However, news received from Rhodes causes everyone to get terrified.
At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

I think Hurrem process of growing up is very real. We all started out being childish and act recklessly. She’s learning slowly every step of the way. Even though she’s power hungry and I do detest some of her annoying behaviour but I really think it’s just youth and wilfulness

Meryem acting is on cue coz this is a young Hurrem barely out of her teens so she’s bound to be a bit immature with all the attention she’s getting from Suleiman. But Meryem’s ingenious acting also reveals that Hurrem is still getting accustomed to the Ottoman imperial culture where decorum means everything. After all Hurrem was raised as a commoner before entering the Harem which in her time meant that she was a peasant but received better education coz her father was a priest.

But as she grew older, she left all these stupid tactics.. 😂 Learned to. Survive in palace, gained few loyal friends/concubines for her.. How to keep concubines on her side.. As she was nit a princess, became fav immediately after she entered palace.. She took her time to understand people, who is trustworthy, how to survive the harem politics without being disgraced in eyes of sultan..

Mahidevran is not innocent, no one is in this series we all know that but I think everyone forgets about her soft side, although Hurrem does evil things too she’s still always praised for being caring and such but everyone disregards mahidevran as if her character is only made to be evil and jealous. She was the first to be thankful towards viktoria and wanted to reward her and have someone tend to her injuries while no one else cared and acted as if she was an object while she was clearly in pain. I know she’s a slave but how can these humans have so little empathy. I think we should highlight mahidevrans other traits more.

Lukania Moon, She's supposed to be Hungarian. She was the bride,Lady something whose husband (some nobleman) was killed when Suleiman stormed the castle during the couple's wedding dinner.
She's actually in the palace to seek revenge so we see her ingratiating herself into the royal family. The moment I saw her I knew she was a woman bcs a guy cannot look so weak and effeminate.

I'm getting so fed up with hurrem. Was my favorite character when the series started now I'm even starting to like mahidrevan more. Something that's always bothered me is how Hürrem came after Gülnihal when she found out she had been with the Sultan. The woman didn't have a choice. What was she supposed to do? Just say, "Oh sorry Sultan, I'm flattered but no thank you."? Also, it seems like girls names Ayşe are just really annoying.

@@cutieepie757 there are too many to write about all but a few, Hurrem was the only Haseki Sultan, Mahidevran was never. Suleyman had 3 sons and a daughter when he ascended the throne, Mustafa being the 2nd one. Only after the plague in 1521 did Mustafa become the eldest living son which resulted in Mahidevran's rise in rank but not to Haseki. Hatice Sultan was not the youngest sister, she was the oldest and never married to Ibrahim Pasha. The marriage between Hurrem and Suleyman took place after Valide Ayse Hafsa Sultan passed away. Cihangir was born before that. The Harem was in the Old Palace not in the Topkapi. There were no murders or attempts to kill Hurrem like seen in the series. And so on. There was no Firuze, pure fiction. And so on and on. A lot is made up.

Honestly, valide was a nice mother in law if you know how to handle and manipulate her emotions and most importantly give her grand children. Hurrem was antagonistic to her. She chose the rough side of the valide. The woman was a true queen.

The subtle signs throughtout the show telling us Khadije was depressed all along. Multiple suicide attempts, losing hope over minor inconveniences and the panic attack in this episode. GREAT SHOW and great character writing.
