I had this problem on my XJ8 and I thank Robert for pointing me in the right direction. It was as he said the Security Locking Controle Module, however I didn't want to do the repair he has shown here. I sourced a replacement module (second hand) but if you do the same make sure the replacement has the exact same serial number, once I replaced the unit the brake light was no longer on continuously and no programing is required apart from the key fob. Programed that and all was good no more problems.
This is exactly what's going on w/ my ride, Robert. I've got a few more things I want to check before I start splicing and dicing. But, I see THIS is the video that you wanted me to check out yesterday. Not the other one.
I have a 2001 XJ8. was excited the brake light staying on was not a unusual issue. I was about to do the mod on my car as I just needed it to work and work now. But before I did this and having some experience in repairing PC boards, I thought I would take a look at the module first. As it turns out, I had to replace the battery in my car earlier in the week and noticed a lot of crust and nasty stuff under the battery. I carefully wet down the battery compartment and cleaned it up before placing the new battery in and connecting it. It was the next day I walked out to the car to find the Right Brake light shining bright. I removed the fuse box to expose the module underneath. The cover was held together with tabs, I opened it up, disconnected the connectors and RF cable, and inspected the board. Well, it is not watertight. Im sure some of my water cleanup deposited some battery acid and other crud, it was crusted on the board and some of the surface mounted components along the edge of the board. I took out my cleaning brush and some ISO Alcohol and cleaned it up. checked the other side, just making sure the board was clean. Let it dry well, put it back in. It now works fine. Knowing a little history led me to think it could be crud on the board, any acid residue didn't have time to do more damage. But give it a try. rdean
I almost got run down by a semi the other day .Thought he was asleep at the wheel. Turns out my brake lights were stuck ON. BUT I thought it was my REAR fog lights that were stuck on because my switch has a light to show they (or IT) was on. I did not know about the brake light issue at this time. So I had to take the bulbs out for a couple of nights. Then I got down to bidness .I used this Vid as a guide and took it all apart. Now here is where things get INTERESTING.. The trunk floor plugs had popped out because I backed out of a driveway and the bottom scrubbed the ground .(this car is low and I sell flooring so all of that was in it too.) So water had got in the trunk from the plugs missing. I took it all out and wiped it down but nothing It the fuse box seemed real wet. Then I found it ! The hard bump in the rear floor must have jarred one of the relays from it's socket just enough to NOT make a connection. Looking straight down on these it it hard to see. Pushing this back down made it all work perfect again. I would think if this relay shits the bed many of the same issues might show. Pound the floor back ,out fix the plugs , check the fuses and relays before getting to far in. Thanks Mr Robert for these great Vids ! BTW these are great cars -mine has been running strong for over a year with zero issues.(this one I caused) . BTW 2 -You could run a relay off of the 3rd brake light and power the brake lights that way if you could not find brake light power in the harness as shown.
Hello Robert. 2001 Jaguar xkr. Do you think a faulty Body Processor Module would cause my Night Time dash lights to not work? Daylight mode lights do work, everything else on the car works. The night time dash lights work with the key on *Off* but as soon as I turn the key On, the lights go out. Any advice would be very appreciated.
It's the security locking control module , these modules can be repaired by a company in Idaho for 200 dollars , you remove your sclm , send it to them , they repair it then send it back to you , no need for programming because your using your oem equipment
Hello, my 1993 jaguar xjs light stays on all the time but ONLY when the car is on..key is in...not when the car is off and the key is out...now what do you suggest? Thanks
Robert DIY No, it is the BRAKE lights staying on ALL the time when the key is on or when the car/engine is running...once I turn car off/ take key out all those brakes lights do go out
Grrr, there may be a light control box or something like in the newer cars that controls the tail lights that has gone bad. It's not the brake light switch at the brake pedal because they would be on all the time. Actually, see if you step on the brake with the car off and keys out to see if the brake lights work. Usually you can put your foot on the brake pedal and the brake lights will come on.
Thx for your reply....but I just tried pressing the brake with car off and keys out and NO brake lights at all....:( I cant find nothing to substantiate its problem anywhere online with anybody who has ever had the same problem as me..its sooo burdensome and I cant drive the car at all just bcuz of this issue
It figures jaguars = endless money pits by design. On a normal car you could just replace the brake light switch located under the brake pedal and everything would be fine, but not here. Can anyone say planned obsolescence???
Lol I'm not surprised! Audis are the same way now I'm told. Instead of just replacing the bulb and having a working headlight again you actual have to reprogram the computer to tell it that the light has been replaced otherwise it will not work
The ones I fix actually have lights that raise when you turn them on. Plastic inside the assemblies break and they fall and point 5 feet in front of the car when they are turned on. Can't see down the road. So the dealer has to replace them. Some guy that works at a dealer told some people on the forum to pull a cover back and drive a 1-1/4" screw through the plastic lens at a certain spot which raises them up to the correct height to shine down the road.

Hmmm, that's the security module, so you had to reprogram the remote? Interesting

Not the other one.
Bad computer box back there. Best NOT to splice into wires.
@@RobertDIY I'll take another look, Robert.
Thankfully, there wasn't any water under the battery from the other night's flash flooding.

Robert, a very informative video. You are very easy to follow, as you go thru the steps. Hope you have more electrical videos.
Thanks for watching.

I have no idea
hi robert, did you get a bulb failure after the repair?

If anyone needs a link to the company In Idaho , hit me up and I'll post it in the comments , i believe it's called module master's
Cool, I did link another video with the proper repair in the comments.
hey Robert! tks for this video brother. I have that very same problem..
+Guilherme Demelo hope you get it worked out.
Hello, my 1993 jaguar xjs light stays on all the time but ONLY when the car is on..key is in...not when the car is off and the key is out...now what do you suggest? Thanks
Likely has "Day Driving Lights" activated. Check your owners manual as to how to turn them off.

Nice
you call this repair ?
Not really. Is there a link in the comments that shows the computer swap?
Here's another video on jaguars from our good friend Scotty Kilmer: ruclips.net/video/JoWZz1ckRGw/видео.html
LOL, Scotty is very inspirational. Now he is going to the Bahama's from his overview videos. Nice, when I grow up...
Hack!
Yep, until you replace the computer.

You should see the headlight fix for the 2003 S types. They want $2,850 to fix it. I found a fix on a forum for $0.08 worth of screws and 10 minutes.

Wow, what a brilliant design! Lol
You should check out Scotty Kilmer's videos on BMW water pumps & oil dipsticks, also there's one called why not to buy a Mercedes. It's hilarious!
