I'm afraid I haven't watched any tutorials. If you're properly balanced, it should be fine, but if it goes crazy, which it sometimes does if it gets to an angle it can't handle or gets hit, so quickly put the motors to sleep, that happens to me like 0.1% of the time though, but yes, it has happened. Well, you set your first shot, then move the gimbal and set your next shot, the gimbal has no idea what your panorama or time-lapse is meant to look like as it can't read your mind, it needs inputting Johnny 5. Once you do it a couple of times you'll get the hang of it, don't worry.
@@PhillipSkraba Sorry, I mean, the base plate and plate that the DJI comes with. Would I be able to attatch a PGY quickrelease baseplate on top of the DJI plate attatched to its own baseplate and then a PGY quickrelease plate on to the camera and then ultimately the camera will sit a big higher on the gimbal than attatching directly to the DJI plate.
I don’t know how it is with gimbals, but I know with tripods one should never be anywhere near their max loads. The “can” handle it, but wont have stable support. Is it the same with gimbals? So for example if you have a 1.5kg camera would the RS3 give more stable footage? Since it has more powerful motors. Does the mini have the super smooth mode or the RS3? The RS3 looks like it comes with a Manfrotto plate, is that right? My video tripods are all Manfrotto plate. Trying to decide between RS3 and mini but still haven’t found a good comparison?
If you're using a $20 tripod that's usually not a good idea, but on a Sachtler or even Manfrotto I find that's less of a problem. The DJI RS 3 Mini can handle 2kg, but it'll feel it, I feel it, it's smooth, and it works, but it's much happier with half of that weight on it. I personally don't own the RS 3, I've used it on a few occasions, both are great gimbals, it really depends on if you want a small travel gimbal or a larger gimbal with image transmission. Some people feel they need that, others don't. I will be using the RS 3 Mini most of the time, unless I need image transmission and cine lenses with a focus motor.
Hi Phillip, nice video, can you tell what phone mounts will work with this, specific to the iPhone 14 pro max, and what additional clamps we will need, if any. Thanks
Yes, you are 100% correct. My plate from the Pgytech Beetle Clip does not work, however, I just tested the Pgytech MantisPod v1 and MantisPod v2, and it works, tight as hell, but it works. THANKS for the heads up!
Just found this other video of yours. I should've watched this before commenting on the other one haha. Time to figure out how to attach a Rode Videomic Go II on this thing.
is there a SmallRig Quick Release Plate with Arca-Swiss that can be used on the rs3 mini? I want use the PeakDesign plate on my camera for several reasons
I have no idea about the SmallRig plate. The PD won't work, but the DJI plate will go into the Peak Design Clip v3, as I've tested it, it slides in and locks. It's a little loose compared to the PD, but it won't fall out.
I don't personally own one, but seeing it weights 382g, add a lens, yep, you should be fine. I've had the Action 3 on it, and I even put my iPhone on it and it worked fine, so sure, that should work no problems.
Philip, thank you for such an informative, in-depth video. You just saved me a load of money! I’ve only just got my RS3 mini and I’m in the transition from DSLR to Mirrorless so using the Nikon FTZ adapter with my old F mount Nikon lenses on a Z6ii. I hadn’t even attempted using my Nikkor 14-24 f2.8 on the RS3 Mini as its a beast, but I love it for architectural interiors and I want to make more videos. It never even occurred to me to even try to use it until I came across this tutorial and WOW!!! you hint about removing the eyepiece was the clincher 😂. Well done and my family thanks you for keeping me out of debt 😊
I have a question for you @PhillipSkraba. I have the same thing in mind and wanting to have a quick mic setup with small rig and light weight gimbal. would a sony a1 with a 50mm 1.2 work this way. i was looking for a mic setup with adding it on top of the camera. the only concern is would the video and audio match the recording ? would this be all bluetooth connection? you also mention the cell phone monitor hook up which is really amazing specially if you want to use what you got without costing too much. to me this setup would work amazing in my head but just need to know if that weight would handle it.
I always use the phone as a monitor nowadays. As for the audio, if I have wireless audio I clap my audio in so I have a visual and audio aid when it come to editing to match video and sound, so that's not a problem at all.
Hi! It'll work just fine, if it films video and has a 1/4 20" hole at the bottom (it has both), then you'll have no problems at all. It weighs 730g, so below the 2kg limit, and with a lens it should not be much more than 1.5k in total I'm guessing, so you should be good to go!
Maybe you can review the gimbal, what if the gimbal place on the bag, sling and backpack or whatever size bag, possibility dji rs3 with that size on the minimum space bag or compact bag. iam so curious about that, because dji rs3 born for travel videographer, or we call 1 manshow with compact setup.
This is really helpful - I just bought this gimbal and your video is the first one to lay it informatively. So - here's a question - have you tried putting a phone on it? I often shoot with my phone and the Movi Gimbal but had hoped to use the RS3mini. I tried and the balancing just screams at me! I'd love to see your set up.
What is it with everyone calling everyone bro?! My name is Phillip, it says so on my channel name, your name is Afnish, let's keep it like that. I don't pull my screen out, and even if I do in underslung mode, it makes no difference to the motors, at all.
@@PhillipSkraba the only thing I'm afraid of is that the gimbal gets crazy sometimes and starts bashing against the limiters. I'm almost ok with hitting the lens or hood but hitting the display is no no 😂 They just released an update that might fix some of those situations but unfortunately I couldn't try it bc the yaw axis failed on my RS3 Mini. Just after 3 mo.
Well, it would be hard, but you could use the PDMovie, it's light, it's small and it doesn't require any cables, so it does work. Any other follow focus units would be hard to use on this gimbal. I'm actually making a review of the PDMovie, I'll add a sequence where I use it on the gimbal.

