Still interesting to watch Martin as I have been, there’s always something to learn from someone else and sometimes you forget how to do something (well I do anyway, seems to be getting worse as I am getting older😱🤦🏻♂️) so I have been enjoying your tutorial videos even though I haven’t always commented on them all, it’s great that you are taking the time to make these videos for everyone and I am sure that all of us that watch them appreciate very much what you are doing, thanks for the videos Martin!👌👍😊 Take care, all the Best, Nick.
Caustic is the most dangerous but most effective method, so I only work outside with it: it is a pain having to carry the kettle outside, but better than risking splashes and fumes. The caustic soda is not so clever on acrylics, though and I have found that whilst some acrylic paint will come off, it sometimes needs a follow up with stripper gel as well, especially if you have had a paint finish go wrong on you, so you have to start again! Great little tutorial, thanks!
Great video , Martin. This once again shows that there is no golden mean for paint stripping. In most cases, caustic soda works great, but I have had such paints that could not be removed in any way with soda or a chemical paint remover, it was mechanically expensive. Regards
Thanks Paul, I agree some paint can't be removed with costic soda so it goes in the stripping jar for 24 or 48 hrs . It is time consuming. Have a enjoyable holiday my friend and thanks for all your support from the beginning its really appreciated 👍
Cheers Ian, yes thought I would rattle of a few of the shorter biggners guide videos as thay were quick ones ,normal restoration in the morning. All the best martin 👍
Another awesome video and production for the beginner or even us old blokes who forget things 🤣🤣👍 doing great with this series Martin appreciated cheers KC 🇦🇺🇦🇺🤝🇬🇧🇬🇧😎🙂👍
A great idea giving a refresher courses Martin on restoration of die cast vehicles 👍, learning safety, and useful tips, like you said whether it be a beginner or a seasoned veteran in the hobby, a person can always learn something new or a different approach to the project at hand. Your a good teacher my friend, take care & Merry Christmas 🎄🎁🎅🏻to you & your family.👋😎🚘🚗🚙
Yes mate protect the old mince pies ,might have a go next year I want to do a code 3 dinky Atlantean a kind of what might of been ,cheers mate ,mark 🎅🏼🤶🏻🧑🎄
Thanks for another informative tutorial Martin, I'm really appreciating you making these videos. I use the caustic soda method of paint stripping, boiling water in first then slowly add caustic, simply because You, Bob and Nick seem to have decent results with it. Could you please share the link for the Marie paint brushes please. Have a great Christmas, stay safe and all the best. Peter.
Thanks Peter, yes your doing it right with the sodo, I don't know how to do links. But the sellers name on ebay is biety0315 £7.99 with free postage. 6pcs/set Hope this is ok . Have a great Christmas break Peter and your family 👪
Hi ,I brought this as a complete spray booth for modelers of ebay or amazon, if not the fan can be an standard extractor fan for a kitchen or bathroom, some people use computer cooling fans and a plastic or cardboard box . I hope this helps. All the best martin 👍
Thanks again, the brand of drain cleaner with caustic soda in the yellow bottle do sell caustic soda only, its sold by me but in a blue container I made the same mistake. happy Christmas to you and family.
Thanks Tom , iam not sure to be honest, if you are going to try it put the metal in the costic after it has reacted and cooled a bit just incase. Sorry I can't shed any more light on this one . All the best martin 👍
Very important safety first, if you don’t have a extractor fan in a enclosed space like a shed keep the shed door wide open, is it advisable to have a fire bottle near by too ?
You say that when using caustic soda you can apply the caustic soda first and then add boiling water - I have always believed that doing things in that order is potentially dangerous as the heat caused by adding the water can create an almost explosive reaction, while adding the caustic soda to the water is relatively safe as long as it is done carefully - as you demonstrated.
Hi David if you dump the boiling water over the caustic soda all at once yes you'll have a reaction that can be quite dangerous but if you add small amounts of boiling water you can control the amount of reaction better. I use the caustic soda first method. Cheers Michael
Yes I was just showing you the different methods people use ,I do prefer the costic soda after the hot warter . But both methods need great care . Thanks for the valid comment its much appreciated my friend 👍
Excellent as-always, Martin!

Yes you are right I some times find i have to dip it in the stripping gell if the caustic doesn't move it .

Help to people on caustic soda. I started using an aluminium pressure cooker & the soda ate thru it. Steel containers are best
Good advice Ian ,I appreciate your comment 👍
