SOUL IN CREATING A REALLY GENUINE STORY. and the Bones´ guys make friendships relation with her.
It was actually authored by a woman. Hiromu Arakawa
GMorgan84 He/she said her at the end.
The only default of the serie is that she can be a little boring sometime by staying too much time on something not really interesting when we just want the storie to continue.
And if i say that it's because it's so perfect that i have to find at least one default ;)
Al: "I just cant take it!!"
"I cant take all the nights alone!!"
A very underrated moment in the series indeed.
Before that quote i was wondering why he wanted to turn back to a human i mean he'll get so much weaker then this quote combined with him not being able to taste food made me realize why
which episode was it ?
Ah.. It's been a year hasn't it? That was one of the best weeks I've had watching anime. Thank you, FMA:Brotherhood. I'll miss you.
Have you watched the 2003 series? I am halfway through FMA:Brotherhood, taking it very slowly because I know I'll miss it so much when I finish it.
Nope. I refuse to watch almost anything that's longer than 50 episodes now (That's not counting episodes of multipble seasons) I usually get bored when I get pass 26 episodes.
Asada Shino Well, dunno, If I miss FMA too much I *may* check out the 2003 series even if it strays too far from the original... We'll see how that works out.
Truthfully, you should watch the 2003 series for the episodic stories, then switch to Brotherhood for the main plot.
***** Yeah, the thing is, the reason that they skimmed the first part of FMA:B is because most of the details on the plot concerning that part (excluding the things that strayed from the manga) was covered in the 2003 anime thus making it very character building specific (I preferred the death of Maes in 2003 for example).
They didn't want to make the fans feel repetitiveness so they left most of the details that the 2003 anime has covered on its own and thus explaining the fact of some new to the series feel that it's rushed on early parts.
Tl;dr watch the 2003 series if you want to know more about the characters and the backstory in general.

I always just think about the dwarf in the flask scene. That's was so amazing.
Agreed. I think he's also a very complex character with more depth and tragedy than people give him credit for. After all, Greed stated he just wanted friends like the ones Edward had. And Greed is apart of the Dwarf.
@@joshmoonXY Hell, thats one of the main points why this anime is so great, the characters have so much nuance and feel like actual people that grow and change.
One of my favourites will always be the Truth. Because it really isn´t what most people think, not an antatgonist nor really a cruel task master.
The Truth is actually a mirror. Seen in it always apearing in the shape of the people meeting it and having their voice be more prominent in the jumble it uses.
And that? Its a fantastic metaphor and a great bit of forshadowing we get for the ending.
So when Edward meet´s it, it is in truth not really some entity arbiting over the laws of Alchemy in his way. And when he looks at the problem in front of him, it is a reflection of himself, so the "Truth" is staring right back at him.
It even outright says so "I am ... (and) also you!". He himself is in reallity whats in his way and also what took Al`s body and his arm and leg with the attempt at playing with life and death. But his hubris and views blind him to that, not accepting that the cause and solution for all this was himself.
And that is just such a fantastic piece of writing.
@@theexchipmunk I still have trouble grasping what truth is. I understand your explanation. On the other hand, it does seem like truth is a distinct entity. Perhaps both a separate entity and a reflection of people who enter the portal. Unless it's all just a metaphor rather than completely literal. It's hard to categorize what is literal, and what is metaphor. When it comes to the truth.
Either way, the concept still gives me goosebumps because the truth is frightening either way.
@@joshmoonXY It definitely isn´t just a mirror. I mostly regard the encounters with the Truth as being a "A shape you can understand" situation. It´s at the same time literal and metaphorical. A kind of no-space when you gaze at the "Truth" of existance. The Truth being a representation of everything, but because humans are limited to their own experience focussed mostly on themselves and what moves and interests them.
"Take my leg, take my arm, take my heart take everything!! Just give him back, he's my little brother he's all I have left!!" Serious Feels right now!!
You truly understand this song.
True
Alright, not gonna lie here. I'm in the RCN (Royal Canadian Navy. Yes, we have a navy) and a buddy of mine had this on his removable hard drive. I heard good things about Fullmetal Alchemist, so I grabbed it. WOOOOAH I did not know the ride I was in for. This song, this mere soundtrack, is more moving than I ever could have imagined. SPOILER!!!***!!! With Al sacrificing himself, and the final transmutation to get him back, it nearly brought me to tears. I didn't think, that in 64 episodes of a show, I could grow so attached to characters and nearly cry ( as a super hardcore navy mechanic). This song is something I yearned to listen to, but I was merely constrained by the short bits I got while watching the show. The final scenes with Ed, Al and God are just as moving as the finale to Code Geass. They struck this one out of the park.
I have probably watched over 150 anime during my lifetime and FMAB is one of the 3 animes I would rate 10/10. A perfection and a legend of its own.
This song hit me like a freight train when it played in the background of Al sacrificing himself. The carnival-esq. portion of it is so sinister and perfect. Coupled with Ed's screams (both dub and sub), it makes me cry every time.