Do you also have this issue that the RS3 Mini is vibrating and making a slight noise, almost rhythmically? Even when you use a really light setup, with the gimbal properly balanced of course. I am aware of the fact that inside a gimbal there are moving pieces and there should be some noise and vibrations but these seem different than any other gimbal. If anybody has the same issue or if you know that is normal for it to do so please let me know. DJI customer care seem to think that there is no issue, but they were kind and invited me to sent the gimbal to be checked. I don't know how much time that would take, I probably will return it since I bought it off of Amazon and it's only been almost two weeks I have it.
@@PhillipSkraba it was balanced. Even the app Ronin checked it and displayed Excellent. Mabye you got lucky for great piece. My RS3 Mini can balance only combo under 1kg.

1st thanks for your nice and amazing videos.. I am using my setup for dental shooting , but I want to dive through vediography , want to do artistic dental vediography. . So I want to ask if the dji 3 mini will handle my setup . That's my current setup , Canon eosR with Canon macro lens 100mm RF . Also, I want to ask if can I fix led light on the cam. I will be mainly shooting faces , smiles & and teeth, so I need very sharp results & want to get all the fine details of the teeth , And sure, i want to shoot with 4K, but it's extremely difficult because of the crop broblem , i was thinking about 14 - 35 RF , or the 24 - 70 RF .. SO what do u recommend & if there is a better option. Regading light, i had a pair of the Godox M1 RGB Mini , but I don't know how will it be the result yet .. what do you think ?? And how can I fix the light on the dji mini rs3 Sorry for the long question. Thanks & best regards
Hi. I think you have made the final review of this mini. This is the best review on the net about this new gimbal. Thank you so much for this. May I ask do you think it can handle an r5 with rf 24-105 f4 with no problem at all? Or maybe the motor will be over stressed in some movements? Thanks a lot.
I’ll be doing more videos with it as it’s a really great gimbal! I think it should be able to handle it, if it can handle the 1.4kg Irix it should handle the 700g 24-105 f4 👌🏻 The Sony 24-70GM is 200g heavier and it handles it with zero problems at all.
thank you so much for your hands-on test .... I have just purchased the canon R6II with the kit 24-105mm zoom lens ... and it balances on the Ronin SC but there is not enough room behind ... I was wondering about the DJI RS Mini .... but it seems to have the same problem: the motors can handle the weight ... but there is not enough space and the eyecup hits the back of the gimbal ... so I wonder if it is worth upgrading from the Ronin SC to the RS Mini ....
Thanks for this! Has anyone else had issues pairing this with a Sony A7IV? Doesn't seem to want to pair over BT. Have been on with support but not got anywhere.
@@PhillipSkraba update: somehow got it working. Can't be sure but I think what I had to do was make sure the A7IV was NOT in the menu/pairing mode, then first start the BT pairing from the r3mini, THEN start BT pairing mode from the A7IV and it worked. Or something like that.

