- The DJI RS3 Mini might be the best compact gimbal on the market - but it still suffers from the same problem that a lot of gimbals have...the mounting plate is terrible and never works with any of my other gear. Well - I fixed that! Learn how I've improved the RS3 MINI - no tools involved - so that I can use all of my quick release accessories with one plate.

thank so much, I was using F38 plate the last 3 years, so I bought this one and it is a game changer !
dude THANK YOU!!! I was having the exact same worries and I appreciate you for sharing this with us. Big career lifesaver
Thanks a lot for that fix bro ! Love it !!!!
Amazing examples dude!!!
Awesome. Just got thr rs3 mini and this attachment will solve the plate issues. Thx!
I love your honesty & personality young man
Well explained. You've got yourself +1 subscriber 😎
Cool Video, thanks for sharing.
You've helped me solve an issue I had with this gimbal. 👍😉👊
Hi man, thank you for the video. Do you think it will fit the Leofoto NP-65? I just got this, and it's perfect to be able to just snap my shoulder strap on and off, quickly attach it to my tripod but sadly it doesnt work with the mounting plate on the RS3 Mini. This looks like it might be a solution, but as you can see, it's not square and im afraid it wont fit?
Thanks a lot, i did it and it's so perfect !
Quick question, if i have 2 peak design anchor attached to the arca swiss plate, will it get in the way when sliding it into the mount?
Does that plate work with the peak design clips? I imagining a bottom plate where I can connect the clips to so I can take it on and off the gimbal and clip my strap to it. It is hard to do apparently.
Match this up with Ulanzi camera cage and you will have a very versatile system for vertical mode
you are a hero! perfect, thanx!!!
hello would you recommend this gimbal for my Sony a7iii with a 24-105 lens?
Hi Mr. Wong,
Do you have a similar solution for the new Crane M3S? It has a redesign quick release plate but that base plate is still not a standard size for all my tripod.
Great video, and thank you 👍
can the small rig mount plate be used for vertical mounting with arca swiss mount
does the peak design quick release plate work on this system?
Cmon! Thanks for this bro!
I wish they had one that would work with the rs2 plate. As the the falcam one doesn’t look like it’s work with the arca on a camera cage, which is unfortunate :(
Brooooooo, you are the best!!!!
How does changing that mounting plate affect balancing? when you switch lenses wouldn’t that change your center of balance and limit the points at where you can balance camera?
Thank you, man!
Thanks for the video … I’m buying the adapter 👍🏻🙏🏻
Good video sharing!!!
This is the video I needed. I am upgrading from crane m3 and didn’t want to buy another plate when buying the rs3 mini
great video - very helpful. So, what mic do you have on that camera at the beginning? Is it a mic at all? very low profile.
Yup. That’s the Sony ECM W2BT wireless mic. It works with the multi interface hotshot on the Sony.
Hi @Desmond so this plate is for Zhiyun M3 right? And it is also compatible with the Rs3 Mini?
I had the same question, since the link goes to a Crane M3 arm/plate. I also noticed there is a version for the Rs3 mini but doesn't have the arm (this version shows vertical mounting). Any insight to this Desmond?
I heard that was a big issue with this product. Have you heard of the Falcam quick release plate and arm? I want to know if this would be another option to consider too.
Hey man ! I have the peak design camera clip on the bottom of my camera, have you tested that quick release system with it? Thanks
The peak design clip does not work with the Falcam F38 plate. The peak design clips are slightly larger so they don’t fit.
@@ItsDesmond Alright! thanks man
@@YoussefHallouly Any ways to get capture clip system to work with something like this?
Does this method work with a full cage? BTW, I have read reviews about the F38 plate becoming loose easy. IDK, if I'd trust my camera with the F38 plate...
you can go with the f38 cage
The F38 plate works with PD mounting? Does it lock into the Capture clip, or only with the tripod?
It locked into the PD Capture Clip - but not perfectly. Although Im certain it wont fall out once the locking mechanism is engaged. With that said - just order the F38 capture clip style accessory. They're half the price and I've been able to just grab a bunch of them for all my bags and straps. AND YES - 100% works with peak design travel tripod - locks, fits, secure. No additional mods needed for that.
Hello what did you use for quick release for the small tripod on your rs3 mini?
That’s the Pgytech mantis pro. Love that mini tripod a lot.
Good hint!
