The goal is to not “need your friends”. Be able to have fun alone getting into whatever it is you want to get into. Your friends will still be playing the new fun game and falling victim to that cycle. You can still join them from time to time, but remember that it is your time. Learn to enjoy it
I grew up in the era of only singleplayer stuff, most of my youth was N64, PS1/PS2, and had terrible internet. It wasn't until college that I got to really experience online gaming regularly. I think you're right, there is a HUGE crop of players that don't know how to find what they enjoy, just for them, and not what the hivemind is gravitating towards at the time ya know
Love this, it’s taken me a long time to realize that while yes it’s good to have games you can share with your friends, it’s also ok to just chill out and just play for you.
Incredibly relatable. My brother and his buds are always chasing that “trend” with games like CoD and other “new hotness” releases. I’m much more content spending my game time how I want and avoiding that death loop of gaming.
Why stress over games?. I own over 200 games on Steam, but I dont call it a BACKLOG. My games are a collection for my gaming library. Sometimes I buy games just to own and collect. I only have a BACKLOG on games I want to beat, not games I buy. Treat games like any other media. Movies, music, books, etc. There is an unlimited amount of content that cannot be consumed. Just enjoy what you like, and if you buy a game, it's part of your library, and there is no wrong way to consume it. If you own it, play with it however you like, guilt free.
Personally I have limited funds, so if I buy a game and it sits on a shelf then I'm going to feel like I wasted money. I've got backlogs in my head for movies, games, series, and albums in my head that I know I have to get to but the more new stuff comes out the further these things get pushed back. There's no way I'm going to just go pick all that stuff up and dry out my wallet just to look at a pretty shelf. It is a problem imo if you're funds are limited or even if you know your free time is getting lesser and lesser as you get older
@rapmetaldemon09 Hey buddy, I understand, but please realize it's all just a mental state. Music is my favorite media form. There are so many albums I've never heard, and a few I only like a few songs, not the entire thing. When I go eat out at restaurants sometimes I eat all my food sometimes I don't. My point is that there are many things that we spend our money on, and money is always tight. However, just because you bought something doesn't mean it's not appreciated if it's not entirely consumed. If you absolutely must consume the full amount of everything you buy, I suggest you control your spending by realizing you do not need to own it until you are ready to consume it. Unless it's a limited time thing, most media will be around for a long time. My fear for you is that you may have a form of OCD where you can't help yourself. Once you spend money, you MUST consume the media immediately. You are going to sincerely stress yourself because there is just so much shit to enjoy and not enough time in life to enjoy it. I wish you well, my friend. Life is brief. there is no need to stress over things we do to relax and be entertained. Enjoying media shouldn't be a job. Collect what you want, enjoy it when and how you want it and don't stress if you don't finish it, don't like it, or don't want it anymore. But that's just my 2 cents.
@GregoryWillis1031 Thanks for the very insightful response. I think you're spot on in alot of ways here. I may have some kind of OCD or something, but in my experience I do do exactly as you're describing. Just waiting to pull the trigger until I'm absolutely ready. Sometimes I may be ready to consume something specific, but I don't have access to it at the time. Which is what leads to me putting off buying and consuming it. I assume my problems may be linked to a fear of missing out on some perfect gems that are hiding out there. That I'm aging and my time is becoming more limited, meaning I may not get to everything I'd like to before I go or even just age out of that specific interest. It gets deeper when you start to question why you even like what you enjoy in the first place if there's likely something better out there that you're just missing out on. That your specific tastes are so subjective that they truly mean nothing at the end of the day and you're chasing nothing. When I was just a few years younger I could sacrifice hours of sleep every day to maintain enjoying my hobbies and still finding time to work. Now it's so exhausting and not worth the stress that I just give into the mundane reality of being a casual enjoyer. Yeah I should probably just go to therapy haha anyways thanks for the words of wisdom
THIS. I'm just happy to have some titles in my library! I don't understand people who feel having too much games is a bother ???? Even more for some games which could get delisted. Once you have those you sure to have them at least. Don't trust me ? Go watch the prices for the keys of Deadpool, Transformers, Guardians of the Galaxy Telltale or Shuffle! for example.
I had some great success with 3 things: 1. Made a spreadsheet tool to help me organize and prioritize the games I want to play, and mark complete, quit, play again, or which I've never touched. 2. Accepted that I don’t need to finish every game - sometimes 1 or 2, or even 10 hours is enough to know what the game offers or if I want to play to completion or leave it. 3. Change the way I play - I love my Steam Deck OLED, which has helped me play when/where and how I want to play, and leave my main PC for FPS and RTS. Having things more accessible has made it easier to spend my precious time efficiently and more enjoyably. The right controller or chair can make a difference too. Great video! I have watched a few of these recent ones, and really like the content.
