- Together we are strong. To develop a fighter aircraft to counter and defeat future threats, cooperation between several operations is needed. In this film, you can learn more about what makes Gripen E unique and a perfect fighter aircraft for Sweden.
We hear from the Chief of the Swedish Air Force and Saab colleagues as they describe the Gripen E's capabilities.

It's so cool Sweden is manufacturing it's own fighter jets.
A lot of missile systems and airforce stuff comes from saab to a lot of nato boiiissss :D maaany years ago :D
They have done it for a very long time. The Swedish are incredible and produce a lot of high quality military gear/hardware, including equipment that is used by nations all around the world. The AT-4 missile launcher is probably one of the most reliable and known rocket launchers in the world, produced in Sweden.
the engine is still american but its nice to see other countries manufacturing their own aircraft
well... their doctrine is a lot different than the other country's. much of the doctrine I believe is based on austere runways based on converted roads and highways. which means quite a lot of FODs to avoid... and not much of design are made for it, other than the soviet designs...

It's so when the Gripen is being discussed by your government you'll go "Hey I know about that it's a really good jet," and then write your politicians telling them to buy some.
@@TheSlovenlyTactician This aircraft brings so many advantages to any country that needs to have second strike capabilities. It’s better suited than F-16s which are prone to ingest FOD from cratered / semi repaired runways.

In general the gripen is one of the most underrated single engine jets, it's so capable in the modern times.

Sweden can be proud to be able to produce such a good fighter jet. Indeed it is the smallest country in the world, as far as population is concerned, capable of building a state of the art aircraft.
Sweden shouldnt be proud. Meanwhile alot of swedish girls cant go out at night alone cause of the africans / arabians the swedens invited in last 10 years. Sweden isnt a clever country anymore, they lost to left politics. I recommend nobody to go to sweden.
we build everything our selves and always have. submarines, fighter jets, ships, wepons, tanks etc
What?
I am a proud Swede, and I am amazed about all we accomplished, SAAB, Ericsson, IKEA, AstraZenea, Bofors. We are barely 10 million. Yet we build our own submarines, jet fighters, tanks, NLAWs, the Archer artillery, nuclear reactors and so on. Think about it… we are only 10 million people.
Yes parts of it comes from other countries, yes some products are built in partnership but the design and engineering is 100% Swedish.

Gripen is one of the most capable & one the most underrated single engine fighter jets in the world. But its success has been marred by unhealthy competition.
Wtf is unhealthy competition?
@@kevlar7669 The US is extremely keen on having its allies buy from it, this means implications such as economical and political effects on the countries who do not.
The Euro fighter aswell as Russian and chinese counter parts also use this same strategy to some degrees because if a country doesnt buy tech from its allies and "friends" it means bad business which once again can have economic and political effects.
This means that it doesnt matter which fighter is better or worse, economic and political implications has a bigger impact on the decision and the actual pros and cons of the plane will likely not matter, the country buys from its allies as to not do bad business and suffer those bad effects.
TLDR: For example, Poland will be much more likely buy a F-35 or eurofighter as to show solidarity and loyalty with EU or NATO rather than buy a SAAB Gripen or a Russian/Chinese counterpart. Not because it is necessarily better or worse, but because it needs the connections with the US and EU and is possibly able to suffer political and economical consequences if it does not.
Even more TLDR: The big countries like: USA, Russia, UK/France/Germany and China etc are greedy to show their influence and power, but its obviously no surprise lmao.
Ah you mean there is better fighters out there
The Swiss would disagree, they didn’t rate it very highly. All very well discussing its capabilities but in its current state right now it’s missing software updates to have it fully functional, similar to why the Typhoon was rejected. TheRafael and F35 we’re far more capable (at the time).
The Gripen? Underrated?
Lol what?
The Gripen E/F is by far the most overrated single engine jet flying today.
Everywhere you go on the Internet for example, at every page and post that talks about the Gripen there's always a bunch of retarded gripen fanboys saying how it is very underrated and/or claiming that it's also at least the best of all 4th gen jets, which is clearly not true.

As a proud American and military aviation fan, I can’t wait for y’all to join NATO. Gripen may not be a stealth plane, but it’s got turnaround time the Lightning II can’t hope to beat, and when you live close to rowdy neighbors, there’s no understating how important that is. There’s so much we can learn from each other.

The only fact that it can land on a highway is freaking amazing
All fighter jets can land on public roads and all countries have contingency plans for that if necessary.
@@sevedbaathus Militaries all over Europe and the US have plans for this, why do you think there are mobile aircraft refueling units in armies...the US does training exercises on public roads and I'm sure NATO countries do too.
Last week F/A-18 Hornets, Pilatus PC-12s and BAe Hawks did the same thing in Finland as part of a yearly highway flight operations exercise. It's not really a special feature.
The US has the capability to land C-130 tankers to refuel aircraft as they're being rearmed on public roads to be as close to the front line as possible.

I've followed and appreciated Gripen since the early 2000s. I thought for sure you guys had a chance in Canada. IMHO though, your marketing is way too cerebral and pitched to the left brain. You need to be more Lockheed Martin (great salespeople) and less Northrop Grumman (great engineers) in your messaging. I also get that you play stats and numbers close to the vest, but that means everything is super-vague and hard to get excited about. Just an opinion!
The senior officers in the RCAF always want whatever shiniest thing the Americans have, even if it is the wrong choice for Canada. So when they wrote the evaluation criteria they made sure it looked fair at a high level, but somewhere down deep in the details it was skewed to favour the F-35.

Several MoDs/Air Forces and basic common sense disagree with you pal. The Gripen is not the best non stealth jet in the world.
thanks for reply mcb. I'm actually one of the biggest new-build F-16 fans on net. I was one of those F16XL cheerleaders in fact. I've been extremely critical of USAF for not pursuing stopgap new-build buys going back say to FY08 even, let alone since more recently. USAF could arguably use a couple hundred low-hour fully operational capable modern variant F-16s right about now. That said, one could hope a new-build Block 70 F-16 would not require too many spares and high maintenance within it's first 3-4 operational years at least.
My basic outlook and view of the Gripen E overall however is very positive. And it's core engine used is not necessarily from Mars. I personally feel it's too early to really evaluate the E version vs a brand new Block 70, but I'll remain very pro-Gripen E for any potential AF acquiring it or evaluating it in the meanwhile. One particular asymmetrical strength it would seem to for one thing, would be it's greater potential for more austere airstrip and roadway operations, especially given it's small footprint. And ability for more remote austere operations is probably one of the underrated assets today, imho.
They make this, dubious meatballs, but cant make Saabs anymore. I loved the 93s and Aeros.

I was following Gripen as the dark horse in Canada's fighter competition. I think the F35 is the correct choice in a single fighter fleet for Canada, especially considering out traditional ties with the U.S.A. and NORAD Intercompatibility. That being said the short runway/arctic capabilities with the easy mechanical servicing of the Gripen E compatible with Canada's mission requirements.
Just 2 few F-35s would destroy 7-14 Gripens in no time....
It's not even a contest...
Single fighter fleet is very risky for various reasons. But yes, F35 is the ultimate polivalent fighter, though at a high price tag.
In the case of Spain for example who is looking for a replacement for their ageing F-18s I think the Gripen is more suitable than the F-35, as a bridge, while the next 6th gen european fighter is being developed, which could take easily 2 decades more.
