IMO hermetic order is the most fun because it really changes up your city planning. It is really bad if you don't get the ley lines though, which is why I always check the ley line positions and reload of necessary. It's my game and I'm not above save scumming!!

Hermetic Order is my favorite because you can meme it so hard. If you ever spawn desert or tundra its a great choice to make that save work since ley lines spawn more in those areas.
The alchemist society is really good right? Gold and production boost seems awesome unless there’s something i dont see
    Some Strategies:
firstly, build your districts and improvements before you join so that ley lines dont screw up your placements.
    - Peter: while Voidsingers is probably better, being in tundra means you’ll get lots of ley lines and the third promotion of boosting them based on great people is insane due to the Lavra.
    - Pedro: a rainforest leyline grants +3 adjacency and using the festival project you can get crazy great people
    - Oracle + Pingala (Grants) + Hermetic Order tier 3: insane yields on leylines
aka if you can generate lots of great people, those leyline tiles will be better than vampire castles.

Owls are the best! You ever play an archipelago map with owls and Portugal? You can get a minimum of +3 adjacency on every harbor and commercial hub by putting them adjacent to each other and then you get 2 trade routes per city. It's absolutely incredible.

Secret Societies + an S-Tier civ like Portugal is cheating. Even if Portugal couldn't found cities on its home continent, it would still be overpowered.

Hermetic Order is great if you get a lot of ley lines, half the time I choose hermetic order I don't get any and don't have any places nearby that have any. It is really a complete roll of the five with them. If you are even thinking about hermetic order, you should probably save your game before choosing them so you can go back and choose something else if you end up completely screwed out of ley lines

Easy explanation. When you have a minimum of 2 the same resource. You can take a builder and upgrade to industry. (Research finished) to upgrade to Corporation. You need 3 of the same resource. Now you can upgrade your industry to corporation and needs a merchant to do so. Only one per city is is allowed. So manage your different luxury resources well. (Finished research)

Generally before I choose I save-scum and check where the ley lines are. If I get a good amount or can plop my districts on top of the ones that would get in the way of my plan, then I get those districts down before choosing Hermetic Order. Also if you are playing Peter, ley lines do seem to love tundra. If I only get a couple or they suck in positions, then I reload and pick something else. But Hermetic Order has the best level 2 in the game because it gives you great merchant, engineer, and scientist points. Also, Hermetic Order and Owls of Minerva are the only ones possibly really useful at all 4 levels. I rarely take Voidsingers past level2 unless you really need relics. Sanguine pact is probably the most powerful situationally, especially for a domination game, but they are pretty much a one-trick pony…

Just for everyone's sake, vampires can die! If he is in your city and you attack out and he dies, he doesn't respawn, just thought to correct that little mistake a lot of people think the vampire is unable to die, it isn't.

I love Hermetic Order. Alchemical Society provides massive boosts to more than just Science for Great People. You won't miss another Great Person. It also provides gold equal to adjacency bonus of the district.
The Alchemical Society is a building in Civilization VI. It is exclusive to the Hermetic Order secret society in the Secret Societies game mode, introduced in the Ethiopia Pack. It is built in the Campus district and replaces the University.
    Effects:
+4 Science Science (boosted by Rationalism Policy Card)
    +2 Production Production
    +1 Housing Housing
    +1 Citizen Citizen slot
+1 Great Scientist Great Scientist point per turn
+1 Great Engineer Great Engineer point per turn
+1 Great Merchant Great Merchant point per turn
Grants Gold Gold equal to the adjacency bonus of the district.

HO isn’t that bad. Played Peter to knock out a few achievements. You can settle on the ley lines, and the adjacency is okay, but once you hit tier three, if you are playing a civ that gets a lot of great people, EVERY ley line in the game (including those under your cities) get MASSIVE yields. They are easily as good as most vampire castles, but you aren’t limited to three. So if you are playing a domination game where you can take the ley lines you want or cities with them, it’s definitely worth it. Now I was playing Peter so mostly in tundra, so I did have a butt-ton of them in my territory. If not in tundra, they were still present, but more spread out and fewer. So, for Russia or Canada definitely worth considering. For a domination civ where you can take the cities you want with ley lines, also worth it. If you are turtling and not in tundra, maybe a pass, but I’ve found sanguine pack nearly as useless as everybody claims HO is. To me, unless you are playing a hardcore domination game, SP is the most useless secret society. HO’s level 2 also gives you a building that gives gold equal to science bonuses. Compound that with the ley lines and some tactical placement of campuses, plus the double campus adjacency bonus card, and that can amount to a tidy sum of gold per turn. And you can stack your usual commercial hubs in too, it all adds up.