Spreadsheets for game tracking is underrated. I really like having a comment where I track my thoughts on a game after completing it. This helps me disconnect from that game and helps pick my next one. For example, I played Marvels Midnight Suns and I put down while I enjoyed the story and wanted to see how it ended, the game play got way to repetitive. From that, I realised I got burn out and picked my games accordingly. As such, I played both Portals. Short games, each puzzle is different and unique and it was exactly what I needed.
I’ve really been enjoying the themes of your videos recently. Speaks to a lot of the things that I think about and it’s nice to hear that other people are thinking about it. I’ve become more aggressive and getting rid of games if I’m not enjoying them.
Dude, I just want to say that you are one wholesome guy. I watched this comfort games video, and I really needed that content at this point of my life. Things have been super hectic in my life as of late and your videos really helped me go back to enjoying my one of my favorite forms of escapism. I hope your existence continues being good for you and that you're super blessed.
I’ve really needed to hear this. I’ve been stressing over hobbies goals and work. I enjoy too many things and this perfectly explains my situation. Than you.
I keep overwatch and gta for my friends , but everything else is me finally enjoying my backlog of games . I recently finished fallout 3, NV , the halo McC , fable trilogy , the dark souls trilogy and mass effect trilogy for the first time . I’m currently playing Skyrim , fallout 4, then the metro series , Alan wake , The gears trilogy , and the hit man collection Yes I know I’m so late to these , but better late than never .
Im watched your content off and on based off the game i was into at time, but your words hold so much truth in these videos you have uploaded lately. There hitting home now have a new found respect and relize it isnt just me and i thank you for these videos.
Here is a practical approach to beating the backlog which has helped me. 1) make a list - I own a lot of games and most of it is free games which is not my style. I do not enjoy RPG, strategy games. So having a list really helps to narrow down to the games I want to play. 2) add additional information to list - game journalist, players score the games basis of how much fun it is. You would have paid money for some games, other you would have acquired for free. Some will be racing, some fill be fps, some has good story etc. Know how long it will take you to complete the main story. Have separate columns and provide additional information to your list. 3) Start crushing your backlog. 4) Allocate some time every day/ every week for gaming - You need to dedicate time to finish your backlog. (Optional: Or you can teach your spouce to game and watch him/her die multiple times to kill easy boss fights) 5) Avoid Multiplayer games - It will drain you of energy and time. You cannot focus on backlog, if you get stuck on same multiplayer game every time you boot up. 6) Keep them interesting - Mix Genre of games when you complete. example - If you enjoy stealth games. Playing stealth games one after another will bore you out of your mind. Once you finish a game, play a short game from another genre to refresh you. I have watched tons of videos on gaming backlog. This 6 step process is which I follow personally and worked for me. I hope you crush your gaming backlog too.
I have a massive backlog & wishlist on all my platforms (xbox, Ps5, PC). I just think of it this as games i know ill play eventually, you just need be in the mood.
i agree, i had persona5R for years and only finished it last year because i wasn't in the mood for shooters or hack and slash, i was in the mood for something a bit more chill, it was an amazing game
I've been massively overwhelmed with games on my PS5 for years. There's just so many. Thankfully I didn't buy any games for over 2 years which is a record for me (until Helldivers 2).
My advice for tackling your back log is to just start playing. I know it’s simple but it really is a snowball effect. You find one great game you love, play it, beat it, don’t overstay your welcome, and move on to the next. Before you know it you’ve knocked out 4-5 games in a week. Use How Long To Beat to manage your time and decided which games you want to commit to. And just commit. Play with your friends on the weekends and week days play your own game or however you want to rearrange your schedule. Just play your games. Beat them. And move on
i swear i find your videos at exactly the right time, i am currently in a little bit of a stalematr with gaming. I am really not sure what to play next. I need to finish elden ring, but just not sure what to play.
Thank you! Hows the Elden Ring journey going? I got stuck on it for a few years and just beat it a few days ago before the DLC. Loved it on the return but I definitely needed to find a build, when I played the first time I just was winging it and I made a really dumb build haha
I use dynamic steam filters: wall of shame (any game I have not even started) To finish ( anything started but not in the third list) completed it mate (Any game I'm happy to shelve) I have over 1000 games on steam I don't need anymore so now I don't buy them until I've added a couple to *completed it, I keep a head cannon of the games I want to complete. No more than 2 at a time (Currently AC4 and Witcher 3) with an MP game, usually arma 3. Also try and avoid service games like Forza or Destiny 2 I love them they're fun, but they are noodle games good for when you're sick or just need to zombie.
