Lyrics:
We are the youth
We'll take your fascism away
We are the youth
Apologise for another day
We are the youth
And politicians are so sure
We are the youth
And we are knocking on death's door
Never knew we were living in a world
With a mind that could be so sure
Never knew we were living in a world
With a mind that could be so small
Never knew we were living in a world
And the world is an open court
Maybe we don't want to live in a world
Where innocence is so short
We'll make it up to you
in the year 2000 with...
Never knew we were living in a world
With a mind that could be so sure
Never knew we were living in a world
With a mind that could be so small
Never knew we were living in a world
And the world is an open court
Maybe we don't want to live in a world
Where innocence is so short
We'll make it up to you
In the year 2000
Build it up for you
In the year 2000
Make it up to you
In the year 2000
Build it up for you
In the year 2000 with you
Never knew we were living in a world
With a world that could be so sure
Never knew we were living in a world
With a mind that could be so small
Never knew we were living in a world
And the world is an open court
Maybe we don't want to live in a world
World who cares at all
We'll make it up to you

Build it up for you
In the year 2000
Make it hard for you
In the year 2000
Build it up for you
In the year 2000
Make it hard for you
In the year 2000

In the year 2000 with you

Wow this song still so relevant in the year 2024. This whole album is incredible 🖤

I worked on this clip. When the water cannon and smoke kicks in thats what I was involved in. It's spooky how this song / clip were so ahead of the time. Considering whats gone on during 2020 / 2021 Silverchair certainly had a crystal ball.
Politics has always been a contentious issue. But I know what you mean

That crystal ball was on the cover of The Door.
We'll be doing this until the end of time 😔

I'm so proud I grew up in the 90's. I was born on January of 1985 & I can honestly tell you, the 90's music, cartoons & television shows were the best. You can always go back & watch these shows & hear these songs on RUclips but you can never recapture the magic of an era as it was happening. 22 and 43 here. You know what song really hits me with that holy crap moment? Blink 182 - What's My Age Again. It's that "nobody likes you when you're 23" line.
I'm turning 41 and still rock this song
Wish I was you
Late to respond to this, but I first heard this in late 1999 at the age of 13. I turned 34 this year, and it's frightening. I was too young to really appreciate the lyrics back then, but I have to say that Daniel Johns was really ahead of his time. I had a classmate who was a huge Silverchair fan. I ended up buying this album just to see what the deal was.
These kids were ridiculously talented, and had some seriously deep lyrics. Especially considering when Frogstomp was released they were like 15, and most of it was written when they were even younger than that. Still an album I will throw on from time to time for a rocking shot of 90's nostalgia and teenage angst. 🤘
With a CD no doubt :P

Took me 20 years to understand this song. I was 16 when I heard it, now I am 36. And now it finally means something to me. We are still the youth of the year 2000, and now is our time.
Our time to do hwhat?

A nice heavy song for Silverchair. I remember wishing that they did more heAvy songs like this
Yeah, Neon ballroom was not as heavy as frogstomp or freak show but it has their heavy moments, specially spawn again which is their most aggressive song ever written by them (in terms of music, not lyrically)
How is spawn again NOT lyrically aggressive? These are the facts so eat what you murder. Eight billion killed for human pleasure.
Tesla Death Ray kinda, the lyrics are pro-peta which I think is pretty acceptable considering many animals are endangered but the music needs a different kind of lyrics..like pure massacre

'Maybe we don't want to live in a world where our innocence is so short'
What a clever line that speaks so true in 2024 for our kids growing up in the current world!
He's gorgeous in this vid
By "gorgeous" you mean obviously suffering from a debilitating eating disorder that not only damaged his body but his mind and relationships with family and friends.
You exemplify what is wrong with societal norms - for decades people have been fighting back against the idea that painfully thin, gaunt and drawn humans are the epitome of beauty. And you've learnt nothing from Daniel's suffering.
@@warrenjensen4670 to be fair he does have good facial structure. No homo.
@@chillhomie7 Don't worry dude
He was beautiful in every video from Neon Ballroom. He's just a beautiful person/soul.
@@warrenjensen4670 he's just good looking in general, doesn't have to do with the fact he was very skinny here lol
Anyone else jamming this new years of 2020? I know I am... Just like I did in 2000.
we'll make it up to you in the year 3000
Coronavirus, racism and bullshit media's
I remember watching and listening to this clip in my living room, MTV was hard to get in my house, and then this came up, I was like "yeah right that will never happen!" Boy, I was wrong.
Why can't I hear this type of talent today on the radio ?
16 years ago and still fresh
HE IS JUST SO BEAUTITUL
Clássico esse som 👏👏👏👏👏🤘✌🎶
HE IS JUST SO BEAUTITUL
This man is a seer. To be that young and write and compose the music he did is extraordinary. Im sad he took his music in a different direction though. His early days and Chris Cornell are two that have the ability to reach the core, to the heart soul. Profound!
Rarely, if ever, did/do i see a band release an album/single and everyones watching and taking it all in and talking about the band. But that's what happened here with this one in 99. These guys were leading the way at the time.
we need some bands like this now in present day .........theirs no anger/angst in music these days.....no bands are standing aginst authority speaking their minds.... i miss the late 90s' early 00' sad times these are for music....
carnagemaster20 violent soho
carnagemaster20 Too much angst actually ruined music in the 90s. Go be an emo somewhere else.
Declan D'Agostino Exactly. Everyone should go listen to Violent Soho.
Kids are too busy taking selfies to pay enough attention to get angry.
Angst is just shock value created by edgy posers
Silverchair made a very chilling prediction of what we are living now in 2023. With a kick ass tune!
Hi I Recommend one of Daniel Johns favourite New IndieRock Songs called 'The Bond Villain' By Robert Nix
It wasn't a prediction. We've been living this since at least 84. They just update the tech.
✡️
I was definitely not this clever when I was 18. You’re all so incredible. Thank you for your amazing work
I remember listening to this as a 15 year old just before the year 2000. Had such a huge impact on me. Such great memories.
This is so good but you must hear “Whispering Wolf” or “The Wave” by SLT 🤘🎶🐺
This was the song that was played when the clock struck midnight on January 1st, 2000. I was 17, it was a house party, good times.
22 years later.. and here we are, we were happier back then, right?
And I just was born in 2000. This song a masterpiece!!! But I do not understand why there needs this old woman. Daniel is divine!:)
Well you obviously don't understand the song or the video if you don't know why the old "woman" is in the video
Born in the year 2000, wow I feel old. The old lady embodies fascism of all kinds not just the anti rock sentiment.
+Natasha Dyachuk Me too. I'm 22th march 2000. And you?
+James G Actually the new millennium starts in 2001. Because the wasn't the year 0. So, the count of millennium and century starts in the year 1. So, every millennium and century starts in the year 1. Like, 1, 1001, 2001. The 20th century and 2nd millennium ended in 31st December 2000
OMFG!? I finally found it!!! I've been humming this song for nearly 20 years. Never could find it except for the part where it says ''in the year 2000''...
Essa música é a cara do que estamos vivendo no Brasil em 2022!
