Agreed. And did you check the price on those? Now, even the poorest nation can purchase quality new warplanes. No longer need they accept previously owned equipment.
To correctly model the 39 you'd need tailor-made control algorithms as the aircraft uses all control surfaces available to achieve the input command from the pilot. This means for example that the airbrake on one side could be used in some situations when rudder input is given and the FCS deem it efficient to augment the rudder with it. The FCS can also point the nose in a desired direction briefly to achieve a firing solution, very useful when you need to get a quick firing solution in a fight like this, or if you want to strafe ground targets without losing altitude. None of the special capabilities of the 39 are possible to model in DCS. Only SAAB really knows how this machine behaves in the air. :-)
Example: The situation @12:45 the 39 could go extremely high-alpha and achieve a firing solution. At the cost of a tremendous amount of induced drag, but it matters little if you end the fight with the maneuver.
I undertand this is the case for all highly-unstable fighter aircraft, see Eurofighter, Rafale..

Suggestion: it might be interesting for you and your opponent to swap planes. One or two battles with you in one plane and then another one or two flights with you in the other plane. Then we'd get a better feel for the impact of the pilot skill versus the plane's abilities.

@@odinskugga7383 seems that way now. Hopefully ED will make the flight model of the viper more realistic. IRL it has a lot more nose authority and can be accelerating even through 9 g's. Still, both are super fun to fly even now
@@flashfire157 I mean that can be said for both of them, the Gripens flight computer is more like the F22s (that will say it will use whatever surface is most efficient to make the plane do it’s thing) and it maxes out at 12G, but Swedish Gripens have outperformed Norwegian F16s in practice

In AFP Modernization Program's Horizon III, The JAS-39 is more preferred than the F-16 when it comes to logistics and costs
Realworld, the Gripen has a cost per flighthour around 1/3 of the F-16 and a readiness, ie flighthours per day at around 2-4 times(airforce "normal" also matters). Groundservice team of 1 techie and 6 conscripts. IIRC, the F-16 needs 8 techies or something(don't quote me on that though, long time since i read about that).

You makes me wonder about your situational awareness indeed. It's so clear that when I look your clips I got it too. Sometime at certain points I loose myself looking other RUclips pilots not knowing anymore what they are aiming for untill I see it.

@@Cuccos19Each round would take less than a minute to end. JF 17 is not at the level of F 16 and Gripen bro. China developed it for mostly smaller third world air forces with limited budget, and it couldn't enter the Chinese Air Force itself. How can it compete with F 16 and Gripen? The ones that can't afford Typhoon, Rafale, Gripen, Su 35 or F 16 will go for that.
@@mnd7381 GS had a good opinion about that in - I don't know one or two circle fight - dogfight. But any aircraft could flew against each other in game - but even in real combat situation.
@@mnd7381 being cheap does not necessarily mean being inferior, it can easily just be an advancement in technology that allowed cost to go down. Check out the JF-17 block 3 specs and you will be surprised.
@@muyangcheng3874 why doesn't the Chinese airforce buy it then, when it made it? Its actual name is Xiaolong right? China has lots of Chengdu J7, Shenyang J 8, and I guess Nanchang Q5 too, if JF 17 is cheap and good, why not replace the outdated fighters, especially when it is trying to get more powerful, and as it counters USA, the oldest fighter USA has is older F15 and F16, who are tons better then J7.

@@odinskugga7383 man you come off like an ass. If you did some research, you'd see the F16 flight model is still under development. IRL the F16 can pull 9g and STILL be accelerating. It also has a lot more nose authority. I think the American engineers are doing fine considering countries around the world buy even their used aircraft. Also the F16 is still in service and has even been updated with modern avionics and weaponry. Lower your voice.
the gripen is a pretty sweet looking plane tho I especially like the slightly larger E model. the way it flies it reminds me of surfing
GS, it would be enlightening to me if you made a video quicky going over the most common modern fighters you fly with their attributes in 1 circ / 2 circ / BVR fighting. You talk about fighters in relation to their opponent often, but it would be cool to see an overview across all your commonly used fighters.

Bro this is so amazing! Two of my favorite 4th gen fighters going against each other, GS you don't know how much you made me happy... Gripen is my number 1 favorite 4.5 gen fighter, and the Viper is 3rd... Now, I want to see the Gripen go against my second favorite 4.5 gen fighter, which is the Rafale... I'm sure that the Rafale will provide a big challenge to the Gripen, given that Rafale is one of the most advanced 4th gen multirole fighter... @@ser43_OLDC Bro I know the Gripen is like the underdog in the European military aviation, but don't underestimate it, especially the E/F variant... It has one of the best electronic warfare suite of all 4th gen fighters, it also offers extreme situational awareness, and it has a better AESA radar than the Rafale... In addition to that, the Gripen has reduced RCS, and its small size makes it even harder to detect... So technically, in a BVR fight, the Gripen will be able to detect the Rafale and the Eurofighter first, before the two can detect it... Which means that it will be able to shoot first, and that is the most important in modern aerial warfare... Shoot before the enemy see you...
@@shinei98 I don’t know about that reduced RCS on the Gripen, but I’m pretty sure the Rafale does have some features focusing on reducing RCS, the Gripen is more a “cheap” point defence fighter with excellent aero design and a 12G max loading
@@kalle5548 The gripen indeed has reduced RCS, compared to other fighters like the F-16 or MiG-29 for example... And its also stealthier than the Rafale, for one because its smaller which makes it harder to detect, and 2nd, if you look closely, the Gripen actually has less round surfaces than the Rafale, and we all know that round surfaces are the worst design to use when reducing RCS, because round surfaces reflect radar to all directions... Just take a look at the air intakes for example, the Rafale’s air intakes have a round-ish shape, whereas the Gripen’s air intakes are sharp and defined... And I know that’s not all that makes a jet stealth, there are other factors (such as the size and the amount external payloads, stealth coating, etc), but you get the idea... Besides, both Rafale and the Gripen don’t use stealth coating because they’re not really “stealth” aircraft (unlike the F-35 or F-22), so technically, they’re both detectable on radar, its just that the Gripen is harder to detect than the Rafale, or even the Eurofighter for that matter, mainly due to its small size... And yes indeed, the Gripen is a cheap point-defense fighter, which makes it a very excellent choice for small countries with small military budgets...