I love that system and am totally going to copy that for my spreadsheet. I love the wall of shame haha. Also yes.... the live service games and need to zombie is so accurate haha. Honestly I've pretty much checked out of most multiplayer FPS games at this point. Until something good comes along I just am over all of the live service slop
I do have a backlog of games, but I don’t have the same problem, with everything going on in the world, I want to play when things are better, and experiencing some games that had a lot of problems, I’m being careful of what I buy!
This is me right now but I’ve got summer holidays off with my new job as I work in a school now and I’ve been looking at how long some of my backlog games are and making a list of them and going to be going through them from quickest to longest and I have never played a dark souls and with every going on about Elden ring I want to try the first dark souls out, I’ve been dreading my gaming backlog but with all this free time which I haven’t had since I was younger is making me excited for gaming again
I'd suggest starting with Elden Ring and than going through every other Souls-like like DS1-3, Sekiro, Bloodborne etc since Elden Ring can be as hard/easy as you want it to be. On the other hand Dark Souls is a lot shorter than Elden Ring. Also don't worry about finishing your backlog, it will only stress you out more imo.
Great video honestly. The backlog struggle is real. I tend to switch between new releases, the multiplayer game with friends and a specific game on my backlog. Right now that's Elden Ring DLC, Siege & Uncharted. Sometimes I have weeks were I mostly play multiplayer games & sometimes I go days where I only touch singleplayer games. If you have friends that have different tastes in games, I highly recommend using Steam Family share (beta). I prob never would've tried Yakuza, Monster Hunter, Resident Evil etc, but now that I can try them for free through my friends I got plenty to try (and maybe finish). The reason I don't use Gamepass is bc of this. If there is a game some of us are interested in, one will buy it and we can all eventually play it. No rush to try every new thing since we got plenty to play. Don't worry about finishing everything in your backlog, it will only stress you out imo.
My backlog is my wishlist. I only buy games (or "move them" into my actual backlog) if I find them extremely cheap somewhere, or if I run out of things to play.
I’ve got a big backlog and picking the next game to play can be tough, but once I pick one and start it, I only play that game until I’ve beat it. That helps. This only applies to single player games. I still play a lot of Halo haha. Once I hit max rank in MCC, which will hopefully be by the end of the year, I’ll have more time to devote to my backlog. I’ve beat 11 games this year so far using this method. Also as an accountant who has a spreadsheet for my backlog, I feel personally attacked by this video haha.
Sorry sorry haha, the accountant approach is definitely wise, and I know a lot of people who vibe on a dialed spreadsheet. I just sometimes get mega overwhelmed when I try to build one out. Yoooo getting max rank on MCC is going to be a huge accomplishment, congrats in advance!!!
It is because I have paid for so many of them and don't want to feel like I've wasted my money even though it has been years since I purchased a lot of them.
My library has most of the games that I played and completed earlier (using other “ ways”). I couldn’t afford games then, after getting a job now, I’ve been buying those older games on steam along with the newer ones.
+ the problem with these new titles most of the times is that they’re launched with bugs and are incomplete (Not all of them but most). So we tend to pause playing until those bugs are fixed and some of them take forever enough to make you forget about the existence of that game 😢
For me, a lot of it i think is steam itself. The layout shows my entire library on the left. Which is almost overwhelming at times. I added shortcuts of my last 10 games and have them on my desktop. A variety of genres to try and stick to those instead of looking at all 260 games i own and struggling to pick one.
Coincidentally, I started keeping a OneNote of games that interest me with release dates, and another page with games that I've completed and when, and another page for games in progress and what system they're on, and lastly a list of my backlog of games. I needed to get organized so that I could just relax and enjoy the best game for the moment. I kept feeling like there was something I was forgetting.
This topic resonates with me a lot. I don't buy "Humble bundle" games so I don't have that bloat that a lot of people do on Steam, but I did (at one point) overbuy all those classic epic games that I know are good and "I'm going to play one day" but they're still waiting for me to play them. Bioshock Remastered collection as an example. I've never played Bioshock, I know it's good but I just haven't gotten to it yet. I used to feel this "I should buy this awesome game because it's awesome and it's on sale" but it went away as my backlog grew. That being said, over the last 2-3 years I stopped buying a lot of games on sale, because I already own a lot of the all time classics, so I just skip steam sales unless a handful of the specific titles I want are on there. Or I tell myself "Hey, it's a SP game. You can always buy it next time, it's not going anywhere. You have enough". Btw, what is this "Friends who play" thing you speak of? I don't have that. All but one of my gaming buddies have either quit gaming because of kids and marriages or are "Last seen online 1500 days ago" 😢
I relate with that classics thing SO much. I have a lot of collections that I haven't touched but need to. In general I'm pretty disciplined on sales and don't purchase much. With the RUclips channel I do try to play/explore more than I probably would if I wasn't uploading.