Brilliant video! Totally agreed :)
very very goooooooooood!!!!!!!!! bro ~
So does the Ulanzi F38 quick release plates lock into the PGYTech Mantispod Pro? I’ve heard great things about this system as well as the new carbon fiber tripod they have and wanted to go all in on this vs the PD system(just preference) and wanted to know are they compatible with the mini vlog tripod from PGYTech?
It’s doesn’t lock into the existing PGYtech mechanism. What I did was order a simple F38 mounting plate that I use to make it fit better. The good news - Ulanzi F38 accessories are crazy cheap. The mounting plate was like 18 bucks AND adds almost no bulk to the set up.
Personally - I’ve enjoyed the PD system for a while - BUT - with the way manufacturing and technology has moved - you can get the same features and function for way less than the $70 capture clip and the other accessories. They paved the way for this type of QR system - but in 2023 - you should not be paying $70 for a QR clip…
@@ItsDesmond So basically the mounting plate from Ulanzi is replacing their snaplock plate if I’m understanding you correctly?
@@DCC2105 correct. Replaces the entire mechanism which includes the snap lock plate and the bottom arm that the snap lock plate locks onto. So technically you can still use the snap lock plate for vertical shooting if you wanted - just swap out the Ulanzi one for the DJI one on the bottom of your camera.
Imagine me waiting till the 7th minute before I was told I’m still finna need to buy more gear to the already expensive gimbal
Thanks soo much
Thank you
ulanzi has one for RS3. is there a difference between that and the m3s plate that u got? i have a rs3 mini too
Same question
The first thing I noticed when I unpacked this RS3 mini was the annoying mounting plate. Guess that dji designed it this way for the vertical mount maybe. But it's annoying. And... Honestly... Who cares vertical shot, I just need a slim and reliable stabilizer that doesn't steal all the backpack space. You saved my day thanks!
i care, i market using instagram reels & etc. the vertical shot helps me alot :) might not be for you, but it is for others!
@@iz5442 That's right. Sure if DJI did this there is a marketing reason. It was more a personal consideration, sorry 🙂
@@UmbertoUderzo hahaha i get it, not triggered in anyway. have a good day :)
haha same thing. I cringe about the vertical mode. such a waste of feature.
Hello! This plate is for crane m3, but it fits rs3 mini, right?
Fits perfectly! Even easier to install in the RS3 Mini than the Crane M3
I have the exact opposite opinion on this mount, as I use taller pro lenses. I think saving 30 seconds to change plates is exclusively a RUclips problem unless you are a wedding shooter. To each their own I suppose
I need your direct link so I can purchase
Hi I just ordered the RS3 Mini for my FX3. I'm wondering if other brand Arka-Swiss type plates fit into the F38 base. I have a SmallRig cage with arca-swiss built into the bottom, as well as some other arca plates and tripod mounts. There's a pre-order Falcam F38 Quick Release For DJI RS 3 Mini I'm thinking about ordering, but I want to have one plate that goes to both my tripod as well as the gimbal. Thanks for any input you have.
Hello fellow fx3 owner here, I'm having issues balancing mine with my tilta cage and newer lighter 24-70gmii set @ 24mm in landscape. How are you doing with your setup?
I have to take off my tilta cage, because camera is too high for balancing tilt. But I think this thinner f38 option may be good? But I dont see the safety screws on bottom which scares me having $7k one slip away from disaster :)
@@aleckinch1199 So far I’m just taking the cage off to use the gimbal. Small rig came out with a new plate and arm for the RS3 and the plate just shipped, so I don’t have it. But look on their site for more into. I too want to keep my cage on and go between tripod and gimbal b
@@ChadWork1 "keep cage on" EXACTLY!! I will check it out . Thx 4 reply. let me know how it goes!
So Ulanzi just released a F38 quick release kit for this gimbal and you can use it with their cage on your camera as well. It looks great
Yeah! I saw. They’re gonna send me one to review. Will post something once I get a chance to test it out.
@@ItsDesmond did you get a chance to review it? Might get this plate or the M3 plate!
@@ItsDesmondany difference?
I bought this plate, and I found that it does not work well with my PGYTECH mounting system. The plate attached to the camera is a little smaller, and therefore when on my Mantis Pod v1, it does not lock in and can slide forward and backward. If I put my pgytech camera plate on, that does not fit the Falcam. However, I did find that the supplied Arca Swiss plate DOES work with all accessories, including the Peak Design tripod. I will be sending it back. I think I am going to purchase the PGYTECH plate for the RS3 Mini.
Could you just use the peak design plate in this clip? I don't want to change all my plates.
No. The peak plate does not fit. Although I have seen people modify the peak plate to work. It requires some tooling.
