I use a dumborc on a few of my cars after watching a driftomanics video. it disappeared off so far and still had control great tranmitter for the money with buit in gyro. Great vid kev.👍
I got that radio as well. seems fine. just missing steering and throttle exponential, and the gyro is causing the car to wobble alot unless it's turned down. The traxxas tsm gyro works perfectly though. But yeah, the dumbo radio isn't too bad. good value for the money and good range.
👍😉I'm so glad you demonstrated that the gyro actually works. I ordered that transmitter & receiver just yesterday for a cheap r/c that lacks range. When I read the specs on the DumboRC TX and receiver, I was a bit skeptical, but ordered one anyways, just to give it a try. At this price, I had nothing to loose since the receiver I'll be replacing only gives me about 80 meters. I was looking for longer range and I'm also getting a built-in gyro for (as you would say...) "dirt cheap!" LoL!!! Thanks, great job Kevin!!!
Hey kev. Use a spotting scope set up at around 100 meters, use a phone or iPad with the camera on as set up into the eye piece so he can see it easily. He can eye it on the launch then go to the spotting scope to see way down the track!!! 🤙🏼
Whack a bit of "plumbers gold" around that aerial cable through the case. It's a cross between silicone and glue, it's the dogs bollocks. And you'll still be able to get it back out if you want
Yep, I brought this remote, the version without the gyro for my brother's 90k/h 1 meter long RC boat. Where we live we have a lake with a high vantage point so you can easily drive it half a km away if you wanted to. I did some research and watched some reviews and found this one to be perfect for long range and it is! No more range glitching, this remote does do the 500m range as advertised and possiblity more. Silly name, awesome remote.
0:31 'Stood on the roof of my car' okay given the lambo you drive I'm impressed! (Lambo in cruise? Pat steering?) Hopefully dumborc does the job hard to beat for the $'s - I'm thinking about 20% on the gyro dial should be enough. Been out testing the 8S infraction tonight...
Way awesome, and how can anybody thumbs down 1 if your videos, personally I've enjoyed every video ever, guess they do have to suck or jelly, keep up the awesome work man
Just got the 4ch cheaper Dumbo and it is awesome too. Intended it for a cheap crawler but it ended up in my Outcast 4S to replace that ghod aweful stock Spektrum radio. Comes with 6ch receiver, range is stupidly long, no lag. Approx $20 US on Banggood
Those futaba radios have ridiculous range. I think I get around 1000ft on my 4pl. Big squid rc did an article on the different major transmitters out at the time comparing a lot of the specs.
Here is an easy solution for your range problems, get a range extender. Install it on that spectrum radio. I did it. You'll have unlimited range. I'm taking about a 2watt range extender. How does 5000 feet plus, sounds to you?
2 things to (maybe) improve this car... 1. the gyro should be in the back of the car 2. some bright color on the body, so it's more (easy) visible when far away
@@zevi2000 usually if a car looses grip it starts at the back of the car. and the more the gyro is moved from the center of rotation, the faster it can detect movement, because the momentum is stronger. I hope you understand what I am trying to say :D english isn't my first language and trying to explain physics isn't really easy for me xD
Get the rc6gs is a remote with a 6 channel reciver. And comes with a built in gyro in the reciever. It's not dirt cheap buts sure beats the price of a futabab .
On the traxxas controller you can adjust the little knob to activate a type of stability control and it makes the car easier to control and steer at high speed. Not being able to use that by using a different controller will make controlling the car much harder.
I started with racing quads and I'm shocked how underutilized fpv is in the the rc car truck community. The transmitters are horrible. There are transmitters that cost well over 500$ and only six channels wtf. All I ask is for a pistol grip style radio with a trainer port to use headtracking. I dont like swapping in and out the centering spring in my taranis to fpv my cars.
Hey Kev i would recommend you the hpi tf 40 transmitter and rf 40 receiver with 1 mod that you need to do to the transmitter just rip off the casing on the antenna of the transmitter and put a heat shrink on it so it doesnt move around and here is your more than 1/4 mile setup
Can you not use like a trainer set up? Two transmitters, 2 people and the master takes control halfway down the track. Solves the vision problem too. You may have to use normal transmitters not car ones. Orange receivers from Hobbyking are cheaper but work just as good i use them in planes. You can get a long range one with 2 ariels and even plug in satellite device. Just an idea.
@@KevinTalbotTV eg. 2x Spektrum DX6 transmitters with wireless trainer option. One becomes the master the other the slave. The slave has control up until the master (half way up the track) holds in the bind button of which then diverts control to his 'master' transmitter to continue the run. You would need verbal contact maybe walkies to copy the throttle postion.
Believe it or not I had the same lag problems with genuine Spektrum receivers. How I solved it? Chinese Spektrum compatible receivers lol. Funny how the knock off actually works better than genuine at a fraction of the price!
Why not stand on the banking at santa pod at the halfway mark...then its got good line of sight and you only go 200m each side of the TX rather than 400m away from the start point?!
For some odd reason, my Dumbo rc remote doesn't work properly with the vxl 3s system. the turning and forward throttle works great. It's just the reverse only works for a moment, then searches for a signal even if i recalibrate the esc and adjust the trim. Not like I need reverse that much, but it's still a weird issue I had.
Try the Radiolink AT10II. It goes very far. It doesn’t have a gyro I think but you don’t need one if you’re adjusting the toe correct. It will pull itself straight
Hey kev I am in need of a traxxas reviver temp sensor and the WiFi module for my e revo because I ripped the antenna and lost the end and I have a far larger motor so the temp sensor and the WiFi module would be perfect
Why dont you try the new noble nb4 controler you are going to unbox .its got amazing range and a signal strength in the top corner of the screen its hands down better than all the ones you tried. The XO1 deserves a good controller to make a fair race
Been doing speed runs on my slash 4x4 (modified) but running into cut out issues with the TQI transmitter. I'm running the telemetry expander kit from traxxas which plugs directly into that special port on the receiver. Kev could you recommend any transmitter receiver combo's that will give me more distance but that also works with the telemetry expander? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Not taking it out in the wet? But it looks like it would aqua plane so very well. I say 'Put some paddle tyres on it & try a 100mph+ water crossing'.... That would be an 'interesting' watch for sure.
why has it got a delay?... spectrum radio like on the other Arrma's now ... they also have delay issues but pretty sure we said it back when you complained about it water's right there Kev still not thirsty I see
I couldn’t trust a cheap system with such a fast car no way! Could you not have someone in the lambo controlling it or would the G force of being a passenger and controlling the Traxxas be too much?
Couldn't you stand at the half way point on the side of the track in the bleachers? This way at the starting point you will be 200m away in the middle and then it drives past you on the track to the finish line the other half of the 200m witch will give you the full 400m. That is if your going to an actual 1/4 mile track witch the starting tree should have lights on both sides so you could see them.
rc.obsession cheers dude, should be close, I need to have a play with the throttle profile first. Crashes were due to the throttle gyro turned up too much cutting the power and transferring weight forwards
Swap over towards airplane trans & receiver they go way further no need for testing as they are tested already and proven to go miles and no delays, anyways what ever works , any cliffhanger is good 💡
if you put an airplane spextrum radio in the car itll have 3/4 of mile range, but youll have to drive it with 2 stick transmitter....thats what i used bk in the 80s