Yeah this is me. Steam wishlist + buying games only on a heavy sale + keeping track of everything I started but not yet finished. The only thing that makes me sad and sometimes gives anxiety is that the backlog is really huge and it keeps getting bigger. I don't have the issue with playing a game years later after the release, in fact sometimes I do prefer that, because you can get a Definitive Edition, all DLCs and patches, sometimes nextgen update or even a remaster. But man, I have 700+ games on Steam and 400+ in wishlist, and I really would've wanted to play at least a hundred of them right now. But of course I don't have that much time, and I never will.
Do a library list, and then a Backlog list on Steam. Put on the backlog list the games that you want to play now. Look at the purchased games as an archive, it is good to have them in case you want to play and if not, leave it there no problem. I have like 200 games unplayed. Of which I want to play at most about 40. And right now I'm playing Shadowrun Dragonfall, a game that I have already COMPLETED... But it's what I want, you have to do what you want. And I know it's hard to leave behind that feeling of I bought all this... Something that also relieves it is deleting games. I have removed some games from my library that I got for free that doesn't interest me in the slightest. And sometimes I do it even with games that I have gotten from a bundle. I look at them carefully and think, do I really want to play this?
Keeping a Spreadsheet of my backlog felt silly at first. but I've been doing it for 2 years and it changed the way i buy & play games. I play a lot more diverse Titles that I'm interested in and I play a lot less multiplayer live service crap.
I have something of a game rotation system basically I’ve played a lot of game and have completed a ton of them that I’ve came to a conclusion that I just like replaying my absolute favorites over and over.
Most of my Steam wishlist are Early Access games or not yet published. I've avoided pre-buying or buying EA simply because I have no time to deal with an unfinished game, knowing I will get tired of it long before the official 1.0 version comes out. The bought but unplayed games, yes, it's a significant list. Will have to start whittling away at it.
The best thing I did for me to play backlog is quitting multiplayer games aside from mmos (although I play mmos like single player games) it’s crazy how much time I have for backlog since multiplayer games takes hundreds of hours and you don’t feel the same satisfaction you get from finishing single player games , like I have over 4,000 in hours in dota 2 and 700+ hours in Overwatch and 2,000+ in cs go and god knows how many thousands of hours in all of the cods since mw2 2009 , imagine if I played single players games instead of these multiplayer games I would’ve completed every game I ever wanted to play
Yeah, I'm pretty checked out from multiplayer FPS games right now. I may hop in here and there, but until there is something REALLY good, I just want to go experience solid games that don't have the live service slop and fomo drip nonsense
Would love to hear more just about life and gaming in general. Also, it’s cool to see a variety of games in the background and get inspiration from them to try something out. Would it be hard to put a watermark of the game name over the top of the gameplay so it’s easy to find whatever you’re playing on screen?
Thank you very much. I meant to list all the games in a pinned comment but life has been crazy busy. As such though, here is a list of all the game footage I used in this video (pretty much in order of appearance): Metro Exodus Mass Effect 2 Metal Gear Solid V Helldivers 2 Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin Forza Horizon 4 Gears of War Ultimate Edition Portal 2 Dragon Age Origins Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Cyberpunk 2077 Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition Monster Hunter World Far Cry Blood Dragon Bastion Gears of War E-day Expedition 33 Mixtape Doom The Dark Ages Black Ops 6 Metro Exodus Smash Ultimate Metro Last Light Redux Bioshock Doom 2016 Half-Life 2 Borderlands 3 Far Cry 5 PUBG Superhot Persona 5 FFXII Horizon Zero Dawn Wolfenstein Rage Shadow Warrior Halo MCC Gears of War 4 Vanquish Dark Souls Bayonetta 2 Cod 4 remastered The Division MGS Rising Revengeance
Just discovered your channel. Love the calm voice over to gameplay and chill music. Awesome videos to put on in the background while I’m getting stuff done. Would love to see more discussion videos like this one. Subbed :)
I've made a sort of flexible rule for my backlog: If I like one game in a franchise I'll stick with that franchise usually. Helps a bit bit still. I purposely *only* get games on sale. This year I actually decided to make experiencing new games my new year's resolution. I spent years console locked and only got into pc last year. Needless to say I've had some amazing experiences. My favorites being: Og RE4 S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl Devil May Cry 1 DmC Devil may cry Also tbh I'm irritated I spent 7 bucks on Content Warning to play with friends and we hardly play it
I couldn't have afforded great PC for years since recently and biggest irony is that I have huge pressure with finishing games to have only 1 game to play (or none at all before new game arrives). Even on old PC I have been having same problems and even now I'm in the same place. I have other hobbies as well and I still have a lot of games which I want to play. I don't know what to do about that. Funny thing is I'm not even playing everything good, just titles and genres which I love but problems are staying the same.