IRIS-T is a all European Fox 2, with 180° off boresight capability. Yes it can theoretically hit targets behind your aircraft.

Damn! There 's no fighter more maneuverable than the F-16 in that class, in North America, including the CF-18. The Grippion is danger nasty.
It brings the problem of modern missiles,,even latest aim9x lack of throttle control,,still full powered once it launched.The relative speed is too high that turning rate of missile can't catch up.Think that if one day missile can adjust throttle to match up it's optimized turning rate profile automatically.

Hello, when you are in an air maneuver of 7g or more, it is not possible to move your head back to see where the enemy is. If you are going to simulate this type of combat, could you explain how it moves its head if it weighs 7; 8; 9 or 10 times more? Greetings from Spain.
There's an interview with a gripen pilot somewhere here on YT. According to him you basically cant move your head during high G manouvers

Question, on the offensive like when GS was about to fire his first ATAM why do you pop flares?
He has explained this in his previous videos. In one circle fights they pre-flare in order to confuse the fox 2 missiles. The combination of short range and flares makes it much less likely for a fox 2 to lock and track the target.

The Gripen is basically a Delta wing F-20 Tigershark with a sweet Swed touch and tech package = great fighter
F16 has big problems against Gripen. That has been tested many times in training dog fights, for example in red flag. Also tested against Norway who has a lot of F16. This quote from globaldefence:
"And no disrespect to any other fighters, including Norwegian pilots because they’re just as well trained, but during a combat exercise with the Royal Norwegian Air Force, 3 Swedish Gripens went up against 5 RNAF F-16’s. The Result was 5-0, 5-0, 5-1 after having flown 3 rounds."

The wing canard makes the Gripen turns quicker than than the Viper. If only the Viper's wing is moved back to where the elevators are, then pull out the elevator and put up front, right behind the pilot, it could have made the Viper more than a match to the Gripen. Or maybe if only give the Viper what it pioneered in the first place......the thrust vectoring.
that is the older Gripen C, not the E-model with strnger motor and veapons on the ving!
What does jamming the wes mean. What is a weapons employment zone and also how are the flares so effective against aim9x and iris t.
The WEZ is the weapons employment zone, essentially the minimum to maximum range of the missiles. Jamming the WEZ essentially means staying so close to the enemy that their missile physically cannot hit you, think of it like how boxers will get really close to each other so that they can’t get hit.
Flares are very effective against the missiles because they both are IR missiles, they track based on the heat of the enemy aircraft. A flare is designed to get really hot as it’s ejected out the back of the plane to make the missile track that and not the plane
@@RallyRallyRally truth is, most modern seekers have no problem separating the aircraft from the flare since flares, as opposed to the exhaust, also emit a visible light signature. Seekers that can distinguish between those have been in operation since the 80s, also with MANPADS like the Stinger. It's one of the fields where DCS isn't that accurate. Because some of the seeker stuff is still classified.

@@benoregan9016 it’s a combination of all of those factors, flares have obviously developed and gotten better so modern ones are hotter than ones from say the 60s but these are run of the mill flares

Gripen C vs Rafale or Eurofighter typhoon would be an interesting one.
The F-16 is an old platform. It has had a lot of upgrades, but mostly in regards to sensors, fire control and engine. All good for BVR. It is tough to significantly improve agility since that is dependent on the the plane form.

This is not the case. The latest block series F16 is essentially being completely overhauled. They've changed it structurally and it's getting completely new avionics. So much so I don't think it's being accurately represented atm in this simulator. Do your research for F16 service life extension program.

DCS is never 100% accurate. They have to use open source and the data will never be accurate unless the aircraft is old. As ageneral rule, militaries do not like to give away the exact spects of their equipment, especially new equipment. LOL
Often DCS do not even have the newest equipment, or at least official DCS mods.
However, I stand by what I say. It is difficult to significantly improve on agility without changing the plane form.
@@ycplum7062 I understand that. The F16 can't really do thrust vectoring. But at the same time it makes you wonder how the Pentagon could place an order for new F15s without some equalizing tech. Also the Israelis have heavily modified their F16. The only thing that F15s/F16s don't have (that the F22/F35 do) is thrust vectoring. Which might mean they can make kills without it. Enhanced radar and long standoff weapons could be one way. Not to mention everything is highly networked now too. So generals woke up and said one day, "you know what we really don't need thrust vectoring". Think about it. Maybe two planes working together tandem can provide missile target acquisition data for one or the other. Which would solve the problem of having to win a dogfight without thrust vectoring. Which the DCS (dogfighting) is primarily about. My somewhat educated guess.
