This video shows a pretty nasty crane teardrop humidifier. I left it over summer with water in it and of course mold grew and I couldn’t use it until it was properly cleaned.
I show you in this video how to clean your humidifier in a standard weekly clean and also mention how to use bleach to clean it as well.
This should be done regularly because it directly effects the air quality that goes into your lungs.

Use hydrogen peroxide when you use it kills all bacteria..
Probably would be good to mention the importance of not mixing bleach and vinegar unless you're trying to produce chemical weapons in your home.
😂
@bruse wayne Bleach mixed with an acid such as vinegar creates chlorine gas, which can be deadly if inhaled in high amounts.
Nah its fine, you should first dilute the bleach then mix it with distilled vinegar this will give you HOCL very good disinfect and pretty safe. the goal is ph5 and around 200ppm chlorine
@@azlannakamoto7913 where did you get that information 🤔?
Great Point! I am still recovering from an unfortunate cleaning "incident" at my Mum's house four nights ago. I was in a hurry to get the job done- covered the shower, toilet & jacuzzi with a decent amount of bathroom bleach spray. I figured I'd let the bleach "do it's job" and so turned my attention to some sink stains- I followed the directions on the bottle of cleaner I had specially picked up at the store- (totally not checking the ingredients first)...I ran some hot water first- added about 3-4 tablespoons of the cleaner on a sponge and applied to the stained portions.
I realized I had forgotten paper towels- so I ran downstairs to grab a roll - probably took 3-4 minutes.
When I returned to the bathroom- I noticed a sort of haze hanging around the sink area- (still not realizing that the stain-remover was mainly ammonia) I think my first thought was OMG it's eating away at the porcelain- probably left it sitting too long! So I quickly turned the water full blast to Hot- and soon steam was adding to the vaporous chemical cloud. I think it was only 10-15 seconds until I found my lungs begin to burn- then seize....like I couldn't get any air in...the burning in my throat followed next. I ran out into the bedroom area and ran to the open window about 10 feet away.
My Mum rushed me to the ER- where I was immediately checked-in and treated for (Acute) Chloramine Toxicity. I was kept under "Observation" for 36 hours- within 24 hours a rash started to spread on my left arm and flank, entire chest and stomach areas. I am recovering at home presently- the rash has progressed to yellowish crusty- blisters but (thankfully) no new areas have "erupted".
I am lucky to be here- typing this post.
I encourage everyone to: READ & UNDERSTAND the LABELS on every CLEANER and CHEMICAL that enters your home and work area. It's not a joke, it's definitely not something to be minimized or encouraging others not to worry (about).
I am willing to "take the fall" as a fool by any who choose to dish it out. If I save at least one other person from repeating the same mistake- it's totally worth being called any name in the book!
Him:fill it up with water
Me: fills it up with cold water
Him: make this as hot as you can

Ah .. finally a humidifier cleaning practise that makes sense !! ! Very practical approach as most videos are using a whole cup of vinegar . I follow your recipe .. only a few TBSP in the water and rinse. This makes it economical and easy to do. I still am only doing this bi -weekly or monthly .. Thanks so much !!
I also did with baking soda and vinegar. Smells great! No moldy smell.
Can u please say how you did it? Like did u put some baking soda inside the humidifier and then poured white vinegar on it?
@@Mellalala577 Exactly, this is the best way
The most sensible way of doing it 👌
Hi, how do you do it with baking soda and vinegar? Portion?
Thank you so much for this. My humidifier stopped working after a week, so I will try this first before posting a negative review…
So I was about to go to the store and get a new one. Then just saw your video. Vinegar didn't do the whole job so I ended up using a little bleach and boom that did the job. Thanks again man.
Kowser Parvez boom. LOL
Do NOT use bleach!! Cool mist humidifiers aerosolise the water into droplets that are the perfect size to be inhaled deep into the lungs.
That's dangerous -- any remaining drops vinegar that get mixed with the bleach will turn into a very harmful chlorine gas.
Are you still alive @Kowser Parvez?
@@perry7688 lmao he gone
Thanks so much for this video. I, too, have a Crane and i never cleaned it. It didn't seem to put out much moisture so i just stopped using it. Problem is, I neglected the fact that water was actually still in the water basin. The water basin had green mold/algae in it. The base (internal water area) had mold as well. I wasn't sure this would work. As instructed, I used the hottest water possible. Then I added two TBSP of white distilled vinegar and did the same with the base. I shook the water basin and let them sit, as instructed. Once done, I used a toothbrush and scrubbed the areas i could reach (externally) where there was mold. The reservoir had a great deal of the mold/algae gone but there was still some on the edges. I opened the water basin and added two tbsp of bleach to the water/vinegar solution and shook rapidly again. Let sit for 30 more minutes. BINGO!!!! All gone. Be sure to rinse thoroughly. To ensure there wasn't any toxic bleach residue, I repeated the white vinegar step to balance the neutrality of the water basin. Rinse thoroughly... Enjoy.
Thank you again. I was about to throw it away altogether. Thanks to you, I don't have to. Cheers!
Vinagre with bleach ?
You’re not supposed to use bleach at all. No harsh chemicals unless you want bleach moisture in your home
I just used the bleach steps at first, it cleared almost everything!! I'm using vinegar now to finish the cleaning. Thanks for the video.

THANKS! I was looking for these. Most other cleaning videos only cover the types of humidifiers that you can open. Oh, and By the way, in real measurements its 1 big spoonful per liter , but I used 2 and it was fine
Thanks! I have tried vinegar and it didn't help. I will have to try bleach.