Last year my teacher was asking random questions and I’m normally silent during class and I never raise my hand to answer questions but the teacher asked what is alchemy and I was the only person to raise my hand. I say, “Alchemy: the science of understanding deconstructing and reconstructing matter. However, it is not an all powerful art. It is impossible to create something from nothing. If one wishes to obtain something, something of equal value must be given, this is the law of equivalent exchange, the basis of Alchemy. There is a taboo among alchemist. Human transmutation is strictly forbidden, for what could equal the value of human soul. Thank God my teacher watched fma and he laughed after I said that and everyone else thought I got the question right, which I technically did.

I've honestly never found an anime i'll ever enjoy more than FMAB. The manga was amazing. The soundtrack is flawless, the art style is great and the characters, their stories and how they change is amazing. To me FMAB is an anime/manga that I compare everything else I watch/read to. It's something you can look at an be like "Damn how can I make something as perfect as this". It is a pillar of the anime world.
Truth was happy to be beaten, that's the best part.
Truth was technically responsible for all the pain the boys went through, and yet, it wasn't out of spite
He(?) was just a force of nature, and through him, everything was taken, and then returned
What a brilliant analogy for God. Not against you, not for you, but there. Fair in their cruelty. Endless in their power, but hardly ever using it
It's a very mature understanding of God. In my opinion, it's the best one
I'm literally thinking of starting watching this anime just for its soundtracks.
Worth the watch my fav anime watch the brotherhood verison its better than the original
+Giorgi M Please do, it's a wonderful anime :)
+Slater Gator Why are you going to misguide this guy by saying that? FMAB is definitely more uplifting, but there are so many things that the first anime did better. They are both awesome, so you should watch both of them. I would recommend starting with the first one because Brotherhood does a piss poor job introducing the story.
Zack Taylor I tried to start watching a while ago with FMAB and I couldn't stick with it because the whole thing was presented like... How do I put it... Like it was meant to have some kind of prequel that I haven't watched.. Like it was going for quite a while and I started watching the anime in the middle instead of from the first episode, if that makes sense.
Noooo! I felt the same way when I first tried to watch it and that steered me away from both series for years. I will admit that I don't really like how they introduced the show either, those first threeish or so episodes were eh (even though I think BH handled it's first seven episodes terribly.) But you should really watch the anime all the way through. They make their childhood and the human transmutation and such so much more emotional. The villian is actually developed and isn't just some mwhaha type of bad guy with intentions to take over the world. The origin of the humunculii in the show is really interesting. I'm not saying you'll like it better than brotherhood if you watch it, but it's still very much worth your time, it's an amazing anime.
"Correct, alchemist! You've defeated me. Take everything you want! The back door is over that way, Edward Elric."
Sends chills down my spine, first piece of music to ever do that

This, HxH, Parasyte and JoJo have the best soundtracks imo
The sad thing is... I've watched this as my first anime ever, and it was so good I can't even watch other shows, because they would all have to compare to this masterpiece. Can anyone recommend a similar anime that is at least as good as Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood?
Black Butler, Attack On Titan, Inuyasha, Code Geass, Death Note, Elfen Lied, Hataraka Maou Sama.
They're all different genres; some action, drama, and one's a comedy, but these anime are all one of the best in their genres in my opinion ^-^