This time the end wasn't as energetic as the last video, but still very authentic and nice. Very good and informative video and by far one of the best on RUclips about this gimbal, especially for responding to questions from your community. DJI should sponsor you. I also have a question, maybe you can answer it in another video or as a comment. Can the gimbal also be used with an iPhone so that it replaces the DJI OM 6?
You said in the beginning of the video that the DJI Action 3 was balanced, but you're supposed to balance it so that it does not move anywhere when you rotate it, it is not supposed to come back to the centre. Great video!
I have the Ronin S too, it was my first electronic gimbal, and I used it a LOT, but this is a totally different level in power and smoothness, and of course it weighs less than half of the DJI Ronin S.

Managed to get Ulanzi F38 plates to work by using an F38 quick release baseplate and a bit of gaffer tape on the edge to thicken up the surface edge enough for the lever to clamp on to it. Then using the F38 plate to dock into that. A little sketchy since you can't use the locking pin so it sits off center a bit, but good in a pinch or while waiting for Ulanzi to make a native mount for it. From my testing it sits extremely tight and wouldn't come off despite me trying to gorilla pull it off.
I tried tightening the screw to pull the clamp in closer but it was still loose, so put the F38 back lol. I am happy that the DJI plate at least fits in the PD Clip!

Hey Phillip! thank you for the RavenEye confirmation checked! I nearly sold my RSC2 Combo Pro for this. I am in dilemma right now to sell or not to sell, cos I will be flying off to Japan in May for vlogging.
From what I’m seeing no tracking, no RavenEye, and I don’t think DJI will add it, it would compromise RS 3 sales… and there is no place to attach the RavenEye except for on the hotshoe which would impair its ability to go into underslung mode. For vlogging, it’s amazing, lightweight, small, no doubt a winner!

