@@hmak5423 I didn't say I _hated_ Tool. I appreciate the talents & abilities of their band's members, especially the drummer. I just don't think they have good songwriting abilities. Most of their songs start off w/ random, seemingly pointless noises, followed by songs that just aren't pleasing to the ear. Writing songs that _sound_ good is important, don'tcha think? This song was on the album Rumours, which has gone platinum over 20 times since its release. To this day it still hangs out on the list of top selling albums with Hotel California, Dark Side of the Moon, and Thriller. So, while the song may be associated with some rocky memories, it also permanently changed the lives of every member of the band.
Not very many people react to this version of the song (my favorite version), so thank you. Lindsey's guitar solo at the end really shows how underrated a guitarist he is.
A good friend of mine was really into Classic Rock and I had asked him who his favorite guitar player was. I was expecting the usuals, Hendrix, Clapton, maybe Jeff beck, but no. He said Lindsey Buckingham. It made me really listen again. When I really payed attention to it, I understood why. Totally underrated.
Don't know much about their singing/great harmonies but Lindsey's exit solo is top tier, full of emotion and guitar mastery. Always found Mac's drumming style hard to copy, almost syncopated at times so I just did my own schtick. Stevie and Lindsey were shooting eye darts at each other at times and avoiding getting into each other's space when walking the stage.... ah the joy of doing a gig with an ex.
Beth, If you haven't yet, check out any song on the album Buckingham Nicks. They were recording this record when Mick Fleetwood asked them to join Fleetwood-Mac. The voices of a young Stevie and Lindsay are insane. Hearing that album - there is no doubt of the musical influence these two had on this amazing band. Every one of them are musical geniuses.
Hi There, Beth. I have only recently discovered your Channel by Accident. I love the way you analyse songs & vocal performances. Often during your review, I sit back & think "yeah, she's right, I've never noticed that'. Particularly in this song where their lives were in so much turmoil but they were able to put that aside & sing a beautiful, emotional song. And, as you said, Lindsey's guitar gave out so much feeling as well. I've only seen about 20 of your videos & every one of them has been constructive. Maybe you do, but, I've never heard you can a performance & they've varied from Brian Johnson to Sinead O'Connor. Keep up the good work. Aussie Pete
When taking harmonies beyond the 1st, 3rd and 5th 4th (as in suspended 4th chord) and 6th work really well too when used appropriately. Can be difficult for many singers to hit those right unless they have really good ears. A friend I used to play and harmonize with has amazing ears and can add a perfect 6th to the root easily. Lot of guitar players add suspended 4ths to strumming major chords and the 6th is an essential element of old school rock and roll guitar with 1st and 5th alternating with 1st and 6th, sometimes also with 7th (the flat 7th) added.
Fleetwood Mac created a synthesis of the best of folk-rock with country-rock which pushed music over and beyond where it had been. The most influential innovators of their time. Plus some of greatest pop recordings ever made.
Stevie Nicks Resented the line Lindsey wrote, "packing up, shacking up is all you wanna do", and I feel when Stevie sang that backup, she looked directly at him on purpose.

The interpersonal drama in that band of that time, was really something. You had Stevie/Lindsey and John/Christine, then they re-arraigned into different combinations, very high drama. This is from a mid-90s reunion concert and 20 years distant from the original breakup, not that the emotions were any less valid but perhaps not quite as raw as when first singing the song.
This is from "the Dance" tour that they performed in 1997. That was 20 years after both couples in the band were experiencing breakups that were in part the catalyst for the Rumours album. The Dance was kind of a greatest hits/reunion tour. They were all pretty much "over it" 20 years down the road so the emotion you're seeing is nostalgic rather than emotive of any present feelngs. I do believe the musicianship and vocal parts are more polished than 1977 and gives you a nice vehicle to analyze their singing. However there is absolutely no substitute for the raw passion, tension and rage that was present on stage in those performances on the Rumours tour. Sadly very little video evidence exists and most of it is in poor condition.
I know you're analysing voices obviously but I'm dumbfounded at how good Mick Fleetwood hammers out that very complex drum sequence changing between verse and chorus.