I was just gonna say this too😂🤣
2:08 Kev says "I am going to loose the waterproofness but I'm not going to be using it in the wet anyway."

Those futaba radios have ridiculous range. I think I get around 1000ft on my 4pl. Big squid rc did an article on the different major transmitters out at the time comparing a lot of the specs.
You can use lithium batteries in the dumbo radio and run a bit higher voltage to get more range.
I've got a 3s lipo in mine Futaba 3 p.m.
And it can also hold up to 10 different models of the same remote you just have to get a different receiver for each rc.
im so excited for next video i cant wait to see the drag race :)
Put offroad tires on it or bash it in the skatepark

I seen a seller on eBay who has 3 of these xo-1 for $344 as rollers with bodies, I might have to pick one up n put in a killer system
yes
Do an unboxing and test run of arrma infraction 1/7 scale rc truck
The Radiolink RG6GS will reach 600 meters, and it has a Gyro built in it also has multi channel mixing so you can use it with a tank or boat
Both have the identical receiver i think one is rebranded if im not mistaken
Cant wait for the big race...
Was gonna tell you to try the new radio u got earlier since they claimed 500 meters.
I think its the radio link or dumbo rc
Which traxxas rc car do you like the UDR or E-Revo2.0
It's a good thing you thought about the radio range before the race, hope you get to race soon.
Something interesting about the spektrum receivers, is that there waterproof on their own. The pcb of the receiver is conformal coated.
