- The Hungarian Air Force put on the best JAS 39 Gripen display I've ever seen in person during day 2 of the 2021 Kecskemét airshow. They really gave it their all in front of the home crowd.

Did I just see a *long* , inverted negative G turn. Directly followed by a pretty hard positive turn!? Hats off for the pilot
It must be László the g-monster. There is also a video of a saab test pilot doing -3 to 8 transition followed by a long 9.
yeah i noticed that one to, not often a jet fighter does that on displays.

I am proud of having been a small part of the JAS39 Gripen development. As a young engineer at Ericsson Radio Systems, I did in 1982 write the original specifications for the graphics on the pilots four main displays.
Gotta feel strange being phased out now huh?

We are a small country. What other small country has made their own fighter jet? I'am so proud to be Swedish. There a landing strips all over the country (small paymen roads) where this beast can land and take off. My heart beats with that soaring sound and it makes me feel safe that we are protected.
Skål, ta mej fan.
Do agree on every point.👍🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
@@zeafreeks......and ? What do you imply?
The only "small" part that I can readily think of Sweden is perhaps its population. In terms of landmass however, Sweden is not small at all.
@@rthelionheart Don't worry, the Muslim population is getting larger by the hour...
Glad to see we did the right choice. 🇧🇷🇸🇪🇧🇷🇸🇪🇧🇷🇸🇪🇧🇷🇸🇪🇧🇷🇸🇪🇧🇷
Not really, Brazil being much larger than Sweden needs a two engine fighter. You need something that can travel fast but also carry a heavier weapons payload 😢
@@sajeevperera5349 so Brazil doesn’t know what is best for them? They need a twin engine with heavier payload.?? You need that if you are attacking not defending. I’ll bet 7 Gripen to the cost of 1 f-22 raptor would be an argument to buy Gripen. And 7 Gripen would destroy a single f-22 easely.
@@donsekr8520 maybe , but what about the added weight of drop tanks? More fuel I assume would be a good thing when you’re defending such a large surface area.
@@sajeevperera5349 sorry, I don’t understand drop tanks. A single engine aircraft can go much further than a twin.
@@donsekr8520 depends which aircraft you are referring to, but generally 4th or 5th gen fighters with two engines can travel an equal or greater distance to a single. Also, range will vary depending on how much weight is carried. So the manufacturers stated ranges are without a weapons package being included. If you want to carry more weapons and want to go faster and further, a two engine option is better.
My sister was married to a test/demo pilot in Sweden a few years ago. I remember visiting at their cabin in the far north of Sweden one summer, while he was regularly stationed at a base nearby.
I was outside in the forest i saw and heard him and his squadron on a sortie as they briefly thundered by overhead. He loved flying the Vigen, Gripen an SK 60. Some stories I would hear, from him and his buddies!
Those days were surreal. Great memories.
I’m very sick now. My wealth is not material, those days seem impossible to think that really happened.
Thank you for this beautiful nostalgic moment.
I'm very glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for sharing your experience!

Utmärkt! A phenomenal plane, considering its age. The Swedes really are at the top of the class when it comes to amazing tech, well ahead of its time. As a Brit living in Sweden as a Swedish citizen, I find myself feeling incredibly proud of the nation that welcomed me and protects me from the evils of the World.
Ahead of its time? How, pray tell us?
@@johanlassen6448 It's a term of phrase. I simply meant that Sweden is well renowned for technology that is bleeding edge. I'm sure you can find plenty of results if you Google Swedish military technology, such as the Saab 35 Draken, which was a great example of breaking boundaries. Consider also Swedish artillery design. Perhaps not comparable to the turboprop versus the jet when it comes to being ahead of its time, but still enough of a divide to deserve the tag, in my opinion. Sorry if that bothers you.
@@rogan_se Sorry to burst your bubble but as a Swede I can comfortably tell you that while we do manufacture some good stuff, a lot is actually overmarketed and mediocre. Gripen being one such thing.
@Johan Lassen No bubble burst 🙂 I just disagree. But it's only an opinion. I'm impressed (as many are) with your military capabilities, considering how small Sweden's spending capabilities are.
@Johan Lassen But all other stuff like the new Carl Gustav is insane, you can fire it I side a house, that's insane and the Archer is also brilliant
I have never seen such a display. Saab should hire this guy as a test pilot. Shooting flares while in a loop, turning. Controlled decent while inverted. Thanks Hungary for showing us what this plane can do. I'm Swedish by the way.
And so am I living next to an airbase fielding thease.