I don't know... they would end up parting ways again later (Lindsey and the rest of the band). So while the song and the breakup weren't fresh, the turmoil still came and went.
@@ThinWhiteAxe Yes but, as is so often the case with Fleetwood Mac, its more complicated than that. If I remember correctly, the video was from Bill Clinton's inauguration. Beth, when you have the opportunity check out Lindsey's performance of "I'm So Afraid" from this same concert. It's an amazing nearly eight minutes of music, and Lindsey's guitar solo is passionate and soul searing. It's probably the best song from this concert.
Wow! I've never heard of this song before, but just watched the video. Amazing guitar solo indeed! Fleetwood Mac is not really the first band to pop to one's head when thinking about amazing guitar parts, but Lindsey Buckingham is definitely top tier in fact.
I think Stevie and Lindsey were fine singing those songs in later years. I think their relationship was over in the very early 70's. But how adult of them all (including Christine and John McVie) at that time to put their personal feelings aside and keep the band together.

You should check out their performance of "Silver Springs". One of the lines Stevie sings is " You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loved you". She looks at him dead on while singing this. The emotion is palpable.
She pretty much impales him onstage with the Stare Of Death while singing that song. I remember the first time I watched that and thought "There's some unresolved stuff going on here".
I just went and listened to it again. It's one of the most beautifully performed and recorded live performances I've ever heard, OK, Beth, you've heard Lindsey's side of the story, now you need to hear Stevie's. It's titled "Fleetwood Mac - Silver Springs (Official Music Video)"
She absolutely hated that line "packin' up, shackin' up's all you want to do" - so it's super interesting that she joined him on that line in the live performance.
I suppose enough time has passed that she's accepted the line as good. One of the things that strikes me about almost all of their songs is how they bare their emotions in their songs so raw. No wonder they blew apart.
And then they fire Lindsey 4 years ago because Stevie/Lindsey won't quit picking fights with each other. He singlehandedly put the band on the map when they joined the band. They were a flop in the States before that
Ooohhhh, FM's The Dance!!!! 😍😍😍😍 Please consider reacting to "Big Love" from this show, from what I understood the only time this song was ever played live. Lindsey absolutely KILLS it! 🔥 Love you! ❤
@@t0dd000 The complexity of that acoustic performance became even more apparent to me having watched other people's instructional videos on it. It's a masterpiece of reinvention from the studio original
It wasn't even the first. He plays it every show, but it never gets old. I've seen him perform it several times in his own solo shows, and every time...mind blown!
Have you watched the song Silver Spring from this performance? It is so intense and beautiful. At the end Stevie is just staring at Lindsey singing the lyrics directly through his entire being.
Love your reaction and insights to this wonderful song. Lindsey Buckingham is not only an incredibly talented singer-songwriter and performer, he has to be one of the most underrated guitar players ever. Just LOOK at him with that guitar! Such a shame they had to go their own way (talking about Fleetwood Mac and Lindsey Buckingham, not Lindsey and Stevie).
You should watch the dynamic between Stevie and Lindsey on Silver Springs from this concert (I believe it's the 1997 The Dance video). Holy cow. It's very, very intense. Stevie and Lindsey staring right at each other, her belting out "... You'll never get away from the sound of the woman who loves you." Man. There's no hiding their history in that performance.