One way is to set a hard budget for video games per year, for me I choose SGD $120 Steam wallet(which is USD $88, or whatever is the highest Steam wallet funds you can add), and once I ran out, that's it, I ran out, just wait till next year to top up. So I can just focus on the few games I have and enjoy them as much as I can, and well, I think another thing is your issue is flawed IF you're the type to play those hot new multilayer games, for me I usually play those single player games that may have Co Op, because well, I'm sick of PvP and Co Op also depends on time availability due to work, life, timezones, whether you even want or even able to play at all for that day (because you might end up sick, injured etc)
It's hard to know if it's just a rough point in the game, if it will get better, or if you just don't like it. For me, I've tried to beat Final Fantasy 12 like 8 times... and I always fall off. I'm a huge fan of FF7, FF8, FFX, but 12 just... I've comet to accept the fact... I don't like it and have put it down.
@BBKDRAGOON i love advance wars and have tried to play fire emblem a few times now but it just doesn't compare at all idk what it is but I can't get into fire emblem
If you found a game with a good discount, you’re remotely interest and have licensed music, characters or dlc. Buy it. It’ll be deslited in 10y and when it’s gone you’ll regret it. I’m very lucky mvc2 is back. Lollipop chainsaw ost on the other hand…
I use Playnite to see all my games in one place and divide them in categories, and good old excel to list all games I want to play with their How Long to Beat times. It's been years since I bought a game, this process made me very critical of the games I buy, I know I only have time for the best of the best.
Dragon Age Inquisition took me 5 or 6 years to finish, just playing it on and off. It's a good game but it's so drawn out if you're a completionist like me lol. Eventually finished it (and all the DLC) though and don't regret it one bit. COVID lockdown and furlough pay really helped get it done lol.
TL/DR: There is too much stuff to consume in any media and we only have so much time. You WILL miss out, so you might as well just play what you feel like and stop caring about a backlog altogether. Like a wise person once said "Ain't nobody got time for that". I hate having a backlog because it feels like there is unfinished business. It's not a good mindset to have fun, but it's also difficult to break out of it. So what I've been doing to battle this, is to stop buying new games until I have finished what I already have on my plate. There will always be a sale, there are always sites that sell gamekeys for the same price (if not lower) and there will always be a good offer for a physical copy (if you're on console), especially as time goes on. So there is no need to stress over getting a good price if you think you're missing out. At least in theory 🌚 Also, there is nothing wrong with buying that hot new game if that's what you want to play. At least it doesn't make your backlog bigger. And sometimes it's okay to admit that you've spend money on something you will never make use of.
I don't game with my friends. I usually beat games or stop playing if I'm not enjoying. I don't really have the money anymore to buy alot of games. So I usually at least try the ones a buy. I use tovnot care when I was a kid then I realized that I need to be more responsible.
Total brainfart at 3:39, I've played all of the Metro games and DLC out there but I can't recognize that part??? I looks like beginning of Exodus? Is it some alternative route before getting Aurora?
Beat BG3 a couple months ago, tried to clean up some of the backlog...completed zero...added even more to the backlog during the steam summer sale...decided it was time to finish those backlog games...started another BG3 playthrough instead 😅 Im doomed.
The one game that makes me reconsider finishing my backlog is Control. I pushed through Control and the ending is so bad I feel rip-offed even though it was a free Epic giveaway. I should play games I enjoy, and not feel pressured into finishing what I've started, it's a sunk-cost fallacy. Would you push through a bad book you know it's gonna suck for 400+ more pages? Same thing.
I have over 100 games that i've yet to play/finish, but it's not like it makes me feel guilty, it's more about the fact that i just don't feel like playing them anymore, nowadays i get easily bored of most games, with only a few that manage to hook me up enough to finish them. It's a shame cause i know i have quite a lot of great games to play, but i just don't feel like playing them
I know that feeling a lot. Sometimes a solid break from gaming can help with this one. Stepping into a new/different hobby can create a really refreshed feeling when you return
I'm like that as well, the only game that i'll be committed to play nowadays is the trails series because i'm invested in the overall story. But for most other games i'll only play for a few hrs then drop it entirely and not look back.