Not supposed to use bleach. It can be harmful when the humidifier gets turned on and fills up your home with bleach moisture
Liana, from my research I've read to use white vinegar, not to say that you can't use apple cider vinegar but that's what I've read.
it helped me so much. thank you
Yes, it did help. Thank you.
I can't believe how fast you shook that thing.
Is this a de-humidifier or humidifier? You said de humidifier? Is cleaning the same for both?
I will try this now. Thank you.🎀
Vinegar will clean it but won't disinfect it. Probably ain't a bad idea to dilute some bleach in water after the cleaning and let it soak for half an hour. Awesome video!
Thank you! Been looking for this solution for a while now...
In the beginning you called it a dehumidifier instead of humidifier.
What if I have mold growing where the steam is coming out? Can I run it with vinegar in it? Would that even help? :(
That's where mine gets dirty too 😪😪
Did he say DE humidifier? 🤦♀️

Thank you so much this was so helpful
I read your suppose to let it run with the vinegar for a while? Or is just letting it sit good enough ?
Why are humidifiers so hard to clean? If you want to put it away for a few months, the left over moisture inside will still accumulate mold and mildew. No matter how much you clean, how can you dry it after it’s clean so you can put it away without building up mold inside?
Paper towel
@@tardwrangler but the ones I’ve had , you can’t dry. You can’t stick your hand inside through that tiny hole
Instead of using vinegar as a cleaning solution, would i be able to use rubbing alcohol to clean the humidifer ?
That should honestly work (=
@cmillett85 Unfortunately i tryed 99 percent rubbing alcohol and it didn't work. 🫠
My guess you need something mildly acidic to uplift the calcium bluid up.

could i please inquire, was it regular bleach 2tbsp? or a baby 'milton' style bleach?? please:) white vinegar not fully working, great advise thankyou!
Crane's video recommends white vinegar. Apple vinegar is for cooking and not recommending for cleaning.
Ok.. Im gonna try it. Tnx! 👍🙏
Thanks man!! 👏🏼👏🏼
Great job!
This video was useful, thanks.
Does that thing still work? Looks like you came within a 100th of an inch of flooding the electronics via the air vent
Can you use apple cider vinegar or only white vinegar?
Liana Preacher not apple cider
Yes you can
I use a polident denture cleaner tablet. No Vinagar smell.
I noticed the spoon so cute ❤️
at the base of mine I get these weird bead looking things and light brown stuff coating where the vapor comes out
that is bacteria
I followed the instructions and still had a slippery film on the bottom of the inside of the water tank (guilty of not cleaning weekly) so I put some water in the tank along with a hefty amount of salt to act as a scrubber. It worked great in that impossible to reach area though I am not sure if there will be any long term damage. Rinse well!
Laurie Waugh , I have the same exact issue! Did you just shake the heck out of it? What kind of salt did you use?
Will try this with salt water thank you
Doesn’t the salt just dissolve into the water though?

davidhunternyc only if you enjoy the smell of vinegar :)
Only if you’re okay with the fact that you’ll be breathing in vinegar moisture
@@mrstravel9381 Wow, I posted this comment 5 years ago. Since then I've been using a Honeywell warm mist humidifier for 6 months out of the year. Dirt cheap from Amazon. I clean it with white vinegar once every two weeks. I poor the vinegar on the heating element and let it sit for 8 hours and clean off the crusted on grime with a toothbrush. The humidifier is as good as new and I don't use any vinegar in the water tank at all.
thanks
I guess vinegar would work for a clean unit. You will need the bleach water for a dirty one. I would also run it with either one and then a few times with clean water each time.
Cool!! Thanks!!!
If the censor is weak, switched off frequently what to do.
Where do you put water in a valdotex humidifier
It’s a humidifier not a dehumidifier
Can I do this with a megawise one
Wait so now that when you use it...your gonna smell vinegar 🤨
Hmm I wonder if that's the case and I hope not!
Is it normal for there to be water under the tank and in the well with the black ring on the left?

Well the most important thing for humidifiers, especially ultrasonic ones is to ONLY use distilled water for it. Never tap water or filtered water or spring water.
but i've been using tap water for 2 weeks already, it would just require more cleaning no?
tap water in canada is safe to drink.
True. You will inhale the minerals of the tap water as well.
You can use tap water but you must clean it weekly.
I am not doing that ! I guess I’ll just have to buy a new humidifier every week . SMH lol jk I’m not that lazy . Great video man
Dehumidifier??
Why do you fill your humidifier by filling up a bottle from the tap first and then pouring the water from the bottle into the humidifier rather than just filling the humidifier from the tap directly??
because he needed exactly 32oz
You could also cycle the vinegar through the humidifier but I'd do it outside, unless you want your house smelling like blegh!!
CAN I USED SOAP
I placed the base in the sink and used dawn and water. I cleaned the entire thing. Now it's all wet, even inside the vents underneath the base. Is it safe to you use right away or should I wait until it's fully dry?

How much should you rinse it after the vinegar? Is it different for bleach?

odd. my instructions tell me to use THREE DESILITERS of undiluted vinegar and shake it around the tank, then let it sit, clean it off with water and such.

Can i add essential oil in it??
no, if you have a humidifier you CANT use essential oils. you may add drops into a vaporizer though. two completely different things
why can't you? i have and i noticed it sort of messed with the plastic...is that why?
I add it all the time and have no issue
i've add a liquid vicks to help me kid breath at night, i don't see why you can't
Probably best not to call it a DE-humidifier right at the beginning. Doesn't inspire trust and now I'm turning this video off.