Thanks, man! I'll definitely check at least some of these out. I actually wanted to look into Attack on Titan anyway, because I heard many good things about it, but I always forgot about.
***** Okay, thanks! I kinda didn't really start watching anything yet, only the first episode of Black Butler (which was kinda entertaining, but as with every first episode I can't judge it properly yet of course). I'll definitely check out Code Geass once I have some more time!
The whole 'I can't watch anything else because it doesn't compare' is just a phase. It happens to me when I finish a good anime. It happened with SAO too.
Victoria Brown Thank you very much! I definitely take notes of all the suggestions, but for some reasons I decided to ask for them right when I was actually about to have not much free time anymore. So far I've only watched the very first episode of Code Geass, and it was interesting, but I didn't like the art style much, if that makes sense. I guess I'll watch the first few episodes of each of those suggestions and either I'll get hooked right away, or I'll just have to watch more and see!
I haven't seen this show in years, but this song suddenly popped into my head this morning and I just knew I had to hear it again...

"Mm... So... Your soul has entered you, huh? But will he be coming back for you?"
"He will! I'm sure of it!"
"I can't wait to see what he'll be sacrificing."
-
"AL, YOU DUMBAAAAAAASS!!!!!"
Have you seen the outtakes?
Truth: "So, your soul has entered you. But, will he be coming back for you?"
Al: "No, he won't. This is the end."
My heart sank!
777LoveStory Lol.
WHY DID YOU HAVE TO REMIND ME OF THIS
***** feelmetal alchemist
then the rest is edward dominating father, with his bare fists
Fullmetal alchemist and brotherhood. Such a unique series. I can just keep rewarding them over and over.
Like how this song played when ed got his knowledge at the cost of his bro and himself, but loved how he learned from his mistakes and saw the beauty of living as a regular person without alchemy
Most definitely the best song that was composed for Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. I feel like this is an anime that everyone needs the opportunity to watch in their life. It's definitely a masterpiece. Definitely up there as some of the best animes to be created.
It´s definitely one of the best. But pretty much all of them are absolutely fantastic. One of my personal favorites is Truth´s theme. That one is so calm but also feels somehow quiet wrong and unsettling.
THE BACK DOOR IS RIGHT OVER THERE
GOODBYE EDWARD ELRIC!
I swear I love Listening to this

Al: I cant stand being alone at night anymore!
STAHP THE FEELZ!!!!!

