  • Wrestling Bios Presents - The Story of Harlem Heat
Before Booker T made his way to the WWE, he and brother Stevie Ray were Harlem Heat, a WCW tag team that had incredible success during their active years. While working in World Championship Wrestling, Harlem Heat would win the WCW Tag Team Championships a record 10 times, making Booker T and Stevie Ray the most decorated tag team in WCW history.
Things weren't easy for Harlem Heat before and during their WCW debut. After a rough upbringing and life on the streets, Booker T found himself in trouble. Stevie Ray suggested that his brother gets involved in pro wrestling, and it wasn't long before Booker and Stevie were teaming up as The Ebony Experience. When the brothers made their way to WCW, they debuted with a gimmick that didn't sit well with audiences and executives. Initially known as Kole and Kane, Harlem Heat would eventually ditch their initial gimmick and add Sister Sherri to the group while also changing their names to Booker T and Stevie Ray, and the Harlem Heat we all know was born.
In this mini documentary from Wrestling Bios, we take a look at The Story of Harlem Heat. Topics covered:
01:44 - The Early Days of Booker T and Stevie Ray
    03:33 - The Ebony Experience
    04:36 - Booker T and Stevie Ray
06:21 - The Harlem Heat WCW Debut
08:31 - Harlem Heat at WCW Hog Wild 1996
09:34 - Harlem Heat vs The Outsiders
11:03 - The infamous "We Comin For You" Booker T promo directed at Hulk Hogan
12:04 - Booker T wins the WCW TV Championship
13:36 - Harlem Heat adds Midnight to the group
    14:04 - Harlem Heat 2000
    and much more!

I loved watching Harlem Heat, especially Booker in WCW. Bookers matches with Benoit were top notch and Bookers "Harlem Hangover" finisher (front flip into a leg drop from top rope) was absolutely insane. He didn't do it very often because the move was so dangerous.

It’s not the Hall and Nash didn’t like HH they thought they were money. They were just shoot really good friends with the Steiners so they wanted to work with them at that time.

I think it was everything that kicked off between NWO Hollywood and NWO Wolfpac that prevented this matchup from being a big thing. Both tag teams were split between the two (I think Stevie Ray joined Hollywood right cause I know for sure Booker T. was red and black and Obv. Nash was leader of WP while Hall was Hollywood and/or in "Rehab"?). It was so long ago though so I hardly remember anything from then as I was in 7th-8th grade at the time.

I was a huge wrestling fan in the 90's and some of my favorites were Harlem Heat and Ahmed Johnson. Even though I was a kid and even though he was that fat I still cant believe I had no idea Ahmed Johnson was Big T until I discovered RUclips.

  • @bizil100

During the Nitro days, Harlem Heat got to face the teams like Steiners, Road Warriors, and Outsiders. And even the super team of Sting and Luger. So going against those legendary teams on PPVs ENHANCED their legacy. Before the Nitro days, WCW's tag division didn't have much in terms of true star power in the tag division. Besides Harlem Heat and the Nastys, most of the teams were makeshift teams. Or they were teams that couldn't really hang on a loaded tag roster. Harlem Heat PROVED they could be a major factor on a great tag roster during the Nitro days.
Harlem Heat looked they belonged with those teams. They weren't overmatched physically. And they had a stud in Booker T who even at that time was among the most exciting in ring guys in that 250-260 pound size range. When they added Sherri, that took them to another level as well. FOR SURE one of the top 10 tag teams of the 90's!