Well, you set your first shot, then move the gimbal and set your next shot, the gimbal has no idea what your panorama or time-lapse is meant to look like as it can't read your mind, it needs inputting Johnny 5. Once you do it a couple of times you'll get the hang of it, don't worry.
what a nice tutorial my man , all information needed in one video , Thanks a lot
Thank You! I'm happy it's appealing to so many people.
Thanks for all your help and guidance much appreciated, hoping to get my gimbal tomorrow with the accessories you have recommended,
You're welcome! I'm sure you're going to love it!
Would it be possible to attatch the PGY baseplate on top of the plate that comes with camera and the then use a PGY quick release plate on the camera?
Lost lol. The Pgytech plates work and don't work, it's like a roulette.
Great video! Does this handle the weight with your sony camera with a cage on and a lens? Thanks!
It can, but I take mine off most of the time to not stress it out depending on the lens.
Pretty impressive for a gimbal this compact. Tempted to get the RS3 Mini!
It is very, very impressive! More videos coming.
I will be using the RS 3 Mini most of the time, unless I need image transmission and cine lenses with a focus motor.
focus mortor ???
Nope, not on this one.
Can iPhone 13pro max be mounted by any chance ? Do we have some attachment available?
I have mounted my iPhone 12 Pro Max, and it worked, so sure, it seems so! I use a Manfrotto phone clip.
@@PhillipSkraba okay, Thank you for replying Phillip 😊
@@PhillipSkraba can you please also share the link of the product "Manfrotto phone clip"
Hi Phillip, nice video, can you tell what phone mounts will work with this, specific to the iPhone 14 pro max, and what additional clamps we will need, if any. Thanks
Hi, thanks! It's the DJI phone mount I use, there is only one and it does a really good job. It's this one - amzn.to/3w33uqQ
Will it Handel S5 II with 24-70 2.8 sigma lens with a shotgun mic and work properly??? Please reply
It should be within the weight limit, I’d attach said mic to the side of the gimbal though.
Keep focus control on gimbal and use app for monitor??
I find I feel best with the Sony app connected and that keeps me nice and lightweight.
I think you are wrong for mentioning the plate. It is because I got the PGY plate (from mantispod) and it well fit for DJI RS3 mini.
I'll be making a few more on the RS 3 Mini, it's quickly becoming a favourite of mine.
@@PhillipSkraba heck ya! I'll watch them all!
@@poiisondn haha, thanks!
is there a SmallRig Quick Release Plate with Arca-Swiss that can be used on the rs3 mini?
I want use the PeakDesign plate on my camera for several reasons
I have no idea about the SmallRig plate. The PD won't work, but the DJI plate will go into the Peak Design Clip v3, as I've tested it, it slides in and locks. It's a little loose compared to the PD, but it won't fall out.
can it handle Tamron 35-150 f2.0-2.8 :D
Weight wise it should do, it may be too front heavy though, the Irix weighs 200g more mind you…
@@PhillipSkraba great and thanks, I'm eyeing on this gimbal too, it looks great and affordable for a beginner like me :)
It is very affordable and super strong for its size, mind you those motors are pretty meaty 🤘🏻
i am wondering the exact same question but if too front heavy it will just mean using counterweight i think...
thanks for the info…quick question can i use the canon r10 with the rs3 mini
Do you think I can put an older DSLR (in my case a canon eos 1300d) on it? It wont work on a zhyun Gimbal, the support told me.
If it films video, sure it will, I can put a chicken on here (under 2kg) and it will work.
@@PhillipSkraba Alright thanks ^^
If this was released earlier, I may have bought this instead of Moza Aircross 2.
Hell yes!
Why does he clap? Serious question
Great video and very informative, thank you.
Thank You, I’m glad you liked it!
Hi can I use it with sony A7iv combine with 24-70 gm ii?
You sure can do 👌🏻
I have a question for you @PhillipSkraba.
I really like the styling of this video. Did you use any filters? Looks amazing. …I am on the cusp of choosing a gimbal. Analysis paralysis.
16:30 👍🙏
Hi will the gimbal work with a Canon EOS 80D? As everyone keeps talking about mirrorless cameras in the promotional bumph. Thanks in advance.
Hi! It'll work just fine, if it films video and has a 1/4 20" hole at the bottom (it has both), then you'll have no problems at all. It weighs 730g, so below the 2kg limit, and with a lens it should not be much more than 1.5k in total I'm guessing, so you should be good to go!
@@PhillipSkraba Cheers for that, can link to iPad and iPhone as well so quids in hopefully, now to rob a bank as I need loads of other kit 😂🤪🤭
@@TrogART That's a sound plan to get more kit!!