I think people don't understand the usefulness of Hermetic Order because they overlook the "turning lead into gold" theme of it.
Hermetic Order is most useful when the placement of your first couple of cities have low district adjacency bonuses (

  • @ulrichbeckultra
    @ulrichbeckultra 3 года назад +1

Hermetic Order's promotions are district oriented: You have better adjencency on them and you profit from great people which you mostly get from building districts.
I think to emphasise the district orientation of Hermetic Order and to make it a better secret society overall, you should recieve another bonus at the first promotion along with uncovering the Ley lines: the district limit in each city should be extended by one!
This synergises in a great way with the subsequent promotions and you profit from Hermetic Order even if you have few Ley lines in your territory.

Honestly, this is all reminding me of that time I tried to do an expanded version of the Secret Societies mode that expands and tweaks the current titles and overall makes the societies more nuanced and interactive but then realized I have no idea how to mod and now just have a bunch of notes about my critiques of the Societies and how to make them feel better to work with.
But yeah for me it feels like the Hermetic Order is lacking in the level of versatility. The Owls get an insane level of versatility from extra policies, the Voidsingers' faith conversion allows you to have a reasonable-to-insane science & culture while maintaining your faith economy, and Vampire Castles are honestly pretty underrated in making your capital a production powerhouse. However, the Ley Lines' resource randomness and the inability to interact with them aside from district placement has always put a bad taste in my mouth. Like, they could be so much MORE like enhancing resources in your empire so bonus resources are doubled or your luxuries provide an extra copy. IDK something to actually make one feel excited to play Hermetic Order even IF you don't end up with too many Ley Lines in your current position.

  • @njmfff

"Voivod" is English translation of word "Vojvoda" which is equivalent to "duke" from Western kingdoms. It was word used to describe military commander of two legions by (South) Slavs at first, but it later became more of a governmental title and it was also adopted by Magyars, Romanians and I think Polish.
As for the cul... I mean societies themselves, I just want to point out that you should pay attention when playing as Ottomans and Arabia. Arabia has unique university and Ottomans have unique bank, so Hermetic order and Owls of Minerva will override their unique buildings, which might be something you don't want.

  • @chriscampbell2670

Owls are my 1st choice and very flexible for many victory types. Sanguine pack is my runner up choice depending on civ that I am playing and map surroundings Love the Vamp Castles It is kinda lame how random getting them can be I have had a few starts where I wanted them and killed 4 barb camps and no invite.

  • @pdraggy
    @pdraggy 3 года назад +1

    a couple bad sides though
sanguine: when you make vamp castles in neutral territory (or your city that controls the territory gets taken over) the castle disappears when another civ or city state controls the territory the castle is on
owls and hermetic: the rules on SS unique buildings when your civilization has a unique building of the same type (such as mali and owls or arabia and hermetic) it will be overruled by your civilization's UB NOT combined. So just know you might be losing that ability also you can't put districts on leylines :| so this can horribly spoil some plans, like when aluminum pops up where you had a +6 campus carefully planned! Than again it's kind of a blessing when you play the gauls.
VS: None it synergizes with Rome, it synergizes with Ethiopia, Indonesia- it's just SPECTACULAR.
I like to go hermetic with Norway since it's Stave church is basically a leyline it adds to the settle on leyline madness xD

Vampire Castles and preserves are just nuts, properly planned 3-6 preserves surrounding a single castle and the yields go through the roof, Doubly so for either Kupe or Teddy.
Owls of Minerva are the obvious choice for any of your heavy trade based civs, Portugal, Spain and Mali all come to mind.
Voidsingers are the no brainers for any faith based game, Russia, Ethiopia, Mali, etc. Turn all that faith into other yields mmm nice.
Hermetic Order should be fun sadly Ley lines being so random just makes them too inconsistent. When the stars align you can get amazing adjacency on plenty of districts but too often you either don't get any or they end up in spots where you would want to place your districts. I agree with other comments if you could place them yourself they would be much more playable.