I challenged myself to finish three campaigns I owned before I got a Call of Duty game I'd been wanting. In the end the finishing the first three was probably more than the new game I got. 😅
When i was younger and poor and didnt have internet, i would have to play the same games over and over again. Ever since then i would just keep stock up on games so that if i ever went back to that life again i would atleast have hundreds of games to play. But now that im an adult if i ever got to that point in life i doubt i would have time to be playing games so now it all seems wasted because there is 0 chance i can get time to play through them all 😢.
My most common mistake when i pick games i pick too big games like Pathfinder WotR, GTA5 or Fallout 4. Also im big fan of co-op games like Monster Hunter, Vermintide, Deep Rock Galactic, Helldivers etc but literally have no time to play this games with friends :(
If one is stressed out over games, backlog or not there is definitely something wrong. Whatever you play and on whatever device you play, this is supposed to be fun, if it is not, better go out and do some sports lol
I know this is different, but I’ve essentially been doing the same thing with Gamepass! I just played Gears of War for the first time it was awesome! I’m worried that Microsoft is gonna make the service more expensive, so why not play the titles while they are there haha
yeah man... That's me.. having so much games on my wishlist rn Steam Summer sale is like: WOOOOH 50% off !!! And at this point.. i'm just.. naah man, i have still so much games in my library that i haven't even touched.. Witcher 3, horizon, metro, God of War 2018.. just a few of them.. can you believe that?!?! haha i think i skip the next few years of sale till i have played them loool
If i find a interesting game, i will 1.st pirate it. If its good i will buy it, if its trash its a no loss (cant be bothered with steam to get money back). This prevents me from having a gaming backlog overall. Also i barely buy anything from steam sale as there is usualy a lot of trash i dont care abauth. Also main issue is that a lot of games come out un-finished this days and they trow shitload of DLCs that should be in normal game overall. Or come with anoying program that slows down and destroys game performance. But a good way to save a lot of money is to find a game with good mod support, as people who have fun with it, also upgrade it.
I appreciated games more in Sega days as building a library was harder, I must have had 50 Genesis games and most of them got played, the bigger my Steam library gets the less I play, where's the logic? Maybe it's a human failing, an abundance of choice leads to indecision.
I hate early access and early advertising. Game releases are always in the future but I am in the now. I'm constantly waiting for games to be finished and released. By the time they are released they seem lame becasuse of the even newer demos. It's a trend that betas turned into alphas and pre-alphas lately and kickstarting games is a thing as well. We pay for a product that does not exist. What's next? Be the developer for 50% off? Raise a fund so they present you and idea of a project that could be a video game in a decade? 7 days to die 1.0 was released this year after ~13 years of development. I was already bored of that game by the time it came out! ...plus it looks 20... I never buy games for the full price. I'm not in a hurry. The supply is great, but we control the demand.
Do all of us gamers fall under the same umbrella, and make the same mistakes? lol I’m happy to know I’m not the only dumbass who buys more than they can play, but still… are there any responsible gamers out there!?
Too many people live with FOMO and it's pathetic. Games don't go anywhere..... They don't sell out. I am 44, i used too be one of these morons that got a game every time it was released, if it was new or it looked good.... I bought it. That was when most of my purchases were physical. However, about 7 years ago, i quit buying physical, because you just A. Need too make so much room for all your games B. You buy too much crap in bargain bins or in used stores like CEX. Since i went all digital, i have saved so much money, i even feel it. I only buy games i 100% know are good or i want. Any other game, i wait for trusted reviews or deep, deep sale. I own a SX, PS5 and PC.... I have no more than 4 games running at any one time. That is either CoD and Tarkov Then a couple of solo campaign games. I make it a rule that i never buy another game, until i fully complete one. You save so much money and your focus is kept on the games you play. If you are over 18 and you have no self control or you just can't stop yourself from clicking the 'buy' button, just because a game is on sale, then you are pretty pathetic.
The goal is to not “need your friends”. Be able to have fun alone getting into whatever it is you want to get into. Your friends will still be playing the new fun game and falling victim to that cycle. You can still join them from time to time, but remember that it is your time. Learn to enjoy it
*Facts. I never understood the weird obsession to need friends to play video games in order to have fun. Loser mentality if you ask me.*
Really tho? I love playing games with my bros and chillin on my own too. I may have misunderstood correct so correct me if I'm wrong@Dadee3
Incredibly relatable. My brother and his buds are always chasing that “trend” with games like CoD and other “new hotness” releases. I’m much more content spending my game time how I want and avoiding that death loop of gaming.
Look at me. Instead of playing my backlog I am watching a video how to play my backlpg
"There are no good games anymore"
My backlog: nuh uh
Needed to read this lol
Love these videos you've been doing recently.
