Many paid attention to the animation in this episode, but the best part for me was the character breakdown of Yama and how well Ywach uses mental tactics to win instead of sheer power. Ywach had Yama's squad and lieutenant killed first, this ultimately turned Yama into a rage monster fighting for revenge
- Here Yama is being completely spiteful, so instead of treating Ywach like a true threat and just erasing him, he tries to belittle, demean and torture him. In doing so, Yama isn't fighting like an experienced Commander which leads to him making the mistake of overusing his energy, which is why it was weak enough for Ywach to steal.

Aside from the god tier animation, god tier music and god tier voice acting, seeing the added content from kubo showing aizen after 10 years in the anime, talking with yhwach made this episode one the greatest anime episodes of all time it's so intimidating
This Aizen Ywach meeting was in the manga. But they did add some scenes to the fight.
The uryu scenes were nice too. I'm enjoying the added content

As someone who read these particular manga chapters ten years ago, seeing it finally animated was worth the wait. The animation this episode was absolutely top tier next level. It certainly was THE FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥

By far the craziest Bankai.
Multi-level bankai forms are kinda rare, but pretty epic to see. Byakuya has one, Kyoraku has one, Yamamoto has one, I can't think of many others that do.

@@dweller132 multi stage bankai is something that happens when you've mastered your zanpakutou to its fullest potential, while strengthening your relationship with your zanpakutou spirit a bankai can evolve and change over time because a bankai is the embodiment of relationship between shinigami and his/her zanpakutou spirit. this is why Yama's bankai when compared to 1000 years ago is different from now as yhwach described.
That was one of the best *directed* episodes of anime I've ever seen. So incredibly cinematic as a result of that peerless direction. The way that flower was used as a device to show the progression of the fight was just **chef's kiss** . Not the kind of story-telling device you typically see in anime.

Seeing Yamamoto's Bankai for the first time in the manga was absolutely wild. Going into this episode KNOWING what was going to happen, I still had my mind blown by everything going on.
Reading it from the manga and seeing it actually animated are two very different things cause reading it was cool but this was incredible.
Going into the episode knowing what will happen, and having HIGH expectation, yet just like you said, we got our mind blown still.
East honestly a bit below my expectation. West is pretty much the same. But South tho? That was clean. And the freaking NORTH??? That one is way tooo clean. All the added choreography, and addition of parallel with the past. This episode is perfect.

@@KingKP96 true, the impact of the fight is much greater in the manga, it's just the nature of the art, still shots/panels conveying much more but different and leaving the reader to fill in the blanks.
@@KingKP96 maybe I should’ve said it better because the manga made it happen it the first place but after waiting for over 10 years for them to release it this just hits differently. There are times when the manga does it better but that means the anime can do it just as well. Bleach is a good example of that.

not really as Yhwach said only he could steal his Bankai meaning the MEdallion requires you to be on similar tier to the enemy your trying to take it from which is why Ichigo is completely fine when he fought Oppie.

Yamas Bankai reveal was somehow even BETTER than it was in the manga. Perriot really did Kubo justice with this episode. Absolutely fantastic

Waited years for this fight.. It was worth it and so much more. The final scene in black and white emulating the manga was gorgeous. I couldnt believe it and the added touch with a anime only scene with Aizen was pure icing on the cake. What a gift of an episode... unbelievable.

No one is ready for the next episode. My god this is the best episode by far and this was the battle I’ve been hoping to see animated the most and it far exceeded my expectations.

Bro I read the manga and was still left speechless by this amazing episode! Yamamoto is that guy!
that moment when Yamamoto activated Zanka no Tachi East Kyokujitsujin and made all flames engulfing Soul Society disappear in an instant with the WTF expression on both Royd's and Jugram's faces was so freaking hype. when your opponent releases immense power you can drown in - you're screwed. but when you can't even see or comprehend the next level (as it was shown with Aizen and Ichigo not even 2 years prior) - you're f****d.
This chapter was honestly incredible. Not only animation wise but also you can feel all the emotions in the battle.
Yamamoto was furious with Sasakibe's death and he had no chill going full out on Yhwach, which was ultimately his downfall as well. The last face he made before getting slashed was no longer a face of rage but rather one of realization that he messed up and he just prepares to recieve the attack.
Yhwach is not only terrifying because his powers but also because he's an actual strategist, at least so far.

This weeks, and Next Weeks episodes are gonna be some of the most PEAK of Anime!
Also the fact we got to see Aizen and not just a name drop compared to the manga OMG THIS EPISODE
YAMAJIIIIIIIIIII. But as a manga reader this is AMAZING. I've been waiting for this and its FUCKING AMAZING. Also if you read the poems at the end of the episodes, they give a hint at to what the next episode will contain.
This fight has the potential to be one of the best anime fights of all time. It’s right up there. Us bleach fans are eating GOOD today!

@@almouctaribrahimidder8800 He didn't. The anime skipped it but it's explained that Royd Lloyd, the one Yamamoto fought, could only copy the memories and appearance of Yhwach. His twin who was killed by Kenpachi earlier, Loyd Lloyd, was the one who could copy abilities as well as appearance. The confusing part some people focused on was it implied that Royd was stronger despite only being able to copy memories and not ablities since Kenpachi supposedly lost to Royd. So how could Kenpachi beat Loyd but not Royd? Kubo apparently clarified years later that Kenpachi actually fought the real Yhwach but they switched by the time Yamamoto arrived.

Bleach is consistehnt with the animation and its very smart to make it a 4 season style anime. They need time for this insane animation i knew they wont betray us. Literally went to pray for the success of the anime. I said it alot but Pierrot will be hailed as one of the best animation studios ever, they already are but they keep improving. heads up

From what I understand, when Yamamoto kills somebody with his flames, they are burned away to ash which then becomes part of his flames. His ability to raise the dead is based around taking those ashes and reforming them into the world.
It's masterful that Kubo made Yama's Bankai so powerful we really thought he could beat the final antagonist.
The whole episode was amazing, but the moment Yama's bankai first activates is just spectacular.

In the first fan translation it was written as "Juha Bach" and that was phonetic with the J having the 'Y' sound.
The Aizen scene was rearranged to this position in the story which works WAY better here than where it originally was in the manga
Aizen talking with Yhwach like that is completely anime-only, manga never even showed it.
I just want to say one thing: aizen is not a character that appears only as "fanservice",
Old man Yama's bankai is cool because it is different from the previous bankai name rules.
By the way, Zanka no Tachi means embers sword.
Zanka means embers and Tachi means sword.
Tachi is a kind of Japanese sword.

All those flashbacks of Young Yamamoto and Yhwatch weren't shown in the Manga. It's a bonus that we got to see his bankai's North release in such a epic way in the Anime.
0:55 It's because his entrance was epic that the following scene had so much weight. The strongest character (after Yamamoto) we knew of got one-shot by the "big boss". This gave us a reference point to appreciate the boss vs boss battle.

I remember when this chapter came out years ago. Someone on an anime message board that I frequent to was able to predict with his theory the twin twist while waiting for the next chapter. My personal theory back then is that Haschwalt and Ywach switch bodies mid fight and Hash is now the new true Quincy King. I was expecting him to step up and off Yama quickly during the fight.