Nice one Beth: I love how much music gets to you and how much you show it. Always puts a smile on my face. Here's a suggestion for a song/artist that you may not have heard of that you might like to react to: Heather Nova singing her song "I Miss My Sky" live. Passion and Emotion? I know one with passion and Emotion. Runaway Train by Soul Asylum.... That song, in 199? Was trying to bring attention to how lost the youth in America still are... 😞 Its sad... For 13 years the FBI had Pedophile Island under surveillance and stood by doing nothing... 100's maybe 1000's of kids have been kidnapped and trafficked since the song was released. I can't understand why it doesn't get the attention it needs...
During this same show, the performance of Silver Springs was equally heightened, emotionally. More so than Dreams, it’s Stevie’s lament to the demise of her relationship with Lindsey.
Lindsey Buckingham, the kind of musician that it took two musicians of world renown in their own right to fail to properly replace when he decided to leave the band 🤷🏼♂️
fleetwood also was in the process of divorce after his wife cheated on him with his best friend and then he and stevie had an affair later in the making of the album
It was never okay for them to be around each other after they broke up. It only took 45 years to finally fire one of them..they broke up because Stevie and Lindsey were both on obscene levels of cocaine along with Mick. Paul and Christine were drunks. Stevie cheating on Lindsey with Mick didn't help matters either
This song got me through to the brighter side of a very hard divorce. If not for rumours, we might still be married, but if not for Rumours, I don't think I would have made it. She and I were very much like Lindsey and Stevie, without the cohesion necessary to turn toxicity into such a masterpiece. Thanks for having so much passion for music, Beth.
I guess we'll always be trying to figure out Lindsey and Stevie. A few years back, she said it wouldn't shock her if they ended up as an old, married couple. But he's been on the band's bad side for a few years, now, so that seems less likely. I did enjoy seeing him kiss her cheek during FM's 1982 performance of Landslide, in Houston.
Everyone always talks about the looks Stevie gives Linsey , but he gives it right back to her here with a huge side eye when singing “If I could baby I’d give you my world” And Linsey’s solo acoustic performance of Big Love from this same show (The Dance) is a masterclass
One of those "absolutely private" songs by the Stevie-Lindsay duo. If anyone knows their story. BTW I really encourage you to listen to the Band Maid`s latest single, song "Corallium". Hard rock as hell, but these vocal harmonies!!!
Everyone says Taylor Swift is tough for writing so much music about her EX's. But Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks are the greatest! They wrote hurtful songs about each other, then make each other sing them on stage.
This concert was stunning for me -- watching the eye contact between Stevie and Lindsey throughout the show. It seemed like it really fueled the passion in the performance.
I think by this point in their career and personal lives, they were playing it up for the audience. FM were a great band in any context, but I think they realized that fans really perceived the inter-band dynamics as a huge part of their appeal and played to that... hence all the staring each other down.
I'm surprised you haven't done a tribute reaction to Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac she passed away two days ago on Nov 30 at age 79. She wrote and sang many of this bands hits. I would suggest reacting to her masterpiece, "Songbird". But she also wrote/co-wrote and sang lead vocals on the Fleetwood Mack hits, ""Say You Love Me", "You Make Loving Fun", "Over my Head", "Everywhere", "Little Lies" and others...
You have to do Silver Sprigs. Probably one of the most emotional performances between two people on stage I've ever seen. Plus it's just a beautiful song.
Go your own way is the first song that got me into rock music. I was barely 11 and it just got me so deeply, even if at that age I had no clue of the real meaning of the song (and being French at 11 my English was far from fluent...but the harmonies and the chords were so perfect! I immediately asked my parents for the album ! This is a masterpiece and this performance is so good! Lindsay Buckingham is such an amazing guitarist
Lindsey sounds to me like he's struggling to sing at the same level he could when he was younger. I don't know if it's from wear and tear on his vocal cords or aging or what.
Always wondered how it would feel to be Patty Boyd - having two of the greatest love songs written about you (Something & Layla). Perhaps it would be more interesting to be Buckingham or Nicks to know you’ve written - and had written about you - two of the greatest break up songs (go your own way & dreams).
Does anyone else think that listening to Mac live is way better than a Mac studio recording? Also, Lindsey Buckingham is the most under rated guitarist on the planet! He should be on every top 10 list.
Beth if you find her vocals interesting I’m begging you PLEASE give us a video analysing Stevie Nicks’ live performance of Talk To Me from Red Rocks. Would so love to see your reaction 🙏
Just came across your videos recently and have love them all. Watching this one now is a little bitter sweet as sadly Christine (keyboardist in the video) just passed less then 2 weeks ago. She didn’t get as much recognition as Stevie, which is a shame because she was just as talented.
Not just Stevie and Lindsey. John and Christine were getting divorced and Mick Fleetwood was splitting from his wife. Stevie and Lindsey both wrote break-up songs for the album. Their professionalism showed through to make Rumors their best selling album.
YES, this song is/was very much about the Stevie-Lindsey breakup but THIS show was performed 30-35 years AFTER said split. I'm sure they're LONG past the emotional heartbreak of the "divorce" (they weren't actually married.) Christine and John McVie, the keyboardist and bass players respectively, WERE married and WERE going through a divorce, at the same time Stevie and Lindsey were "going their own ways." Rumors must of been hell to record but I think that's one reason it's such a great album, the emotion and turmoil from their personal lives delivered onto vinyl. An aside, Lindsey's picking/playing technique on the guitar is SO unusual and has always amazed me!
All the _GREAT_ bands sound just as good live, as they do in the studio. Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles come to mind first.