Thank you! They are a lot of fun to make, I incredibly appreciate the support as making these types of videos brings a lot of joy
I had some great success with 3 things:
@KBorePC that's a great point. I need to journal more in general, but a Comment cell may help spur some thoughts and reflection. Great tip!
I have even better advice - ONLY buy games when you are ready to play them. Dont buy games with the intent of playing later.
“And you gotta look at yourself” I kind of appreciated you expressing that kind of personal time/financial responsibility
I’m currently playing Skyrim , fallout 4, then the metro series , Alan wake , The gears trilogy , and the hit man collection
Yes I know
I’m so late to these , but better late than never .
Golden Age of gaming right here
Im watched your content off and on based off the game i was into at time, but your words hold so much truth in these videos you have uploaded lately.
(Optional: Or you can teach your spouce to game and watch him/her die multiple times to kill easy boss fights)
5) Avoid Multiplayer games - It will drain you of energy and time.
Solid way to do it, honestly waiting for sales and being disciplined to buy used or on sale can help save SO much money over the long run
i agree, i had persona5R for years and only finished it last year because i wasn't in the mood for shooters or hack and slash, i was in the mood for something a bit more chill, it was an amazing game
Cyberpunk is definitely one of my most favorite games that has recently come out, definitely is a game I will always remember as I get older
I've been massively overwhelmed with games on my PS5 for years. There's just so many.
Thankfully I didn't buy any games for over 2 years which is a record for me (until Helldivers 2).
Nowadays I have more patience reading a book than trying to finish a singleplayer game.
Watched a few of your videos and they've really been helping me be a more focused gamer, i thank you
Tell me about it, I've rebought games on Steam that I bought on PS3/PS4 and STILL have not touched them yet!
it's crazy right?!
this channel is amazing and speaks directly to me
My advice for tackling your back log is to just start playing.
@@BBKDRAGOON well im on the last boss haha, the elden beast but just could never beat him. i am running rivers of blood
I use dynamic steam filters:
wall of shame (any game I have not even started)
To finish ( anything started but not in the third list)
completed it mate (Any game I'm happy to shelve)
I have over 1000 games on steam I don't need anymore so now I don't buy them until I've added a couple to *completed it, I keep a head cannon of the games I want to complete.
Amazing and relaxing content, like talking to a friend in the backyard at 4 in the morning ☺
Duuuuude Dark Souls 1 is AMAZING! Honestly it's SO good and I think well worth it. Very different from ER, and in good ways!
I needed to hear this one, first couple seconds explains me 😂
thank you
Such an underrated channel
Great video! Gaming shouldn't feel like a chore! Just play what you feel like playing no matter what others think!
I bought HL:2 in 2005, played & finished it in 2023!! Wow, what an experience!
HL:Alyx VR? Amazing!!
Just came across your channel. Thank you for your words of wisdom and encouragement! I subscribed and look forward to more videos!
Please don’t stop making these kinds of videos man !
Your videos put my thoughts on screen then improve significantly thru your words. Great content bud!
Really connecting with these new video styles BBKDRAGOON !!
My wishlist is at 100 rn, I've got like 5-6 games of backlog. I'm already sweating because steam sale comes in 3 days
Yooo, I gotta catch up, I haven't added anything yet. Can you believe it's already the middle of the year?!
@@BBKDRAGOON there's mouth watering sales my bro, how can we resist 😂
5-6? Between Steam, Epic and Uplay I've got +50 lmao
My steam wishlist is at 587 ...
@@TheLazyFinnBruh... How many of those do you rly want to play?
These videos are making me want to play Metro Exodus. The last game I beat from front to back is Metro Last Light
My wishlist grows faster than I'm able to buy the games 😭
I love the library list idea, that's a great option, I am going to try that. Thank you!
I love making lists. I may never use it, but it feels good nonetheless
Keeping a Spreadsheet of my backlog felt silly at first. but I've been doing it for 2 years and it changed the way i buy & play games. I play a lot more diverse Titles that I'm interested in and I play a lot less multiplayer live service crap.
hey since you played a bunch of games, what game is being played at 1:03 ?
@@JohnnyB4 dragon age?
As such though, here is a list of all the game footage I used in this video (pretty much in order of appearance): Metro Exodus

Just discovered your channel. Love the calm voice over to gameplay and chill music. Awesome videos to put on in the background while I’m getting stuff done. Would love to see more discussion videos like this one. Subbed :)
I've made a sort of flexible rule for my backlog:
If I like one game in a franchise I'll stick with that franchise usually. Helps a bit bit still.