I am frustrated, I just sol my crane m3, and gave the guy the quick release plate because I told him it wouldn't worked with my new gimbal... errrrrg. Time to buy another one! thanks for the vid!
If you buy the falcam cage for your camera you can use it in vertical mode without have to change de plate 😁
And add the weight of the cage to the gimbal setup. Not favorable for more people than less.
🔥🔥
Does this plate work with peak design capture clip?
It does! But I’ve actually swapped to the Ulanzi F38 capture clip style accessory!
I've watched more reviews on the f38 and everyone says the peak design plate does not work
@@tidalfluxofficial the Peak Design Plate does not work with Falcams F38 mounts. But the Falcam plate works on most of the peak design items like the travel tripod. I’ve got it in the capture clip locked - and it does fit and lock. But I wouldn’t recommend using the F38 with the Peak Design capture clip. I’ve already switch my capture clips to the Falcam versions for ease of use.
@@ItsDesmond I just shaved down the bottom of the peak design plate with a dremel and it works with the rs3 mini original arca mount. I didnt want to give up vertical use or my backpack clips.
Good video tho and great for F38 users!
Brother, you are a LIFESAVER. Just got my RS3 mini a few hours ago and was scratching my head how the fuck do I put that hideous adapter, take it on-off, etc. Was considering timing myself doing that to get better (army style) hahaha. Thanks for the suggestion!
SMallrig 4195 is coming up
The Ulanzi plate has some bad reviews from people who ordered it for this very application. The had trouble mounting it and it wouldn’t tighten. Now I’m scared. B&H has it for $39.00.

ok ok ok ... nice , until you buy it . 1 reason I love and 2 stupid reasons I hate it . reason why I love iy st that you don't have to deal with tat stupid DJI pouting plate its just so dumb , and the only thing you have to to so that your arcaswift plate works with the DJI rs 3 mini is to take out that safety screw . you don't have to buy anything else. with that said the Upgrade with Falcam is in fact just a waist of money. the 2 reasons I hate it : 1st reason : only the plate that comes with it ist working so if you have like me arcaswift plate its no gonna fit !!! ( that was the entire point for me tu buy the FALCAM . and the 2nd reason why I hate it is that even if you would buy more mounting plate for all your cameras and you already have peak design quick release plate on your backpack it is gonna fit but the safety mechanism its not gonna work coz the plate is to small . don't get me wrong .. nice video and thanks for doing it but I bought that thing for 70$ and I can't even return it can they don't have a return / insurance policy . what I want so say is that you have to do your research on your own and don't take for granted what you see in a video. im sorry for my bad English . have a nice day
Ulanzi F38 plate right?
Yes! It’s their F38 for the Zhiyun Crane M3. BUT they recently sent me the newest RS3 Mini version. Both work great
@@ItsDesmond thanks for the video im still torn buying RS3 mini coz i need to shoot in vertical mode most of the time. I just sold my weebill 3
@@gishmagazine1670 the newest Ulanzi RS3 mini mounting plate works with the vertical shooting mode!
@@ItsDesmond May I have the link for RS3 Mini version? Thanks
"The mounting option are pretty shitty" lol
They designed it that way to clear wider lens…
That’s really good to know! Makes sense. Any examples of a lens that would need that clearance that could still stay within the weight limits? My mind is going to larger cine lenses.
@@ItsDesmond The Sony 50mm 1.2 and Sony 85mm 1.8 are weird like that with some gimbals..
@@EverythingFilmmaking good point. I’ve used the 50 1.2 and I actually think that lens might be over the weight limit at that point. Its heavier than my 24-70 😭 and that’s already hitting the limits of the gimbal in my opinion.
@@ItsDesmond would the new 50 F1.4 Gm handle the mini gimbal.
@@edwincolon766 100% - its smaller and lighter than the 24-70 GM II

balanced? but you locked it
DEAR FRIEND! the only reason why dji, zhiyun, etc don't make universal quick release simply has an answer (business). they also do it so that people like you make this kind of videos, generating more sales in other brands, everything is a consumerism empire, if they wanted to have a camera and a stabilizer with ALL the capabilities they wouldn't have more customers. All brands need: sales and more sales.
Oh and one last thing, thanks for sharing, now I'm going to amazon to buy one of these things so I can put my fx3 on a tripod without having to change the stupid dji quick release.
Video could have been 2min
Omg stop whining lol , if you modification allows your camera to fall you re better off with the one dji provides..
Hi,great solution, and lately we have a new dedicated item for DJI RS3 Mini now