I need to spend more time with Sanguine Pact. It seems to me to be the hardest to use but potentially the second best behind Voidsingers. Vamps obviously help with early war but I shy away from them unless I'm planning to win a domination game because otherwise I'm rarely involved in a meaningful late game war. I need to figure out how to combine castles and preserves so that SP still retains its use late-game.
Update: SP synergizes really well with a Petra city, probably even more than preserves. I find it hard to synergize with preserves because my preserves tend to surround volcanoes or natural wonders that castles can't be put in the middle of.

A Vampire has the ability to repair (like a builder would repair) only once *per era* so i sometimes repair with one of my Vampires if it is needed and is prudent. The thing is that Vampire cannot build a Vampire castle if they have repaired a tile and must wait until the next era if they want to build one or repair a tile that might need it again. edit, man this paragraph is not written as well as it should be, hope it makes sense.

I feel like Owls trade route and envoy bonuses provide better yields that Vamp castles even. If you play wide you probably get 3-5 extra traders from Gilded Vaults-- with democracy/merchant confederation that's as much as 100+ gold, 40+production/food, and possibly 80+ faith or culture depending on alliances/Kumasi/Chinguetti. Then, the extra envoys from trade routes on a larger map would easily give you double-digit yields of anything you wanted.

I personally consider Owls to be hands down the best secret society. The policy cards, envoys, and spies are just too good. The bank replacement bonuses are just gravy.
I do however like going Voidsinger if I'm playing a game where faith/religion is a focal point where the early faith boost can be huge.
I personally don't like Pact as much as others seem to, but I get it's appeal.
I largely ignore the last one.

Never had a bad game with Owls, had epic games with Voidsingers (especially Eleanor as mentioned), have had some great games with Hemetic Order especially with Australia or Japan ( but yeah, sometimes the Leyline meh) the last stage is great if you have a strong game with Great People, those Leyline tiles get so juicy.
I've had some absolutely terrible games with Vampires, like nowhere good to put Vampire Castles, AI settling on my castles in neutral territory, not being able to level up the Vampire effectively (especially if a neighbour has them too and steals all the Barb kills and destroys the camps, then they go to war with you and your Vamps are so weak they're practically useless as they take so long to heal).

These are my thoughts as both a very very new players, and before watching the video as I wanted my own experiences written out first. For bias warnings, my favorite game type is Domination, followed very closely by Science, distantly by Faith and Diplomatic, and Cultural distant last.
I can never see Hermetic Order as bad after my run with them, but I can also see them as the least consistent, when you're someone playing MP or unwilling to restart a map, they'll easily be the worst due to this.
Void Singers are great early-game but unless I was specifically doing a faith run, their later bonuses don't really mean much, its the society I was most hyped for but probably like the least
Sanguine is straight-forward, it generates super-units that can't die, and the castles are a sweet bonus that let it be a decent choice even in non-aggressive games
The owls I feel are the best one, any victory type can make use of extra policy slots, and the other stuff is just a bonus at that point.

  • @antongrigoryev6381
    @antongrigoryev6381 2 года назад +1

The Alchemical Society is probably the worst out of unique buildings.
Gilded Vault takes the main Trade Route balance rule - about Trade Capacity from Commercial Hub and Harbor not stacking - and throws it out the window.
Old God Obelisk gives you Faith when you need it the most - at the beginning of the game, practically guaranteeing you early Pantheon.
Alchemical Society... Neither Gold nor Production is hard to come by, and Great People points... it's useful I guess, but you'll still need to build Commercial hubs and Industrial Zones to get those in big enough quantities. You get a number of minor benefits that you'll probably never really notice. There's nothing *special* about this building, it's just plain and boring.