I purposely *only* get games on sale. This year I actually decided to make experiencing new games my new year's resolution. I spent years console locked and only got into pc last year. Needless to say I've had some amazing experiences. My favorites being:
Og RE4
S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl
Devil May Cry 1
DmC Devil may cry
Also tbh I'm irritated I spent 7 bucks on Content Warning to play with friends and we hardly play it
I couldn't have afforded great PC for years since recently and biggest irony is that I have huge pressure with finishing games to have only 1 game to play (or none at all before new game arrives).
What game is being played at 1:56?
I think it's called far cry blood dragon
Ive just started not playing games that i dont enjoy
It's hard to know if it's just a rough point in the game, if it will get better, or if you just don't like it. For me, I've tried to beat Final Fantasy 12 like 8 times... and I always fall off. I'm a huge fan of FF7, FF8, FFX, but 12 just... I've comet to accept the fact... I don't like it and have put it down.
@BBKDRAGOON i love advance wars and have tried to play fire emblem a few times now but it just doesn't compare at all idk what it is but I can't get into fire emblem
advance wars was so good! GBA days were amazing
Or sometimes you like certain aspects of the game but not others and part of you wants to see it through but part of you doesn't@@BBKDRAGOON
5:13 that's pretty much why I quit Alien Isolation despite enjoying it. It felt more like work and it was a bit frustrating
At least in theory 🌚
Also, there is nothing wrong with buying that hot new game if that's what you want to play.
This year i bought steam deck from sale to help me with my backlog not new games to made it worse and im little proud of myself 😁
Jokes on you, I don't play multiplayer games, my Steam library has exploded regardless
haha I hear that
Total brainfart at 3:39, I've played all of the Metro games and DLC out there but I can't recognize that part??? I looks like beginning of Exodus? Is it some alternative route before getting Aurora?
Beat BG3 a couple months ago, tried to clean up some of the backlog...completed zero...added even more to the backlog during the steam summer sale...decided it was time to finish those backlog games...started another BG3 playthrough instead 😅
Im doomed.
3:59 as someone who also likes to read that hurt
6:53 about my comment about Alien Isolation, that's actually what I decided. A "maybe I'll come back."
Same thing.
No time like a present. So i usually buy what i wanna play RIGHT NOW. And surprisingly i spent less money this way. No backlog as well which is great.
I like that a LOT!
What is that shooter title at 1:50?
Also im big fan of co-op games like Monster Hunter, Vermintide, Deep Rock Galactic, Helldivers etc but literally have no time to play this games with friends :(
Even games I love a lot I will get bored after the 30 hour mark
What game are you playing at 8:18 ?
If one is stressed out over games, backlog or not there is definitely something wrong. Whatever you play and on whatever device you play, this is supposed to be fun, if it is not, better go out and do some sports lol
I know this is different, but I’ve essentially been doing the same thing with Gamepass! I just played Gears of War for the first time it was awesome! I’m worried that Microsoft is gonna make the service more expensive, so why not play the titles while they are there haha
Moral of the story. Don't have friends.
Mission complete
What is that shooter game at 8:20? wanna buy it on summer sale? xD
No, fr, whats the name of the game?
Remember gents if you don’t enjoy it don’t force yourself.
I have way too much important life stuff to do to feel guilt from not playing random games I barely care about
Yeah, I didn't really talk much about it but definitely IRL priorities take precedent over all of this
Remember if it’s on sale now it will be on sale again shortly.
I still haven't played Elden Ring. Bought it day 1 but I know how special that first playthrough is gonna be and I just keep putting it off 😓
It's going to be so epic!
I have no friends though...😢
i recommend GOG instead of Steram
yeah man...
That's me.. having so much games on my wishlist rn
Steam Summer sale is like: WOOOOH 50% off !!!
And at this point.. i'm just.. naah man, i have still so much games in my library that i haven't even touched..
Witcher 3, horizon, metro, God of War 2018.. just a few of them.. can you believe that?!?!
haha i think i skip the next few years of sale till i have played them loool
me watching this with 0.04 in my account... XD
I just need more time😫
I appreciated games more in Sega days as building a library was harder, I must have had 50 Genesis games and most of them got played, the bigger my Steam library gets the less I play, where's the logic?
However, about 7 years ago, i quit buying physical, because you just
A. Need too make so much room for all your games
That is either CoD and Tarkov
Then a couple of solo campaign games.
I make it a rule that i never buy another game, until i fully complete one.
You save so much money and your focus is kept on the games you play.
If you are over 18 and you have no self control or you just can't stop yourself from clicking the 'buy' button, just because a game is on sale, then you are pretty pathetic.
