It's important to emphasize that you don't necessarily need to finish every game in your backlog, but to at least play them once and give them a fair shake. Some games I realized I just didn't like them and never wanted to play them again. So I would make my peace with that and move onto the next thing. If I like the game though, then I'll finish it.

I love the Dave Ramsey analogy. Gotta build up those small wins and then the momentum will get you through the rest of the games

It's not a bad way to look at it, but the reason it works well with debt is cause it frees up more money to deal with bigger and bigger sources of debt every time you deal with one. So the smallest one is done the fastest. Games that are sitting in your library aren't giving you "time debt" they are just sitting there and your amount of time to play remains the same. You don't suddenly get 4h extra in a month for finishing a 4h game.
This is still a good blueprint, but it isn't why the snowball method works with debt.

I cleared my backlog on multiple systems by simply leaving all my consoles in another country. Can’t play them, can’t see them, don’t think about them. Now I have one system and only about 4 games to play. Very refreshing.

Something else that might help is play games/series that are done and not likely to get sequels so that way once that series is off the backlog it's off for good.

I didnt feel like playing Metaphor on release day despite buying it right away. I forced myself to play and almost dropped it completely. I put it aside and played other things and after about a month i decided to try it again. Im now loving it! Do not force yourself to play!

The problem with starting small and moving big is at the back half of your backlog every game will be daughting. If I did that my shortest game would be 40 hours and I'll be month away from Elden Ring. I find a good mix of long and short keeps someone from burnout better. Imagine going from Elden Ring to Baulder's Gate 3 to Metaphor Refantazio. Those 3 games are over 300 hours of gaming (Main+Extras) lol. Almost a year at 1 hour per day.

I'm actually running into this issue right now. To get back into gaming, I played all of my shorter games over the last 2 years, and now all I have left are behemoth +50 hour games. Which ironically makes me not want to game anymore, just too much time and effort for all of those long games

my backlog method is this: cut down your list to 75 games, try to finish 2 games a month at least and if you get to the end of the month, just move onto another game- even if you haven't finished it.

I DID IT! I feel SO FREE! So I did what a lot of RUclipsrs Said, and I Uninstalled all of the games that I knew I would never play, and I had to be very honest with myself. Out of 444 games on Steam,,,(From buying bundles and games on Sale) any way, out of 444 games, I ended up with 57!!! hahahaa! I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER!

Now I got a question Buggy... why is Doom in the background of the copy for Black Ops 3 🤣 don't tell me you didn't notice that haha. It is very true tho, I have such a backlog of games. Some I've even been saving for RUclips to do a Let's Play! Maybe some of my new yearly goals will be to start up some series along with commentaries. Awesome strat guide!

Great video! As a serial multiplayer gamer, my backlog has ended up out of control, and it was only last month that I started clearing it. I'm trying to Platinum all of them on PS5, and am currently trying to do both CoD: Ghosts (Extinction is hell) and Fall Guys... both of which I'm so close to completing.

The only way to finish your backlog is stop buying games... or at least severely limit your steam sales purchases.
For about 2 years, I only buy games in the big sales events and limit myself by adding a fixed amount money to the wallet before the event. Forces you to buy only what you really want to play now. The rest may go to the wishlist to be considered in the next sale.
