Everyone always talks about the looks Stevie gives Linsey , but he gives it right back to her here with a huge side eye when singing “If I could baby I’d give you my world” And Linsey’s solo acoustic performance of Big Love from this same show (The Dance) is a masterclass
This song was on the album Rumours, which has gone platinum over 20 times since its release. To this day it still hangs out on the list of top selling albums with Hotel California, Dark Side of the Moon, and Thriller. So, while the song may be associated with some rocky memories, it also permanently changed the lives of every member of the band.
You should check out their performance of "Silver Springs". One of the lines Stevie sings is " You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loved you". She looks at him dead on while singing this. The emotion is palpable.
She pretty much impales him onstage with the Stare Of Death while singing that song. I remember the first time I watched that and thought "There's some unresolved stuff going on here".
I just went and listened to it again. It's one of the most beautifully performed and recorded live performances I've ever heard, OK, Beth, you've heard Lindsey's side of the story, now you need to hear Stevie's. It's titled "Fleetwood Mac - Silver Springs (Official Music Video)"
Beth, when you have the opportunity check out Lindsey's performance of "I'm So Afraid" from this same concert. It's an amazing nearly eight minutes of music, and Lindsey's guitar solo is passionate and soul searing. It's probably the best song from this concert.
Wow! I've never heard of this song before, but just watched the video. Amazing guitar solo indeed! Fleetwood Mac is not really the first band to pop to one's head when thinking about amazing guitar parts, but Lindsey Buckingham is definitely top tier in fact.
Have you watched the song Silver Spring from this performance? It is so intense and beautiful. At the end Stevie is just staring at Lindsey singing the lyrics directly through his entire being.
Don't know much about their singing/great harmonies but Lindsey's exit solo is top tier, full of emotion and guitar mastery. Always found Mac's drumming style hard to copy, almost syncopated at times so I just did my own schtick. Stevie and Lindsey were shooting eye darts at each other at times and avoiding getting into each other's space when walking the stage.... ah the joy of doing a gig with an ex.
Not nearly as awkward as their song “You Make Loving Fun” which Christine McVie wrote about an affair she had with the lighting director. John McVie was her husband and the bassist. 😂🙈
I think Stevie and Lindsey were fine singing those songs in later years. I think their relationship was over in the very early 70's. But how adult of them all (including Christine and John McVie) at that time to put their personal feelings aside and keep the band together.
You should watch the dynamic between Stevie and Lindsey on Silver Springs from this concert (I believe it's the 1997 The Dance video). Holy cow. It's very, very intense. Stevie and Lindsey staring right at each other, her belting out "... You'll never get away from the sound of the woman who loves you." Man. There's no hiding their history in that performance.
Love your reaction and insights to this wonderful song. Lindsey Buckingham is not only an incredibly talented singer-songwriter and performer, he has to be one of the most underrated guitar players ever. Just LOOK at him with that guitar! Such a shame they had to go their own way (talking about Fleetwood Mac and Lindsey Buckingham, not Lindsey and Stevie).
She absolutely hated that line "packin' up, shackin' up's all you want to do" - so it's super interesting that she joined him on that line in the live performance.
I suppose enough time has passed that she's accepted the line as good. One of the things that strikes me about almost all of their songs is how they bare their emotions in their songs so raw. No wonder they blew apart.
This concert was stunning for me -- watching the eye contact between Stevie and Lindsey throughout the show. It seemed like it really fueled the passion in the performance.
I think by this point in their career and personal lives, they were playing it up for the audience. FM were a great band in any context, but I think they realized that fans really perceived the inter-band dynamics as a huge part of their appeal and played to that... hence all the staring each other down.
During this same show, the performance of Silver Springs was equally heightened, emotionally. More so than Dreams, it’s Stevie’s lament to the demise of her relationship with Lindsey.
Ooohhhh, FM's The Dance!!!! 😍😍😍😍 Please consider reacting to "Big Love" from this show, from what I understood the only time this song was ever played live. Lindsey absolutely KILLS it! 🔥 Love you! ❤

It wasn't even the first. He plays it every show, but it never gets old. I've seen him perform it several times in his own solo shows, and every time...mind blown!
Go your own way is the first song that got me into rock music. I was barely 11 and it just got me so deeply, even if at that age I had no clue of the real meaning of the song (and being French at 11 my English was far from fluent...but the harmonies and the chords were so perfect! I immediately asked my parents for the album ! This is a masterpiece and this performance is so good! Lindsay Buckingham is such an amazing guitarist
So intense, every time. The song resonates because it was exceptionally vulnerable. The harmonies are just incredible-Lindsey’s high nasality, Stevie’s low, warm rasp, and Christine’s sweet, ever-accommodating middle-hard to match.
