My thoughts exactly. Yes that was an easy fix. Not too often you see that on a Jaguar. Their electrical system is pretty straight forward. As you saw the switches are operated on the ground side making it simpler to diagnose. Its a far cry from the old Lucas positive ground system. This IMO is a gr8 electrical system. Designed by Ford of Europe. Have a gr8 God blessed day.
I had similar problem with 1994 Nissan Pick up truck. No left high beam. No high beam indicator on dash. Everything else work fine. My stepdad (he’s old school) think it might be broken wire. My electrical skills before wasn’t that good. Now it’s getting better and can read wiring diagram. So I checked it out. Wiring was fine and bulb was fine. I ordered two parts (switch/connector) because there no anything else to check. Doesn’t have BCM or daylight saving. Turned out it was faulty headlight or Multi-Function Combination switch I thought it was terminal fit problem lol because terminal pin look bad.I learned something. I was like what...lol. All Headlight works and indicator is on when high beam on. Stupid switch 😁. My electrical skills are improving. Thanks to you and other channels like South Main Auto, ScannerDanner, other. Jaguars are notorious for electrical issues. Nice car but I would never own one, don`t need the headaches. Father in law unfortunately wasted money on BPM, hopefully he can return it. @@JuanOrtiz-mo8be Actually, the system with grounding signal wires instead of feeding them voltage is a pretty sound method from an electronics point of view. Good advice.
Excellent diagnosis! That car will be an entire series of videos in the future...That's a poor wire design that will break again...They should had a strain relief so the changing the stock does not pull/push on the solder connection...
Nice quick diagnose and repair! Theory of operation using the wiring diagram, major help. Without the wiring diagram it's like stumbling around in the dark. I know! Now the root cause is the motion of the wires when the switch is turned on. Fixing that to prevent another problem could be done by tieing the wires in such a way as to prevent stress at the connection point. Overall, Good Job!

Fantastic diagnosis Ivan. Well I was wrong with guess from the title. A few years back I had a Ford Fiesta (European Vehicle) with a complaint of no dash lights, Rev counter stopped working & no rear side and brake lights. Customer had fitted a single element build to a twin stop n tail bulb holder. This proves it is a must to gather as much info from the customer, when did it happen, any work carried out by the customer etc etc... Quick fix, but could of been disastrous in the wrong hands.
7:10 It's because you have to have at least the side and tail lights on, to make the front fog lights work. At least that how it is in Europe. In deep fog you can drive just with the sidelights and front fog lights, with your low beam off. It actually helps to see more on the road, because your low beam would just light up the fog in front of the car, when fog lights illuminate just the road surface, that's why they are mounted so low to the ground. However you have to light up the sidelights first, because it also turns on the rear tails lamps, and they have to be on to make your car visible on the road from the back. If your car has rear fog lamp, like does this Jaguar, you should be able to turn it on with just the sidelights and front fogs. Just FYI :)

great video ivan very good way to show the viewers even though there is a wiring problem sometimes a visual inspection is still needed also good way to demonstrate do not pre load the parts cannon lol
Nice fix Ivan! Could you do anything about the wiring moving/flexing every time you use the turn signal lever? Like the broken wire before, it will only be a matter of time before more broken wires. Shitty design (designed to fail)
Use hot glue or something similar to add a physical connection, instead of the metal solder connection only. Maybe some zip ties or something else to also let it bend further away from the connection point.
Ivan. Well done. I am soooo envious of the technical roadmaps you make appear so effortlessly. Where do you get those wiring diagrams and if from a subscription, where from and how much?? Without the roadmaps, you are most assuredly... lost.
I want to know this too. Wiring diagrams are the key to solving most of these issues but most DIY'ers don't have access to random wiring diagrams. I usually try to buy a factory service manual for the vehicles I own that usually have good wiring diagrams in them but if you are trying to help out friends or family on a wiring issue, you will be SOL.
It had to be a wire off, mostly grounds, any other on a British car will cause fuses to pop. If no fuses and the relays are fine, hunt for a ground wire that is off somewhere. They are not so bad as they used to be with bullet connectors that used to lay in water, rot and you were checking all the connectors that water could get at for a wire that looked fine, but in fact was rotted off inside the stupid bullet connector. You never see it till you move it as there can be up to four wires into double bullet connectors covered in rubber or plastic and often held by other wires in place. First thing if you find an old British car is shake the connectors that are outside exposed to weather. That fails to find the fault, it is a relay if one fault, or a ground that may have many wires grounded through it. Also body to engine earths are good on British cars. Any cables getting warm or smoking it is the engine to body ground. Not so easy to trace now with fuel injection etc, but still, if you have problems with British cars, check your grounds first if there is power.
Yes that's it for now . . . . you got yo love Ivan's persistence But it's just a matter of time, with an XJ8 of any vintage, before it becomes a large brick. I think manufacturers skimp on wiring length at times, thus causing broken wires. Every time you move that switch for high beams or flash to pass, it flexes the wires.
I'm at a toss-up between bean counters having pushed for it to be short-cut/cheaper and just purse brain-washed stooge fool engineering ;) it;s a very big toss-up or both, but maybe the wiring was subcontracted to some dunce corp that shorted them? also, too low count wire composition... it needed higher small gauge strands with flexible coating.