Still conflicted over whether this or Avatar: The Last Airbender is the greatest animated TV series ever made
Aenigma66 Avatar was an animated series first, then due to popularity it spawned comics, but it was top notch, easily one of the top 10 must watch anime
Everything with a consistent plot which deals with serious themes and has this particular style of art I classify as anime.
Legend of Korra, if I'm not mistaken (not 100% sure), is animated by Studio Pierrot, the same Studio that animates Naruto and it's stationed in South Korea, but again not 100% sure
Edit: The Pierrot Studio animated big chunk of Korra Book 2, ATLA was partly animated by South Korean Studious
Aenigma66 Anime is an english version (anime) of a japanese version (a-ni-me) of an english word (animation), so technically "anime" just means "animation." Other definitions need not apply. People who "reserve" the word anime for only Japan are frankly kind of elitist. So yeah, Avatar is "anime."
Noah Fence yeah but your definition enlists Amazing World of Gumbal the same as Buccano! and Cowboy Bebob, take that as you please.
pegasBaO23 That's why genres exist. and stylistic decisions are made and target audiences are chosen and literally everything else having to do with media production.
He who would devour god could not foresee his end at the hands of two young men and their brotherhood.
"Get up you novice, im about to show you just how outclassed you really are, this fight you lose."
Just about every time this song plays in the show, it goes hard, EVERYTIME.
I remember watching the first 4 episodes of the 03 anime and while I was into it, it didn't hook me right away. But then I see the first 2 episodes of Brotherhood. It was THIS ost and the scene of the failed transmutation in ep 2 that hooked me right away. I became a Fullmetal fan right away.
Same scene hooked me too bro, so fire like this song 🔥😩😩
I get chills every time whenever I hear potentially one of the most triumphant lines of the series “Good job! You beat me! The back door’s right over there! Goodbye Edward Elric!”- the truth’s final appearance
This music became my moving out music. When I move out of an appartment, I always, once my stuff are in the truck and that I know it's the last time I'll be there, put headset with this ost and walk out, looking one last time at the rooms. It seems a bit overdramatic but honnestly, it feels good.
That's awesome
heLpP I finished this watching the whole night yesterday and the part from 2:16 DOESN’T STOP playing in my mind
0:27 "Keep moving brother."
"F*CK HIM UUUUUP!"
FUCK YEAH!
How many years has it been. Animes today just dont create the same feeling anymore. Sure some make me sad or happy but they lost the emotions somewhere along the way. Animes before 2010 just hit different. I wish i could live for 1 month in this timeline again, just to enjoy these little things.
The world got itself in a hurry and lost the most human thing behind. I hope the future that awaits us, is full of beautiful suprises because we all need them, more now than ever. My suprise back then was Full metal alchemist and I have never forgotten about it.
This was a golden age
With every sour note, it flashes before my eyes time and time again. The moments of horror, the triumphs of greatness. The depravity and beauty of man... This is truly one of the best Anime of all time!
When Ed finally defeated Truth at the end I was literally cheering him on. What a great show.
The way this anime ended was truly a unforgettable experience, like many of you said, this show made choices that we all wouldn't have done and it made us sad or mad, but it kept the drama. Is it me or does this anime deserve to become one of the anime legends :).
"This is the center of the circle, we are standing in it."
The Dwarf in the Flask...
Homunculus
That moment when Alphonse literally sacrificed his soul just to get Ed’s arm back was brotherly love in its purest form. With nothing but rage, sadness, and determination to win, he fought a dwarf in a jar who had absorbed god and fought him with is *bare hands.*
I feel like I've been hit by a tsunami of feels and memories. I still remember coming home from college, eating gyozas and binging this
Thumbs up if you can practically hear little Edward's and Alphonse' voices in the background.
This music combined with the epic final scene between Truth and Edward...... Sends Goosebumps everytime I think about it..... One of the best Anime and Story........

I want to become Japanese-English-Polish translator/interpretator so leave it to me :) Let me rewrite it:
Father: Stones... humans... energy! (Ishi... ningen... enerugii!)
Hohenheim: Edward! (Edowaado!)
Father: Give it to me! (Yokose!)
...
Ed: What are you trying to do? Don't do it... Hey... Al! (Nani wo suru ki da? Yamero... Oi... Aru!)
Al: Win this, brother. (Kate yo, nii-san)
Ed: NOOOOOOOOO!!! (YAMEROOO!!!)
[...]
Ed: YOU IDIOOOOOOOOT!!! (BAKA YAROOO!!!)
Will this do?
(Maybe I should've changed "brother" to "Ed" because in English speaking countries you address your elder siblings by name, not title... but I'm too attached to "nii-san", I can't help it 😛)
Well, I think I already know this scene by heart, lol.
Sorry I used romaji for Japanese but I'm writing on my phone where I don't have a Japanese keyboard option :/ Katakana words look so awkward in romaji and I'm not sure where to put spaces but yeah, whatever...
🤣
Best anime/manga ever. Period. Too many emotions. Arakawa sensei you're amazing!
"This world isnt perfect, but its always there for us. Doing the best it can.... Thats what makes it so damn beautiful" -Roy Mustang
This theme conveys all the feelings and moments you will have and see respectively while watching this show. Every time I read a comment or watch someone talk about this show, they always say something along the lines of "I wish I could watch this show for the first time again."
I too share this wish. Definitely one of my favorite, if not my number one, shows
When you think you are having a good time... and reality knocks at your door, put this theme
It's been 4 and a half years since I watched this, my all time favorite show to this day. Feels like it's been a lot less. Got a busy month coming up but I think it's about time I gave this a rewatch.
1:06. when all the feels hit ya. they crack that bit when all the emotional parts happen...cri evry tim
This is the staple of the entire soundtrack for me. It fills you with so much sadness. It makes you realize all the pain the characters are going through when it plays. Just like the show, just like the entire soundtrack, it's a masterpiece.