That look gives me chills every time! "I'll follow you down 'til the sound of my voice will haunt you."
Absolutely! The atmosphere between themselves electric!
Yes, Beth need to see this one, I've never seen so much genuine emotion in a performance.
I just saw Lindsay Buckingham a few months back when he came to Minnesota. The man is still a force of nature.
They were a flop in the States before that
Was at the O2 the night Christine returned! The excitement was off the scale.🥳
Likewise, it was superb
Ooohhhh, FM's The Dance!!!! 😍😍😍😍 Please consider reacting to "Big Love" from this show, from what I understood the only time this song was ever played live.
Lindsey absolutely KILLS it! 🔥
Love you! ❤
Lindsey doing a solo acoustic Big Love is ... his pinnacle, I think.
One of my favorite classics; I never get tired of that intro and chorus!
Hello Ms Beth! Thank you for sharing this, and thank you SO much for all that you do for all of us on both of your channels! Loch Sloy! ~Be Blessed
Yep that's a good one.
There’s also the infamous 1982 record of “The Chain” where Lindsey is practically yelling the lyrics at parts right at Stevie
I recognize the stage layout from "The Dance" tour. I saw that show and they were amazing.

I want to see you do a reaction to the band 'Night Moves' song fallacy actually
Nice one Beth: I love how much music gets to you and how much you show it. Always puts a smile on my face.
Here's a suggestion for a song/artist that you may not have heard of that you might like to react to: Heather Nova singing her song "I Miss My Sky" live.
She's got a gorgeous voice and this is a very simple arrangement with lots of close-ups, so good for a vocal coach to analyse.

(Video title is "I Miss My Sky by Heather Nova" on her own channel if you don't want to click a link).
No ain’t was the right word here. It is the word that comes out when you very angry eg. Ain’t no f***ing way
Ok I officially love your "Go!" and "Hey!"s lol I cant decide I want them sampled into a 90s-esque dance song or a retro video game lol
Great as always, Beth. You should look into Lindsey and Stevie doing "Say Goodbye to You" live in Chicago together. Get chills just thinking about it!
The entire Rumors album was recorded as both couples within the band were essentially disintegrating, and it made for one of the best albums ever.
fleetwood also was in the process of divorce after his wife cheated on him with his best friend and then he and stevie had an affair later in the making of the album
My favorite break up song. Got me through some nasty breakups too.
Great comments/reflections. Yes, Lindsey has that "Irish" sound. And one of the most underrated guitarists out there. Such a unique sound.
RIP Christine Mcvie el mundo te echará de menos, gracias por todo lo que nos diste
I am of the opinion that this is the best produced concert on the last 50 years.
Everyone always talks about the looks Stevie gives Linsey , but he gives it right back to her here with a huge side eye when singing “If I could baby I’d give you my world”
And Linsey’s solo acoustic performance of Big Love from this same show (The Dance) is a masterclass
One of those "absolutely private" songs by the Stevie-Lindsay duo. If anyone knows their story.
BTW I really encourage you to listen to the Band Maid`s latest single, song "Corallium". Hard rock as hell, but these vocal harmonies!!!
Stevie always changes when the phrase "packing up, shaking up is all you wanna do".
Yeah she disagreed with that statement and asked him to take that line out of the song but Lindsey refused to.
The whole tension seems to take on an even higher level if you see the song "Silver Springs" from the same concert. It's almost scary.
Check out Silver Spring from this same tour if you want to see and hear pent up emotions between Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.
Christine McVie wrote this song. She is playing the keyboard.
One of the most stellar live performances of ALL time.
Maturity is realizing that Lindsey is the real hero of Fleetwood Mac.
Unfortunately the 'karen' in the band spoke to the manager and got him fired.
Just saying :-)
I never ever tire of listening to this song, any version.
Lindsey is so underrated as a guitarist!!
And as a singer. Nice to hear him get some love here.
Lindsay is fantastic and what we did here compared to the album version is phenomenal.
THIS ENTIRE ALBUM IS BADASS!!! BE SURE TO CHECK OUT AND REACT TO EVERY SONG PLUS MAKE SURE TO REACT TO LINDSAY BUCKINGHAM'S SOLO STUFF!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone else think that listening to Mac live is way better than a Mac studio recording? Also, Lindsey Buckingham is the most under rated guitarist on the planet! He should be on every top 10 list.
I absolutely love that you cover such a diverse range of music :)
My ALL time favorite band since 1975 !!! Stevie is the White Witch Goddess of rock !!! Wonderful reaction !
I've never heard a lead vocalist/lead guitarist as incredible as LB. Please listen to more of this concert and other albums. Check out Monday Morning.
