Another in-joke occurs in this episode when Marlo bumps into the priest, she says, "excuse me, father", it is HER FATHER, Danny Thomas. So sweet.
And Danny Thomas wasn't in the credits!!!?
He also wasn't in the credits for his episode on "The Dick Van Dyke Show" ("It May Look Like a Walnut"). His appearance on that was pretty lengthy, as opposed to this cameo.@@markwhitman9029
Marlos sister her brother and father 🤍 wow
I dont remember is her sister really a nun .not sure.
.."well if she does I'm at *St.Thomas's"* ...
The church she sings at she said is "Saint Thomas's" LOL I love all the inside jokes 🙂
I never got that
St Thomas's as her last name?
I believe it was the first season, one of the episodes that Rob Reiner was cast in. When they introduced the couple they were Carl and Estelle. That's the name of Rob Reiner's parents. Carl being well-known as the boss on the Dick Van Dyke Show. Estelle was a singer and MOST famous for her role in "When Harry Met Sally": "I'll have what she's having!"
“Why don’t you stop and have a pop with me?”😂😂😂😂
At the start of the episode when Ann is interviewing to be the "Pop Girl" there is a picture on the wall of the office of some horses and it's the same pitcture that hangs in Donald's apartment and the same picture that hung over the couch in the Petrie home in The Dick Van Dyke Show. Both shows were filmed at Desilu studios and you see a lot of the same props used from show to show.
Terre Thomas has a beautiful, soft, sweet voice. None of Marlo's annoying scratchiness. The song she sang for the children, "Turn Around", made me cry. I believe Perry Como also recorded that song. So bittersweet. I think the wonderful Harry Belafonte wrote that beautiful song.
Yea, I got teary, it was beautiful
Glad to know I'm not the only one who gets teary eyed with this song
@@bobbennett2602 naa, nothing wrong with showing emotion.
Awwww. I just noticed this.
I never knew he wrote that classic so g.
Tony Thomas is not only Marlo's brother and Danny's son, but he was also a big-time producer of many classic TV shows with Susan Harris and the late Paul Junger Witt, including "The Golden Girls".
Luv her red dress and blue hosiery at the singing audition. The horizontal striped turtleneck in following scene great, too. Lotta retro cool frocks in this series. Gray dress with white belt ensemble. So many.
One of my favorites. Her sister and brother were "terrific" but I loved the cameo by her father.
Indeed a charming episode...to see talented Thomas family together !
Family
Her father is one the greatest heroes who ever lived.
A WONDERFUL WONDERFUL MAN
@@johncarter9147 Indeed.
Liked his show.
Can’t figure why no one picks it up.
Yes Danny started St.Jude and Marlo carries on his legacy😅
@@markwhitman9029 Exactly!
That made me cry,😢seeing Danny once more! ❤
The character of Rose, played by Marlo's real sister has a "Danny Thomas nose" and if you watch old episodes of The Joey Bishop show that Marlo was a semi regular on you'll see Marlo also had the same larger nose so she's obviously had hers fixed sometime in the early to mid 60's prior to the That Girl show.
Indeed a Charming episode....love to see all family members!
What a “terrific” episode.
Awwww it was a family affair show 😉🥰
The Nun is Marlo's sister Terre. The Nun's brother is their brother Tony and the priest that Ann bumps into is none other than Danny Thomas, Marlo, Terre and Tony's dad. And their mother is "in" this episode (Nun's name is Rose Casiniti, which is Marlo, Terre and Tony's mother's maiden name.)
That explains it! I was listening, but not watching, and noticed a similarity between Anne and Rose's voices.
I knew about the family relations, but not about Marlo's mom's maiden name. Shoot I thought I knew trivia. Thanx!
@@lisacolavito8319 Have you ever read Danny Thomas' autobiography "Make Room For Danny"? It's well worth reading.
@@scottstacey7447 Never read, but, I'm gonna.