This song got me through to the brighter side of a very hard divorce. If not for rumours, we might still be married, but if not for Rumours, I don't think I would have made it. She and I were very much like Lindsey and Stevie, without the cohesion necessary to turn toxicity into such a masterpiece. Thanks for having so much passion for music, Beth.
Thank you Beth Roars! Yes, Lindsey Buckingham is completely a folk singer and guitarist who choses to make rock and roll music. There are many of his songs, particularly solos, where his guitar picking is modified traditional folk guitar style.
Just came across your videos recently and have love them all. Watching this one now is a little bitter sweet as sadly Christine (keyboardist in the video) just passed less then 2 weeks ago. She didn’t get as much recognition as Stevie, which is a shame because she was just as talented.
Everyone says Taylor Swift is tough for writing so much music about her EX's. But Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks are the greatest! They wrote hurtful songs about each other, then make each other sing them on stage.
Lindsey often sang (still does mostly) the higher harmonies, the studio version of this song it's Lindsey hitting the C5s on the chorus. Incredibly underated and beast of a vocalist and guitarist
I'm surprised you haven't done a tribute reaction to Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac she passed away two days ago on Nov 30 at age 79. She wrote and sang many of this bands hits. I would suggest reacting to her masterpiece, "Songbird". But she also wrote/co-wrote and sang lead vocals on the Fleetwood Mack hits, ""Say You Love Me", "You Make Loving Fun", "Over my Head", "Everywhere", "Little Lies" and others...
You have to do Silver Sprigs. Probably one of the most emotional performances between two people on stage I've ever seen. Plus it's just a beautiful song.

The voices of a young Stevie and Lindsay are insane. Hearing that album - there is no doubt of the musical influence these two had on this amazing band. Every one of them are musical geniuses.
One of those "absolutely private" songs by the Stevie-Lindsay duo. If anyone knows their story. BTW I really encourage you to listen to the Band Maid`s latest single, song "Corallium". Hard rock as hell, but these vocal harmonies!!!
Hi There, Beth. I have only recently discovered your Channel by Accident. I love the way you analyse songs & vocal performances. Often during your review, I sit back & think "yeah, she's right, I've never noticed that'. Particularly in this song where their lives were in so much turmoil but they were able to put that aside & sing a beautiful, emotional song. And, as you said, Lindsey's guitar gave out so much feeling as well. I've only seen about 20 of your videos & every one of them has been constructive. Maybe you do, but, I've never heard you can a performance & they've varied from Brian Johnson to Sinead O'Connor. Keep up the good work. Aussie Pete
Fantastic triple harmonies! But also, not only does Lindsey Buckingham show a crying feeling in his voice and facial expressions, but the ever higher notes in the latter half of his guitar playing also feels like the guitar is crying ever more intensely. And then Lindsey's final cathartic release on Mick's drums.
The Rumors album was always one of my favorites. I also loved that Fleetwood Mac got back together for Bill Clinton. They weren't at their best at that performance but they weren't bad and they had been apart for a long time. Any other group of people would have gotten as far away from each other as possible under the circumstances. Fleetwood Mac turned it into some of the best songs ever. Together.
YES, this song is/was very much about the Stevie-Lindsey breakup but THIS show was performed 30-35 years AFTER said split. I'm sure they're LONG past the emotional heartbreak of the "divorce" (they weren't actually married.) Christine and John McVie, the keyboardist and bass players respectively, WERE married and WERE going through a divorce, at the same time Stevie and Lindsey were "going their own ways." Rumors must of been hell to record but I think that's one reason it's such a great album, the emotion and turmoil from their personal lives delivered onto vinyl. An aside, Lindsey's picking/playing technique on the guitar is SO unusual and has always amazed me!
Really dug this. I loved seeing L. and Stevie perform. Surprised L took control of the song. Must of been a reason. Big fan of both! His guitar playing is insane. He had a big hit in 81 Im in Trouble, I absolutely loved it.
Fleetwood Mac were one of the few Bands that had continuous internal problems but stayed together producing awesome music for as long as they did & just keep coming back together.
This concert DVD is absolutely amazing. The finale with "TUSK " and "Don't Stop Thinkin' About Tomorrow" is the best musical performance I've ever seen.
What is more important that the singing is the looks across the stage, elevates this song from an alright MOR to a brilliant operatic piece. And the way they pass, on the stage, like ships in the night. Can't stop myself waving my arms in the air in tune with the drumming too.