    • @njmfff

They are kinda crap, because Lay lines are random and can mess up your city plan as you cannot build on top of them and are just too unreliable to make good adjacency. I enjoy hermetic more than any of the others, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I will literally join it the instant I find it, even if I'd be better served with another society. So I guess I'll do what I have to and make the mandatory impassioned defense of the society.
I've personally never had absolutely shit luck with lay lines. I'll always have at least a few in my territory, and more often than not, I find them in clusters that I try and plan a few cities around for some really insane cities, rather than just using them all for one mega city (if I wanted that, sanguine capital city is a much better choice).
The great people yields make it alot more tolerable to settle some late game cities, particularly if I settle tundra for oil, since the cities that would never accomplish much will actually provide decent yields if its got a ley line or two, and the lack of adjacency isn't even an issue thanks to the major adjacency from the lines, though unless I'm focusing trade routes, or have a few seaside resources, it'll be more limited by pop.
Alchemical society is helpful for a bit of gold, and the extra merchant and engineer points can be helpful if you don't build many commercial hubs or just to get more engineers in addition to your IZ, and while I'll be honest, I've not done the city project too often, I can say the same for the voidsingers, and I'd still say that Occult Research is better than dark summoning in almost every scenario. Eleanor is probably the only civ who actually tries to loyalty flip, but every civ wants gold and great people.
I will say that I don't usually play on diety, and those who do would probably be much better served with a consistent society, but for me, id rather have the little bit of rng. Maybe I'm just a secret warmonger who wants to see no laylines in my territory so I have an excuse to wipe out my neighbor. But regardless, I stand by hermetic as a worthwhile society, even if I've now probably lost all credibility in saying so.

I think voidsingers is easily the best, but you do have to play into it. If you just pick it and ignore faith, then obviously it isn't going to be good, but that would be like picking owls and ignoring trade routes or sanguine and just not building the castles. For players that understand how to abuse faith and monumentality it is just hard to beat. I tend to play faith heavy though for every victory type with most civs. If production is king, that is what voidsingers give you assuming you play in a manner that your faith can be converted directly into production as well as converted into gold, culture, and science. I only unlock the 3rd promotion if going culture victory.

Idea: What if, instead of randomly spawning ley lines, the first promotion of the hermetic order gave you a unit that could make them. Maybe, oh I dont know, an alchemist ;). Of course, since they give major adjacency, I believe giving them a somewhat high production cost is fair. Or I could be wrong, as I am not a game designer. Tell me what you think about my idea and give your own thoughts afterwards.

I knew what Voivode is, and I believe you accentuate the 'e' (Voy-Vo-Du). It's a Transylvanian name for a regional ruler.

I have a dedicated save that I have where I check to see if hermetic order is worth it for that game. 3 ley lines or more within the area I plan on claiming? it's worth it. Any less, and anything else is better.

I do! I have had the highest adjacency bonuses ever using Hermetic Order and some lucky rolls. The problem is just that, luck. (Sometimes I save scum a little bit, and if I don't have any good ley lines nearby I'll just reload, sorry not sorry) I had had a +13 holy site before (had the desert folklore pantheon and some good leylines in the desert), used the doubling card to get to +26, had work ethic, got the great scientist that gives science boost equal to faith boost to a holy site, and had this one site powering a city with +26 Faith/Science/Production. Was pretty neat, and that city basically became a super city ;)

Void singers do have a pretty low celling: Not faith, no gain. 20% of nothing is still nothing and cultists cost a fair amount of faith. Without holy sites or preserves even hermetic order is better.
Hermetic order is the secret society for a science victory, that boosts you science. There as sancuine pact boost your production. But its really starts going with the third promotion, instead with the first or second and is map depended. How ever, it might be a choice for a science victory, if your neighbours have joined hermetic order, because that almost always gives you a good relatition ship with you neighbours, that reduces war risk and gives you better trade deals. But mostly its the secret society for the ai, since it requires zero micro management.

    Hey OK Mr. Secret Society....!!!
Lets deal with a true story, how about it eh?
A Secret Society member (AKA Daniel Pestill) who shot and killed (in real life)...shot a killed my innoccent husband, a wheel-chairchair assessible van driver for Blue-Line Taxi In oshawa, Ontario.
The trial is going on right, now, April,2024.
An innocent young father of two chidren . twins, age 20, who are totally heartbroken.
With a surviving wife, mother of two. Left to pick up the pieces.
Do you have blood on your hands?
watch my husbands funeral on-line, Michael A. Ryan, Oshawa funeral Home. Watch his 20-yr old daughter speak about her father.
Watch and feel the pain that this family went through because Daniel Pestill shot in the back and killed Michael Ryan (with no mercy).
