- The Saab JAS 39 Gripen, also designated as the F-39 Gripen, is a fourth-and-a-half generation single-engine light multipurpose fighter manufactured by the Swedish aerospace company Saab. It was designed to replace the Saab 35 Draken and 37 Viggen in the Swedish Air Force.

I am Brazilian and I am very, very proud Brazil bought dozens of Gripen NG and I tell you, few days ago Venezuela Gov said they want part of Guiana territory after an US oil company discovered in this area the biggest oil deposit in the world and I believe one of the reason Venezuela did not invade this area is due the US and also due the fact Brazil has Gripens squad read to protect our borders. Thanks the Swidesh who believed in this great partnership with Embraer company, the 3rd large aircraft producer in the world. Thanks SAAB and thanks Sweden.

Venezuela has been fighting for the Esequibo territory for over a century, so it's not a recent dispute. Besides, the biggest confirmed oil reserves in the world are still in Venezuela, not Guyana. The Venezuelan goverment is desperate and wants to divert attention and perhaps get a "conquest" before the 2024 elections. I don't know if the oil rigs and such are on the west side of the Esequibo region, but if Venezuela decides to unleash war the political consecuences would throw it on the pit not just because Brasil or the US, but daddy China has money there too. Much love from a Venezuelan!

A highly capable fighter with excellent speed and range designed and built in a northern climate with long distance Arctic operations in mind... if the Canadian government had any sense at all we'd have bought a fleet of these.
Instead we run slower, less capable FA-18's, designed for carrier based operations of which we own exactly 0.
Oh yeah and when those aged out we bought more, second hand, from Australia.

A veces para no escribir tanto, lo hago mediantes signos.
Porque ademas despues lo tengo que traducir al menos que Ud sepa Español. y lo hago por educacion, asi que recuro a los emoticon como medio de comuicacion mas univesal, cuando no hay mucho que añadir a lo escrito.
El origen del lenguaje escrito esta en la Escritura Cuniforme, los Gerogificos, y demas medios de representacion que dieron lugar a poder trasmitir ideas, conocimientos…

@@karloyu3484 I think the Gripen is coming to Ukraine, one way or another. Ukrainian pilots starts training on Gripen in Sweden this August (2023). And ground crew as well. 🙂

Eight Gripens stationed in Sicily participated in the NATO OUP, Operation Unified Protector, against Libya in 2011. Due to political restrictions it was prevented from attacking ground targets unless first attacked, but thanks to its capabilities it quickly gained respect among the rest of the participants and its role was upgraded to a forward position early on during its deployment. The Gripen flew hundreds of sorties during seven months. But you are right, it hasn't proven itself during live dogfights or live strike missions. However, the Gripen has proven its unique capabilities in very realistic combat exercises many times, including the Red Flag. There really is no reason to doubt its capabilities. 😉

Are the Brazilian Gripens made by Saab in Sweden or are they licence-built by Embraer in Brazil?
Brazil will receive Gripens from Sweden until this year. From 2025 onwards, the Gripen E will be produced in Brazil, but the Gripen F (biplace) will be manufactured in Sweden.

@@einundsiebenziger5488 Hi, I'm Brazilian. I haven't seen the Gripen in person yet, but I'm very happy that my country selected the Gripen E/F. And also Saab built 2 factories here, one for parts and one for assembly. EMBRAER is producing Gripens with technology transfer.