Fleetwood Mac created a synthesis of the best of folk-rock with country-rock which pushed music over and beyond where it had been. The most influential innovators of their time. Plus some of greatest pop recordings ever made.
Does anyone else think that listening to Mac live is way better than a Mac studio recording? Also, Lindsey Buckingham is the most under rated guitarist on the planet! He should be on every top 10 list.
I guess we'll always be trying to figure out Lindsey and Stevie. A few years back, she said it wouldn't shock her if they ended up as an old, married couple. But he's been on the band's bad side for a few years, now, so that seems less likely. I did enjoy seeing him kiss her cheek during FM's 1982 performance of Landslide, in Houston.
The interpersonal drama in that band of that time, was really something. You had Stevie/Lindsey and John/Christine, then they re-arraigned into different combinations, very high drama. They had a good thing going on musically, and knew it, they worked with that through some pretty insane/intense emotional changes. Before the days of Stevie and Lindsey they were a "serious rock/blues band" Check out "Oh Well" from the days of Peter Green. ruclips.net/video/KE4HGlmtOcg/видео.html&ab_channel=DopeFiend13 The vocal work isn't really as much in front as the guitar work, but it tells you about the band.
Denver, Co was almost the last concert they performed. I was so close to Christine McVie aka Christine Perfect, I could see Denver written on the masking tape on her piano. Christine Perfect and her British Blues days....plz ck it out.

IDK if he's underrated. He's hailed as one of the best of all time, all the time and rightfully so.
Mick Fleetwood's drumming is off the chart. What an amazing drummer he is. He never seemed to get the recognition he so richly deserved.

Together.
Productive for sure...
"Thunder only happens when it's raining", wrote Nicks. Have to be grateful she bottled that lightning.
The icing on the top of a already delicious cake. Is Lindsay’s playing that has the Almost
perfect amount of emotion.
Resonating real life performed by a legendary band through a big song!! Take a bow!:):)
Really dug this. I loved seeing L. and Stevie perform. Surprised L took control of the song. Must of been a reason. Big fan of both! His guitar playing is insane. He had a big hit in 81 Im in Trouble, I absolutely loved it.
He took control because it’s his song? He’s always been the lead.
Your intro animation is 5000% adorable. With the little chorus ending in the rawr? SOOOOOO CUUUUUUTE!
Ooooohhhhhhh....LOVE this!!! Stevie and Lindsay singing it at each other...
The instrumental in this version is just. Man. The feels
I've never heard a lead vocalist/lead guitarist as incredible as LB. Please listen to more of this concert and other albums. Check out Monday Morning.
THIS ENTIRE ALBUM IS BADASS!!! BE SURE TO CHECK OUT AND REACT TO EVERY SONG PLUS MAKE SURE TO REACT TO LINDSAY BUCKINGHAM'S SOLO STUFF!!!!!!!!!
What is more important that the singing is the looks across the stage, elevates this song from an alright MOR to a brilliant operatic piece. And the way they pass, on the stage, like ships in the night. Can't stop myself waving my arms in the air in tune with the drumming too.
Love your comments on the vocals but just wanted to add that I could listen to Mick Fleetwood and John McVie play together all day.
As a bass-player, that was an awesome performance ! And you're correct about root-3rd-5th arpeggios!
One of my fave Fleetwood Mac songs
This is definitely the best live performance they have ever done!
Fleetwood Mac created a synthesis of the best of folk-rock with country-rock which pushed music over and beyond where it had been. The most influential innovators of their time. Plus some of greatest pop recordings ever made.
Not even the cold, dark winter has a chance against Beth and amazing music 😻🎊🍻
Stevie always changes when the phrase "packing up, shaking up is all you wanna do".
Yeah she disagreed with that statement and asked him to take that line out of the song but Lindsey refused to.
Does anyone else think that listening to Mac live is way better than a Mac studio recording? Also, Lindsey Buckingham is the most under rated guitarist on the planet! He should be on every top 10 list.
If you want to see unfiltered emotion in their performance, have a look at the live version of "Say Goodbye"...
For ME it's all about his guitar (pickless) passion...and I love Stevie
Great analysis and information. While I am not a vocalist, you have raised my appreciation for music. Fun to listen and learn.
Great video! Love Lyndsey what a total legend
You can play all kinds of music, I tune in just for you & your passion
Christine McVie wrote this song. She is playing the keyboard.
Denver, Co was almost the last concert they performed. I was so close to Christine McVie aka Christine Perfect, I could see Denver written on the masking tape on her piano.
Christine Perfect and her British Blues days....plz ck it out.