That bird is so underrated. It’s a magnificent piece of engineering
My goodness, what a display. The JAS 39 Gripen is a fantastic aircraft and the Swedish have pulled a belter out of the bag and at such an attractive price per unit.
Not to mention an extremely low price to maintain and keep flying, especially compared to machines like the F-35.
Never seen an aircraft do inverted negative G-turns before, no even in movies. Very cool. And from that directly into a positive G-turn too is quite something.
The pilot knows his plane.
Yes HUNAF pilots are very cool🤩🥳🇭🇺
They train very hard
It’s more affordable to train when it cost 1/4 of F35 in cost per flight hour. ;)
one of the most potent and beautiful fighterplanes on the planet - done by (relatively) small sweden! Congrats!
It's really impressive to see a fighter doing a tight turn and not losing energy. This is the worst nightmare for a fighter pilot.
My biggest respect for pilot. And yes, this demo is by far the best one i've ever seen as well
How fun and cool it must be, to be a pilot having the skills to fly like that.
Han heter Martin Ramsin.
I love this jet. It just LOOKS RIGHT!
The 2nd most impressive JAS 39 demo ive seen. The best one i saw in Norrköping Sweden by a South African elite unit pilot. Most pilots fly along the axis of the planes mass-center, that guy flew around the point of the mass center. He could do some crazy maneuvering by doing this. Literally flying and turning on a knives edge.
@@jaysindab2018 south africa didnt have gripen back then. I guess he means malmen, no real reason for gripen to demo over nkpg, although they do line up the malmen landing over skarblacka and roxen
Performance : cost = easily the best in the world. Other more powerful jets all come with so much higher prices & maintainance costs. Perfect for small countries aiming for defense. Awesome Swedish engineering, and skills from this pilot too. Love from Thailand. ❤
We already know what a Thai pilot can do in a Gripen, wonderful things! 👍❤
4:18 i was at an airshow recently, and the Gripen was flying. the noises when it passes you you can really feel it. physsically. amasing feeling
This is the first time I've seen flares deployed in a flight demonstration. Nice!
I always get a tent i my pants when I hear the Gripen ROAR thru the skies here in Sweden... 🤘😃🤘
Kudos to the cameraman, very impressive work!
Thank you very much!
Such an amazing fighter! And for the interested, it can be seen doing aerobatics during the FlygFesten airshow in the middle of Sweden 5-7th of August.
And Draken and Viggen are also on the program. Not to mention a (Belgian) F16, the Norwegian, Swedish and Swiss air force and their airshow squadrons,
Jurgis Kairys, Spitfire, Mustang, Vampire, Tiger Moths etc etc.
People come from all over the world, in their own planes also. But really is a hidden gem. The largest airshow in Scandinavia, held every 3 years in a small village no one has heard of.
I would fly with that pilot anytime .Great work
When I see this excellent weapon and performance I am proud to be swedish! 👍🏻🥰
Ive seen the plane quite often since im swedish but this pilot is a the real maverick wtf
Great Magyár Pilot on Swedish airplane. Very nice. Greatings from Slovakia :)

One can imagine if SAAB had the same budget as
USA.🤔🌞
@@mauriziosant1658 Saab is making the new US trainer with Boeing :)
It's not classified as a 5 gen plane, but a 4+. The F-35 is a 5 gen, since they JUST changed the definition to exclude supercruise ability which the JAS Gripen has and the F-35 do not. So .. don't take these classifications to heart, they are shifting to follow what the U.S airplane industry desires ...
Still a wonderful aircraft, even if few want to buy it. And the successor will blow everyone out of the water.

