I used to produce "ads" like this one for McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) for the F-15, F-18 and AV-8B. These pieces are used to help sell planes to politicians with the purse strings. Everyone knows they are idealized, but they work. I was also an aviator in the A-6 Intruder. I know the difference between reality and hype. But hype sells, even with fighter aircraft.

I thought even if politicians want to buy planes they first ask some experts to help with the decision. Calculate expenses, and figure out exactly what type of work they want to use them.

Read a report by an expert who flew against Gripens in war games. It clearly stated Gripens are good for patrolling and reconissance but dog fights are bit difficult in gripens as these are not designed for intense air space fights and flankers , F 15 ,F 16, MiG 29 are specially built for it
Gripen first participated in Red Flag 2006 with the Gripen A, It was assigned to the red team. Reduced AWACS, reduced ground support. The Gripens connected their link systems and acted themselves as AWACs, got the battlefield awareness necessary and avoided all ground defence, scored 10 kills the first day including a Typhoon. No losses they remained undetected. One Gripen pilot knocked down five F-16 block 50+ during close air combat in Red Flag Alaska. And the Gripens never lost any aerial encounter or failed their mission objectives. It was the only fighter that performed all planed starts, while others were sitting on the ground waiting for the weather to clear up. The evaluation was that Gripen capacity needed to be revaluated.
Mig 29 is no match for F4 Phantom. Proven by Koreans
as he said its not good in dogfights but in bvr its good when u have more than 1 gripen to connect there data link probably the reason why the gripens where not detected was because they where either flyying low to the ground,out of the sight of ground radar or they have a low rcs
well dogfights are a thing of the past. the dogfights you see to day are on the radar screen.
A brilliant 4th generation multi role warplane....5th generation F35 is another thing entirely...F35 pilots can even look through their own legs with 360 degree orbital cameras all over the plane and any angle lock on, and it cant hurt to be stealth too.
Pilots being able to look through their aircraft by using helmet mounted displays is neither new or unique to the F35. The Apache has had it for years now.
@@rubiconnn Your entirely missing the point between a 4th gen and a 5th gen aircraft. The differences are far more than just orbital cameras. Any angle optical/anti radar detection and off bore-sight lock on and shoot for mutual kill for a start...I wouldn't want to be in a Gripen against a F35...By the time the Gripen detects the F35 it would already have a missile inbound!!

Russian fighters are speed and maneuverability.
Those fighters didnt have red stars (actually no marks of any kind, CIA fighters perhaps?), so they where most likely not Russian, actual Russian pilots today are mostly quite dreaded elite opponents.

it's not about the super maneuverability of the SU-35 against the Gripen it's about who can shoot first thus who's got the advance package of sensors.
oh, this Western belief in omnipotent sensors. only in this "fantasy", elementary flashes were taken away from the su-35, not counting the most powerful electronic warfare system.

Out maneuvering Flankers in close quarters.....even best pilots will think twice before engaging like that.
They said in the video the flanker used all his energy and then he is an easy target. Theyre way more maneuverable but energy conservation? naah. The first 30sec or so would decide the winner. Either the flanker used his energy good to maneuver for a kill or hes dead.

The main advantage of grippen is meteor and EW suite. If su fighters are less than 80kms away su will win any day.
In a dogfight, Flanker (27) and the Gripen E are even.
In a BVR, Gripen wins.
Only way for a sure victory over the Gripen E is with a Flanker-E, and in a dogfight.

hmm, the flankers in BVR didnt even fire a missile... Very interesting and effective tactics I guess...
Welll, the Griphen used the long range Meteor missile, while Russia have much longer range A to A missiles they probably would not sell them to a client subsaharan state so its realisticly taking advantage of the better radar and avoiding close combat.

Grippon is supposed to be fast and tight in a hi G turn. SU27-35s may burn off energy in a fight. SU are heavier it can make a difference. Grippon is like trying to fight an F16 with similar war load but because of movable Canards can pinch a tighter turn.

Before gripen can do what they claim it can do. Mig 31 have the same capability in Mid 90's. IRTS well MIG 29 and SU 27 in 80's BVR. In which condition does A SU Needs to be close, when SU 30MKM VS F22 and F35 IRTS was able to pick up both at Medium Range in which BVR and WVR Russian AAM can score.

Well, two on 1 its a viable win in this situation, a skilled veteran Su-27-35 pilot could still win no doubt by taking advantage of the superior maneuverability of his ship, but i think he/she would chose not to engage without support. A lesser pilot from a lesser country would most likely commit such mistakes as to allow an easy Griphen victory.
The narrative should ve portrayed it against the J 20 instead of a flanker... 😆😆
For me the gripen most selling points are its economical price tag and much friendlier running cost compared to other competitors

I think the best thing about Gripen is its low operating cost (very important) and its superior ecm and radars. So for European countries which are more or less on good terms with each other, its good for reconnaissance, networking and Bvr combat, and all.
But SUs with the powerful radars act as Mini AWACS alone. And top it high angle of incidence, very few jets can catch up. In my opinion only F15 And F16.
Even Typhoon and Rafales (a personal favorite) wouldn't do 1 on 1 or go without 100% situational awareness against a Sukhoi.
But say if a big multi dimensional war breaks out, you need tye energy fighter.
Unfortunately, Sam is able to force us to choose his birds over the Gripen.
