  • Recorded in a rather echoey Chicago green room, Klaus Tennstedt here discusses Mahler's fourth symphony with Norman Pellegrini, programme director for WFMT radio in Chicago from 1953 to 1996.
They compare the sinister gypsy violin in Mahler's 1st symphony with the devilish second fiddle (tuned a whole tone higher) played by the concertmaster in the 4th's second movement, and finally voice their admiration for Arleen Auger's perfect fourth movement portrayal of the innocent child.
