The Saab JAS-39 Gripen is a light single-engine multirole fighter aircraft manufactured by the Swedish aerospace company Saab. The Gripen has a delta wing and canard configuration with relaxed stability design and fly-by-wire flight controls.
It is powered by the Volvo RM12, and has a top speed of Mach 2. Later aircraft are modified for NATO interoperability standards and to undertake in-flight refuelling.

@@beastman1927 Thinking English is not your native tongue and something is getting lost in translation. Your English is definitely better than my French, or whatever language is your native tongue. Americans aren't exactly known for speaking multiple languages. The Rafael is a good airplane, sexy looking as all get out, just something about the Gripen that I like. Would like to fly it if I had the chance. I would take the F16 over any of them though.

Actually leading role of manufacture is to UK. Most of the parts are produced by them!
Just an engine by General Electric, license produced by Volvo. The newest Gripen even uses a GE engine, manufactured in the US. Ejection seats from the UK, the cannon from Germany, most missiles are license produced or from the US and european countries. American and israeli targeting and surveillance pods.

Let me tell you something in air battle bvr missile meteor is much better than pl15 as it does not have a ram jet engine. With ramjet engine a missile could speed up itself to kill a fighter jet with ease unlike a pl15 which losses kinetic energy near the end. Even with pl15 range you are again forgetting that jets can detect it far away and make countermeasures moron. Learn a little about air battle and how they are fought.

Here in Greece the officers who are in charge of evaluate the 4th generation aircraft they were interested about Grippen aswell as the eurofighter, but their conclution about Grippen was that it has poor efficiency in speed it only had one engine and in roof ceiling and also had medium results against warships. On the other hand Eurofighter was very expensive to operate and it was great about air to air combat and thats it. So they recommended Rafale F3 as the optimum solution.

It will not. The gripen was used extensively in libya during 2011 and 2012. The plane was the only one that was able to fly every mission that it was assigned and there were no mechanical issues that stopped it from flying. Same thing during the latest Red flag exercises in Nevada.