Maybe you can review the gimbal, what if the gimbal place on the bag, sling and backpack or whatever size bag, possibility dji rs3 with that size on the minimum space bag or compact bag. iam so curious about that, because dji rs3 born for travel videographer, or we call 1 manshow with compact setup.
sory, dji rs3 mini
You'd like me to show you what it looks like in a bag?
@@PhillipSkraba yess please if you want to do :)
RavenEye can work as simple video-sender it self. So we just lose the tracking and remote control.
15:30 This tutorial coming directly from the clouds of heaven 🙌🦄
Thank You! Glad it helped!
Oh - and which monitor is that?
Bro your flip screen should be out before balancing. you flip it after the balance which will also effect the balance.
Can anyone tell me If I can use a focus motor on RS3 mini ? if yes what are the options ?
Well, it would be hard, but you could use the PDMovie, it's light, it's small and it doesn't require any cables, so it does work. Any other follow focus units would be hard to use on this gimbal. I'm actually making a review of the PDMovie, I'll add a sequence where I use it on the gimbal.
Most informative video of them all out there! No bullshit!!! Keep up the good work! 🙂
Thank You! I like doing these sometimes, it breaks the system haha!
Man what is the name of the thing is holding the mic
It will hold 2kg as you can see from my video, if you watched it. Though you'll be more comfortable at say 1.5kg no doubt.
The mic is kinda pointless, it will be pointing on a fixed place but the camera will be pointing different places, so… wont work
Correct, but people like to see it's possible, I connect my DJI Mic to it and use it wirelessly.
That’s for the build examples. I looked around a bunch and couldn’t find anything like this. Means a lot.
You're welcome, glad I could help!
What made you record a video with absolutely blinding light behind you ruining it entirely
Well Troy, I’ve been waiting for you to ask that question since I posted it, and you’ve taken your time. It wasn’t made to share my experiences with others on this gimbal, but to solely piss you off, and I think I did a fanfuckingtastic job at that. Amen.
M getting error 1009!during auto check. Plz help
Oh gosh no idea, find the troubleshoot manual.
No it cant handle 2kg. My RS3 Mini cant handle even less (Sony A7iii + Sigma 28-70mm).
Balance my friend, it’s all in the balance… I showed you in this video that it can be done.
@@PhillipSkraba it was balanced. Even the app Ronin checked it and displayed Excellent. Mabye you got lucky for great piece. My RS3 Mini can balance only combo under 1kg.

What adapter to use to mount your action 3 camera on the rs3 mini? I have an insta 360 ace pro camera.
Well, any adapter with a 1/4 20" really, that works fine. Mind you, an Action 3 on the RS 3 Mini? That's wild!
What are the things you dislike on this gimbal?
The lack of active track, that’s the one thing 🔥
@@PhillipSkraba Im using a ronin s right now. Do you think its a good idea to upgrade and get the mini? Is the weight a great trade off?

@@PhillipSkraba thank you for answering. Really appreciated.
Anytime!
thank you so much for your hands-on test ....
Take off the eyecup, and use the riser to get it a 1cm higher and then push it back, it should solve the problem.
Thanks for this! Has anyone else had issues pairing this with a Sony A7IV? Doesn't seem to want to pair over BT. Have been on with support but not got anywhere.

I also encountered the same problem with my Peak Design plates. Tried adjusting the locking lever in hopes it would fit but no luck. Good to know that the DJI plate will fit the PD capture clip though. Thanks for the video
Yes, I tried everything but no luck. The Pgytech MantisPod plate works, but not the Pgytech Beetle Clip which looks identical, odd stuff. Yes, the DJI will fit and lock into the PD Clip.
@@PhillipSkraba man. I do wonder if a streamline workflow exists for traveling with a peak design tripod, capture clips and dji rs3 mini, or dji rs3. Because the DJI plate might work in the clip, but I'm sure it wont work on the tripod.

Not better but cheaper ones . This is overkill for a pixel.

big help, thanx! wonder if the canon r6 mark ii with the RF 24-105MM F/4L IS USM will fit...
I use the Lumix S5 along with 20-60 kit lens and 85mm prime, I plan on shooting a lot travel stuff and some commercial industrial shoots. Should I get this or the RS3?

Hey Phillip! thank you for the RavenEye confirmation checked! I nearly sold my RSC2 Combo Pro for this. I am in dilemma right now to sell or not to sell, cos I will be flying off to Japan in May for vlogging.
From what I’m seeing no tracking, no RavenEye, and I don’t think DJI will add it, it would compromise RS 3 sales… and there is no place to attach the RavenEye except for on the hotshoe which would impair its ability to go into underslung mode. For vlogging, it’s amazing, lightweight, small, no doubt a winner!
@@PhillipSkraba Thanks for getting back to me Phillip! What if if you have have RSC2 Pro Combo and RS3 Mini. which one will you choose?
