  • Buying your first kettlebell can be confusing and knowing which weight to buy is an important decision.
However you can’t really go to far wrong as ultimately you should always be able to use that weight. If you buy a kettlebell that is too light you’ll be able to use it for your warm-ups. Where are if you buy a kettlebell that is heavy, you should still be able to use it for things like deadlifts, loaded carriers, squats, swings and rows.
So you see you should always be able to use the kettlebells you own however, to answer the question more concisely, women should start with either 8 or 12 kg and men should start with either 12 or 16 kg.

So I’m a few years deep into my kettlebell training I wish I saw this video back then. I went with cast iron and started with 16KG. I started following Geoff Neupert and got into double kettlebell training. I ended up with a bunch of slightly different shaped pairs of kettlebells.
I plateaued at double 20KG for years. Last year I purchased 2 powder coated cast iron 24KG bells from strength shop which I love. I saw massive gains as when I started I really struggled with them, as I took a year off training and had to start again from 16KG.
I am now looking to purchase a new kettlebell. I was planning on getting a 32KG bell and adding another at a later date due to cost.
To me I love double kettlebell programs as I seem to get the most bang for my buck with strength gains and time spent.
But after this video I am wondering if that’s the right choice and should I start buying Competition bells? Should I go higher than 32KG?