@@lisacolavito8319 And to add to the family trivia, the Executive In Charge Of Production, Ronald Jacobs, is a first-cousin (Danny Thomas' nephew) to Marlo, Terre and Tony
Ann is interviewed by good ol' Henry Blake himself, McLean Stevenson. Around that time, he played Mike Nicholson on "The Doris Day Show" alongside Rose Marie, Doris Day, Tod Starke, and Philip Brown.
At the end of the show there's a reference to a TV show that was then popular, and on ABC, the same network as "That Girl". "The Flying Nun" aired on ABC from 1967 to 1970.
People were very kind back then. Ashamed of what's happened but it's never too late for things to change. I hope.🙏 December 2024.
People are still kind. There were jerks back then too.
The Church's name St.Thomas. Marlo has a lovely family
Tony Thomas is a very handsome guy. He looks more like his father, Danny, than his sisters do. Probably a good thing.
Terre was pretty yet no one in the episode mention that she and Ann looked alike! Farfetched. Great epidode😅
Who never knew Marlo had nose work? Duh
Those kids are grandparents now.
Fun Fact: Casanitti is Marlo''s (and Terre's and Tony's) mother's maiden name.
I saw this episode in the 90's.
I think that the character Rose Cassanitti (Marlo's actual sister Terre) is the actual name of their mother. Also Danny Thomas's wife. A beautiful family. Tony the drummer is Tony Thomas, the girls' brother. The priest in the hallway that Ann calls 'father', is actually her father, Danny. The church is also called St. Thomas's. We get it.
Not to mention that Ronald Jacobs, Executive in Charge of Production, is a first-cousin to Marlo, Terre and Tony and nephew to Danny.
I am Canadian and we call soda, pop.🇨🇦
In America's Midwest, we call it pop, too.
Yeah we call it pop in Chicago
Marlo's a better actress, Terre's a better singer. And they also are practically identical. And they've got the same haircut. Definitely a family affair on this show.
I love at 13:00 anne says. "Woman? Lady? Girl. That's better." Talk about 60s sexism. A grown woman wants to be a girl, not a woman.
How many outfits does Marlo wear in this episode? 8!
Maclean Stevenson from MASH
Odd how Henry Blake has de-aged since the Korean War.
I actually thought he died in helicopter crash back in the early 50s.
McLean Stevenson in the beginning.
Thought he got killed in a plane crash over the Sea of Japan when he left Korea?🤔…..😉
@@petegregory517 wrong show and this was a few decades before that one
She sang better than that a few episodes back when she had a grand piano in her living room. She sang with Donald.
Colonel Blake's job after the Korean War had he lived?
Is Terre still alive?😅😅
I cant believe Anne doesnt know what pop means. These kinds of scenes undermine her being a feminist icon. (Like Mary Richards is)...Although she did push the envelope.
Who was marlo Thomas's mother?
Danny Thomas
Interesting to see Marlo's sister and brother both have the "Thomas nose", i.e. they did not have it altered with surgery like Marlo (who also had the family nose as can be seen in her early photos and TV appearances).
I'm wondering if that surgery gave Marlo her characteristic squeaky, raspy voice as her sister seems to have a wonderfully smooth singing voice. Barbra Streisand famously refused to "fix" her nose as she was told it might affect her singing ability. Regardless of the reason, Marlo's cute, squeaky voice became an endearing part of her Ann Marie character.
So right about Marlo's nasal voice.
I hate this new intro. I liked the first season's a whole lot better.
There was another intro in Season 5 where they add the lyrics and a group sings "That Girl".
I was in college when the show was in prime time and watched regularly. I also like the first season intro better. I genuinely dislike the 5th season faux pop theme with the hokey, contrived lyrics. One of many things that went wrong in season 5.
I love the second opening of That Girl
I love this opening, I have the Ann Marie doll with Ann holding the flag, when words we're added to the opening, I didn't like it