Once I discovered this plane capabilities and purpose I immediately felt in love with it 🧡
The gripen is such an insane and cool looking aircraft
I love the sound! It's the sound of Swedens freedom for generations❤
People discussing F35 vs JAS 39 are not really aware of what either plane is made and designed for. Entirely different mission sets and using entirely different Data links and support echelons. The Gripen is a cheap, highly maneuverable interceptor with extremely light reconnaissance and ground attack mode capabilities. You cannot go anywhere with an F35 without a ridiculously large maintenance and logistics train behind it. The JAS 39 can land on dirt paved roads in the arctic circle, go through basic maintenance and refueling/rearmament and be airborne again in five minutes.
You're not going to disrupt anyone's behind the frontlines tea party with a Gripen, but with a properly air refueled F35 sortie and a Growler in between the squadron you're dropping pancakes on anyone and anything whether they want you to or not. Whether the F35 has the ability to directly replace close in air support has always and currently is in debate, but this is not something the Gripen is going to wind up doing either. Pretty sure the primary mission set of gripen squadrons are to patrol coastlines and prevent enemy attack runs on coastal defenses and land based air defense and artillery. Something that seems to be pretty much right in the ball park of what the modern battlefield of Ukraine (with major peer-on-peer combat for the first time in decades) demands.
You still need airsupremacy fighters to escort f-35
About right...I am not an F35 fan since it is mainly a disaster...extremely expensive and not really good at anything...heavy, maintenance heavy, not capable to perform in a traditional dogfight which, by the way, is important -as history shows. Might be quite stealthy though...
@@eriknilsson4689 unless it goes supersonic for over 90 seconds , then apparently it sheds its stealth coating from what I have read .
@@zahkam7322 the air frame itself is stealth though. If a radar is below or even close to below it has a radar cross section of a ping-pong ball
@@marenagbg that's very interesting , Thanks! Iv always believed that the coating that they use on stealth aircraft play a much bigger role in their stealth abilities . and ones that flakes or falls off , it gets compromised .
I've always been mesmerized by the Gripen in flight. The profile is just magnificent. 10/10 Sweden 🫡

As a Canadian, I was hoping our Armed Forces would have chosen this over the F 35 to replace the F 18.
Me too. Gripen always draw the shortest when only their is 2-3 left :(
I would like to see 65 JAS39 and 35 F35 ,makes more sense for Canada as the JAS39 can be used more for patrols with a much lower operating cost. What Germany just did, bought 35 F35 yet fly euro fighter
Pure geopolitics, Canada never had a real choice after bribes and threats.

Such a bad ass pilot and aircraft.
What a pilot and what a plane
Damn beautiful. These would be great escort planes to Finnish F-35 fighters. Or Hornets, for that matter. Swedes sure can build some VERY impressive war machines. Gripen, Archer, A26 submarine. Finland should definitely get some Archers, maybe 2-4 A26 Blekinge with 18 Tomahawks and AUVs.
Finland got a great deal on the purchase price of its F-35's (I have no data about maintenance costs though). I understand that Norway is a bit upset about it as they paid a lot (understatement) more for theirs.
@@RobertClaeson The thing people don't understand when talking about purchasing millitary equipment is all the economics that goes on behind the scene. Yes, Norway payed more per plane on paper. But the US in turn committed to spending A LOT on Norwegian weapons and technology, and implement that tech into the F35 program. Norway also got their first F35's in 2015, that will be a decade before Finland get theirs. Buying into new tech early is obviously more expensive than buying tech that has been out for decade(s).
Ari, don't forget our anti tank weapons. Just sent another 5000 pcs to Ukraine. They (among others) say they love them. Go Suomi, go.

I live 2 km from the factory where Gripens are made. They have their own airfield there and I see them practice for theese shows all the time. I think this one was artistic, but not very war-like.
